I’ve been at Allegiate for 2.5 years now. Allegiate is hands down the best gym if you want to get stronger and see results, no matter your experience level. My review is overdue…

- Started with an ankle / foot injury that I was told would never get back to 100%. After working through the strength and now team program, the pain and instability is gone.

- Down 4 (yes, four) waist sizes so far with a (somewhat) healthy diet. Easily in the best shape since starting my career 10+ years ago. Feel awesome and can’t wait to see more results over the next year.

- Coaches and members are great people. Extremely supportive environment, and not intimidating despite lifts being challenging. Have made several close friends from class and love going in. Coaches are all over everyone in a good way and watch your form.

Just a few points. Stick to the program and you’ll see results!! Sign up!!!

I love the strength workouts. Corrective movements and stretches built in to the beginning of class, and you get the full hour so time permits you to warm up and push yourself without rushing or increased chance of injury. The Strength training is slow, steady, and challenging. I feel great after going for 3 months.

If you are looking for the best gym in LA that will help you build a foundation of fitness and strength for the rest of your life, look no further. Coaches, programming, equipment, and culture are all top tier at Allegiate. You will get stronger, more mobile, and more fit by working out at Allegiate. They don’t take shortcuts and focus on proper form and quality reps—coaches explain the workouts/lifts to everyone, and then throughout the workout they go around and correct form/help you get the most out of the yourself/the workout.

Of note, this is a gym that is focused on lifting weights and getting stronger. For me, that’s a huge positive, but if you’re strictly looking for HIIT/cardio/crossfit, this is not the place. There are no fad or gimmicky programs, just evidence-based strength work that largely utilizes dumbbells and barbells. There are multiple programming options, and it’s a rare gym that caters well to both beginners and elite/experienced athletes. Special shoutout to coaches I worked with a lot like Jack and Anthony who set the tone and make Allegiate great. Also, it’s pretty awesome we get to use equipment like Watson dumbbells/plates, Eleiko barbells, etc.

RESULTS … :)

My favorite gym. After years of doing open gyms and using ClassPass, I finally found a place that’s worth committing to. The instructors are knowledgeable and personalize training based on your goals. The crowd is friendly and grounded. Application tracking baseline testing and track your progress with real data. In addition how you felt sleep, energy and post workout review. The equipment is top-tier, and the space is always clean. It’s time to get strong.

I love this place. Great coaching, great vibes, great people. As someone who was a strength training newbie, all the coaches made me feel very welcome from Day 1. I highly recommend Allegiate to anyone who wants to improve their strength training skill surrounded by equally motivated and driven people!

I love Allegiate gym! I've tried all the strength training studios in Santa Monica, and these guys are the best. Here's how they stand out:
1) Coaching: Allegiate has the best coaches. They give you personal attention, make sure you're doing exercises the right way, make sure you don't get injured, and keep you motivated.
2) Programming: The workouts are thoughtfully designed to challenge you, while making sure you hit each muscle group. Every four weeks there's a new training block that forces your body to make adaptations and get stronger.
3) Fitness Tech: I love how Allegiate has you track each workout on an iPad and lets you monitor your progress over time. The gym has equipment for testing grip strength & hamstring strength and making sure you don't have any left-right imbalances. Plus they provide nutrition coaching and body composition assessments. They've helped me get in the best shape of my life. Thank you Allegiate!!

It’s a great gym with great coaching experience. I signed up for their 6 week trial and my experience was amazing! The coaches and other staff are personable and make it very easy for you to get on with their program. Very carefully coached and curated workouts, targeting total body fitness and a myth buster for me who thought working out everyday was a necessity. Their workouts are efficient, explosive and definitely made me feel stronger ( I went from 60 lbs squats to 100+ lbs in the span of 6 weeks )
In addition, their nutrition coaching was spot on, which really helped me in general to understand my food intake corresponding to my fitness goals!
100% recommend.

I’ve been battling serious injuries (3x shoulder surgeries, 1x back, and 1x knee surgery) over the past 19 years and have been in and out of physical therapy throughout that time. The best results I ever had from PT was getting to a point where a was pain free (temporarily) but never to a point where I could get back in the gym lifting or playing sports like I used to. Within only a few months of working out at Allegiate (along with a pretty strict yoga and mobility regiment outside of Allegiate) I have gotten to a point where I am by far the most flexible I’ve ever been in my problem areas (hips/hammies/glutes) and by far the strongest I’ve ever been in those areas. My mobility has increased significantly, and I am not just pain free but I actually feel GOOD for the first time in almost 20 years. The coaches and staff are all great and I couldn’t recommend this place enough, especially to anyone coming back from an injury.

Incredible gym! I love working out here. The classes are well structured and organized. Great gym for ex-college athletes and anyone enjoys to train. The class structure feels like your on back in college strength and conditioning training program paired up with a few partners at each rack. Programming is really good functional movements. The coaches are incredible and so knowledgeable. Friendly and supportive atmosphere! Love this gym and highly highly recommend!!

I started going to Allegiate last October and quickly fell in love with the whole vibe— the circuits, the way a class made me feel afterwards, the attentive coaches, community, and most of all, how my body has changed for the best! I’ve seen huge improvements in my overall strength and stability and have learned SO MUCH about weights, tempo, form, and function. As a woman, strength training can be intimidating but Allegiate makes its approachable, smart, fun, and motivating. Just hit 50 classes and can’t wait for 50+ more!!

I signed up for the one week trial here and I absolutely love the Conditioning, Team, and Stretch class. It's so common to see gyms that focus on numbers and PRs, and rare to see gyms like Allegiate that emphasize the importance of functional movement and mobility. Each class starts with CARs - which is amazing!

The coaches are very patient and friendly as well!

Allegiate is a stellar gym that deserves your business! This place is great for professionals looking to take workout classes and network. The culture and quality of the classes/coaches makes my gym time the best part of the week.

The program regiment was enough for me to avoid injuries, gain 15 lbs of good healthy weight over a year, and mitigate old injuries to include a broken back from a few years back as well as surgery on my hip and shoulder.

Allegiate has done an amazing job in providing value to its customers.

Can't say enough about how happy I am to be part of this gym. The workouts are perfect for anyone looking to build muscle and get stronger. If you like having a trainer-led workout class, with focus on strength, this is it.

There isn't any cardio in the regular classes (they do offer a separate cardio class though) so if you are used to something like Barry's that is part cardio and part weights, this isn't like that. It's purely lifting. They take great care to make sure everyone uses proper form and technique, and have a pretty extensive warm-up to help prevent injuries.

Overall if your goal is to get stronger and/or put on some size/muscle, this is a great place to do that.

My favorite activity is cross-country skiing, and last season I struggled to be able to ski for any length of time, let alone tow my toddler in her ski stroller. I was really out of shape after stress-eating my way through the pandemic and have also had some health issues which resulted in daily pain and mobility issues.

I joined Allegiate in April, have been relatively consistent, and have seen amazing results! I’m stronger, my mobility is significantly improved, my daily pain is reduced, and right now I’m on vacation in Alaska and measuring my time on the ski trails in hours rather than minutes. I owe a lot of that to the improved strength and amazing stretch classes at Allegiate. A side benefit that I never considered is that my tech neck is pretty much resolved! The focus on opening up the shoulders helps with that if you sit at the computer all day!

I’m usually the most out-of-shape person in each class, and yet I always feel welcome and supported by everyone in the class and the amazing coaches. If there’s something I can’t do, the coaches offer adjustments or alternative exercises that I’m able to do and still build strength. I love the focus on mobility and injury prevention and I can tell they use evidence-based methods to do so.

Whether you’re training for the Olympics, or just want to be able to move better and improve your strength, this gym has something for everyone. I highly recommend giving them a try!

I have both worked in and been a member at many gyms for the last couple of decades and this is by far one of my favorites. The level of attention to details goes into the classes so that we are training intelligently and minimizing the risk of injury is rarely found elsewhere. I also like all the thought that has gone into the equipment they have as well as the weekly performance testing. Everything is logged on iPads that sit on the racks to make sure you can track your data instead of it all being guess work. This is probably as close to the way pro athletes are trained and assessed that you can find in any gym around here.

Allegiate is a place that prioritizes mobility and safety while improving overall strength and health. Many gyms these days try to convince you that the only way to get fit is to do a HIIT gym and to max out the weight each day. With that mindset I
its only a matter of time before an injury sidelines you.

As an Olympic athlete, this is the first public gym I have been a part of that prioritizes my long term health while pushing me harder in the weight room than ever before.

What's not to love here. They draw you in with eye catching social media. It's backed up by effective training that focuses on injury prevention. I love the attention and care of the coaches and staff. Each class spends a good amount of time with warm ups and recovery. It's great for all levels. I've never been to such a fun, effective and intense stretch class. They have great variety of hours to meet busy schedules. And there's a great personality and culture here. You are encouraged to be a part of the community however fits your personality. There's nothing forced. This review could go on forever.

I am concerned about health and safety and Allegiate provides a clean environment, and everyone wears masks. Yes, it's a bit pricey but worth it. I missed the holiday party and heard it was a lot of fun!

Love this gym so far. The best strength and conditioning program I’ve been a part of. Very knowledgeable, experienced and friendly staff.

I started coming here because I was getting injured doing other activities like jiu jitsu and surfing. Allegiate was exactly what I needed to heal and strengthen my body the right away.

Each class starts with mobility work and corrective exercises before you start resistance training. Coaches are there to make sure your body position and form are correct.

I just wish the gym was closer to where I live. My wife and I drive 30 minutes to this gym because we haven’t found anything like it closer to home.

They’ve created a professional and welcoming vibe here. I couldn’t recommend this place enough.

Absolutely LOVE Allegiate. I've tried just about every workout program (Crossfit, Powerlifting, HIIT, Boxing, Yoga, Rowing, Biking, Swimming, etc...). While I've loved aspects of them all, Allegiate has really helped me achieve my goals in a realistic (and healthy) way, that's not about quick fixes. I've also worked out less hours, but achieved faster results AND avoided injuries. The coaches are excellent at correcting form as well which is rare to find. There's also different levels of programming depending on how advanced you are so there's room to grow up! LOVE this place!!!

Professional coaching, systematized workouts, positive vibe from members and staff. Bottom line: the program and coaches take the guesswork out of strength training and give you a reliable path to improvement. Over the past few months here, I've mostly attended the "Strength" group classes, and have seen steady improvement in overall fitness. I've appreciated having a detailed, thought-out program to follow, a focus on range-of-motion, a performance-tracking system, and knowledgeable coaches who give feedback on technique and help clarify other aspects of meeting physical fitness goals.

Place wanted a justification for the 2 stars so here...

To begin, there are a LOT of gyms in Santa Monica making it quite difficult to stand out. Allegiate starts off right to stand out with friendly, knowledgeable staff. They are the make-it-or-break-it of any business and they really help bring the gym out of one star...

The issues arise from the small facilities, classes that don't offer much, and (the biggest sin) comparing themselves to Equinox. Saying your prices are "cheaper than Equinox" is not saying much when it's $220/month. In comparison, the average gym price is $120-$150 in Santa Monica. When the prices are outrageous, you would assume the workouts to be outrageous but you would wrong.

They are just average 1hr classes encompassing designed workouts that won't really help you gain muscle, lose fat, etc. as they change every week without cycling back to those muscle groups. If they do, the instructor never made that clear.

Speaking of the instructors, they are friendly and knowledgeable, but they sell that they will help tailor your goals and ask what do you need help in, such as recovery, lose weight, or gain mass, without actually any of the workouts reflecting that. Maybe they recommend classes? BUT the class variety isn't much and the thought still lingers that they are $220/month so now you feel like they need to be amazing and have tons of variety.

Please, stop saying you're cheaper than Equinox... If not for your customers sake, the sake of your business...cause I just switched to a cheaper gym that really may not be amazing but fits the price. Maybe, I'll go back when people start to leave and Allegiate lowers their prices?

P.S. also the gym is small so don't expect to do a workout by yourself if a class is going on

Allegiate is not just your normal gym. They do things defiantly. You just don't go there to workout and burn calories, they teach you how to take care of your body from preworkout movement, the workout and post workout streach. What I really appreciate from them is the level of care, they give every member. I have gone to many gyms/classes/boot camps, but have never been this satisfied with my workout when I stepped out. If you are looking to start working out and make a life lasting change to your life, I would highly recommend Allegiate.
