My two boys and I all take classes here. We LOVE it.
They have a fantastic relationship with the children, allowing them to be kids while at the same time teaching them discipline.
The kids are learning karate, gaining confidence, and improving their physical fitness.
I think our experience can best be summed up by what my 7 year old said when he found out classes were only Monday and Wednesday for his skill level:
"But I want to go to Karate EVERYDAY!!!"

The name says it all! Bay Area's Best! Sensei Darryl knows how to tailor to each kids strength and weakness to best teach. He has the right balance to build confidence and humble his pupils including my special needs kid. It's been an amazing journey and I can't wait to see how far it goes.

Bay Area's Best offers it all - community, support, and inclusivity as one learns the art of this form of Karate. The dojo is family run, with an incredible Sensei that instills confidence, a love for learning, and respect. Our daughter practiced karate since she was 5 years old and has learned a tremendous amount about herself and her capabilities. We highly recommend this dojo - they teach more than just karate. Our daughter thrives in other areas of life after training in this discipline with Sensei. We love Bay Area's Best!

Purple belt here. Nice, encouraging teachers, good-natured students and effective teaching methods. Classes have been cancelled with little notice, check the schedule often.

Bay Areas Best (BAB) is awesome! My kids not only flourished in their karate skills, but gained confidence and learned resilience. My kids started BAB at age 4 and continued to grow for almost 7 years. In addition, my husband joined as well, to reinforce the importance of Mitose Kosho Ryu’s teaching and skills within our family.
The kids learned fundamentals and how to fall, get back up and never give up. Throughout Covid, Sensei continued to teach through zoom. The passion Sensei Darryl and Senpai Kyoko as well as all the black belt teachers from the past care so much for this craft and it shows.
We are grateful for the teaching of Mitose’s Kosho Ryu through Bay Area’s Best. If you are interested in learning Kosho Ryu, run here! You’ll love the community. Bay Areas Best will always be our home!

Our 11 year old has spent the last 2.5 years with Sensei Darryl and his team of instructors. They are a great balance kind and funny but also hold the kids to a very high standard. He expects the kids to put in effort. He has been such a great positive male role model and the impact is profound. Our kid has learned to work hard for stripes, have self discipline and value that strength and flexibility are equal forces.
I personally love how all the kids encourage and celebrate each other. I’m so thankful we found this place .

Bay Areas Best Karate is my favorite; it’s very fun and everyone there is kind. But sensei also makes sure we keep working hard, sometime after class my legs are shaking from using my muscles. When I’m at the Dojo I feel like everyone there is my family!

Both my Son and Daughter love going to class with Daryl and his daughters. The group of kids that attend his classes are also wonderful. My kids are busy playing club sports but never want to miss Karate. Daryl is a great Sensei. My daughter says that he is kind, funny and really knows Karate

We love this karate studio! The atmosphere is incredibly supportive, striking the perfect balance of fun, martial art philosophy, and fitness. The instructors are talented and encouraging. My 13yr old goes as often as he can to be amidst the positive community. I highly recommend.

We have always been grateful for the experience that our son had at this karate studio. In a time when there is a lack of healthy male role models in sports and athletics, we were so pleased with our son’s experience. His instructor worked with him patiently and kindly as a beginner to the practice. There is a palpable commitment to the art, to healthy competition and to safety. We could not recommend this karate studio more highly. Over time Patrick not only learned the art, but he learned respect, tenacity and discipline. He gained strength and flexibility, and, we believe very strongly that it helped shape him into the athlete he is today.

Bay Area’s Best is exceptional! Sensei Darryl’s genuine love for what he does shines through in his teaching style. My kids have been with Bay Area’s Best since 2016 and we've not only found a skilled instructor but also someone passionate about imparting martial arts knowledge. They’ve become our extended family, and I wholeheartedly recommend this dojo to anyone seeking a positive and enthusiastic environment.

Amazing school teaching so much more than just traditional karate! Instruction is done thoughtfully and deliberately with patience and respect. It really does feel like a family at the dojo and you can't get a better teacher than Sensei Darryl. My daughter has been with them for 10 years and still looks forward to going each week. She proudly earned her Black Belt here! We cannot recommend this place enough!!!!!

My sons have been going to Bay Area's Best for a year now. They started in the "Under 7 years old class" and are now in the "7 and older class". They recently got to experience their first tournament and look forward to participating in future tournaments. Angelo & Abby enjoy learning from Sensei Darryl and Sensei Kyoko as well as the other mentors Aiko, Eric and Sissy. This community helps build self esteem, team work, self defense, self discipline and emphasizes that nothing is even given, it is earned. I am proud of the Karate team my children are a part of.

Bay Area's Best Kosho Ryu Kenpo Karate is a great school. Our son has been learning from Sensei Darryl and Sensei Kyoko for 2 years. They have the perfect balance of fun, discipline, and "strictness" but appropriately tailored for the various age groups. The kids all love Darryl! We wish we had started earlier with Darryl and Kyoko. It has been a wonderful experience for us and we would highly recommend Bay Area's Best Kosho Ryu Kenpo Karate!

Bay Area's Best Kosho Ryu Kenpo Karate is awesome! I have found it very helpful for my son to increase mental awareness and foster calmness, independence, serenity and confidence. It has also helped my son (who is on the spectrum) with coordination, strength, and body awareness. Sensi Darryl is very patient, and creates an inclusive environment for kids to learn.

We have been with Kosho Ryu for 8 years. Shihan Darryl and his daughter Kyoko have created a welcoming environment. Our boys developed strength and confidence as they learned to defend themselves using the techniques developed at Kosho Ryu Kempo karate. Darryl and Kyoko have a wonderful way with the kids. They are very patient and while they train hard, they make the classes fun.

A few years back I was looking for adult martial art classes but couldn’t find a teacher who is patient and has great teaching skills since I‘ve never taken classes. Finding The Bay Area Kenpo was like finding a hidden germ. What a fantastic teacher (Sensei Darryl), he is so knowledgeable & patient and explains everything in great detail. I couldn’t be happier finding this school & teacher & whenever I walk in the dojo it feels like being part of a family. Highly recommend Bay Area‘s Best!

Our son had a great experience with Darryl and his family of instructors. It was the right amount of working with kids on their level, but tempering it with a martial arts discipline. Our son is more confident now from the experience. Darryl is also just a fun guy. Highly recommend the studio.

If you are looking for Quality, you will find it here. Unlike other schools I have observed, this school teaches self defense tactics that are actually worthy of keeping safety as its top priority. It’s not just about winning tournaments and getting awards, but more about gaining and grasping the lessons as their own reward. It’s not just about the different techniques on how to throw a jab, a punch or landing a kick. It’s balance, timing, and even reasoning. There is no comparison to what you see on tv. The students can definitely magnify what’s being taught to them, and they enjoy learning and also having fun.

Years ago, I've heard many positive things about the Bay Area's Best Kosho Ryu Kenpo thru friends and family. And I wanted to have my two young kids (11yr, 8yr) attend with the hope that they gain confidence and self defense. Over the course of a couple of years, I've noticed their confidence and perseverance had leveled up, they learned a lot about the history and culture of Kosho Ryu, and gained friendships with other students along the way!
We are truly grateful 🙏🏼 and highly recommend giving them a try.

Love Bay Area’s Best Kosho Ryu Kenpo Dojo!!! My spouse and I have come here many years and Sensei is a wonderful teacher and trainer. I not only learned a lot about my strength and techniques, I also learned about my culture and made really close friendships. The self defense techniques are very helpful and made me feel more powerful and equip. I truly appreciate the community this dojo has provided and how Sensei makes you feel like pet of the family!
