I really really like the coaches, they seem to genuinely care about you and are very serious about proper form to avoid injuries. This is hands down the best gym/fitness studio I’ve ever been to as I’m seeing results, I actually enjoy showing up to workout, and the ppl are great!

One of the best workout studios in the area. I’m a classpass member which is where I found this place, and ended up getting an annual membership because the times are flexible in Am and PM, instructors are amazing and helpful (Jeff is personable but also helps you improve your PR and monitors your form), and the space is clean/new. All around amazing!

I joined Basecamp San Mateo when it first opened, and it’s been an even better experience than I could have imagined. The workouts are great, but what sets the San Mateo location apart is the sense of community that has been built. Everyone who comes to the gym treats each other with respect, is supportive, and wants to get to know each other so there aren’t your typical “gym cliques”. The instructors are all super knowledgeable and I appreciate how they really take the time to correct form during the workout to help prevent injury. There are people of all abilities working out next to each other and we’re cheering each other on. Obviously we all end up with our favorite instructors but the reality is that everyone is great (note that if super loud music isn’t your vibe try Alicia or Jeff). I go to run club (albeit inconsistently), and am always welcomed with open arms and high fives when I finish.
Great workout, amazing people, a real community. What more do you need??

My husband and I are obsessed with Basecamp and have been going for the past four years. Over the last year, we've been regulars at the San Mateo location, and honestly, we rarely miss a day because we love it so much.
Before starting at Basecamp, I was mainly a cardio/running girl but Basecamp changed it for me. It's the perfect combo of strength and cardio. The workout changes everyday and you spend 60ish seconds on the bike, then switch to 60ish seconds of strength on the floor, and repeat through different workouts for 35 minutes. Each day focuses on a different body part, like upper body, lower body, core, or full body, and it always wraps up with a 10-minute ab workout.
As much as I love the workout, it's the instructors and staff that make Basecamp awesome! The instructors are the best. They know how to push you just enough while still making sure you're comfortable. They're super attentive, always checking on everyone's form and giving helpful tips if you're open to it. The front desk staff is just as awesome and are friendly, welcoming, and ready to help with any questions.
The facilities are also a huge plus. Everything is clean, and the instructors sanitize and mop after every class. There are showers, restrooms, and even a Performance and Recovery room with plenty of equipment for overflow when classes are full. They've thought of everything to make the experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
If you're thinking about trying Basecamp, just do it! I can't recommend it enough. It's such a fun and supportive environment, and the workouts will leave you feeling amazing. Give it a try you wont regret it!

I have been a BC member for almost 8 years and I LOVE it! I am a faithful M-F 5:15am class taker and it the best way to start my day ; the coaches and members bring the positivity and push you need to take on anything the rest of the day. My friends and I love the workouts as Basecamp. The staff is super nice and friendly. The instructors are motivating and want you to push yourself. I love this place. Everyone is so helpful: top notch trainers, the staff are always so helpful, and it’s great working out and getting fit with other people. I used to pay a traditional gym for years but I wasn’t motivated the way I am here at BASECAMP. I have never been more consistent. I highly recommend joining and trying it out. Working out in a group is such a great experience, but it’s really special here in San Mateo!

They have well designed training routines that are challenging and fun at the same time. Joining Basecamp San Mateo a month ago was hands-down one of the best decisions I’ve made for my fitness journey. I initially signed up for their 5-day trial for just $5, thinking it would be a nice way to supplement my usual workouts. I had no idea I’d end up loving it so much that I’d become member!
The workouts are phenomenal — just 35 minutes, yet packed with intensity, variety, and purpose. You truly feel the burn in the best way possible. I especially appreciate the flexibility in class times, which makes it easy to fit into my schedule, and the focus on stretching and core at the end of each session is truly worth staying for.
What really sets Basecamp San Mateo apart, though, is the people. From day one, I felt welcomed and supported. My first class with coach Alan (the best!) was such a positive experience — he was incredibly kind, motivating, and patient, offering guidance while also pushing us to maximize our potential. Since then, I’ve also taken classes with Alicia, Viktoriya, Bryson, Angeline, and Jerileen, and each one brings their own energy, expertise, and encouragement. The entire coaching team is nothing short of inspiring.
The front desk staff (Fabricio, Wendy and Katie) is equally wonderful — always warm, helpful, and genuinely invested in your experience. Beyond just a place to work out, Basecamp has quickly become a space where I feel a real sense of community and connection.
If you’re on the fence, take the leap. You won’t regret it — I’m so glad I did!

Basecamp is by far the best HIIT workout in San Mateo, and I’ve tried them all! It’s efficient and effective, and working out alongside your friends and neighbors keeps you motivated. 35-45 minutes is all it takes- alternating between the bike and strength training on the floor. The coaches are knowledgeable and fun, and each one brings their own personality to class! The studio is clean and the front desk team is warm and welcoming. If you haven’t tried them yet, Get On It! You won’t be disappointed. PS- there is also a run club on Saturdays and Wednesdays for you runners out there!

I’m not sure why it has taking me so long to write this review. I’m a founding member and have been going to Basecamp San Mateo since they opened. Through the last year, I’ve gotten stronger and more fit. I’ve never been super excited to workout before but now I look forward it. It’s a plus that I also get to see my Basecamp friends. The staff and coaches are the best! They help correct your form, offer modifications and encourage you to push yourself without being annoying. It’s truly a wonderful community.

Basecamp Fitness has truly become my fitness family. Since the day I joined, the energy, the team, and the classes have been amazing—they keep me motivated and happy. Basecamp San Mateo is simply the best! I never thought I would belong to a gym again being that I like to run outdoors and have the lululemon workout mirror at home but a friend talked me in to taking a trial class and I was sold after just 1 class!
From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a friendly face and great energy! The coaches are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to assist or offer advice. Every class is engaging and motivating, making it a fun and challenging environment.
What stands out the most is the overall atmosphere. It’s welcoming and supportive, with a strong sense of community. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned athlete, you’ll feel comfortable and encouraged.

Truly a 5-star experience! The workout itself is short (35 min + 10 min ab/stretch) and great for people with short attention spans as it switches every minute. But what really makes the difference for me is the people - from the staff to the coaches to the members, you really feel welcomed and a part of something! If you’re considering checking out a class, don’t delay. I typically swim but needed a cardio and resistance component to my workout. Admittedly I can talk myself out of a swim, but I can always find time for a Basecamp workout. My endurance increased within a month and the ab portion of that workout has gotten “easier.” These workouts are fresh yet familiar simultaneously.

It's a great place to get a really good workout from the air bikes to the floor work. There's a good variety. I did the lower body class and with the extra push on the air bike I was able to get in a good sweat. I love the flexibility of the early-morning classes, I took a 5:15 AM class and had a great start to my day off. Super clean facility. I can't wait to try the equipment in the other room.

The instructors also go around and give individuals tips on form etc. also love the variety of class times! Street parking is free for 2 hours but I’d come a bit earlier in case you have to circle a few times for a spot since it’s close to other restaurants.

We LOVE Basecamp San Mateo! They offer a variety of class times and an additional space for video lead workouts in case the slots in the live coached classes are full.
The entire team is so energetic, warm and welcoming! The coaches are very encouraging and supportive!! We look forward to our classes every week!

Basecamp San Mateo has been fantastic for us - short and sweet dynamic workouts, as intense as you wish to make them. The coaches have all been great - fun to work with and positive motivators. At 5 months into Basecamp, my fitness has improved tremendously. I feel great when playing sports, going on bike rides, and taking on new physical activity challenges. The main benefits are in strength and especially endurance, and I have the data to show for it! According to my Garmin fitness watch, my endurance score has improving steadily since starting at Basecamp, hitting a streak of new PRs (see screenshot). Basecamp definitely works and I really appreciate the focus on building a "Base" of fitness to benefit your whole life.
I also appreciate how the classes mix up the exercises within an overall easy to follow format. In the process, you will learn different ways to use kettlebells, dumbells, TRX bands, medicine balls, barbells, bodyweight, Bosu balls, agility ladder, and more. The fitness instructor watches and gives tips on form as well as any modifications to help you get the most out of the workout. So you become well versed in how to use gym equipment. Plus, seeing others doing their workouts really helps with pushing through and finishing the interval, sometimes even cheering each other on, which is great! The 10 minutes of core exercises after the 35-minute HIIT can be tough, but it's worth staying through to the end. It's made my tennis and squash swings more relaxed and powerful and has helped with overall strength and stability.
I'm a huge fan of Basecamp and highly recommend their classes and trying one of their challenges. It's a great community and a lot of value packed into each 45-min session.
