Found this place through classpass and did a trial class. It was pretty great. Instructor was top notch and explained things well, even to a beginner like me. Definitely got a good workout in. Might go back for another class at some point and try it again.

Highly recommend.

I’ve been a member for a few months and I’m so happy to have found Bay Breakers! Each instructor has a little bit of a different teaching style, which means you’ll get something fresh from each class you take. It’s always a little nerve-racking to try something new, but they’re so welcoming those nerves don’t last long. Although martial arts in general are very male dominated there have always been several women kicking ass in my class or doing more advanced training, and that really rocks.

This place is amazing!! Huge open space, excellent instructors, super convenient to multiple neighborhoods and bus rides. I’d never picked up boxing gloves in my life and left the intro class with a surprising amount of instruction under my belt! Highly recommend to anyone curious about a new workout!

This has been my first time boxing and I love each class more than the last. I’ve taken classes with each of the different instructions over the past 2 months at Bay Breakers, and everyone is so nice and will help you according to your skill level. Besides a great workout, you always get individualized attention and correction.

The classes are small (under 10 people), and I feel comfortable and safe as a woman in the environment Dan and Abbe have created.

Thank y’all!!! :)

I recently attended my first boxing class at this location and found it a lot of fun. The workout provided a good amount of cardio, and I was surprised by how much it engaged my quads, legs, and core. I enjoyed both the gym and the instructor. Additionally, the gym is in a nice part of the city and conveniently close to public transportation. I hope to attend their classes more frequently.

I was excited to see that another boxing gym has opened in SF and is available on ClassPass, which makes it easy to drop in and try out a class if you have a CP membership (if not, no worries, Bay Breakers regularly has its own trials and specials!). I have been to Bay Breakers a few times already and have had a great experience each time.

Beginner class: I love that they offer free glove rentals for the beginner classes, which is perfect if you're just starting out and don't know yet if you want to commit to purchasing your own gloves/equipment. In Daniel's classes, he always starts with a jump rope warmup (a great workout on its own IMO, even though it's only for a few minutes) and walks the class through the numbered punches before working on some combos together. I have taken some other boxing classes around SF which tend to be more fitness-oriented (like Rumble?), and this class was a bit different since it was more focused on stance and technique, which I really appreciated to help build familiarity and confidence.

Gym: My understanding is the gym is still getting up and running, so some of the areas are still unfinished (e.g., one of the restrooms). That being said, the main gym/workout areas are all good to go (as far as I can tell). There are cubbies at the back of the gym which feel safe since they're far away from the main door on Van Ness, curtained off changing areas, restrooms, showers, etc.

Location: It's on Van Ness which is relatively easy to get to. There's a MUNI bus stop right outside, and a few other routes around the nearby intersections.

With my current schedule, I'm unable to come to Bay Breakers as often as I'd prefer, but I always enjoy the experience here and look forward to coming more often in the future hopefully.

It's a great little community they're building here! The regulars are friendly, and everyone's looking to learn collaboratively while getting a workout in. Ernie is a stellar instructor, and breaks down boxing so it's digestible while never sacrificing the small details and technique. I'd be here daily if I lived in the neighborhood!

Shout out to Nat and the staff. It's always a delight to feel welcomed into the gym.

This gym is amazing! I wanted to find a gym where I could learn the basics of boxing and have had trouble with coaches that sped through the basics and or were impatient with my lack of progress; here I worked with Daniel and Abbe and they took their time to explain the importance of each strike and where I should be mustering power from in my body. It feels great to have a gym where I can feel comfortable in learning at my own pace with undivided support.

I’ve been to a few boxing gyms and Bay Breakers is my favorite. In 2 weeks here I think I improved more than a month boot camp I did because the coaches give a lot more personal feedback.

Ernie’s classes are great he focuses a lot on footwork, movement, distance control, and technique. I learned how to find my range and how important it is to get into position to do combos.

Dan’s classes are also a lot of fun. They are more intense and more conditioning, but he also teaches a lot of movement, combos, and technique. He emphasizes correct technique and helped me correct a lot of my bad habits, especially in my left hook.

Definitely recommend Bay Breakers for anyone wanting to learn how to box or improve their skills

Bay Breakers Gym is a great place to learn and improve your boxing skills. I’ve gone to a dozen or so classes and have really enjoyed the experience.

Ernie’s classes are amazing and have really pushed my skills to the next level. He’s the type of instructor who will make you take the time to master a combo and won’t let you move until you get it perfect. My footwork and flow as a boxer have improved dramatically under his guidance.

Dan is a phenomenal instructor as well. His classes are a real workout and have pushed my conditioning to the next level, without sacrificing form. He also has a super positive attitude that makes the hard work and challenge fun.

I haven’t had the chance to work with the other instructors yet but look forward to it in the future. I definitely recommend Bay Breakers to anyone looking to try out the sport or to push their skills to the next level.

Took a beginner boxing class here with Andy and I feel like I learned more about boxing in 1 hour than I have from 5+ classes at rumble or rowdy. Andy gave personalized attention and advice to each of us on our form and technique while still being super fun and friendly. For anyone that actually wants to improve their boxing form I can’t recommend this place enough!!

Bonus: they also have a gym, treadmills and showers if you want to get a full workout all at one spot.

I have been a member of this gym for almost 2 months now and I could not be more satisfied. I love the look of the gym and the owners are just the greatest. I have been slowly getting myself into a routine, as I have not been in a boxing gym for over 8 years now. Having been out of shape, Daniel convinced me to take a beginner class and it was totally worth it. I can't wait to go back! Thank you to the Bay Breakers Boxing team for this wonderful opportunity. I don't know that I would have ever stepped into a boxing gym again without you being so supportive.
