Went to get a protein shake. The woman said they’re checking in people and can’t do shakes for 20 minutes. People can do self check in..false advertising they do shakes. Losing revenue just because they can’t automate check in.

Steven’s energy is absolutely amazing! His cueing is spot-on, the music is always fantastic, and he brings such a positive vibe both in and out of the Red Room. I always enjoy taking his classes and today’s was no exception — thank you, Steven, for making it such a great one! I’ll definitely be taking more of your classes in the future. 🔥💪

I booked this class special for my birthday, and I needed to spend it with Tommy. He made me feel at home and made several shout-outs to let everyone know it was my birthday. I'll never forget my special day at Barry's.

Wow! Vinnie challenged us every minute of class while keeping us motivated and ready for more. The tread sequences were unique, floor sequences and combinations structured well and the energy level high the entire 50 minutes. Thank you, Vinnie!

I’ve been a part of the Barry's community for 3 years and have always loved the sport and the environment they’ve created. I’ve visited studios in over five states, and the SF Fidi location is usually great. However, I recently took a class with Max R, and it was honestly the worst experience I’ve had with an instructor. He didn’t demonstrate the exercises at all knowing that it was a room full of many first-timers, and no one seemed to be on track with the workout. He was honestly straight up mean to the guests and he kept messing up the counts. It really brought down the overall experience at this studio.

Front desk people moved spots around for those checking in before class, didn’t know what spots were available in the room, kept a bunch of us in limbo 7 minutes into class, all to squeeze a couple extra dollars out which is unacceptable for a $37 workout class.

Fun classes every time I go! They do a good job at giving new clients the 101 on how a Barry's class runs before you step into the red room for the workout. Facilities and restrooms are clean, and staff are always helpful. Love Brian's class, but always a solid workout no matter what instructor I take

Horrible cancellation policy. I bought an intro package with the intention of buying one of the larger expensive packages afterwards. Will be buying a membership with another gym. The booking system is pretty confusing with “lifting” only spots if there are not enough treadmills and also waitlist spots. In this confusion I was booking thing incorrectly and cancelled them right after booking. The cancellations took my class credits and basically I wasted money. Feels very scammy to me. I called to talk to the front desk about it but it didn’t seem like they wanted to keep a client. Will look elsewhere.

As someone who primarily does weight lifting the cardio is brutal and I was wishing there were more double floor spots. Tommy was great, no nonsense showed my around for my first time and gave great cues without feeling like a drill sergeant. I really appreciate instructors who leave you alone to your own pace. Felt like I was going to die 20 minutes in which I'm told is the Barry's special.

I love Riti’s classes. The workouts have variations week to week (even though I take the same class every week) and they’re the right balance of being challenging and achievable. I also like her choice of music which contributes to the class having great energy. On top of that, she’s been very helpful to talk through nutrition questions I have with my journey after class. She’s 12/10 — hard to believe she’s only been at Barry’s for less than two years.

As an out of towner, Barrys is a really good thing to do should your hotel not have a good gym. The classes I did were good and productive. I wish they would add a 'pound (lb)' to kilogram conversion sign next to the dumbbells to help us foreigners understand the imperial system only the US use, where as all other Barrys locations in the entire planet all use metric kilograms. I didn't hit my peak performance because I picked a too light a weight.

I have been going to Barry’s intermittently since I was in college. I’ve referred an incredible number of people to Barry’s over the years and even hosted corporate events there. I recently moved to SF and I was so excited to be near a Barry’s again so I bought a package. Unfortunately I’ve been sick a great deal this year, including the bulk of November and December when (of course!) my class package expired. I reached out multiple times to see if I could get the package extended and heard nothing. I finally caught someone who indicated that they could extend the package … with a doctor’s note. I don’t know about you but that seems absolutely crazy. I’m not 12 years old and Barry’s is not my high school principal. People of different minds may have other opinions and to each their own. But I’m on day 6 of having Covid and on week 7? of being sick just this winter. Being told to go the doctor to get a note so my gym won’t cancel my package that I paid hundreds of dollars for is not the response I was hoping for. I will not be returning.

I wish I could give this location more than 2 starts but sadly the attitude I encountered today September 20 2023 left me with a bitter taste in my mouth and almost overwrote the good feeling I got from my workout. On this day I took the 7:10 class and this tall white guy was working behind the counter (sadly I didn’t get his name) everything was good until after the class when I came out asking if I could have a smoothie (since I forgot to request one before class) the lovely lady that was working with him was kind to explain to me that they can’t until after they end up checking in the other class which I understood and let it go but this individual had to add his sassy attitude and said “we have told you many times before that the smoothies need to be ordered before the class” and gave me a fake smile.
1. I have never met him before therefore he doesn’t have that report with me to talk to me that way
2. He has never told me that before because we have never met and I don’t live in San Francisco so as a result he is lying.
3. I don’t pay prime prices to get that response from an employee.
I have been a Barry’s client for more than 5 years and my journey started in San Francisco. Is so sad to see that the service of this location is decaying like the city. Good work out horrible customer service.

What a terrible class. I have been going to barrys for years, nearly 4x a week but my first time in the fidi studio. The ac was broken prior to class and I saw the instructor ask the front desk- they tried to help but it was still broken and did not tell the class. As a result it was 85-90 degrees in class, similar to hot yoga but at an unhealthy level for weight lifting and running. The mirrors were all foggy from everyones breathing and condensation and the treadmills were slippery due to lack of any air flow. The class kept going when in the beginning they should have told everyone- if they wanted to stay great, and if not, they could get a credit for a future class. Really bad experience for even a loyal barrys client. Running at over 9mph is unhealthy in 85-90 degrees. After class I gave them feedback but was not met with a refund to make up for it. What they dont understand is that doing class in that heat actually doesn’t give you a great workout even though you’re sweating. You can barely max out or push yourself. This was a case where barrys cared more about making money from the class rather than the quality or well being of it’s clients. I also learned that apparently this happens frequently at this location from others. I will NOT go to fidi again.

Enjoyable workout in downtown San Francisco. Workouts are an alternating mix of running for cardio and strength training. The instructor and staff are quite friendly. Instructions can be a bit hard to follow due to simultaneous running and strength workouts. Locker room is ample with plenty of towels and products. Post workout smoothies are good and coviently ready for pickup at the end of the class.

Was a little confused where it was when heading east on Bush, but go past the building that says 333 and go into the courtyard with the pizza spot. In there you will find Barry’s. Was a little intimidating when I first arrived, but the people at the help desk are wonderful and answered all my questions while checking in. I got a quick run down on the amenities and the Red room. It is just a room with free weights, treadmills, and resistance bands. You work out to the music alternating between running on the treadmills and exercising on the floor. All you got to do is listen to the trainer tell you when to do the next exercise and for how long. The class is fun and goes by quick. I’m always drenched in sweat by the end.

Nice lobby, friendly staff, good shakes/smoothies, high quality equipment and lockers.

Studio is cramped and you’re on top of each other, instructor communication poor (even regulars seemed to be confused what to do), programming is subpar, and more focused on maintaining the ‘energy’ than a workout.

If you’re looking for party, scene, and to sweat, come to Barry’s. If you’re looking for a higher quality workout, more space, better programming, and also to sweat, go to Orangetheory.

I always love Barry's and this one did not disappoint! It was a solid experience and I really enjoyed the coaching from Brian - he was a solid coach and gave a lot of encouragement.

I enjoyed being able to alternate between treadmills and weight training - honestly for me the weights were the hardest part - they let you choose whatever weight you want - so try to go lighter since they really load the reps on you here.

The showers and amenities were really awesome too - I got all I needed from the showers and felt really clean at the end of a heartpumping workout!

If I had limitless disposable income, I would come to Barry's every day. But my bank account tells me no.

When I'm feeling extra splurge-y, I usually head over to the SOMA location because A) SOMA classes are 60minutes long while the FiDi's is 50 minutes so more bang for that expensive buck, B) Never had a weird class experience at SOMA but FiDi has some instructors who aren't really with it. The last FiDI class I attended, the instructor forgot an entire rep for our left, and his explanations were all over the place.

A little bit on the expensive side as far as group workout classes go, but I think you get your money's worth in terms of the great instructors, clean amenities (workout room, locker room, showers, fuel bar). Classes right before and after work can fill up quickly, so I recommend booking exactly a week in advance at noon if you want to get that coveted spot for that in demand trainer (e.g. Tuesday at noon, for the following Tuesday's class). It's a great workout combining treadmill running/sprinting with weights, and the focus areas differ depending on the day of the week (Monday = Arms/Abs, Tuesday = Lower Body, Wed = Chest/Abs, Thursdays = Lower Body/Abs, Friday to Sunday = Full Body). No commitment required and you can sign up for classes either on a per month basis or per class basis with packs. They do have other locations in SF (SOMA, Castro, Marina) if those are closer or more convenient for you. Enjoy!

★ 2

Overly commercial and expensive for what it is, but also an efficient workout. This location is pretty middling, especially when compared to other cities.

Pros:
+ More showers than in some locations (men’s locker room comment) - believe there are 4 vs 2 in Soma
+ Convenient location for those working near fidi - right off Montgomery BART
+ Great instructors - of course the good instructors fill up quickly, so book early (and cancel at least 12 hours before if you can’t make it to avoid loss of credit)

Cons:
+ Very commercial - shortened classes to 50 mins from 1 hour to squeeze more classes in and generate more revenue (yes, still costs $35 per class)
+ Rigid rules eliminate human element of interaction and common sense - for example, one must show up 5+ mins before class or they’ll give away your spot (even if you arrive 4 mins before class, they might give away your spot knowing you are present and charge you for the class). Staff often won’t pick up the phone
+ Tight squeeze - some floor spots have little space, are pressed up right against pillars and detract from the experience

I finally went for the first time and which I’d gone sooner! The environment is fantastic. Everyone was super supportive and nice throughout the class. The instructor was great and the class, while extremely challenging went by super fast and was a blast!

Be aware of the expiration date when you purchase a class or package. The expiration date is not the last day that you can purchase or reschedule a class. I am very disappointed at Barry's policy. The locker room is very small. It is difficult to get charged in the locker room. There are not enough showers either. It is usually more than 10 minutes wait to use the shower with the long line after a class. But for reals, I bought classes that I cannot book because they need to be in the future, and am suffering from an injury right now.

Love-hate relationship at its finest.

I love that Barry's is sooo close to my workplace and kicks my ass every time. I also hate that I put myself through this but in the end all that sweat and work is worth it.

The facility has all the amenities with clean bathrooms, plenty of lockers, and fuel bar! Each class is about ~$30 depending if you buy a pack or just individual classes. They're pretty standard for specialty type fitness classes. IF you want a good workout that balances cardio and strength training then I highly recommend trying out a class! I also love the instructors! So far, I've really enjoyed taking Katie's classes on Tuesday and Friday for Butt & Legs and Full Body respectively. She's funny, energetic, and her playlist is great (songs with heavy beats).

Tips:

1. reserve your classes early! and don't cancel (if you do make sure its at least 24 hour ahead of time to avoid fees)
2. come at least 10 minutes early to check in and avoid losing your spot.
3. grab a towel because you will sweat. A LOT.
