It wasnβt until becoming a member at Basecamp that I felt a true sense of community and belonging in Santa Monica. A friend brought me to my first class about 2.5 years ago β the coaches, studio managers and friends in class keep me coming back every day!

Such a great community! All of the coaches are wonderful and bring their own personalities. Nick and Jason are my favorites because they always push me - even when I donβt want to push myself.
Sometimes the music / microphones can be too loud.
Overall a great place to workout at and meet new people that can become friends.

Been going here about a year now and Iβm definitely in significantly better shape/feeling really strong. I joined because i love the class format - every workout incorporates weights, cardio and stability/functional fitness so i feel like im covering all the fitness bases and i hate cardio so i get it done without thinking about it at these classes. The trainers are all great. They also have fun challenges/events. My favorite workouts are the longer/heavy weight days (110/10). Would really love to have more than one of those formats per week. Also wish they provided towels especially if we have the full/unlimited membership.

As far as HIIT classes go, it isnβt too bad a format alternating between the exercise bike and one of kettlebells, barbells, and dumbbells. The main drawback for beginners is that thereβs not enough focus on proper form and exercises go quick and fast.
A word of caution if that is you - if you are not familiar with the exercises, it is easy to injure yourself. Iβve done so twice. Since there is so little time given to an exercise, there often isnβt enough time to learn proper form, no matter how good the instructor may be. I tried to be careful by using lighter weights when unsure, but there are limited kettlebells in the lower weight range and a pretty full class so I ended up using one heavier than I wouldβve liked to and I ended up hurting my back.

Awesome experience! Piper the club manager and coach was a sweet heart! She was very concerned about my wellbeing throughout the class. Patrick the front desk guy was so nice and welcoming to my friends and I. If you are looking for a place in Santa Monica to get in shape and be part of a great community Basecamp is the place!

I normally go to more traditional gyms, and do pretty standard lifting. However by chance I walked past Basecamp Fitness and I am very glad I did. The workouts are tough, but great, and the staff there are so helpful and friendly, explaining everything clearly and making you feel like you are part of the team. I would recommend this gym for all, even if you don't normally do these types of workouts, give it a go!

I have been a member of the Santa Monica Basecamp since it opened. It is an awesome place with a great community and staff. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. The teachers and staff go above and beyond to help with anything you need.
The workout is amazing and maximizes your results in 35 minutes. Every time I leave completely sweaty and feeling great. I highly recommend this gym to anyone who wants not only a great workout but to be part of a loving and supportive community.

The people who work at the front desk are incredibly rude and hang up the phone on you

First - the studio is in impeccable condition. Extremely clean, amazing, huge showers, and everything is perfectly set up.
Second - The workouts are great. Exercises change every day, are incredibly clear to follow, and will give even a seasoned athlete a run for their money.
Third - You're just surrounded by good people and it makes all the difference. The staff, trainers, management... they're just awesome. No gimmicks and cheesy marketing ploys.

Always enjoy my workouts at Basecamp! The classes vary everyday, but they do keep it consistent with what part of the body is targeted on what days (e.g Tues leg day, Wed shoulders/arms). And the instructors are all awesome, even bright and early at 5am.
There's always plenty of street parking, early in the morning. Otherwise, there is validated parking underground.

have serious fitness goals and was doing crossfit 5 days a week for the last 5 months and was not excited with my results. 8 classes so far at BC SM and am seeing so many changes and improvements to my physique and stamina.

I've started going to this location for less than a month. What they don't tell you is that you have to come in with a knowledge and flexibility of working out.They did not make me feel like I could do the workout and they were moving so fast that you didn't get a chance to get it correctly it's worth paying more for you to actually learn and do the workout correctly and get what your body needs and dont even think you will be getting a refund for them. Don't waste your time here.

Some of the daily workouts are a little too specialized for somebody who doesn't go every day (IE a whole workout for legs is not great for somebody who goes once every 2 weeks and is just looking for a full body calories burn). Also, the class can get chaotic during transitions and make it hard to get to the next exercise in time. Overall a solid class and good atmosphere.
