Love Landon’s swim coach, Heather. Very nice and patient. He’s always happy when he’s in the pool with her. He always has lots of fun during his swim lessons and also learning at the same time. 👏🏼😄 We hope we get her again when we come back. 👍🏼 Overall, friendly staff and great experience! ❤️

My son Jett goes to swimming classes at this location and let me tell you,, he has grown so much with his swimming confidence! He is almost 4 years old and we have stuck with Coach Mason every step of the way! He is gentle and understanding with my sometimes complicated 3 year old! He always has a good attitude and is always cheering my son on! I can’t thank him enough for teaching my son how to swim in such a caring and gentle manner! I don’t want swim classes to end. We go once a week and my son gets out of school every day saying he wants to have a swimming day! We will keep coming back until he is graduated! Once he has graduated swim classes we will move on the the next sport my son chooses at American Kids Sports Association!

We have been a part of the American Cheer family for over 20 years! The community of the American Cheer family is over the top amazing.
Jason and Ashley’s passion for cheer is exemplified throughout the entirety of the program! From the BEST coaches that motivate and push our athletes to be the best versions of themselves, to the unwavering supportive admin (Sheila), that work behind the scenes to help keep parent involvement a top priority so the athletes can have fun throughout the season!
I would HIGHLY recommend American Cheer for all littles, or young adults! It was THE best choice I have made for my daughter!

This Gym is EVERYTHING I never knew my kids needed! After over 12 years in Competitive cheer I’m overly impressed with the staff and compassion this gym has. Everyone is nice and accommodating and my kids are able to excel in their talents and abilities with the coaches they have. My kids haven’t had one bad experience or complaint and honestly never want to leave the gym, even on non practice days they find a reason to go in. Don’t let the “big gym” fool you when you become a part of the American Family it feels like a small gym with a great family atmosphere. Definitely recommend 10/10

My Girls have been with American Kids Sports Center for 3yrs we started out with the swim program & then they moved into the mid year prep & elite cheer program where they absolutely love it we came from a different gym where my children didn’t feel like they were worth anything here at AKSC they feel that they are worth something and they are always excited & looking forward to seeing not just their friends or the other family’s. It may be a big place but I can say the staff there has made us feel like family they updated us on everything that is going on & goes over & beyond to make sure my kids feel comfortable & enjoy their time with AKSC I can honestly say 1of my kid has came out for her shell from being bullied at school AKSC has helped her with her self esteem & my other kid suffers from ADHD Hypertension let’s just say AKSC has Helped her with learning how to control herself and staying focused AKSC is Awesome! Go ahead give them a try…

Top Tier!!! The cheer program at American Kids is phenomenal. There is nothing else that compares locally and I don’t think people understand the care, compassion, dedication and love that the cheer directors pour into this program and its athletes. Staff and coaches work with athletes to build them from the ground up. Cheer is unique because individual skills matter but they also contribute to the overall team success. Highly recommend giving your child an opportunity to experience this specialized experience.

I started my one year old daughter with swim classes. Coach Karla is absolutely amazing! She truly is the best. She is so good with the littles and gains their trust. She is also good with parents and goes off what they’re comfortable with. I then did gymnastics and now we do ninja! We will be doing dance classes as soon as she’s old enough! The staff is all great and super helpful! Highly recommend!

I’ve been bringing my daughters here for three years now and absolutely love it.

They’re both enrolled in their tumble tots and swim classes and I have seen them both improve their skills. I feel safer that they have learned how to get out of a pool and love seeing them get stronger as they go through obstacles and now some tumbling.

The snack bar is awesome in case you forget your snacks, they have your back! From cheese sticks, to popcorn, they have all sorts of snacks for your little ones.

Parking can be crazy at times but I’ve managed to find parking each time. Seating is good too.

Overall, I recommend this place.

We had a ninja birthday party this last weekend and it was perfect! If you are looking for a fun party where you can enjoy it with your kid, this is the place.
Monica called the week of the party to confirm the guest count and pizza order. I dropped off the decorations before the party so the helpers could decorate before we arrived. The team at the front were friendly and helpful.
We got there early and the girls were setting up tables and chairs. They offered to help with everything and asked me how we wanted things done. They even helped get my son’s favorite songs through the speakers.
The ninja class started right on time and the instructor was great. The parents sat upstairs and had an awesome view. Perfect for taking videos and pictures of your kid doing the obstacle course.
After the class we went back to the room where the pizza and drinks were waiting for us. The girls handed out pizza, poured the drinks, cut the cake, and even helped clean up the wrapping paper when my son opened presents. They were incredibly helpful and are part of what made it a great experience. We plan to have all birthday parties from here on out. Thank you Monica and team for making it what my son said was the best birthday party ever!

We’ve had such a wonderful experience with Coach Heather and Coach Calvin! From the very beginning, my son was crying and didn’t want to be in the pool without a parent. Coach Heather’s patience and encouragement helped him slowly build confidence, and now he looks forward to every lesson with excitement. Coach Calvin also went above and beyond—he even learned that singing to my child was the best way to calm him down in those tough moments. Thanks to their dedication, my son has not only become more confident but has also learned so many swimming skills. We’re so grateful for both of them and highly recommend them to any parent looking for caring and effective coaches.

Here as a retired special educator, and now a proud grandmother watching my two granddaughters enrolled in American Splash Swim School, I am once again so happily surprised to see the wonderful teaching going on here. Both Kaitlin and Jules (along with the others) are such great teachers. The students enrolled here seem to have a great time, have fun, and while they’re at it, learn how to swim!

“I really really like miss p (coach prissilla Contreras). I had her for gymnastics level 1 and again for level 2. She’s been my favorite coach at AKSC for gym. She’s fun. She teaches us a lot of new things. She helped me improve on a lot of my skills. And she’s really nice”
-Alyssa M (girls lvl 2 gym student)

My daughter has really enjoyed being in coach prissillas class. Even when she misses a class and does a makeup class she insists that I find a class with her as the coach. She’s great. She talks to parents after every class. Let’s us know how they did that day and what they are working on to improve. I really appreciate that. She’s been the only coach to do that…… AND THE ONLY coach she’s had to actually evaluate the girls monthly. she’s great.

Ps please give her a level 3 class :) so my daughter can stay with her.

Watching my son graduate from this preschool and seeing all the photos of him over the last two years reaffirmed my decision to put him in this amazing program. My preschool as a kid didn’t have these amazing facilities, but beyond that the stability in staffing and the extracurriculars like having various city vehicles out for the kids to explore (police, fire, utilities) and bonus activities for the kiddos plus all his friends let me know I made the right choice bringing him here. Jennifer has put together a great program and has always been hyper responsive. Can’t wait to enroll our daughter when she is ready.

In a group I belong to, I had heard about another special needs mom saying horrible things about the swim lessons at American Kids. So I'm here to speak on my positive experience.

My son is also autistic, and has THRIVED at American Kids. He went from being scared of water in his face & head, to voluntarily putting his entire head in to dive and get that ring (iykyk). While he has worked with multiple swim instructors (we have purchased the punch swim pass as well), Kennedy is his absolute favorite for sure.

My son gets distracted easily and has a hard time sitting still waiting for his turn. More so than the neurotypical child his age. I'm pretty sure he has been told to sit down (and wait his turn) on multiple occasions. 🙃 Each time it seems to be handled gracefully, and I appreciate that.

I have nothing but positive things to say about the swim lessons and how it has gone for my neurodivergent child. 💙 The progress he has made is amazing, but the confidence he has gained in himself and his capabilities is even better.

They were pressuring my toddler to go underwater so hard she was having an anxiety attack. This swim classes are not fun for them. If you're trying to create a Olympic swimmer, I guess go here? They're charging practices are also predatory and they will keep charging you and fight you to keep going and keep getting charged. It's obviously just a money grab for them.

Absolutely horrible swimming coaches!!!! My nephew WAS going for lessons and will NEVER return! He was treated horribly because he can only swim with swimming goggles. Due to his autism!!!!!!!!!! He left his lesson crying yesterday because the coach refused to let him swim with his goggles on. Horrible service! Horrible place!

The response from the “owner” is a total lie! First off TYLER wasn’t even the coach at hand so now your employees are falsifying notes! (Go deal with that also) Second I absolutely understand safety but unless your coaches are teaching these children how to breath under water what difference does it make if there is a nose covering? Still a horrible place and now I see it starts from the top!!!

Only reason I kept my child here is so she can socialize. So far coaches have a different approach. We do not mind since we are not pushing our 2 years old for anything but have fun with her age group.

But when she fell last week and the coach did not even bother to check on her was funny to say the least. It was a hard cry and she wont move her right arm. She was so guarded and wont stop crying the whole place can hear it. We decided to just go with our instinct and took her to ER where they diagnosed her with right elbow fracture.

Yes it is not their responsibility. But in this kind of space, IMO coach should be train to evaluate situation and guide parents. Heck! I am not even expecting first aid but to at least evaluate situation lol

All we got was a generic email that she will be missed and that they understand life gets busy and that they offer other classes. And pay extra 139$ once life not that busy anymore that we reenroll Lmao

Of course! We had to hold off their auto monthly enrollment since we do not have an idea about how she would recuperate! Ortho peds soonest appointment is tomorrow, so a temporary splint is on.

I was not gonna say anything , until i saw their email! That just blow me off! This place suddenly just feels like a joke!

My kids love doing the gymnastics here, but I’m disappointed in the coaches. The good coaches that keep the kids in order and know what they are doing never seem to stay around long. Then they get new coaches that are nice but let the kids run around and go crazy and have no order. Plus, as my son got older we had to drop him out because they don’t offer the level 1 boys or any of the higher level boys during the weekend. You should be offering at least 1 boys class on the weekend.

The coach(Cindy) started 5 min late and ended 5 min early which you pay for. The coach, didn't let the young girls(ages 3-5) try all exercises like jumping off a box, walking on balance beam, etc and at the end chastise the girls by not giving them a sticker on there hand. My daughter was distraught and I was disappointed by the lack of coaching. The coach was more worried about there phone then the student. We will not return here and find a better program especially for the $120 price tag for 4 sessions and less then an hour of time.

This places lacks higiene in their gym and equipment. It is a virus revolving door. Their gym mats are never cleaned and smell very strong. Customer service is even worst. Their class cancelation is very consistent though. A common problem is their auto charging your account even after you cancel the subscription. Do not expect returned calls or emails from them.

My kids have thoroughly enjoyed their entire experience here, most of the coaches they have had are wonderful and I can see the skills they have learned everyday. They look forward to coming to classes and I look forward to them smiling as they master a new skill or complete a task that has been rough for them. Five stars for the classes and instructors.

Having said that, my 3 star review is based on the facility as a whole. It does cost a small fortune to attend the classes (again, worth it for what my kids take out of it). I find it disappointing that no matter how many classes your child is in, you are capped at 2 make up classes a month (or session I believe they consider it). This little clause is hidden in the small print that I missed when I signed the release 2 years ago when we came for a birthday party. Now that we are taking classes, I was shocked when the situation came up this summer because that's essentially $60 down the drain; I would have preferred going to a makeup class but lesson learned. I can understand it's a business and there's some reasoning behind it, but if I pay for a class, I should be able to use it.

Second, the app is ridiculous. Any time you call or ask for help, the first response is "well you have to do it in the app." It's not user friendly, gives errors for no reason, is not easy to find classes and, on more than one occasion, has not had classes listed that I know exist because my kid is in them! I always try to maneuver in the app, but somehow result to being the pain in the butt mom that requires help from the front desk people (who are often happy to help).

Finally, my other issue is with the social media account. It is glaringly obvious by the account that gymnastics is the bread and butter of American Kids. I would estimate 85-90% of the posts are of gymnastics. Those kids work hard and should absolutely be highlighted, however, there is very little context given as to what the kid is doing or why it is so impressive. For example, there was a post recently of a young lady doing an impressive flip in the air - but as someone who is not in gymnastics, I don't know why it was so impressive, no idea what it took for her to get there, or even what comes next for her. It would be nice for some context in these situations. Mostly, it would be nice to see the other programs highlighted for families that participate in those, or potential new familiea looking for something for their kids. The swim academy probably gets the most attention of the other offerings, but even those are far and few. There are 4 dance studios upstairs and I never see anything mentioned about them; in fact they had a huge recital in May and nothing was ever mentioned. The ninja classes are another rarely mentioned - they had their first ever ninja games this summer and while there was one post about signing up, nothing about the event, the skills the kids did, or of the winners despite a staff taking pictures of it all. Even the gymnastic classes aren't highlighted - there are some great classes for the younger kids just looking to learn balance or gain independence but nothing showing how starting young could lead to the impressive flips of the aforementioned young lady. There are even parent participation classes in different programs that should be highlighted! American kids offers a wide range of activities and classes for kids of all levels, not just competitive gymnastics, and it would be nice if the facility social media highlighted that.

Overall, we enjoy our experience here and would recommend it to a friend, assuming you can be flexible and have a little wiggle room in your monthly budget.

I should note, I did ask the front desk if there was a suggestion box to share my concerns and was told posting a review here was the best way to get to management. In that conversation, I also learned there are kudos cards on the front desk I can fill out about specific staff members, so I'm off to fill some of those out too on the great coaches we have had.

I’m a very anxious mother. I worry about the smallest things whether my kid is going to be bullied or if the teacher is going to be mean etc. but I can literally say that having my daughter in swim class in AKSC has been a great experience for both me and my daughter. I feel like my daughter has become more confident and independent without me being present. The teachers are great, I love this place.

Basic kids sports center. Instructors nice and knowledgeable. We have not had an issue the 2 years we've been there. Love the experience for my kids to learn to swim and have some occasional dance fun.

Well where do I begin?! I'll start by saying you better have VERY deep pockets if you want to have your child compete with American Kids?! We didn't have any plans to have our son compete but when he started he progressed pretty quickly?! Of course, me being naive thought my son was excelling but we quickly realized it was a money pit! When we were asked the 1st time to move up to a team lvl "Rockets" we weren't told about the Jump program at all?! I had to go and ask what the additional charges were about? I figured the monthly would go up (oh and boy did it $200+) but there's also something called Jump that I was told was $10 a month and then I would have to fund raise to cover costs for competitions etc. (even though lvl 3 Rockets do not compete) I was told they start parents in Jump even though lvl 3 Rockets don't compete to get parents used to Jump and fund raising?! So I bought the mandatory uniform and water bottle and we moved up. My son LOVED it and the coach Demetri is FANTASTIC...honestly, EVERYONE is nice... it's not a bad place! I'm just frustrated with the lack of communication?! We are NOT a rich family and we have to plan our bills because we live paycheck to paycheck! So when we were asked if my son was ready to move up again I immediately went to the front desk and asked about the cost (twice)?! I was told it was going to be $395 a month and NO mention of an increase in Jump fees? I swallowed hard and went home to BEG my husband...he finally agreed and we went to 1 class before I got a credit card charge for an additional $175 for JUMP?! I was in shock? I again went straight to the front desk where I was directed to talk to Sheryl?! She said the same thing she said the 1st time I confronted her about Jump "nobody told you"? I explained I was NOT told that JUMP went from $10 a month to $175?! So that means to have my son in lvl 4 boys team it's $570 a month plus???? I understand it costs money to have a child in gymnastics but it's important to let the payee know what $$$$ they will be expected to pay monthly?! We are NOT a family that has bottomless pockets?! That's why I specifically asked what the cost would be in advance?! I still don't understand why it goes from $10 to $175 but I'll never know because we had to walk away! My son cried the whole way home and then he cried himself to sleep?! I feel like a horrible mom but we just can't afford it and if I knew the total in advance I would have NEVER moved forward?!
Again... coach Demetri is AMAZING...all the staff was wonderful! I hope that this review will help those that are unaware of how it works so you don't find out the hard way like we did?! I wish someone would have explained it to me so I didn't have to break my son's heart?!
Good luck & God bless!!!!

The people at the front desk are so great, quick to help and very understanding. The AKSC app also makes the experience really great. You can schedule makeup classes, transfer classes, and add classes all through the app. Really impressed with the upgrades here over the past couple years.

I chose to use them despite the many reviews saying they always cancel their classes. Sure enough when it came time for my daughter's 1st swimming lesson they canceled the class. I have not even gone to one swimming lesson and they are already trying to charge me for the next four. When I call in to try and speak with someone no one answers the phone. I would like to cancel it all together and go somewhere else but I cannot get a hold of anyone.

Wonderful establishment to say the least. I grew up in this gym when it was American Acadamy of Gymnastics and I am proud to send my children here now. Mike and Sherri Williams are wonderful and their staff are top notch! They offer SO MANY great classes and many other services besides Gymnastics, swim, dance & ninja. You're children will get a 5 star experience and learn so much more than expected. I am so glad Bakersfield has this amazing establishment so we can build strong and healthy kiddos!

I have my 3 year old & 5 year old girl's enrolled here for swimming lessons. Instructors have all been great. The place is nice. I would definitely recommend paying the extra money and getting the 1 on 1 for swimming lessons because when there are 3 or 4 kids with the 1 instructor, your kid is really only getting 7-10 minutes of instruction. The rest of the time they are sitting on the edge of the pool. Other than that, it has been a good experience.

They have special seasonal programs that use to be OPT-IN BUT now they started to do OPT-OUT programs and even if you don't attend then they will still charge you. Remember they are "optional" but auto charging you for them even if you don't want to attend. The switch feels like a disgusting corporate cash grab.

I have found all of the staff to be very friendly and helpful. My daughter looks forward to her swim lessons each week and absolutely loves AKU(preschool). They have a great preschool program with awesome teachers, Ms. Brooke, Mr. Bobby, and Ms. Holly are all great. My daughter loves attending preschool where she gets to participate in activities like tae Kwon do, gymnastics, dance, and even learn to play the violin! Of course they have all the other usually preschool curriculum but it's great to know they are getting those extra physical activities. The director of AKU, Ms. Melanie, has done a great job with this preschool program.

The staff is so friendly and helpful. Both of my kids attend lots of classes there (swim, gym, and preschool). I have great experiences with all the staff. My son loves coach KC & Andrew for gym and coach Dylan & Danielle for swim. It's amazing how my 3 year old is already swimming freestyle and my 1 year old is already learning his water safety skills. My kids have been there for years and the new addition of the preschool is amazing. My oldest loves getting his education and getting to do gymnastics, dance, and violin all in one place. He has started coming home and talking in Spanish. He loves his teacher Mr. Bobby.

if you like bad customer service and not having emails or phone calls returned. if you enjoy the warmth of a snooty salon receptionist and swim instructors that never smile at your child or make any connection with your child. Then this is the place for you. I can't say enough bad things about this place. stick with a small local people and stay away from this anonymous cold corporate money pit.
