Best gym in the area! They have an amazing facility but more so than anything is the amount of programs they have, and especially related to basketball! That’s the big difference right there! They run their own gym league and have two different levels so you can pick the division that fits you! Lloyd is the athletic director and you can tell he really cares about providing the best gym experience! I’ve told several friends who were at equinox down the street and have canceled and joined the bay club! Highly recommend this gym over any in the area, it’s not even close!

Poor client service. The membership staff was bureaucratic, generally unhelpful, and not empowered to assist effectively. Unable to provide ingredients or brand of the shower products. While the facilities are clean and well-equipped, the overall experience is subpar. Bay Club is overpriced for the value it provides; you’re better off choosing another well-known club in the area.

Great club, great classes, clean, and amazing teachers.
One teacher/trainer in particular who is awesome is Neil Koehler. He brings a great attitude, knowledge good music and energy to every class he teaches. He definitely has a fan base who take his classes regularly, which include Ignite, Tabata, Battle, Body Pump and Pilates. All great and results-oriented! He taught online during the pandemic and kept many of us fit and happy at a very weird time. Can't recommend the club and more specifically Neil enough!

This is getting three stars because it really is a nice gym and the equipment is fantastic and there are great amenities.

But the absolute biggest issue, beyond all of the price increases and the overcrowding, is the hours. I just cannot understand why they haven’t extended the hours yet especially with all of the pricing increases. They can very well pay for a couple of extra hours of staff manning the front desk to let people in. At this price frankly, it should be open, practically all of the time, if not 24 hours. Some people have to get up and work out and be on the road to work by 5 AM. This is a community where there are a lot of medical staff who work night shifts and need to get into the gym well before 5 AM or well after 10PM . and it’s such a bummer on the weekends that the gym doesn’t open till seven and then on top of that they close early. I just don’t get it.

It is the absolute single biggest issue I have with this place and if they don’t have any plans to extend the hours I’ll probably join another gym . I’d even pay a lot more to join a competitor if their hours were more conducive to real life and people who work.

Also, what’s with all the young teenagers now? I know they need a place to work out too, but aren’t there high school gyms for that? This place needs to take the comments and reviews seriously, otherwise they’re just falling into the same trap that every sell out gym does when a big private equity firm buys them and reduces expenses to the bone. It never works, and it shows when all the corners get cut. It doesn’t matter how many times you reconfigure the floors and make pretty new arrangements with the equipment, the members don’t care about that. We want better service, better hours and fewer people.

Vice president of athletics scolded me for not attending the class which I’ve actually attended! Why we check in the club then? Guys, you should concentrate on club maintenance and in pool availability - your AC system failed. I am keeping the membership in this club mainly because of the pool. But availability to the pool became very complicated. Despite of having the kids pool they train the children in the adults pool reserving 3 lanes from 5 in the most popular hours, so I almost never can get there and it’s very disappointing. I love the club, it has all kinds of machines and group classes, great relaxation zone with massage chairs. But please make the pool available to adults too. Thank you.
PS: Response of the club is ridiculous - they offer to use the pool on Wednesdays, but I want to use it daily as it was expected while becoming the club member

This review is a summary of my wife's and my experience the Bay Club and why, after 12 years, we've left.

Price increases. From Jan 2022, our rates (2 members) went up ~64%. Yup, 64%, even paying annually in advance. Since we joined in 2013, it's increased 100%. If you are not a regular gym rat (3-5x per week), the average cost per visit can be a bit daunting (if you miss a month for any reason, that's a nice gift on your part).

There is a way to get a somewhat lower price. If you form a "pod" (max of 6), you can get a "family" plan rate. With 6, the lowest rate. This is great (and fair) for real families instead of paying max rates for everyone. But for people not in large families (i.e., my wife and I), to get the lowest rate, you need to recruit 4 people, collect their money and pay Bay Club. If one person (or more) leave, well, your price goes up unless *you* recruit more. If pod members are late paying you, *you* still need to pay the full amount on time. If you are just 2 people, well, your membership just needs to pay more than a random group of 6. Sorry.

Second, we've have had charges on our account by individuals at other Bay Clubs (Bay Area and Portland). This happened SIX times over 2 years. It was hard to get the staff to care and took repeated visits to clear the account charges (they literally said this is not our problem but the other clubs issue). My wife had to change the spelling of her last name in her membership in order to stop the charging because our club had *no* other solution. Hmmm.

Third, my wife's locker recently got broken into and her wallet was stolen. Not a fun experience.

Lastly, the gym dynamic has changed. The gym used to be adults, college age or higher, doing their workouts with space for everyone. With the new family plan in high gear, not just adult pods but families with teens (and their teen friends) are taking advantage. At times it seems like a high school has taken over the gym, especially on the basketball court and some workout areas. It's nice that the parents can drop off their kids in a safe environment, but other adults need to contend with the all the added overcrowding (plus the normal kid behavior). Even mid-day has started to get quite busy! What an odd combination of paying a lot more and getting a lot more crowded workout space.

I can't post without mentioning why we stayed as long as we did. Bay Club has many niceties for a gym. It's a huge space, and a wide variety of facilities, such as a lap pool, basketball court, multiple activity rooms. In the general workout rooms, there is a lot of equipment, of various type - it's a little surprising as to how many different types of equipment there can be, but they have it. This variety and scope had been a big reason why we were satisfied members for years and willing to accept the early price increases. The locker rooms are just okay (they are a bit on the old side but clean) but they do have a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna.

The final straw was getting that last bill with a 35% increase. Yesterday was our last day and no one from the Bay Club staff reached out to ask why we didn't re-up. It really feels like they don't value their members.

Listen to your reviews Bay Club. Make changes.

INFLATION!!!
I have been a member at this club for two years and they have raised the rates 4 times. I’m paying $260 a month and it’s going up to $275 a month in January 2025. They even charge me $6 for paying with a credit card! Other gyms don’t do that but Club Inflation does!

If you’re going to raise rates, at least open the club later on weekends, not 7pm. I have a gut feeling that they are going to raise rates again this year.

PROS:
1) Beautiful gym with great amenities and professional Staff
2) Recovery Room has excellent machines for muscular pain
3) Excellent showers and towel service
4) Great workout equipment

CONS:
1) Repetitive Price Increases ( paying with credit card has a fee)
2) Club closes early on weekends ( 7 PM)
3) Hard to get in the pool in the evenings with all the kids

I would like to thank everyone working in the Recovery Room for always being professional and helpful.
Thank you:)

Definitely not worth the money. They keep increasing the rates yet machines are constantly faulty or falling apart, barbells are rusty or squat racks are dirty and equipment moves daily. Even if you raise the issues to the team members nothing happens.

Not sure how they can keep charging what they do for the service and product you get.

Awful hostile front desk, employees. The man with the thick glasses whom doesn’t wear a name tag (likely against their policies) wouldn’t help or accept gifts for their toy drive. They had an open house/Christmas party

“Open House admission free with new, unwrapped toy donation. Guest pass invite for first-time guests who live or work in the area”

I recommend people don’t go here.
I’m sending an email to their corporate management.

I truly love this gym but the hours aren’t conducive with a working 9-5 schedule. The weekends are when I run errands and would like to enjoy the gym in the evenings they close Saturdays and Sundays ( most peoples days off) at 7PM! And earlier on Friday nights. I know a lot of members aren’t happy with the hours and I’m sure more members would join if the hours were more flexible! I heard from the front desk they haven’t changed there hours back to normal from COVID DAYS! For 260$ a month the hours should be adjusted expeditiously!

When it comes to Gyms in the South Bay, Bay Club El Segundo is top 2 and it's not 2. I write this to you, my dear reader, dripping in sweat on the spin bike near the Racquetball courts trying to lean out as much as possible before I leave for this Mexico trip tomorrow.

I don't even know where to start with this review to be honest. So much to cover. It has been a staple of the community since it was the Sports Connect (or Sports Erect as the locals called it hehehe), then when it was Spectrum, and now Bay Club.

I have been a fixture in here ever since the Spectrum days (2005ish) when I was cooking other 9 year olds at the School of Skillz camp that was running in the Clipper Gym, as the Clippers used to practice here.

Summers in here used to be like a low budget all star game as there were 2 full indoor basketball courts. I've seen Derek Fisher, James Harden, Lisa Leslie, Andrew Bynum, Klay Thompson, Timofey Mozgov, Devin Fleming, all cook in here over the years, among many others.

When Bay Club took ownership and removed one half of the basketball courts, they removed a piece of my soul with it. But that's okay, all good things must come to an end and there is beauty in that.

When I lost the basketball bug my junior year of high school (due to getting cut from the basketball team haha) I coped by picking up the weights. The weight room in here is idyllic as there are plenty of bench presses, squat racks, machines, dumbbells, pull up bars, open spaces, etc. Seldom have I ever had to wait for a bench press in here, which is a luxury I didn't understand in my youth. That was a rude awakening when I got to college.

Once I realized that girls really don't care about how your body looks as long as you are in decent shape, my passion for picking up weights and putting them down withered. I signed up for a half ironman because I figured I'm in the gym all this time, may as well put it towards some sort of end goal.

I then did my 4 month crash course in ironman training in Bay Club, rotating from the olympic sized pool, to the spin bike, to the treadmill for 6 days a week. It was hell, but it was my chosen form of hell and I felt like a world champion when I completed that half ironman.

All this to say, this place has seen this young chimp become a full grown gorilla and has been there for me through all 3 phases of my workout journey. What more could I possibly ask for in a gym?

Oh you thought I was going to end this review without shouting out my boy Ray, who has been holding it down at the front desk for YEARS? Well think again, my dear reader. Ray used to have to kick us out of the gym when closing time came as we’d be begging “Please Ray it’s next basket wins just one more basket” as he would stand there and begrudgingly oblige. Ray is honestly the best employee I could ever imagine, nothing gets by Ray. You wanna sneak a homie in when Ray isn't looking? GOOD LUCK. Best to just come back on another day I promise, we never got by Ray. Y'all need to pay Ray more, man I love Ray.

One of my favorite parts of the day is going to this gym. They have many great classes, a wonderful daycare if needed, the food is good and the sauna, steam room situation is a relaxing treat. Everything is clean and well maintained, the people who work and go there are kind and pleasant. Parking can be challenging on a bad day and popular classes need to be signed up for in time to not be put on a waitlist. Coffee is free from 8-11 am and the shower/locker rooms are equipped with anything you may need.

Private equity purchased Bay Club years ago and in that time, membership fees have soared well over 100%, (now in the $200s per person!), yet there have been minimal updates to anything warranting this increase. They have also maximized profits by allowing discounted family memberships with decreased rates for teens, which only increases the number of high schoolers hanging out here on their parents dime. Constant shortage of towels, jacuzzi and pool are dirty, nowhere to park even in off peak hours (lot isn’t even enforced) the free coffee is terrible, and staff is generally unpleasant about helping with anything. Redondo Beach location is even worse with an aging 1980s locker room, rotting mold and sewer problems, and a constantly rotating deluge of broken equipment. Stop increasing the pricing, members are fed up— this isn’t an elite country club.

We have been members of the Bay Club since December 2022, and in that time (about 8 months) they have increased their prices twice (the most recent increase happened without a month notice, so even if you wanted to cancel, you wouldn't be able to do so before the increase went into effect w/ their 30-day notice cancellation policy).

They claim that the increase was to make them "market price" however, what they deliver is not inline with gyms in similar price ranges and they have made no enhancements to the facilities to justify a price increase.

The locker rooms are dated, there is carpeting throughout the locker room and gym floor, and most of the equipment is old.

The gym is constantly packed, parking is a nightmare, and it's impossible to get into the good classes (of which they don't have many). The clientele includes a lot of teenage members that spend more time talking loudly and messing around on the gym floor, in the locker rooms and sauna/steam rooms than they do working out.

Recently, I was there on a Monday night, and the women's locker room had towel and trash bins that were overflowing, clumps of hair in the drains/on the walls of almost every shower stall, and garbage on many of the shower floors (including a used tampon applicator).

Not even close to being worth the price for what you get! We are currently exploring other options for gyms in the area.

She is always smiling and kept us all moving with foam weights and noodles and my friend and I went home feeling great and a bit sore with our arms and glutes worked out! Gym itself is great. Nice facilities and classes. Parking is rough. There should be a family entrance but most guys use this parking making it hard for families with kids since the children cannot use the main entrance. Also childcare is impossible. You have to be on the hunt for space a week before.
What kills me is marking territory in classes. Let's say you go to hip hop at 9am. There are already towels on the floor marking "spots", people throw them then go to the bathroom, go outside, their towel "saving their place" you hear people complain how their usual spot got "taken", there are a few people with attitude just taking the front and sides claiming it with a white towel or water bottle. I've been to other gyms, even of lesser quality, never to one where people feel the need to mark territory. It's nonsense. They even do it for themselves and their friends. It is a weird vibe. Very aggressive for this area, not happy with this.

Overly priced. They raised the price by $30 PER person in our group since January 2023 and say they will continue to raise the price every January. For the premium price, very underwhelming for a large facility with some good amenities and nice cafe. Parking is is horrible most times of the day and weekend. People on top of you on the gym floor, locker room, and pool. My guess is they will start placing two shower heads in the showers so people can double up. Gym oversubscribed and overpriced. It's a 24 hour fitness with lipstick.

Private equity firm that owns it squeezing every nickel they can out of it. Ok with them creating a very profitable business. However, I wish the experience matched the price.

BayClub will be raising our rate by $40 a month, with less than a month notice - after they had already raised our rate by $10 the previous year without notice. They say that this change in fees would make them market price but this gym is just not on par with similar priced gyms and it has had a significant dip in quality over the past year- it is now way over capacity so don’t expect to find parking at peak and not so peak hours, you will have to park a block a way - there are not enough treadmills, expect to wait 5-10 minutes - same with a lot of essential machines, of which they sometimes only have one or two, and instead there are a lot of unused novelty machines - the lockers are ancient and easy to hack so there have been a lot of thefts and their only solution was to post a sign saying they’re not responsible and to leave your valuables at home - so don’t bring your phone keys or wallet to the gym - with two other recent Bay Club closures we are getting even less value for the money - NOT WORTH THE PRICE

Use to love this place but it's turned into a glorified 24 hour fitness. Management is unfriendly especially when checking in guests, and it's literally become a hang out spot for high school kids from El Segundo and Mira Costa. A section of the locker room has been closed for about 3 months and the water fountain has been removed as well. Pickle ball is prioritized over basketball and the club is genuinely ran as a family hang out zone instead of a professional gym. If you're going to pay 200 dollars a month for access to ONE gym (Santa Monica's steam room is down) and they closed the palisades location, it was simply a no brainer to switch the to the gym down the street. *hint hint

We originally signed up because this was the only gym with child care easing out of the pandemic. We stay because it not only has the best child care facility I’ve seen in a gym, but because it’s clean, the equipment is always being upgraded, the layout simple, the staff are amazing, and the people there are generally happy. We’ll keep coming back 🙌🏼

Reviewing prep swim coach, Rob Savage, who is the "swim whisperer." He's will get your child in great shape to qualify for Junior Guards.

If you're looking for a coach who praises your child after each lesson then he is not the right coach for you. Parents are not allowed and participation medals are definitely not handed out! He gives praise for improvement, focus and implementing his instruction. His classes aren't easy, but he gets results!

Our daughter loved the way he pushed her to bring out the best in herself. Wish coaches across all sports took this approach with children as it also built immense confidence and character!

GreAt classes, amazing staff. I Usually take ignite circuit training and dance Groov3 or hip hop. Then I steam and eat in the cafe and do work. It’s a real fitness club with high quality services and very clean facilities.

Love this place because it’s spacious! Basketball courts, swimming, dance and yoga studios and racquetball, you can’t beat it! Ample Exervise equipment, ample stretching and floor areas. Also, Cafe Vida food is yummy! I only wish you had quick pre and post workout recovery products.😎

The Bay Club is truly the most family friendly fitness and recreation option in South Bay. I have children ranging different ages and there is really something for everyone. The kids club is very interactive professional and has amazing activities. I'm so happy we decided to make the investment to be part of the community absolutely a game changer. Additionally the whole process of getting signed up and visiting didn't feel like a sales experience. It felt like partnership!

The facility is clean. The staff is very welcoming. Lots of workout equipments available. Exercise classes are available, however I haven't done any in awhile. Do my own floor weights. Some days l go swimming 🏊‍♀️. The pool lanes are busy. Watch out for the kids swimming after school. The place is busy after 4 pm. So, get there earlier.

I’ve been going to gyms for about 20 years, and the El Segundo facilities, staff, and classes all far exceeded my expectations! Every staff member I interacted with, from the front desk to the fitness instructors, was extremely knowledgeable and professional, and even the gym members themselves were wonderful to interact with (I am not used to this).

The El Segundo facility has every sort of equipment imaginable, including TRX, reformers, and a pool, and the classes are understandably popular. Be sure to sign up as far in advance as possible, and try to show up at least five minutes before class and chat with the instructors before diving in. The Ignite class was especially fun!

I had a fantastic experience at Bay Club for the 2 years I was a member and I largely attribute it to Thomas Brooks - the Senior Membership Director. He helped me in any way he could when my fiance and I were signing up, was very understanding when I had to push my start date because I had to fly out of state for an emergency, has helped me numerous times with booking classes and rooms (which I don't even believe falls under his typical role), and has just been a fantastic human being. He is so kind and eager to help. I wish everyone was as good at their jobs as Thomas is.

I've been going to the Bay club on and off for the past eleven years, every time I'm back to LA I end up signing up again. There aren't too many options in the area for private gyms, I really wish the members from the Howard Hughes did not merge to this location, because they tend to not clean up after themselves and some talk loud on the phone while working out, but seems like they're not staying for too long after their contracts end. I'm excited about the new renovation, the facility looks much better now.

They have a good variety of classes, the instructors are knowledgeable, yoga practice is very good similar to Yoga Loft, they have private Pilates and regular Pilates classes that are amazing to tone up. I enjoy my late night workout and equipment. There is a program of activities that change during the year such as conducting sound bath sessions.
The management are nice and professional when I contact them of issues.

Cafe and food menu is fresh with healthy choices and pleasant service

The only concern is that the jaccuzi needs to be drained more often with more members using it .. or at least filter foam in the ladies spa.
I'll update my review if this issue is fixed as I hope it does!

Shocked to learn my annual membership dues increase for 2020 is 50% more than I paid in 2019. There has been nothing like this in the 20 years of membership in Spectrum/Bay Club. While increases for improvements may be justified this seems excessive by any measure particularly when improvements are not consistent among Club locations.
Very disappointed.

For over two years I voiced my concerns to management and executive management regarding unsanitary pool conditions. Conditions became worse after the closing of the Howard Hughes Center facility and more people using the pool. Management was non-responsive and demonstrated annoyance when concerns were shared. I had hoped that things would improve after the remodeling but they didn’t . After sharing my concerns with the Dept. Of Health the pool was shut down for a period of time until it was brought up to standards. It was also exposed by the health Dept that the proper permits were not obtained by Bay Club and that the pool was not inspected before re-opening. A few days after Bay Club found out that I had notified the health Dept I received a phone call that they were terminating my membership. Shame on them for their retaliatory response. I now go to another health club just down the street. So worth the $20 more per month. I forgot how nice it is to swim in a truly “exquisite” pool.

the gym is semi remodeled, price that cost me to become a member was 1,970 for a full year.

as the gym looks amazing, they allow anyone in the gym that can open your locker and take your valued items.

this has happened before to other members and I don't see any re enforcement.

towel service does run out, towels have stains.

management advised don't bring valued items in the gym, because they higher end gyms like ours and equinox do get target more.

so I advised them that I would cancel and go to planet fitness for $20 a month. knowing for sure items can be stolen.

management agreed.

I try to be gentle with my review:

Two week after singing up, a senior pooped in the water. During this time the pool was open and it was as no big deal.
Moving forward I Find a large group of diaper citizens 70-90+

When I try to address the issue, they tried to brush it off or give an example of some other sorts, such as well children poop and pea as well. Very lame.

They need to stop taking seniors and send them elsewhere. I’m very fed up with them.

They provide with towels, but they do not use softener with the towels. The towels are very rough . The quality of the shampoos and conditioners aren’t that great in the showers .

The ladies working in the back room are very angry and on the edge. Twice I walked in with the cell phone in my hand and they started yelling that I should not be holding a phone . I was surprised, “how rude they were??”
I try to explain to them, that the sign says no talking on the phone. I am just holding my phone . I found them extremely rude

Pros:

Amazing yoga, Zumba and dance classes. All the teachers and instructors are very inspiring and amazing . The gentleman who sign up our names is also very fair and takes care is you right away.

The lounge area with the heated seats and the restaurant is amazing as well. The rest of the facility is pretty decent.

The front desk staff are also extremely friendly and helpful .

Awful experience, cancelled membership and they kept charging me. Thankfully I kept the paper I signed to cancel. So I brought that in and they apologized, "yes we'll refund your money"... no response after that, and many other calls to the lady in charge. The only thing that saved me from hundreds of dollars of fraudulent charges and Spectrum's ineptitude was my credit card company.

I was skeptical initially, but I'm completely won over at this point.
They've made good on their promise of new equipment. The ellipticals are a definite improvement. The same routine is now leaving me drenched, which really makes the dual speed fan a joy. The toiletries - shampoo/conditioner/shower gel are superior.
And what really jazzes me, as retired Teamster, is the way management treats their employees. They took over, gave them a raise and promoted them to full time. Unheard of!!!
