Great club has all the amenities you expect in a club like this from tennis courts to pick a ball weight training and more classes than you can shake a stick at. You should definitely check it out

Kind of outdated and overpriced for a gym. My friend even tried to tour it, but he called to tell me he couldn’t which was a bummer. I
Know of some other gyms that would let you tour on the spot.

Ok, here’s the rub based on my personal experiences, observations and views.
Price: When I joined, for main member $300 per month plus nonrefundable $300 deposit for basic membership, around $100 for every additional adult and around $89 per child irrespective of age. No flexibility on pausing membership (I heard people on the phone saying they are taking long vacation or illness…no flexibility whatsoever). Extra if you want to use tennis courts. Extra still if you want to use golf at Fairbanks. Not worth it if you cannot go 2-3x per week religiously. Also, see facilities below for more detail. Only when I went to cancel membership I was told they were actually going to increase the membership price to $320 per month next month. Otherwise would have been a surprise bill. Another time there was an open day, brought my family to be told it was cancelled. The online registration was not clear and there is no newsletter or email to indicate events are cancelled. I guess transparency is not a thing here. To their credit, they gave family complimentary pass for the day.
Facilities:
Good parking space, although not terribly reassuring to see signs that if you get carjacked or robbed, not their responsibility!
Restaurant ok for quick grub, breakfast nice (but make it yourself for $4). Free coffee until 11 am, but no coffee anywhere any other time!
Business suite room useful a couple of times. Common business area ok, except someone loudly decides to take call yet is less happy when you counter loudly play Beyonce. C’mon people, please tell me you weren’t dragged up!
Childcare very limited availability even ahead of time and cancellation fees.
Outdoor pickle ball courts have cracks all over and some very territorial individuals and/or some really low class garbage behavior all obviously not happy in their lives. Guessing they were raised by wild boars.
Changing rooms are nice with sauna/steam room and shaving foam provided, but I prefer not to live there. Especially as the carpets can get smelly sometimes. The small couch and TV are nice touches.
There is a games room with old school arcades, pool and ping pong, but mostly kids use.
Gym and classes are nothing special.
Pool nothing special. Hot tub is nice, but if you really love, install at home and don’t have to share with strangers even with the chlorine! Also, not fun being forced to listen to strong political views aired very loudly (I had to wrap towel around my head so I couldn’t hear it in the end!).
Tennis courts good, but if you love tennis there are better clubs with better courts.
Fairbanks: no one picks up phone and therefore impossible to get bookings. Even then site is nothing special.
People:
This was the hardest part for me to leave. Overall, staff are very nice and helpful. The members overall seem like they are from educated and high level professional backgrounds. Consistent with this, you can see the greater diversity at this club of people from all over the world, including East and South Asia. THIS network is the club’s MAIN asset by far. I am also lucky to have access to a world class network, including the pioneers in their field on speed dial from my industry and Ivy League alumni social clubs. Having said that I believe I have exchanged details with the people who seem most interesting at this club, common ground and industries of interest.
Having said that a Hispanic club member physically threatened me with violence in car park. When I complained about it, staff were dismissive.
In the end above reasons and not getting enough free time to use limited facilities for extortionate price was enough in end for me to quit. Still I don’t regret, x100 better than YMCA in terms of staff and people in my opinion. I might have stayed if membership closer to $200 pcm; charge the tennis and especially golf members more, they are mostly retired anyway, the rest of us don’t need to subsidize them! Plus you don’t need all those towels everywhere etc., an example of an unnecessary cash burn without much added experiential benefit in terms of ROI.

Location is good. Staff is good. Food is good. It’s a bad gym compared to any decent luxe gym. But better than anything nearby. Keeping this review focused on fixable things.
Equipments old. Embarrassingly so for an $800 a month membership.
Hours are unpredictable and short for the price
Renovations keep addressing non-issues. More of the popular equipment needed (only 1 seated leg press and 2 bench presses and 1 usable pec fly machine—no one likes the elbow pad one as anyone who’s been to this gym frequently would know—but massive real estate devoted to things rarely used). Change out one of the six hammer machines in the back for another bench. Swap one of the four squat racks (which are never all occupied during peak hours because the demographic leans super old) for another seated leg press (almost always in use)
There could definitely be more good equipment at the weird reception desk (one inside weight area) that I’ve literally never seen anyone at other than to clean
in 2 years. Huge waste of space.
10 Row machines all of which are rarely used. It’s just a really inefficient use of space all around. Like there’s 10 row machines but no crunch/ab machine upstairs?
Recently stayed at a hotel with a better gym than this (using less space).
Outdoor weights almost always have bird feces on them but that area is otherwise a nice feature. A bench out there would be nice.

This place is such a scam! I enrolled two of my kids for a one week summer camp, almost $1000 including the membership
Fee, camp fee and then you are also charged for the following month. After the first day of camp my girls said the place made them nauseous as the main room has no windows, was stuffy and my older daughter didn’t receive any lunch as they said they had run out for the big kids. The camp itself was pathetic, we tried to cancel, after the first day but not only did we not get any refund but we were still charged for the following month as they require a month notification for cancelling. This is literally 24 hours after the initial join. Major scam, camp was aweful and food was included only if there was enough (Mac and cheese).

Pickleball rules this gym. If you plan on bringing your kids for basketball change your plans as they will kick you out and reserve the court for pickleball several times a week. Even in the summer they can reserve the whole gym for 3 or 4 people. All this even though there are several pickleball courts outside available all day. They “pickle ballers” are also rude and typically try to bully young kids. The club is kept clean and staff is generally very nice but the fees do not match the amenities.

This gym is a beautiful and I like the big complex. I enjoyed the extra amenities. The gym equipment is rather dated and the gym was under construction when I was there but no discount was offered on the gym membership. The hours were limiting so no night work outs on weekends. One day when I was doing stretches in the stretching area and old man who is sitting at 3 ft across from me started taking photos of me while I was stretching with the flash on his phone. It made me really uncomfortable. This combination of things made me cancel my gym membership.

Awful and rude management. My husband was denied access to the club even though we are current members and have been members for over ten years because he "doesn't have the app installed on his phone". When we asked to talk to management, we received no apologies for this behavior, were treated rudely and were told that my husband needs to know how to spell his last name correctly - I guess you can graduate from Harvard but still not know how to spell your last name. We cancelled our membership right after this incident. Extremely disappointed.

In order for me to stay physically active I am one of those people who needs a personal trainer to make my priority of being in good shape come to fruition. I have worked with several excellent personal trainers over the last 4 decades and believe that each one of them has helped me.
With that being said, no one has been as attentive and to be fully able to “meet me just where I am at”, who has the knowledge to work around my injuries and limitations, and to make working out thoroughly enjoyable and productive for me as Alice Maples does at the Bay Club in Carmel Valley.
My goal over the last 4 decades has grown from not just trying to look good, but to realizing how imperative it is to give your body the stretches, movements and knowledge that a personal trainer gives you to have a better shot at maintaining a healthy life style.
Of course it helps that Alice is funny, intelligent, and resourceful with her cadre of exercises and savvy to personalize my needs. I strongly believe she could personalize a workout schedule, as well for any client.
I can’t say enough positives about this most capable trainer. Try her out. Sessions with her will be one of the best gifts you give yourself.

The 11am Sat dance class is the best! Bolly Dance! So fun and lively! The Wed 12pm dance class is also amazing with the lights off and disco ball. So fun! Wish it was possible to drop in to a class for around $30 instead of $50. Gym equipment is outdated but the vastness of the entire complex make up for it. Wish the basketball court schedule was online because sometime the pickle ball people play where the basketball court is for a large chunk of time so it's hard to get to play if you don't know the schedule. Wall yoga is really nice. Also wish the cafe sold espresso drinks. Would love to have an iced latte after my workout around noon but they only have coffee up until 11:00 a.m. but it is free so you have to work out really early if you want to enjoy the coffee but I wouldn't mind paying for a coffee if they had a espresso machine so I could go there workout and then have a coffee so I can go to work super energized.
I think as well since it is like a community center it would be nice if they had community events like meet and greets or dinners or appetizers or just social hours so that way everyone could have a chance to meet each other because you start to recognize people because you go all the time but it would be nice to have an event to break the ice and make some workout friends to help keep you motivated and so you would have a gym buddy! Because my friends didn't want to pay the price to join so I didn't have a gym buddy so I cancelled my membership.

We had a worse experience when considering to join the club. Camille, membership director had promised us to an offering (waived dues etc) and since we didn’t sign immediately, 48 hours later the deal was off the table….although I shared with club representative that I would not be able to view the contract immediately. I felt rushed and pressured to sign a contract without being able to take my time to read it through. This is not how prospective members should be treated! I would not refer any of my friends or clients to this club.

I’ve been a member on and off for 12 years. While I appreciate the efforts they are putting into revamping and renovating the gym area, which drastically needed it, the equipment is still old and neglected. But even worse, the locker rooms are still and always been very disgusting. In the past they were unkept a bit better but I feel like lately, after Covid, it’s just been falling down hill. The towels are crusty and have probably been in service for 10+ years. The floors are filthy my feet turn black when walking on them. The actual bathroom sinks toilets etc are just old and in dire need of renovation. Locker room always smells really musty, especially the sauna and steam rooms. Compare this to another luxury club nearby, Life Time, who has their locker room on point. Floors cleaned 3+ time a day, new and constantly cleaned sinks and toilets. Actually feels good to use them. And the sauna and steam room are regularly cleaned and smell like eucalyptus mint. At the BC, The showers might be one of the worst parts. They look the exact same as when I joined- extremely filthy. And do not bother using their shampoo conditioner or body wash. It’s all trash. They experimented using another brand and it was actually GOOD until they stopped bringing it. Again compare this to Life time which uses actual luxury bath amenities. You just don’t feel like a million bucks walking out of this place, a feeling you might expect when paying $400 a person a month. I paid less at lifetime and always leave feeling super clean and recovered. Hope this information helps you decide before paying the steep prices…
Side note to the representative who’s to reply to this review: Don’t. I expressed all my concerns. Please find a way to improve. Or expect less members.

Are you kidding me? The prices in this club are so expensive. I don’t even know how they do it. The people that comes here are nasty and the people upfront. They don’t even let you go to the restroom. You’re there for business and they don’t let you go to the restroom because they follow you and they wait for you until you finish in the bar restroom. They take your time and they said well you went too much time in the restroom I’ve been waiting for you. We signed our son up for a day camp to try out the club and see if it was worth joining. The staff was remarkably, surprisingly, infuriatingly unhelpful. We apparently need a PIN to sign our son in and out. We had no idea. We just showed up, but the staff refused to check my son in without the PIN. The staff 1) refused to help my wife find the PIN, 2) indicated they had no phone on the premises and could not call me to find it, 3) refused to use my wife's cell phone to speak with me to find it, and 4) refused to look up our receipt in their system. All the while, the staff was enormously rude and frustrated with US about our inability to navigate THEIR system to find a PIN we didn't know existed. Look, I get it. We didn't know how their system worked. Maybe we aren't as smart as the rest of their members. But this is a posh, exclusive, and luxurious club. Customer service is THE VERY REASON you pay a premium for something like this, so the CONTEMPT the staff has for customers is surprising, to say the least. One star.

I'm now a disgruntled, soon to be former member. I joined the Bay Club originally in San Francisco where I felt like I was getting good value and liked having access to multiple bay area clubs in one membership. I moved to San Diego 2.5 years ago and paid the same membership fee for access to this single club and didn't even get the option to visit other clubs in California when traveling, so that was strike 1. Strike 2 - prices have gone up almost a third in this time but no discernible improvements in some of the key features I use at the club (changing rooms and showers need a desperate overhaul but it feels like I'm just subsidizing the construction of new pickleball courts!). Strike 3 - the huge summer camps make this club almost unusable and totally unenjoyable for large parts of the day for 2 months out of the year. So while this is a nice location and the personal trainers have always been great, I'm going to leave and make do with public pools. Might still be worth joining for families but as a single member you get screwed over.

I'm not one to usually write bad reviews unless the experience warrants one. Sadly I didn't think I would write one for the Bay Club.
We joined with enthusiasm and used this facility for our whole family - classes for my husband and I, swimming for my son and I and we were always interested in the events they hosted. But sadly we started getting hit or miss service and inconsistent communication. Some staff has been wonderful, some seem irritated anytime you ask simple questions and honestly didn't even look up when checking in. While we don't have expectations of being best friends, customer service is still something that we value with ANY business.
The issue we have had the past several months was around communications and being told one thing by multiple people, then finding out it was not true. As well as advertising for events and then not delivering what was advertised.
The club is nice, especially if you're a fan of tennis, swimming or squash. Classes are great, but nothing more then I've experienced at Equinox, Club Pilates or Class Pass in honesty.
But the inconsistent and false communications are very disappointing especially considering the cost members pay and the caliber the business integrity it advertises.
Not to mention family and friends who we share experiences with there, have paused or cancelled their memberships for similar reasons.
While costs keep rising (which isn't an issue for us) the quality and experience is not rising along side them (this is the issue).
You'd think after decades of business experience, customers would be top of mind. For us, that has not been the case.
Sadly, they are losing a family that would have stayed for years if they simply prioritized business integrity and customer experiences.

This is an incredible facility (indoor/outdoor) but the staff are what sets it apart. I really appreciate the social offerings like a book club (!) facilitated by one of the personal trainers/yoga instructors, Melanie Bourassa (she’s awesome). The Club recognizes that health is about more than just burning calories and provides many opportunities to connect with fellow members (books for me, pickleball for my hubs). There are a lot of great clubs where you can work out but for me, the social aspects here are a value add.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at this club. It seemed like they only cared about their elite members, even though the regular membership costs around $1000 a month. The general manager was incredibly rude and showed no interest in addressing any concerns. When I approached him once, he treated me as if he couldn't care less about any issues with the club. To make matters worse, the elite members constantly monopolize the Tennis and Pickleball courts, leaving little opportunity for others to enjoy them. I strongly believe that both the staff and the general manager are fully aware of these problems but choose to overlook them in order to cater to the elite members. It's truly disappointing that the staff prioritizes the elite to such an extent that as a regular member, you feel like a second-class citizen.

I have been a member of the Bay Club Carmel Valley for many years. Ever since Covid, everything has changed with this once wonderful vibrant place. In the last 6 months, they increased the membership twice while giving absolutely nothing in return. Most members would agree that visiting Bay Club Carmel Valley is thoroughly disappointing. This supposed "luxury" club fails to live up to its reputation, and I regret wasting my time and money on such a lackluster experience.
First and foremost, the facilities are far from impressive. The gym, which is often touted as a major selling point, is always overcrowded and poorly maintained. The equipment is outdated and in desperate need of repair. It's evident that the management does not invest in the upkeep of their facilities, despite charging exorbitant membership fees.
Moreover, the cleanliness of the club is subpar at best. The locker rooms are filthy and neglected, with overflowing trash bins and unpleasant odors. I had expected a higher standard of cleanliness considering the amount of money they charge for their memberships.
Customer service is another major letdown. The staff members are disinterested and unhelpful, showing no genuine concern for the members' needs. Requests for assistance were met with indifference, leaving me feeling ignored and undervalued as a paying customer. It's clear that the management's focus is solely on making money rather than providing a positive customer experience.
The scheduling and organization at Bay Club Carmel Valley are also chaotic. Classes are frequently canceled without prior notice, leaving members frustrated and inconvenienced. The lack of communication and disregard for the members' time is utterly unprofessional.
Lastly, the value for money at this club is appalling. The exorbitant membership fees are unjustifiable considering the poor quality of the facilities and services offered. I have visited other fitness clubs in the area that provide superior amenities and a more positive environment at a fraction of the cost.
In conclusion, my experience at Bay Club Carmel Valley is no longer what it used to be and is a complete disappointment. From the lackluster facilities and cleanliness to the unhelpful staff and poor organization, it failed to deliver on its promises of luxury and excellence. I strongly advise potential members to consider other alternatives in the area that offer better value for their hard-earned money.

We re-joined the club in Feb. We love it since it is great location for the area resident and ample parking spot. They have added great new classes like Ignite and Hit. They also have outdoor classes so inside classes do not get crowded. The reason for 4 star is with being a huge place with cafeteria there is a big need for recycling bin and unfortunately they have none. I did complain to one of the staff and he said he is completely all for it and he has mentioned to the management. Also equipment in the inside need to be cleaned once in a while.

I love the positive vibes in this club. Love the group class instructors, very professional. High quality amenities. Feels like a recreation center / community in my backyard. :)
The only downside is that it is often packed. Zumba classes have no social distancing. :) Ignite classes are often with full capacity. But I guess that becomes your motivation to come!

Forget about any boxing. One thing that really upsets me is that for literally over 1.5 years we have been trying to get a simple heavy boxing bag. The kind you find in every single gym standard. When I joined they had one of those plastic at home ones and it broke. Then when we went back inside after Covid and after I was instructed to get other members to sign a petition that they wanted one, it was ordered. Then it was placed outside and guess what, broken.
I pay over $400 per month, almost 5K per year to be a member, I would even buy the bag for $150 if they would just put it in the gym. This has been a complete joke. Every single member I spoke to, and some made videos for me, wants a bag to workout with for boxing and kickboxing. This gym has promised and yet we don't have a working heavy bag. Completely unacceptable. If you are hoping to be able to have the ability to workout with a heavy bag, don't join.
If you are a current member and read this, please also post about this. The fact that I had to go get signatures on a petition and get videos of members saying they want a heavy bag in of itself just dumb for a gym of this caliber. Then the gym failed and failed again. SMH

Lots to offer for the whole family. Looking great outside after a recent update and offer pickleball here too now in case you didnt know. Lots of equipment and variety for whatever you are into and it doesnt seem to be a workout fashion show where people are all done up to go workout. For sure some of that but mostly people here to actually get for or relax.

I have been a member for a long time and this place still is a great upscale gym. They have tennis, squash, Pickleball and many outdoor activities. With the onset of Covid they placed most of their equipment outside in open air. Limited indoor activities are available as well. Fairbanks sister club is also a great compliment to the Carmel Valley club, and offers golf. Overall one of the best gyms in the CV/Del Mar area.

Super diverse amenities and great friendly and helpful staff. The yoga instructor on Wednesdays is awesome! We're new members so still getting the lay of the land. It's also getting busier now that covid is over and everyone is returning. My one critical feedback is on the dated locker rooms. The showers/drains are a bit stinky with a sewer smell. Small renovations would go a long way to help member satisfaction (I overheard other ladies complaining to lack of supply replenishments in the locker rooms as well).

Everything is good about this club. However, its price is pretty high for the amount of amenities they offer and they can work on refurbishing their gym equipment.

Been a member for 10 years and haven’t found any significant problem. But today I found a small rat inside adult pool. And it took them more than 15 minutes to just come and take a look at it. Also, towels have been little dirty these days. Please make sure the facility, towels and equipment are ABSOLUTELY CLEAN. This is a public facility so cleanliness is crucial.

Today I’m quitting this club. It’s expensive and I’ve been a member for years, but Bay Club management keeps implementing incredibly stupid self-destructive policies. Today, on the 4th of July, I’m at the pool and they tell me they’re kicking everyone out and closing at 2:00pm so they can have a party at the Fairbanks Club. I’m done.

The Bay Club will provide you with a very high-quality experience, whether that is swimming or eating. There is a wide variety of things for you to do, mainly sports. The only reason I am not giving this a 5-star rating is because it is a bit on the pricey side if you want a membership.

Before, I didn't have a gym that I would go to, but now I have a membership here. The membership is still pretty pricey. It's definitely not on the cheap side. But they lowered the cost enough that I don't feel bad paying that much when I go every day. Before, it was so expensive that it was not even worth the price even if you went to the gym every single day. Regardless of price though, this facility is impeccable. I cannot express how much I am a fan of the women's gym. Attached to the women's locker room is a smaller and private gym. As someone who normally swims and is terrible at any exercise on land, I definitely am anxious going into a large gym, but having the smaller gym attached to the women's locker room is a very nice and intimate feature. On top of all of that, the locker room facilities are just absolutely perfect. They are always super duper clean. The shampoo and conditioner smell amazing, and they even have shaving cream available. The towels are always warm and always stocked. The lockers are always clean and are small enough to seem too small, but big enough to fit my large swim bag. All around, A+ gym. I love it here.
