“You won’t regret it!
When I started working with Basis & Nate, I was struggling with previous injuries that hadn’t properly healed—specifically my shoulder, back and foot. Nate helped me unravel years of pain and limitations that were keeping from enjoying an active life. His focused and targeted approach, combining rehabilitation with progressive strengthening exercises, gave me a platform to finally work through the years of pain caused by swimming, running and soccer. Now, I have full range of motion in joints that have been stiff and restricted for years. If you’re dealing with physical pain, go work with Nate at Basis. You won’t regret it!”

I've been working with Nate as my personal trainer at Basis Health & Performance for about a year, and it has been an incredible experience! As someone who typically loathes sweating, I can say Nate makes coming to the gym fun and inspiring. All the coaches are personable, encouraging, and incredibly knowledgeable. This combination creates a safe and welcoming environment where you feel comfortable working out, asking questions, and discussing any movement concerns. Whether you're new to fitness or a seasoned athlete, Basis Health & Performance is a fantastic place to achieve your goals. Highly recommend!

When I started I was struggling with my overall fitness and weight.
Jorden has been helping me with my fitness goals, I see him for personal training. He’s helped me calculate my macros and has set me up with a workout plan for when I’m not as Basis. I don’t think I would have made much progress without him, honesty. Even though I don’t participate in the classes at Basis, I never feel out of place and that’s pretty great.
In the future I’d ideally like to join for the regular classes however, my work schedule is rather chaotic. That being said, again Jorden has helped me navigate that too- I greatly appreciate him and I’m glad he’s part of the team at Basis. Thanks to everyone there.
Also, Shoes are optional, which is cool.

I can't imagine my life without this place.
I started at Basis after realizing I could no longer rely on my youthful metabolism. After knee and shoulder surgeries, I had gained weight and was out of shape, with joint pain and an unrealistic view of how to handle my fitness moving forward.
First and foremost, I feel like I've reclaimed my body. I've utilized everything Basis has to offer. I am lighter and stronger from strength training and have dramatically improved cardio performance from conditioning classes. My biggest improvement has been in joint mobility through kinstretch and personal training with Andre.
Having had several joint surgeries since my teens, joint mobility was my biggest limiting factor. The Basis team quickly became aware of my needs and offered modifications. Recently, dedicated personal training has improved my joint range and strength to the point where I hardly notice any limitations. It's been awesome!
With improved joint health, everything else has turned up a notch. I can push harder and wake up pain-free, ready to go again.
This is the place to be! If you're unsure where to begin your fitness journey, these guys will make it happen. If you have specific issues like joint pain, they will find a workaround to get you through it pain-free. If you have social anxiety, I highly recommend this welcoming and non-intimidating gym. It's genuinely a place for everyone to stay fit, stay healthy, and support one another. I've made many friends and gained a ton of confidence—physically, mentally, and emotionally—since joining.

I began my journey at Basis in the summer of 2023 after being diagnosed with osteoporosis. My main goal was to increase bone density through strength training. At 58, despite practicing Pilates twice a week for years, I was overweight, out of shape, and had low bone density.
Nate connected me with Noel, a trainer for two strength training sessions each week, and I eventually joined the 5 AM AZT classes. These programs helped me regain my strength and improve my overall well-being. In January, I enrolled in the Blueprint program to focus on my weight, which was a life-changing decision. With support from Nate and the Basis coaches, I developed lasting habits over the past seven months, losing 24 pounds and over 13 inches (1.5” from my arms, 5.5” from my waist, 4” from my hips, and 2.2” from my thighs). I am now working with Kristin, the nutritionist, who is teaching me how to maintain my weight loss.
My advice to you is to explore the different classes and times at Basis to find what suits you best. Ask questions, clarify your goals, and communicate them with the coaches to collaborate effectively in achieving them.

My overall body strength has improved drastically, especially my upper body. Cardio and endurance have also seen considerable improvement. I consistently crush workouts and feel strong in the gym, which has translated to my abilities as a cyclist. I now have the confidence to attack trails and feel more capable on the bike.
The trainers and facilities are amazing, and getting started is a very approachable experience. The community will keep you coming back, and it will soon become one of your favorite places to go. Get in there, champion. Just go.

Basis has helped me get my mind and body in sync. I feel this alignment in my work, daily activities, and especially at the gym. Sometimes my body can do more than my mind imagined. I feel physically stronger and more mentally focused. I'm in tune with my body's capacities and limits, and I see changes in how my clothes fit (I've lost over 10 inches), along with lower blood pressure which was a big goal when I started.
I have much more energy throughout the day. Having a loose nutrition plan has reduced my decision fatigue and anxiety around food and meal prepping. Life is simpler now that I know my goals and strive to achieve them every day, instead of guessing and hoping for results. And of course, I'm getting wayyyyy stronger, which is awesome.
If you feel lost or can't get the results you want, Basis can be your north star. We all have the capacity to help ourselves; Basis helps you refocus and recalibrate to meet your goals.

I've struggled with anxiety, body image, and hypochondria, but focusing on my health every day has truly improved my life. I noticed mental changes in just two weeks and physical changes in four. After eight weeks, I felt like my old self again—less worried, excited about working towards something, and feeling positive.
Even when other aspects of my life aren't going well, dedicating time to my health has an immediate positive impact, and everything else seems to follow.

I struggled to stay consistent in the gym, eat clean, and find the motivation to make changes- to put it simply, self care.
Basis has helped me develop a healthier mindset around my health and wellness. I've never been stronger or more physically capable, and it’s all thanks to the incredible team at Basis. I've learned that health is not about perfection but balance and consistency. Motivation alone isn't enough. Through habit tracking at Basis, I've learned a lot about myself and now have valuable tools to get back on track. The team at Basis is so supportive and positive. When I lack motivation, I remind myself, “I’ll feel so much better if I just go!”
Be prepared to have your mind blown. 🤯 These guys have a unique and highly effective approach to fitness and well-being. Come for the positive vibes and stay for the personal gains, both physically and mentally.

First and foremost, I was terrified that I was going to be asked to do something I could not do. My weight was not very helpful. I saw tires of all sizes and ropes hanging from the ceiling and laying around the ground. As excited as I was, the excitement was matched with my anxiousness. I struggled with how I could fit in, was not one intrigued enough to join a class.I suppose, through my eyes, I looked like an old, fat guy that didn't look like he was in the right place.
My outlook on physical challenges have left anxiousness behind. I have witnessed the marvelous combination of knowledge and empathy - with the use of necessary nudges. Kindness and challenges can come on the same wave. Personally, my use of a team was a breakthrough from my reticent nature of wilting when the people increased. Yes, I have conquered my knowledge of how I eat and manage the ways to do so. My confidence has mesmerized my family immensely. I absolutely love the classes, they have taught me how to vary movements and that people are just like me. My one-on-one is my lifeline. How do you put to words how I now do not come to workout but wait for the magic to begin each Thursday. Maybe, the biggest change is, when I get the other knee in November, the sky will be touchable and I will be playing golf at 85! Your knowledge and empathy will surely pave the way.
My advice to those of you considering Basis- Leave any doubt in the parking lot, speak up without hesitation, and show up.

“I hadn't been in a gym for a very long time and felt overweight, unhappy, and uncomfortable in my body. Everything changed when I joined Basis. My outlook on life is now much more positive. I love being surrounded by such an amazing and supportive community. It's the perfect balance of accepting members at every fitness level while compassionately encouraging everyone to push themselves.
I feel so much stronger in my body and find Basis to be the perfect place to clear my mind and release anxiety. Basis is the best place on earth with perfectly sized classes, amazing and supportive coaching staff, and results-driven programs. It's completely inclusive, supportive, and non-judgmental. The coaches meet everyone where they are and help set and achieve goals. They always make time for questions or advice.”

Keeping and maintaining weight loss has always been my biggest challenge. While I love showing up to class and being part of the community, the hardest part has been managing things outside the gym. This year, with Nate's help, I've focused more on my calorie balance and have a better plan in place. I'm now able to enjoy food while working towards my performance and aesthetic goals.
I want to be stronger, add lean mass, avoid the aches and pains of aging, and look good. With Basis, I've made more progress in the last six months than in the last six years. I've lost about 20 pounds and increased my strength. I can now do 10 pull-ups, up from a max of three, and my bench press is improving without causing shoulder pain, thanks to the right programming. Kinstretch and mobility work have also reduced the length of any discomfort.
I'm seeing significant quality of life improvements by working just as hard outside of Basis as in class and following the coaches' advice.

Noel Castrejon brought me to this gym. And once I walked in, everyone was very warm and welcoming. While participating in the conditioning class, a woman was kind enough to take time to help me with a workout. Going to a new gym can be intimidating, but not once did I feel that way. The encouragement by the man leading the class was great to have! Really enjoyed it overall.

Wide variety of classes and skill levels. Each class I've participated in so far has felt low pressure, but encouraging and well paced. I also love that classes are available in times that are easily attendable (before 9AM and after 5PM). I especially enjoy some of the unique movements that are part of each set. It is great to have a trainer there to assist if needed.
Overall, a seemingly tight-knit, but open-armed group of proactive individuals trying to better themselves. A great culture that we are fortunate to have in Chico, CA.

They have well rounded programming that covers it all - from strength, to conditioning, nutrition and mobility work! Training at Basis Health and Performance has truly made a huge difference in my life. I have become the healthiest version of myself through the nutrition coaching, strength training and conditioning and kinstretch/mobility. Before coming to Basis, I was training intensively 4-5 days per week for over a year and a half, and I had not lost any weight. I was definitely strong, but my blood pressure was high and I was carrying too much weight. Sarah helped teach me how to eat to maximize my strength training and also cut weight. My nutrition plan was individualized to my needs, and the weight came off so quickly. I hit a PR on my deadlift after losing 50 lbs, and I maintained my squat PR. Along with nutrition coaching, I was following a powerlifting strength program written by Leibor. He really listens to the strength goals that you present, provides the foundation and structure to meet the goals, and is always available to answer questions or encourage. One of my favorite things about Basis is the culture. Everyone is accepted, supported and given the attention that they need. Each of the coaches knows everyone by name, and they are very thoughtful and intentional about all that they do to support their clients. Basis is also the reason I fell in love with Strongman training. If you love strength training, it is a MUST! I cannot recommend this gym more. So thankful I found you, Basis! ♥️

Six months ago I was diagnosed with borderline type 2 diabetes. I met with Sarah regarding a nutrition plan to help reverse and stop the progression of insulin resistance. Sarah's knowledge and expertise have been an essential part of my weight loss and health journey. Sarah helped create a plan for me that was attainable, reasonable and easy for me to understand. I have struggled for years trying to lose weight by dieting. This time everything feels different because it is a way of eating I can see doing long term. Twelve weeks after meeting with Sarah and following the nutrition plan my fasting blood sugar and A1C were in normal range. My doctor of 15 years was truly impressed with my results of losing over 50lbs.

Basis will nurture and grow your fitness addiction. If you are brand new to working out or if you are an experienced athlete Basis has a great programming to make sure you are getting what you need each and every visit.
The coaching staff is simply amazing, Grayson, Sarah, Nate, and Leiber are all extremely passionate about what they do and perfecting their craft. The thing I enjoy most is they are never done learning, they consistently come to the gym with new ideas, stretches, movements, articles on fitness and mobility to better help their clients. Their passion for what they do shows, and its clear they love what they do and helping their clients achieve their goals.
The gym itself is newer with great equipment. They utilize heart rate monitors and a tv screen for their cardio workouts. Some days you are pushing yourself to maximum capacity, other days you are trying to finish your workout without spiking your heart rate. There is a weightlifting class to help you build/bulk up if that is what you are wanting to do, great workouts designed to grow muscles and test your strength in various ways. Basis also has a sauna and ask any of the coaches they can tell you 10 reasons why you should use the sauna and the benefits your body receives from it. One of my favorite classes is their Kinstretch it is an hour-long mobility class that can be challenging. Its test your range of motion and helps to create more of it.
Overall Basis has the best coaches that truly care about their clients with programming, new equipment and workouts that will help you achieve your goals no matter what they are. I would HIGHLY suggest giving it a shot, I promise you won't regret it.

The gym offers conditioning (high and low intensity), KinStretch (dynamic stretching, way more work than it sounds), and strength training classes, as well as nutritional classes and supported, individualized diet protocols. Pretty much All The Things.
Sarah, Grayson, Sophia, Nate, and Leibor--Basis instructors--are the exact sweet spot of expert and approachable. They are as kind as they are knowledgeable, and that's a huge big deal when there's so many feels around bodies.
Staff is quick and genius with modifications for folks who are working with injuries or issues. I've never asked a question of these folks that wasn't answered in a thorough and satisfying way--and they welcome questions; they don't make you feel like a jackass for having them.
I can't say enough good things about Basis. There's never that sense of "ugh, not only is working out hord, but it makes me feel yucky and weird to be at the gym." Got 99 problems, but my gym ain't one, because I love this place. :)

Many classes offered at flexible times with great variety. Instructors are well educated and pay attention to the details of your workout. Classes to choose from include nutrition, conditioning, strength and kinstretch/functional range conditioning. If your looking for a gym that addresses all aspects of your health, stop by for a class. FYI.....great fresh coffee and kombucha!!

Our teenage son attends this gym and not only do they help him feel comfortable with the other people in the gym they also help him feel comfortable with the equipment. He is learning a ton and absolutely loves to go not to mention he is getting an age appropriate challenging workout! The people and atmosphere is incredible.... we highly recommend!

This is the only workout place where I got real and long lasting results. Work smarter not harder.

I love this gym! The coaches are friendly and know what they’re doing. In the classes they show you how to do all the exercises, and they know how to get results and avoid injuries. It is easier to stay motivated in the group setting: misery loves company!
