Before finding BABC, I was trying to train on my own, but I felt like I was missing that motivation I used to have. And by destiny, I came across BABC… and everything changed! From the very first class, I was hooked by the energy: the coaches always motivate you, the athletes cheer you on, and from day one you feel like part of the team.
What I love the most is how patient the coaches are — they watch you, they guide you, and make sure you’re doing the movements correctly. I arrived with very little strength, but little by little I’ve been getting it back — not just strength, but also endurance, discipline, and confidence!
At BABC, you don’t just train, you grow. They help you improve your physical health, performance, and most importantly, your mindset. They always adapt to your level, support you, and push you to go further.
I truly recommend BABC. It’s not just a place to work out… it’s a community that inspires you.

I love this gym! The energy, the workouts and the people are so amazing! When I first got into Calisthenics I couldn't even do a pushup and I didn't understand any of the exercises but the coaches and everyone were so patient and helpful and encouraging.
For someone who hasn't worked out consistently in 10 years, I get up and look forward to coming here and I always leave with a smile on my face.
I've only been here 3 months and I can do 10 push-ups without stopping, Ive done my first chin up on my own and Ive even done a handstand. I can't recommend this gym enough to people. Everyone at this gym is a Rockstar and Im so happy I found this community.

Truly, you will be encouraged to reach your highest goals and grow into the person you always aspired to be. The way that the coaches and students cheer one another on, never comparing, judging or competing in an unfriendly way, truly was a new and transformative experience for me. BABC is setting the bar for how all gym cultures should be. It’s not only the culture that is excellent, but the workouts themselves. The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable, with great form, always correcting my form, and I always feel an amazing sore feeling after each class. This gym also has an entire social network that they will allow you to be a part of. If you’re looking for new friends and a kind and supportive community to be a part of, look no further. This is the place for you. From team camping trips, to Top Golf nights, to brunches, you can be a part of it all here, and sometimes it’s paid for. You can always opt out too, if that’s not your thing. They also regularly participate in Calisthenics competitions. You’ll get the chance to show off your hard work, and you don’t have to train alone. All of your teammates will be by your side supporting you. Sometimes you can even travel to new places for the competitions. They even have a weekend running club. At BABC, be prepared to be able to do more pull ups than ever before, handstands, and so much more! This is more than a gym. It’s a community. I have tried just about every diet ang gym or work out regime known to man. This gym is in a league of its own. The community is unmatched. You will feel a part of this community from the time you walk in regardless of where you are in your fitness journey. My son started going with me at age 15 and advanced quickly. I started later in life and not nearly as fit, the workout is challenging but doable no matter where you are fitness wise!

Bay Area Bar Calisthenics has been an absolute game-changer for my fitness journey. From just a couple of trial classes, it's clear that this gym stands out from others. The coaches are attentive to each student's fitness level and adjust the workouts accordingly, ensuring they're always challenging. BABC Changed My Life at 43—Now 50 & Stronger Than Ever!
I joined BABC in 2018 as a Calisthenics newbie and never looked back. As one of the first women in the group, I was unsure at first—but Coach Carlos’ passion, patience, and inclusive approach made me fall in love with the sport. His belief in Calisthenics’ physical and mental benefits inspired me to bring my whole family into this amazing community.
When the pandemic hit, Coach Carlos kept us connected with daily online classes, helping us stay sane and strong. My husband, kids, and even my niece joined, turning Calisthenics into our family bonding time. Post-pandemic, we grew even closer—competing, pushing limits, and cheering each other on.
At 50, I’m in the best shape of my life, have competed (even placing 3rd!), and now judge competitions alongside my family. If you think you’re too old, inexperienced, or unsure—come try BABC. This isn’t just a gym; it’s a family that works hard, plays hard, and lifts each other up!

I joined this gym in Jan 2025.
Little did I know this gym is unlike any other gyms I have seen elsewhere. This gym is a community in itself.
As a beginner in Calisthenics, and fitness in general, I was glad the group classes were designed for all levels. You will find people from all age levels, different points in their fitness journey, from different backgrounds all coming together and sweating it out.
The coaches take the time to understand your goals and motivation and truly help you reach them. They go over each movement in the class, and correct your form if you are doing it incorrectly, meeting you where you are at in your journey.
Having been a regular for the past 6 months, I am confident that if you frequent this gym, you will be well on your way to not only reach your goals but surpass them. In addition to your goals, you will find a community that supports you and wants you to get better.
I am more than grateful to have found this gym and community, and I would, without a second thought recommend this gym to anyone who is even remotely interested in fitness and becoming the best version of themselves.

This review long overdue! This is an awesome gym with a great community! I was a true beginner in working out in general. I didn’t like the typical gyms with machines, NOT a person into fitness at all until I came across this gym. This has been my escape from regular day to day life and work until it became part of my daily routine now. I’ve been consistently attending their classes for a little over a year and have seen so many positive changes with myself since I started that includes getting stronger, faster, better mobility, general mental well being also!
Classes: Great for beginners to seasoned vets in calisthenics. They have different levels of instructions that cater to your skill level. Every day is a little different with new challenges and we work on different muscle groups in every class. Classes vary which includes pull ups, push ups, dips, plenty of squats, burpees, rings, handstands, muscle-ups, chin ups, etc. All of the coaches are energetic and give good instructions on what we will do. They constantly go around checking your form making sure you’re doing it correctly which is great for me since I was a complete newb and is still learning new movements today!
Community: You’ll meet one of the most supportive, high energy and friendly group of people here. Everyone is here to work out and help each other grow. We also hang out, join competitions for fun and we’re always cheering and pushing each other to do well. Definitely no “gym bro” or high ego vibes here. We’re all here to exercise and be the better versions of ourselves!

I've been going to Bay Area Bars Calisthenics (BABC) for 7 months now and unlike other gyms/fitness classes, I actually feel like I'm making and seeing progress in my strength training. My upper body has gotten stronger from the pull up/chin up classes where I've progressed to using lighter bands. As a runner, leg strength is super important and I've found my IT band get stronger since going to the Tuesday night leg strength classes.
I've never done calisthenics before let alone attempted a pull up, but the community here is amazing - super supportive and encouraging of any person at any level. At other gyms, I for sure would not have had the confidence to know what to do, but the folks here are just one of a kind and super welcoming... I never once felt out of place and the coaches are there to help you. Coaches Carlos and Jose have checked on my form and how I'm doing during class way more often than the coaches at other gyms (i.e. OTF).

I can’t say enough good things about this community. OMG! I highly recommend this magical gem! The coaches are fully present & attentive. Meaning they actually pay attn to everyone and correct when needed, push/challenge when needed & best of all cheer you on!
Then there's the actual student community; everybody has a great attitude. Students help motivate you if you're struggling & of course cheer you on. Makes you feel like you know everybody forever. You come out of class feeling accomplished & proud.
This place is such a gem that I come from East San Jose to catch a class whenever I can!

UPDATE: I have met a small handful of visionaries over the course of my life, people who have high standards, build community, and elevate everyone around them. The coaches at BABC are visionaries and have built a remarkable family of like-minded folks. At BABC, when I bring what I came to get, magic happens. I originally came to BABC in the final months of training for a 70.3, having no idea what calisthenics was. Joining w zero upper body strength, I got my first unassisted pull up in less than four months. DEXA scans also don't lie - lean muscle gains do not happen with only cardio/endurance training. At BABC, strangers are simply unmet cheerleaders who spark inspiration and push the boundaries of possibility.

Day 1: Joined for a Monday pullups session as a first timer and wow, love the hustle and community! Coach Carlos really knows where everyone is at with their fitness journey and kept a close eye on us new kids. Appreciate the partner setup (partly to catch a break once in awhile) and SUPER efficient workout that started and ended on time. Looking forward to next time :)

I joined a booty pump class through ClassPass for the first time and it was so much fun! I’ve been going every week ever since. The instructors/coaches make sure that you are pushing yourself but maintaining the correct form, love the friendly environment.

My fiancée would come home hyped about the workouts she would have. She kept telling me to give it a try because she felt the environment would suit my personality. Environment filled with encouragement, a good pump, and most importantly, trainers that know their ish! I'd been trying for years to master a muscle-up and a handstand using YouTube tutorials and a couple of subscription apps. Nothing really worked until I started personal training with Coach Carlos from Bay Area Bars a couple of months ago. I'm not quite there yet, but Carlos is pushing me to get stronger, more flexible, and more confident. I joined a Friendly Saturday class in October 2024 after a friend kept inviting me for weeks, and since then, I've been going 3-4 times a week. After my first class, I realized there were new goals to chase, and I haven’t looked back since!
The workout is a full-body routine with a focus on upper-body strength—think pull-ups, push-ups, and dips. The hour flies by because the workout is tough but fun, especially with the energy from the class.
Here’s the setup: we start with a stretch and warm-up, followed by several sets of prescribed workouts broken into levels by the coach. Partnering up is a regular thing, and it’s an awesome way to meet new people, challenge yourself, and sometimes take a breather between sets. The workouts are written on the whiteboard, so you’ll always know exactly what you’re doing.
The vibe is incredible. Whether you’re a newbie or a longtime member, everyone is supportive and friendly, no matter your level. There’s a level for everyone. I started doing pull-ups with heavier bands, and now I’m using lighter ones because I’ve progressed. I also started going to the rings class, and on my first day, I couldn’t hold a position without the coach helping me. Four classes later, I’m holding it all on my own!
I always leave class feeling accomplished. The energy and camaraderie here are unmatched. Even the coach makes a point to walk around, high-five everyone, and check in. You’ll feel welcome from day one. When I first arrived, I couldn’t find the gym, and a classmate walked me there—we’ve been buddies since. That same day, I met another classmate and his wife, who made me feel at home immediately. I’ve been to the fancy gyms, but honestly, I’ve never connected with people the way I do here.
Give BABC a try—maybe even two, if you’re having an off day. I promise you’ll walk out feeling like you’ve unlocked a goal you didn’t even know you had.
Bonus points: They also host a run club on Sundays, welcoming all paces with the same supportive energy as inside the gym. I've seen the transformation from "I can't run" to "I just did that!" Running is my first love, so witnessing everyone's progress on their running journey is truly magical.

I’ve been to a handful of classes over the last few months and have really enjoyed Bay Area Bars Calisthenics (BABC). The workouts are great, the people are genuinely friendly and helpful, and the class sizes are just the right size for the coaches to still keep an eye on your form and give you tips. I’ve taken classes with Jeny, Carlos, and Jose and I’ve enjoyed all of them. The gym feels like a great, supportive community and I would come more often if I didn’t live 30 minutes away!

My son is a personal trainer and participates in Bay Area Calisthenics events this is how I found out about this awesome crew that can help you achieve your goals of not only fitness but as a community of trainers that participate hands on with their students that make you feel at home.A diverse community of students from all backgrounds.A place to train and excel fitness wise as well as mentally.When I cannot train physically at their gym I easily watch their techniques and guidance through their social media account that help me improve my workout when I am not able to make it to the gym but being at the gym where they train at is undoubtedly the best as with hands on training a community of others that share the same desire of fitness goals trainers that do not make you feel less than but encourage your growth is what a good gym provides and this one right here is one of them!Five stars!

Love the people and the workouts! They keep classes small to make coaching effective and can tailor the workout to your level. Beginner friendly environment can definitely help take you from never having done a pull-up to 1 and more, and if you are a seasoned practitioner can definitely push you to new levels.
