Teachers are very engaging, plenty of comfort seating for the parents, a snack bar that offers adult drinks, indoc was friendly, all areas are meticulously cleaned, and a play area for kids that aren't in class. Patricia is very connecting to her students and the same can be said about the caring of all the instructors. Worth every penny, wish I could throw a thank you bar-b-que for the staff.

I was extremely disappointed with Aquatech’s customer service. My daughter had a sudden medical emergency on the way to her swim class, and instead of showing understanding, the staff refused to issue a make-up token. Their phone number doesn’t even allow you to leave a voicemail, so in the middle of an ER situation, I wasn’t going to pull over to fill out an online absence form. I even offered to provide medical documentation, but that still wasn’t considered β€œgood enough.” After going back and forth via email, I finally got a call back from the supervisor, Lea, only after repeatedly requesting to speak with someone. When she did call, she was dismissive and rude, reading policies word for word without any compassion for our situation. For a place that works with children and families, the lack of empathy was shocking. Families deserve better treatment in circumstances beyond their control. Do your family a favor and find another swim school. They clearly don’t seem to care.

We had a great experience at the school. They have a great system of letting you know what skills your child mastered.we had a few teachers and everyone was knowledgeable and knew how to act with kids. Luis, one of the Managers, was always very helpful and friendly.

Clean facility, staff are nice, snack bar and a small play area with mats and muted TV for kids. Learn the process, and be patient.

Unfortunately they don’t heed much to their own internal criteria about allowing a student move up a level. DEFINITELY MONEY GRABBING MINDSET.
Trying to keep your kid in the same level so they can squeeze maximum $. Those who join beginner levels beware of the fact: not much learning other than dipping your kid around in the pool and holding breath under water. Not really much of teaching / training - especially for children with special learning needs. Some coaches are better than others.

Never heard of this place until I came across it from Groupon. They lured you in through Groupon but once you're in (took them 3 months to find us an availability), they treat you like you're second class because you didn't pay the full amount. They will tell you, no make up token for you because you're a Groupon holder and that's already a discounted rate, even though they said they'll give you a make up token if your child is having a bad day. In my case, it was really bad. I had mistakenly put my son in Seahorse class instead of Starfish (you should all know this, right?!) where he was not ready to swim on his own. But the instructor, who should've made aware that my son who swallowed water once, then twice ok then third time, and thought, hmm... this boy is not ready to be in class, maybe he should've used this floaty, or maybe I can guide him and talk to the parents afterward. But no, he let him swam on his own where he doesn't know how to breathe for air yet so he breathed under water and swallowed water, again, and again, and again for the next 30 minutes. There was terror on his face and he looked absolutely horrified. Parents aren't allowed around the pool until the class is over but I should've stepped in and grabbed him out. He refused to go in the 2nd time we were there and understandably so. He was traumatized.
Of course they wouldn't give him the make up token, because we're Groupon holder. Well, we're never setting foot in that place again.

Your kid may learn swimming but you as a parent will be drowned in their inflexible policies that seem to be designed around parent vulnerabilities.

1.5 hr swimming time equals to 3-4 hrs with customer support calls/emails, filling out attendance forms, bookings, keep on checking waiting lists etc.. unnecessarily complicated. As someone else said, bit of a money grab.

GoldFish Swim School: come save Cali πŸ˜†

It's a bit of a money grab vs other swim schools we've experienced.

If you're child is already experienced/into aquatic sport this place will help with technical swimming skills.

If you're looking for a place to train a child / gain comfort in the water it's not very engaging or fun for the children.

Lots of zoned out young workers just staring at the clock.

There missed appointment / token system is stingy at best. You'll be paying if you don't cancel a class well in advanced. Not as laxed as other children's schools we've been to.

When dealing with children there should be more lenient policies.

We started taking class during Covid. If you get a coveted spot don't give it up! The hardest part is getting a spot, everything else is excellent. Our kids are strong and fast swimmers, and even if one is just seeking water safety this is a great way to go.

My daughter has been doing well learning to swim. According to her, she is sinking less, lol. The facility is clean, and the instructors make the kids feel confident they can do the lesson for the hour. The parent viewing area is lovely, so your kiddo can wave and see you watching. Adequate parking, so never a fight to find a parking space. Forgot some swim gear? There is a convenient (yet expensive) shop to save the day.

Great swimming instruction, not so great account management.

They're great with kids and families, hence the 4 star rating since that's their purpose. Their account management is challenging at best. Desk staff may or may not enter data correctly. The web interface is a mess. Even if you call to correct information, they may or may not get it correct.
Update: web interface can still use work!

Been to a few different swim schools in the bay and AquaTech alameda by far has the best facilities. It's super clean, the staff is really friendly and welcoming, the instructors are great, it's big and not stuffy, and there's beer and wine.

We did the parent-kid Tadpole 30 minute group lessons once we were able to get in off the waitlist, it look about 5 weeks I believe. On the first day, we got a tour which was really complete and answered a lot of our questions. They have like 30 changing stalls, approximately 8-10 that have a changing table so we never had to wait. The showers are in the same room as the pool so you can just rinse off quickly, grab stuff from your cubby, and then go change. It is well designed and has a great flow.

10/10 would recommend.

We moved to the east bay several years ago and continued to travel to SF for swim classes every Saturday. We decided to give Aquatech a try to be a little closer to home. Thank goodness we tried it before completely changing schools because we were extremely dissatisfied with our Aquatech experience compared to the swim school we’re still currently enrolled in.

Their changing stalls were dirty / dingy, and dark. Seemed like they hadn’t been cleaned in over a year.
They don’t properly assess the kids on their skill level and based on what I observed in the 30 minutes we were there, they don’t challenge the kids to their potential
All communication was done through their online portal which meant it was difficult to have a discussion with their staff about leveling, scheduling, and payment
You pay for a months worth of classes up front and they do not offer refunds if you decide to unenroll

Before signing up for a class, We used Aquatech’s online swimmer assessment tool to determine the class level. The online tool informed us she would be a β€œPuffer fish”. The criteria for the recommended class also aligned with the Level 3 class at our child’s current swim school. After her first class at Aquatech, they emailed us to inform us our child needed to be two levels lower than what they were enrolled in, that they don’t have any openings at the lower level class at this time, and to call the school to make other arrangements. We wrote back to say we disagree with their assessment and explained that she is enrolled in a level 3 at another school and if they dont have a class for her, then we want a refund for the remaining 3 classes. We received a generic automated response back from Aquatech letting us know they don’t offer refunds but they would credit our account to attend another class in the future when one becomes available. We were then advised by Aquatech to unenroll our child before the auto-renewal date so that we don’t get charged for another month, and to do that, we had to submit our request through a form on their website.

Our experience with Aquatech was frustrating and disappointing and we are so thankful we kept our child enrolled in the SF school.

We had been here 5 years on and off. Supervisor who has no supervisor β€œheidi” shouted at my child and I and then when I refused to be shouted at again terminated our service for discourteous behavior. Not ADA compliant and will be filing. We have had numerous run ins with them not complying with reasonable accommodations set in place for disabled people. The instructors are lovely. The staff at the desk are terrible. β€œHeidi’” is apparently a relation to the owners. My child made little to no progression in the last year and they had little to no knowledge of how disabled students accommodations needed to happen and had been unsafe on the pool deck. They have a groupon which tells you people are leaving in droves. YMCA has lessons. Richmond has lessons and Ohana do lesson. Plenty of other places.

Update: after sending an email, someone called me right away and explained - the Customer Portal only shows available classes for the current billing cycle and only 7 days in advance, so if you email and get through to a live human, they can put you on open classes for the next billing cycle - this was EXTREMELY helpful. The live human also answered all my questions patiently and was able to get me/my child on a class 4 weeks from today. The Groupon deal is valid for 4 classes and does not permit make-ups. Otherwise, it's a great deal.

Previous review: We googled swim class for babies and got a Groupon deal for AquaTech for $70 plus 25% off. Seemed great. Read a previous Yelp review where someone commented on how difficult it is to get into an actual class, no waitlist, and basic inefficient business practices but the deal was too great to pass up so went ahead and bought it. I signed up for Customer Portal (only then are you able to access the classes) and found that every single class (on 10+ pages of results) is booked. The tadpole classes for babies (which is the class I'm interested in) is also fully booked.

What kind of bait and switch is this? If you don't have class availability stop selling Groupons.

Also tried calling, the 866 number is an answering service, you will NOT get through to a live human.

Also tried emailing, got a Zendesk ticket with an auto reply.

We have been customers for nearly 7 years. Our older son is nearly done with the program and it took a while.

I am giving 3 stars because our 3 yr old has been enrolled in the toddler class for almost 2 years. Since he turned 3 we have been unable to get him into the starfish class. We keep being told to call during a special window of time when kids dropout. Today I was actually told to submit a class request form EVERYDAY after 5pm! It is disappointing that as such dedicated customers, we can't get into a class. I am not sure we want to continue to pay to wait for another class while our 3.5yr old stays in the toddler class. I cannot call and check the website everyday for an opening.

Another note is that my son has gotten changes in teachers just when he is about to advance. Then time is spent getting to to know a new teacher that doesn't advance them for several MONTHS more.

I also echo another review that where the reviewer mentions that they are not taught to tread water. I don't think my 7 year old learned to tread water until he went to his cousins pool and was already in his 4th or 5th class at Aquatech.

If you have money and patience, then check this place out.

No masks or vaccination requirements for staff despite working with children under 5 years old. Had my kiddo in lessons for past year because they used to take COVID precautions. Wife took kiddo for lesson this morning and instructor had no face shield. It turns out Aquatech have now abandoned COVID precautions. Wife spoke with owner to see if they’d be willing to accommodate kiddo (who has immune compromised family member)with a teacher willing to mask and owner said no. Then tried to claim they had to follow CDC guidelines. In case anyone is unclear on this, private business DO NOT have to follow CDC guidance but many like to say this to avoid responsibility.
Would have appreciated knowing this change before they billed me for the month and are now trying to only offer credit toward future classes.

My son has been taking classes at Aqua Tech Swim School in Alameda for many years. The stuff is always very friendly, encouraging, supportive and professional. We’ve had many teachers over the years and my son loved all of them! He has progressed quickly. They also offer family swim time. If we ever had a question that couldn’t be answered right away, one of the member stuff would follow up quickly over the phone or in person in a short period of time. The facility is clean, warm and modern. During the pandemic, they follow all of the right procedures and make me and my son feel very safe. They all wear masks and shields and have very limited number of people during the classes. Almost every time I’m at the facility, things are being continuously disinfected. Overall, it has been a wonderful experience all around.

Don't come here for private lessons!!! Pre-COVID private lessons were impossible to make up, mid-COVID and still impossible! Even worse, a lot of private lessons were canceled due to their decision to close the location Mondays/Tuesdays, their response "We're sorry, it was a hard decision and we know it isn't fair but the only thing we can do is give you a make up credit for the private lesson that you will be missing due to the Monday/Tuesday closure" oh, also, make up credits are now ONLY for group lessons. So I paid $250 for 4 private lessons ($62.50 per lesson), and you replacing one with a $30 group lesson? Oh, and all my previous private lesson make up credits are ALL no longer able to be used for private make ups. What a rip off! I go to the school and talk to a manager, there's nothing they can do. They tell me to call the number on Google. I've called that number 50 times today, and all I've ever got was an unprofessional voicemail "Daaaarnnnn. All if our agents are currently occupied or unavailable...." The website doesn't let me fill out any forms without accepting their new terms and conditions, policy, etc. Their number doesn't get me anywhere, neither does going to the school in person. I now have 5 make up credits from missed private lessons that can now only be used for group lessons. That's 5 lost private lessons, @ $62.50 a lesson. Don't waste your money.

We've got both of our daughters coming here for weekly classes. The girls love it and one of them who is afraid of getting water in her hair is no longer afraid.

Facility is clean, instructors although mostly young are very polite and seem to love what they do. They have a little snack bar with some beverages and food for both kids and adults while you're waiting for your class to complete.

They also have some big screen TVs and a little play area for the toddlers so they can watch a movie or play with some toys while adults can watch the NBA or whatever is on. There's a set of lockers at dedicated parking lot and showers and changing booths.

A great setup. Located right outside the Webster tube for those who live outside of Alameda.

Yikes this place is so crowded. When we got there, there was no cubby space left, so I had to hoist my backpack on the very top of the cubbies (I'm 6 months pregnant). You cannot use soap in the public showers, they only have public showers. So if you or your children have chlorine sensitive skin, you can only rinse with water- no soap. There are lines for everything: showers, bathrooms, changing stations, steps for the pool, yikes! Also swim lessons are $24/lesson for 25 minutes of instruction, with 15 other students. So there's a total of 30 people per lesson in the pool for ages under 3 (parents swim with children), which is the last 1/8 of the pool. The are other lessons in every single lane going on at the same time, so it's also very loud.

Beware of shady billing practices: You must download a form and submit to withdraw from lessons, but the website doesn't allow you to download the form. E-mailing to request to cancel merely generates a response to go to the website to download the form. There website may not always BE broken, but it is definitely broken on the last day of the month (which means you have to pay for the entire next months swim lessons PLUS the annual registration fee.)

Impressive facility and staff, extremely dedicated to teaching others how to swim. Convenient cafe located inside so you can grab a beverage or bite to eat while waiting.

The instructors are great. I also like that the pool is indoors so we don't have to worry about sunscreen.

If your children are not currently enrolled in swimming at Aquatech in Alameda get them enrolled. This is an amazing swim school top notch and they get results out of your children! #Handsdownthebest #5stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We've been taking our now 8 month old baby there for about 4 or 5 months for the Aquababy open swim time on Saturday mornings. We love coming here. The pool is indoor (no sunscreen!!), warm and absolutely geared toward kids. The Aquababy time is specifically for those under age 2 so it's all babies with parents and no crazy kids jumping around. The pool is also 4ft deep everywhere. They have lots of fun toys for the babies to use. They also have great changing facilities - lots of individual rooms with changing tables. There are no lockers, just cubbies, so don't bring valuables. The pool can get packed on Sat morning, must be because it's popular but if you come toward the beginning, it's fine. We'll be back again! We really like this place!

Nice school, good teachers. We have been going there for about 4 years now, and progress for students is a little slow. Also, it is hard to get into certain classes, long wait lists.

I liked school better a few years ago, when students got more individual attention. Sometimes growth is good, but it seems the prices keep rising and the classes getting shorter. Half hour class is actually about 20 minutes of instruction.

This club does an excellent job of training children to swim. They have a new state-of-the -art pool and training center.
My only real complaints are the odd showers that are in the pool area, requiring showering fully clothed, and the issue of the school being overbooked.

We go swimming here with our 1 year old baby girl every Saturday. The place itself is OK, the staff sometimes turn on ventilation which makes it to cold there. It also can be sometimes crowded.

Pool water temperature is very nice.
