Lovely studio with great teachers! Great big practice room, welcoming decor, and the skylights make me so happy. Both the staff and students are very diverse, which makes it feel like a place that everybody can find their center.

There's free tea and hot water on tap, which is great. Bathrooms are stocked with hairbands and tampons, which is great. As a member, you can store your yoga mat at the studio, which is essential to my ease of going to yoga. There are a lot of classes and class times; there's always something convenient and interesting. Also, it's regular temperature yoga, thank goodness, haha.

Online class sign ups are super easy. Pricing is great - $165 a month for unlimited classes is normal pricing in the area and I feel like you get so much for the price.

Livanna is my absolute favorite teacher - I wish they would give her more time slots! Andrea is another stand out. Honestly though, I haven't taken a bad class here, all of the teachers are amazing.

The studio has a great variety of excellent teachers, and a lovely community of yogis in every class. On top of the weekly schedule, there’s always something new at the weekends. Really enjoyed Alex’s Pilates-inspired workshop and Lyz’s Nutcracker-themed class just before the Holidays!

You can’t schedule a class here without tech. What if I was a little old lady who isn’t tech savvy enough for that? Or what if I just don’t want to use technology to take a yoga class? Well I can’t come here. And the teacher was too wordy for me. Sheesh. For all those words maybe you can actually say the NAME OF THE POSE you’re taking us into.

This is a great yoga studio with lots of variety in its offerings. I love the more spiritually focused classes, particularly Victoria's slow flow class (currently 9 on Wednesdays). She is very informed and teaches the why as well as the what (without talking too much)! Great class.

At the beginning of the summer, I decided to invest in a monthly membership at Arise Yoga, and it the BEST decision I've made in a very long time. Since I can store my mat at the beautiful studio and easily sign up for an array of classes, I have found myself getting into a yoga routine that has eluded me in the past. So far, I have been able to attend 2-3 classes a week, and I feel like a new person. I have now worked with five different teachers, each one so welcoming, clear, and inspiring. Arise Yoga is indeed a gem of Oakland; I am so happy to have joined the community. Jenny (the manager) will make you feel right at home.

I went to this studio for the first time today and absolutely loved it! I’ve struggled to find a studio that fits my needs time wise and that feels like a welcoming and warm place so I was super excited to find this place. I just got back from a yoga retreat in Bali and was missing my early morning workouts. I joined the 7 am class today and plan on going everyday this week! Thank you for being my Bali yoga away from Bali.

What a gem of a yoga studio! Visiting my daughter in Oakland, as a yoga teacher myself, I treated myself to a week of classes at this beautiful space. I took a variety of different classes with different teachers. Every single teacher was so loving, skilled, and open hearted. The community was great, and it was so much fun to practice alongside these beautiful yogis. The space is so inviting and restful. I could go on and on. I will carry the time I spent at Arise yoga with me for a long while, and I can't wait to get back to Oakland so I can return to the studio!

Went to my first practice at Arise today (Hatha Flow) and LOVED IT! The teacher created a space for us to have fun and connect with our body and breathe. If you're new: I didn't feel very welcome to the studio or like anyone explained more about what to expect. Probably wont be coming back despite it being the closest to my house, and definitely didn't appreciate the random double charges from missing a class during my trial week.. basically if you already paid for a class, but then miss it, you have to pay even more. I didn't see anything about this beforehand so better transparency is necessary. I can't believe they charge you even more for classes you already paid for if you aren't able to make it that day.. I've never encountered another studio with these policies

First time at Arise Yoga this week. It's a nice, open, well-appointed studio. Checked out the Arise and Flow on Saturday morning and got the one week unlimited deal. Did two more Arise and Flows through the week. I got a sample of two teachers. Both were excellent, but with their own distinctive styles. One was more physically focused (challenging), but also had a nice commentary and sequencing. The other teacher was a revelation, synthesizing practices that would individually be the focus of multiple different classes, and creating a wonderful nourishing whole. With most great teachers I've experienced, there is a sense that they see your needs and give you something personal. It's a rare treat to get that and a studio that supports such a teacher deserves 5 stars.

What a beautiful space! I’ve only taken one class so this review is solely based on Sophia’s sound meditation workshop:

I’m not really a yoga person, but I love yoga and I love music. I’ve been to many studios in oakland and Berkeley and it’s hard to find teachers that really want to create a warm inviting space for *everybody*. Sophia is that teacher. Everything is modified to be at your individual level. I’ve known Sophia for years and she has always been my favorite, but after taking this sound workshop... I am really in awe. There was beautiful singing. She gave us all a flower. And we had warm turmeric chais (courtesy of Kiranjot) afterwards. It was two hours but honestly the time just flew by. I hope it becomes a regular thing! Thank you, Sophia ❤️

I love Arise Yoga! I just started doing yoga again after not doing it for 15 years. My back started hurting and so I thought I would give it a try again. It has already reduced my back pain by 90% after 2 visits. I'm hooked again. I'm 64 so I know I needed to do something different to keep my body pain free and clearly yoga is it. And I love the facility and the people at Arise Yoga. Check it out. You will love it! Robert

Slowly slipping back into in-person classes. I am really happy with my experience so far. The studio space is nice, the instructor had a great energy and she clearly prepared a thoughtful series of poses. More than anything, I feel relieved that they actually asked me for vaccine verification. Right now masking indoors is optional in Alameda gyms. There are plenty of gyms/studios that have an honor system policy. This is not one of them and that makes me feel safe here. It's the primary reason I picked this studio for my first in person class in October 2021 since February 2020.

I'm so happy to be back on my mat with other humans! This is a great studio space, with a wide variety of excellent teachers and guides. The studio is large and has really nice light (skylights) which sets the stage for a fully focused practice. With the renewed CA mask mandate on now, they've opened up the back patio area for classes, which is a bonus because it's hard to practice with a mask on. The location is perfect, easy parking across the street, and the awesome Oakland vibe abounds. Highly recommended.

Beautiful space positioned right near Lake Merritt. The class was held outside, I was happy to be able to remove my mask. Really enjoyed my first time at Arise. They've created a large and very breezy studio, and the teacher was excellent. Great music, vibe, and super easy sign up process. Excited to join in the community here for a regular practice. I have only sporadically done video yoga classes this past year and was pretty rusty and stiff going in. Please come here for yoga! I am very grateful that Arise Yoga is helping me relocate the space to practice in my life. Unfortunately, I am not one of the disciplined and self-actualized souls who can practice yoga by myself at home, but going to Arise has already helped me reconnect with my practice and shake off some of the out-of-bodyness I've been feeling in lockdown. Also, I really appreciate Arise's commitment to community and creating an inclusive space, where yoga is taught and practiced by people of different races, ages, body types, and genders! They are working to try to make you feel like your body belongs in yoga space, so if yoga has felt dissociative to you in the past, Arise may work better for you than your previous gym or yoga studio...

The Arise studio is a magical space that I enjoyed for many years when it was Namaste. I'm so grateful that Jillian started Arise Yoga so that the flow of teaching and community can continue in that beautiful building. I took an in-studio class with Sophia Mallie today and it was a fantastic experience. Stepping back into the studio was a thrill and it also reminded me why I consider Arise to be the best studio space I have ever practiced in, anywhere in the US, during my 23 years of study. These next few months, as we transition out of the pandemic, are going to be a tightrope walk for small businesses. So, please stop in and check out Arise, take a class, start a membership (I did) and let's celebrate our amazing Grand Lake yoga community!
