I have been taking the group classes, here, with Bita, Jessie, and Ana. I have only good things to say about the classes and all three instructors. The classes are capped at 6 people, but often there are fewer people. Half the time I go, it is just me, so I end up getting tailored workouts for me!
Bita- has to be one of the most educated trainers in the area. I believe she has a PhD in sports medicine. As someone who was coming back from injury, I really appreciated her expertise and tailored exercises. Among other things, she had me doing these great balance exercises.
Jessie- if you take her Mobility classes like I did, I say it falls between Bita and Ana’s classes- some strength and some flexibility/mobility. I now warm up with her shoulder mobility and foam roller exercises. As a fellow runner, she was perfect for me.
Ana- great for a more full body strength workout. Everything is designed in circuits, and I definitely sweat during her workouts.
I had some back pain going in, and I credit these classes in part with helping me recover.

This is the first Gym I've ever joined, and it's been a great experience! I do physical activity about once a week (yoga, biking, running), but as I get older, it's not enough to keep my figure, and I'm feeling more prone to injury. That's why I decided to get a personal trainer. Ana immediately responded to my inquiry into personal training. We did ten sessions together, and it was an excellent decision! Ana is was very adept to my specific physical needs. With Ana, I learned technique for the very first time around weightlifting. Finally, I know how to lift safely and effectively to build strength and mass. The small classes are great too. Both Ana and Juan's classes provide great cardio and strength training. This is a great local gym, and a small business worth supporting. It's affordable for gym membership, and the equipment is all new and in great condition. I highly recommend it!

I've been working doing Personal Training with Ana about a year, since my knee tumor surgery (both posterior open and arthroscopic). But the surgery didn't address the severe arthritis. My knee had been hurting from the arthritis even with swimming, and especially walking downhill, for a year at that time. Ana has now gotten the muscles around my knee so strong that it no longer hurts to swim, and I can walk down steep hills again. She works me hard, to my limit, then pushes a teeny bit more. She focuses on targeted muscle groups, and emphasizes feeling which muscles are getting the work done, adjusting my position until it's correct. I am really grateful to her; I didn't think I would ever swim without pain again.

She is nearly blind, lives alone, still very independent, tootles around town with her white cane. But with having poor vision, the risk of falling is high. We got her started with Personal Training with Juan. He is personable, and motivates her to work out as hard as she can. She is now extremely proud that her balance has improved, and demonstrates by standing on one leg. After a month of working out twice/week with Juan, she noticed a strength difference, and she was a little unbelieving at that time that just 8 sessions could actually noticeably increase her strength. And now, of course, her strength has increased considerably over the past year. So when your elderly, blind mother wants to stay living in her own home independently as long as she possibly can, exercise, core strength and balance are key. Call Juan. He has made all the difference.

I've been going to this gym for almost a year now, and I can honestly say it’s one of the best fitness environments I’ve ever experienced. Ana and Juan are incredibly kind, encouraging, and genuinely invested in helping you meet your goals. Can’t recommend Ana and Juan’s gym enough! It’s always sparkling clean, well equipped, and rarely crowded. I used it primarily for my own workouts (as opposed to the small group training) but booked an introductory session with Ana to go over form, etc. and she was super helpful. And across the group training and solo gym goers, there’s a huge range in age, experience, etc—it felt very welcoming and non-intimidating in the best way.

I found Anabody Fitness on google and after reading Ana & Juan’s bios, I knew I wanted to start personal training sessions at their gym. I emailed, got a quick response and was able to schedule our first session with Juan for the following week. Juan has a background in soccer training, like I do, and my girlfriend and I started weekly private sessions with him. He listened to our goals and tailored our session to them. He kept things fresh by altering our workouts each week and making them fun but challenging. Juan is super personable and great at what he does. The gym itself is clean, well organized and has all the equipment you need. If you’re looking to get back into working out, definitely give Juan and Ana a call!

I found myself in the small classes at Anabody Fitness after years of repeat attempts to get a gym habit or workout class routine to stick. The problem with going to the gym on your own, at least for me, is insufficient self-motivation, and the problem with large workout classes is insufficient accountability. Anabody has found a way to circumvent both of these. Probably partly by accident, but also partly by design.
One is the classes are entertaining. Instructors are good at explaining the exercises, and encourage you to use proprioception as a mental exercise which provides a little bit of stimulation for the mind as you learn new movements. Also, the instructors can be pretty chatty, which can help pass the time as well.
The second is the classes are always small --- small enough that you cannot achieve anonymity and you cannot escape scrutiny. When you walk through that door, you're effectively trapped until the hour is over, and you're being watched. It's harder to slack off, and there's no sneaking out the back of a 50 person grid.
All-comers are still welcome. A benefit of the small group size is that people with different levels of fitness and strength can still get their routines personalized. That's a plus for people who might have certain accessibility concerns.
What you're left with is a class that you think, yeah I could do that again, but also you get a pretty decent workout.

We’ve been working with Ana weekly for more than 2 years at our fencing salle and her impact has been truly transformative. This gym is terrific. The equipment is new, the space is bright and clean, and most importantly, the classes are really excellent. The classes are small, so there is a lot of one-on-one help. The teachers (Juan and Ana) are always encouraging and supportive, but also really challenge you. The hour-long classes fly by, and I've learned so much. Very grateful I discovered this locally owned gym. I can't recommend it enough.

Juan has been my personal trainer for the past 8 months, and he is terrific. After trying to get me to add strength training to my fitness regime for months, my daughter found Anabody Fitness and basically harassed me into trying it. It's made such a difference. I am noticeably stronger, sturdier and more energetic. Juan, whose clients range in age from teenagers to early 90's, is a pleasure to work with. He matches the workouts to your goals, capabilities and physical restrictions, if any, and always with safety in mind. I recommend him wholeheartedly.

Anabody Fitness is a conveniently located small gym in South Berkeley. The proprietors are Ana and Juan, both personal trainers with a wealth of knowledge about fitness, body building, diet, etc. Their gym is a friendly place. They have an enormous amount of pride in their business. They keep it immaculate. The equipment is well maintained and the room is shiny and bright. Although it is small, the room is equipped with the necessary machines and free weights whether you are there for fitness or serious body building. They have on going classes. One can also book personal sessions. I have been a member since the beginning of 2024. It is a short walk from my house. I go various times of the day and it never seems crowded. When two people want to use the same station usually an arrangement for sharing is easily agreed upon. Larger gyms can be overwhelming with people all over the place and lots of noise. Anabody is a quiet space where you can concentrate on your form and leave with a sense of renewal. Members represent many different body types. Everyone is there for health. There is no reason to feel intimidated or to worry about having a $200 exercise outfit! There is a convenient electronic entry system so you can come and go between 5 am and 10 pm. When either Ana or Juan is around they are always happy to demonstrate technique, answer questions, or suggest exercises. Membership also includes several classes. In short- Anabody Fitness is a great place to stay in shape!!

I've been taking the small group classes at Anabody Fitness since they opened almost a year ago, and I'm really glad they're here. Ana's classes are more strength-focused with special attention to form while Juan's are more cardio-based HIIT classes. I take both of their classes since they're complementary. The classes are a little pricey, but they are also small (limited to 4 people) and give more individual attention than other group classes. They switch up the workouts constantly and keep them interesting- I've done barbell work on the rack, an all-cardio blast, single-side kettlebells, etc. They make sure to tailor the workouts to my individual needs, which is rare to find in a group setting. Highly recommend!

I was doing some traveling, and I found this place near where I was staying. I got their 5 day membership, which was reasonably priced, and I’m overall happy with my workouts here. It’s a small location, but the equipment is high quality and well-chosen. The location is clean too. They have everything needed for ~90% of gym go-ers, but if you’re a professional bodybuilder, powerlifter, or Olympic weightlifter, then you may want to look into other locations.
You will not find a ton of machines here, but they do have the important ones such as free-motion cable machine, leg press/hack squat, leg curl, and leg extension. They do not have all the bodybuilding machines like side-raises, chest press, chest-support seated row (although the cable machine does have a low-row position), bicep curl, and other types of isolation exercise machines.
They allow you to deadlift, but only on crash pads (no deadlift platform) which cuts your range of motion. The squat rack is a Rogue Monster Lite though so squats are good, and it even has the 1 inch hole spacing so you can fine tune where you position the J-cups. The bench is basic and doesn’t have safeties. The barbells are basic, but at least they’re not the crappy hex bolt barbells. The dumbbells are urethane dumbbells with knurled, straight handles which I prefer over the dumbbells you find in most commercial gyms. There’s a decent collection of kettlebells. There’s also some Bosu balls, resistance bands, battle ropes, and other equipment people usually use HIIT cardio and stability/physical therapy training. I don’t do cardio in the gym so I don’t remember if they have a rowing machine, but they do have the other standard cardio equipment.
Make sure you make an appointment or sign-up online before showing up to the location though. They don’t do walk-ins, and access is granted through the GymMaster app once you get a membership.

This gym has been a saving grace! Even though it’s relatively a small gym compared to others, it does not lack anything for those serious about strength and weight training.
Of note, it was a smith/cable machine, barbell rack, chest press rack, loads of free weights and open space for circuit-based training.
Another perk, if you work from home and have a flexible schedule, you can go to the gym during non-rush hours and have the entire place to yourself.
Prices are very affordable and is well-worth it. Highly recommend!

I salute Anastasia upon opening her new business, a beautiful and well-equipped gym in a wonderful and convenient location. I have worked out with her for five years, and it has been a rewarding experience. I have seen a great deal of progress over the years. During the pandemic, I worked out with Anastasia on Zoom. I have struggled throughout my life to get a consistent exercise routine going where I felt interested and excited to work out. My partner and I have been working out with Ana for about 6 months now. Pre-pandemic, we'd each go to the gym and do our own thing, but after cancelling our memberships during lockdown, and then not really having a routine, both us thought getting some 1:1 sessions might be the boost we need to up our motivation. Both of us have slightly different fitness goals and Ana has created sessions that accommodate both of us so that we can workout together.
My partner has improved his form and flexibility (not something that he was initially focused on, but Ana reiterated how important this is) and I like that every week our circuits are different so I never know what to expect. Now that I have the basics down I feel comfortable enough to do some of these exercises on my own. I have been working out with Ana for almost 6 months now and it has been great! I had never done any strength training before and I saw a huge difference in my balance, posture and stamina since I started with Ana. I have usually not been very motivated about working out and Ana changed that too. She made me really enjoy the workouts - something I never expected to happen.

Anna is the best. I had an on again/off again relationship with exercise, and started working with her in early 2021 to create a more structured workout routine. I've seen noticable improvement in my strength, flexibility, and overall wellness through working with Anna. I used to dread workouts and now I feel energized by them. I worked out with Ana to get motivated again. She is an excellent trainer (I have not had one before). She kept the workouts interesting and varied and I saw definite progress with my goals. She listened carefully and is knowledgable about exercise science. When I came to a session with a small injury (that I got somewhere else) she made adjustments to the plan that didn't aggravate me but kept me on track. She is a pleasure to chat with as well. I started fairly fit but I think she would be helpful for a person at any stage of their exercise journey.
