I have been a member of Bay Club Fremont for nearly 20 years, but my experience has declined significantly in recent years.

One major issue is the reduced hours. The club used to be open until 11 PM every night, but now closes at 10 PM on weekdays and 7 PM on weekends. This makes it difficult to fit in workouts on weekends if I’m busy during the day. Many weekends workouts are just missed allogether. They had initially reduced hours during covid and just never extended them back to normal?

Another significant loss was the removal of the jacuzzis from the male and female locker rooms. Outdoor jacuzzis are not always practical due to weather, lack of proper gear, or comfort concerns in a mixed-gender setting, especially in a small space. For me, this was a critical part of recovery, and now there is nothing in its place. It’s disappointing that money is spent on other updates, but one of the club’s best amenities was removed. Nothing was even replaced there, its just empty floor.

The basketball courts are also a concern. One side is frequently closed for badminton, which has far fewer players than basketball, and often the court sits empty. In addition, half of the open court is sometimes closed just to train a single child, forcing over 30 members to play on a half court. Other Bay Club locations, like Pleasanton, manage their space better and leave both full courts available. Given the cost of membership, this feels unfair to members.

Another major concern is the TV setup in the upstairs weight room. The TVs are rarely synced or ready for important sports games, like Warriors or 49ers games. Members often have to get someone from downstairs to turn on the correct channel, which is basic functionality that even low-cost gyms handle automatically. The system should allow games to be on by default and be controlled remotely from downstairs. There are also too few TVs upstairs, limiting the ability to watch key events during workouts.

Overall, I am disappointed with the reduction of hours, removal of key amenities, outdated TV system, and the way facilities are managed. I hope the club takes member feedback into consideration to improve the experience.

A few of the instructors here play music extremely loud especially David Dixon. He demands the studio doors remain open and will scream at you if you close the door as I did today to workout upstairs above the studios. He even said the music would be louder. So possibly he has hearing loss and doesn’t understand this. Bay Club should provide education to the members about continued exposure to loud music. Once you lose your hearing no return. I gave 4 stars as most personnel are professional and helpful but not this one

I’ve had an incredible experience at Bay Club. The equipment is always clean, modern, and well-maintained, and the staff is consistently friendly and professional.

I especially want to highlight my trainer, JP. He has been phenomenal to work with—he’s positive, supportive, and truly invested in helping you reach your goals. Every session feels intentional and motivating, and he always gives the perfect amount of encouragement to push you while still making you feel confident and empowered. His training style aligns perfectly with my goals, and I’ve already seen major improvements.

Daniel’s “yoga class” is basically him sitting in front calling out pose names and nothing else. No demos, no cues, no corrections… just vibes. Repeats the same routine every week like copy-paste yoga. Truly inspiring levels of effort.

This place is not recommended for working folks who only have time in the evenings or on weekends. The strength training session such as GP on weekend is crowded as Planet Fitness. It’s been 4 months, and many times I have to leave because there’s no space in the strength training sessions. At times, I have seen other people leaving due to overcrowding. it feels like a waste of money.
Some type of sessions are completely empty while others are overcrowded. The manager should take a round, assess the demand for a session or demand for a trainer, and adjust the sessions or trainers accordingly. I waited for 4 months to write this review with a hope that this is common sense and management will fix it. It’s clear that the place is not managed properly.

Unfair Treatment and Harassment by Member and Mishandled by Manager Javier

Today I reserved the squash court 12, 10:45 am-11:30 am to practice pickleball drills against the wall. Around 11:00 am, a woman and her daughter entered and began harassing me, accusing me of misusing the court. They aggressively confronted me, took photos and videos of me without my consent, and tried to pressure me to leave even though my booking was valid until 11:30 am. From my impression, they simply wanted to use the court early before their own reservation.

When I reminded them that I had the court reserved, the mother continued recording me while the daughter went to report me. Their son was visibly frightened and crying during this conflict, which shows how disruptive and inappropriate their behavior was. I felt targeted, disrespected, and unsafe as they invaded my privacy and attempted to intimidate me.

At about 11:20, the manager, Javier, entered and interrupted my practice. I stepped outside and explained the situation, making it clear that I respected the rules but that I was the victim in this case — harassed, filmed without consent, and pressured to leave before my time was up. I also explained that I’ve seen coaches and other members use the squash court for different types of training, so if the court is strictly for squash, that policy should be applied consistently to everyone. Since I pay for my membership, I believe it is reasonable that I can practice my pickleball drills on the court as well.

Management/Patty, I respectfully ask that you review this incident and take steps to ensure this member’s misconduct does not happen again toward me or others. Harassment and unauthorized recording create an unsafe environment for the Bay Club community, and all members deserve to feel respected during their reserved time.

This is a review for lap swimming and locker rooms only, from the perspective of a high level swimmer. Hopefully it's helpful for other folks looking for a good pool for training purposes. I did not use the other facilities.

I did a one day trial here because good lap pools are hard to come by in this party of the bay. What i found: 1) no circle swimming (per the people I asked in the pool), 2) pool temp is on the high end for seriour lap swimming (83, per staff) - body will overheat pretty quickly at 83 if you're fit swimmer doing a harder program. 3) Rec pool style lip is dangerous for flip turns and results in a lot of wake. 4) Pool was clean and looked well maintained. 5) Locker rooms leave a lot to be desired, as covered extensively in other reviews.

All in all, probably a fine pool for swimmers who are doing the pool equivalenet of a walk in their neighborhood. For serious swimmers, sadly, this is not a great fit.

Locker rooms are a bit dingy. Showers themselves were nice but the lockers are literally falling apart on the inside, and the layout is weird. Facility is overall a bit small and has a very early-aughts vibe to it. Weight and cardio area is pretty standard for a commercial gym. Pool is 6 lanes and crowded, and most folks here are very slow, so it's not a good pool for any kind of serious lap swimming, especially since they do not tier lanes by speed like most lap pools.

Bay Club needs to hire a professional cleaning crew to ensure hygiene, and cleaning standards are maintained.

Deep cleaning and sanitization schedule needs to occur daily.
Maintaining gym sanitization and locker room cleanliness should be important to Bay Club Management and Staff.

Germs, Fungal, bacterial, and viral infections can often be acquired from dirty showers, floors, sauna, steam room, and pools. As these organisms thrive in moist environments, infections can easily spread from person’s skin to the surface, and then onto others.

Bay Club should make sanitization, cleaning standards, and overall maintenance a high priority.

Cracked Glass in locker room
Dirty air vent in locker room
Rust and broken items in locker room
Elkay Water Filter Status light not working
Hand sanitizer should be refilled
Dirty lockers

Towels need to be thoroughly cleaned and bleached

Outdoor Jacuzzi Hot Tub requires grout cleaning, and thorough cleaning of the hot tub surface.

Sauna and steam room is dirty and requires grout cleaning

I enjoy my time at the club and recommend it to my friends and colleagues. It's good the see the regular upgrades the club has gone through just in the 6 months that I've been a member:
1. New fitness equipment at the gym
2. Group class studio rooms (X2) upgrades
3. Family bathroom renovation
4. New Recovery space with a variety of massage chairs/equipment

I was a member for over 20 years. When I first joined it was a nice gym but in the last few years the quality has declined a lot. The hot tub in the mens area is gone and the outdoor hot tub rarely works, the lockers are poorly maintained, to the point where it seems unsafe. It is impossible to reach a human manager. I recently canceled my membership but they are ignoring my cancelation and continue attempting billing my credit card.

My family and I have been members of this facility since 2003. I used to go almost daily since I was a kid, as I was a part of the swim team. I had a great experience. We were paying around $220 a month for 4 people. However, during covid we suspended our membership. I tried joining this week but the monthly cost comes to over $500 which is ridiculous. I don't see any reason as to why a gym membership is over $500 especially given that most people only come here for pool and tennis court access. This place is not worth $500 a month. Until they reduce monthly fees, I will not return back to Bay Club.

My per person gym dues are enough to pay for 16 Planet Fitness memberships.

Edit Sep 2023:
I honestly can no longer recommend it. They changed the shower heads in the men's shower to ones with such low water pressure that I no longer bother showering at the gym. Since the showers are no longer usable in that regards, there is no value in going to this gym over a more run of the mill gym like 24 Hrs. or Planet Fitness. I also emailed Bay Club concierge about this issue for over two months and my emails went unanswered and ignored.

Previous Review:

Overall my husband and I enjoy the club. The gym area is nice with fairly new equipment. The womens locker room is nice. Just sometimes an issue of waiting for clean towels to be restocked. The biggest thing I see as room for improvement is extending the clubs hours. I have tried to find a time of day that isn't busy, but it is ALWAYS busy. It being so busy all the time makes it feel like a big box gym. Which I feel that we pay too much to be feeling that way.

If u want an almost serene, clean, and overall full fitness experience, Bay Club is very nice option. I joined as a member through a current member at a reasonable price. Bearing the full fee is not worth it since I only go to lift weights. But once my regular gym 24 hour fitness) recovered from overcrowding, I stopped going to Bay Club.

They have amazing things to do but their weights were just not good enough. Either too small or lacking key machines was my gripe. But if u like swimming l, racketball, swanky facilities then Bay Club is likely worth the 💰

Little disappointed with the changes recently. They spent a bunch of time and money (and raised rates) to “renovate” the pool and locker rooms but things only got worse. The pool is identical to before, and the locker room got terrible low-flow shower heads that cause slow showers and queues during busy hours, plus they removed the hot tub.

While the club has decent amenities, particularly the lap pool and classes, there is something to be said about this club’s management continuing its greedy efforts to squeeze every nickel and dime out of each membership. Every year, close to the end of the calendar year, management undertakes what it calls a “membership review,” which really is a euphemism for “we’re going to jack up rates” in the new year. This year alone (in May), the club undertook a membership review where it unilaterally raised rates
justifying the increase by explaining that members have begun to come back and the club somehow needs to recoup the costs it incurred during the pandemic when plenty of members suspended their memberships. I don’t know how true this is since it is very possible that the club applied for and received PPP funds. I’ve been a member of this club since 2014 and I’m glad to be cutting the cord. Although I will miss the folks I’ve gotten to know and have become friends with over the years, cutting the cord on principle makes sense to me. Whether or not one has an endless supply of cash to pay for membership, one has to decide if yearly increases and the cost of membership is worth it since this is what one can expect as a member of this club.

A Fantastic Experience at Bay Club Fremont, with a Refreshing Swimming Pool!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Bay Club Fremont, and I must say, it was an incredible experience from start to finish! The facility offers an array of amenities, but I was particularly thrilled with their exceptional swimming pool.

First and foremost, the swimming pool at Bay Club Fremont is simply outstanding. The pool area is well-maintained, and the water is kept at a perfect temperature for a refreshing swim. Whether you're an avid swimmer or simply enjoy leisurely laps, this pool will surely meet your expectations. The clean and sparkling water made my swimming sessions enjoyable and invigorating.

In addition to the pool itself, the poolside amenities were also top-notch. The deck area provided ample space for lounging and sunbathing, with comfortable chairs and umbrellas to relax under. The staff was incredibly attentive, ensuring that the pool area was always tidy and well-stocked with towels.

I must mention that during my visit, there was a shortage of showers due to ongoing renovations. Although this was a slight inconvenience, the overall experience at the swimming pool more than made up for it. The pool's exceptional condition and the club's commitment to maintaining cleanliness outweighed any temporary limitations.

Another notable aspect of Bay Club Fremont is their attention to the little details that enhance your visit. One such example is the complimentary coffee they offer in the mornings, which is a thoughtful touch. It's a fantastic way to start the day before diving into the pool and getting energized.

The staff at Bay Club Fremont deserves a special mention. They were friendly, professional, and always ready to assist with any questions or concerns. Their commitment to ensuring a positive experience for every member and guest was truly impressive.

In conclusion, Bay Club Fremont is a fantastic place to enjoy a rejuvenating swim. Despite the temporary shortage of showers due to renovations, the overall experience at the swimming pool was exceptional. I highly recommend visiting this club for its outstanding facilities, attentive staff, and the perfect swimming pool experience. I will definitely be returning for more invigorating swims and relaxing moments by the poolside!

We’ve been members for a few years and while the rates continue to increase, the overall service offerings have decreased. For the past year, when I go in the evenings, there are never any shower towels available. The lines for the shower are at least 10 people deep and the showers are moldy. Many of the locks on the lockers don’t work nor do the hair dryers. A big part of joining was the childcare offerings but after the pandemic they never re-opened the big kids child care area. Our 10 and 8 yr olds were stuck in an infant/toddler space with nothing to do. They hated it. Now they’re redoing the women’s showers (6 week estimate) and redoing the pool & deck (10 week estimate ) and not prorating dues when half the amenities we use are inaccessible. I sent my concerns in through the app and while they promise a 2 day response turnaround, I still haven’t heard back. This was weeks ago. The only compliment I have to offer are to the female facilities staff that are likely overworked but maintain good service and the more tenured female front desk staff that always smile and greet members cordially. Otherwise, for what they charge, I don’t recommend this gym.

Drove 40+ minutes here for a Thursday heated yoga class but was not let in the studio because “it’s full”. However, I have signed up for the class online (25 ppl capacity) and obviously some people that didn’t sign up have taken the spots. If it’s a first come first serve style, please make it clear on your website.

—————
Just talked to the manager, she even said if I’ve been to the class a few times, the instructor should know me and let me in… I was wearing a mask and the room was dark, not sure the teacher recognizes everyone. Also, why it matters if she knows me or not to attend a yoga class? I also counted the number of pairs of shoes outside, at least 28 people plus the instructor in the studio now (over capacity with people not signed up).

They could easily install a bar code scanner at the studio door, so people signed up can get a green light to enter. If anyone does not show up, the system can free up the spots for people on the waiting list when class starts.

Ok, here is another follow-up. The Wednesday heated yoga instructor somehow changed his rules too. He refused to let me and another girl in the class although we arrived on time at 5:30pm sharp. Managed to have a class reservation and beat the peak time traffic driving 40 minutes. Again, the instructor was so rude saying “yes, it’s 5:30pm and you are late!” Then he shut the door.

The customer service is terrible. They added package options and I've had so many billing issues. I feel bad for the sales and front desk staff who have no access to the system to help with issues. You always have go through their clunky app and open a ticket. The ticket goes to nowhere! Issues take days and weeks to resolve. I've had better service at the DMV.

I have been visiting bayclub since July 2021. It one of the best fitness clubs. Fremont one is good but other bayclubs are simply amazing. Please find a family for shared membership then you will end up paying 82$ otherwise its very expensive

For the 140 dollar price point, I expect much more. This place focuses all their money into the wrong stuff. They have 20 treadmills and 1 real bench press. The squat/deadlift racks are outdated and look old. The basketball courts are always filled up because they always use half of it for volleyball or badminton. Instead of making extra space for volleyball or badminton, they build more squash courts for some dumb reason. They have an absurd amount of tennis and squash courts when there isn’t even enough space for basketball, table tennis, volleyball, or badminton.
I really hope management takes the time to read this and actually make changes out of this long overdue problem.

This place gets too many bad reviews!!! Bay Club Fremont has to be one of the most pristine and professional gyms I have ever been to. The management and membership team are some of the most hard working individuals I have ever met. For someone who is interested in a family/adult gym atmosphere, this is the place to come. In terms of equipment, they prioritize mostly on cardio machines, but still offer traditional weights and racks that other gyms such as 24/hour fitness have. They have a spectacular pool and several tennis/racquetball courts where family and friends can play all day. Fitness classes are constantly running throughout the day with some of the best trainers and instructors. Like I said before, this place doesn't get enough love for the amount of hard workers and nice equipment they have there. My only negative comment would be about how the OTHER MEMBERS of the club leave the facility. I've seen members throw towels on the ground, leave pool toys by the pool deck, and throw trash on the ground like it's a pig still. The worst I've witnessed is how some members believe they have a sense of entitlement over the employees and belittle them through argument. The members here truly do not respect the employees for what they do. To end, I would like to give a shoutout to Cristina G and Krag on the management team for making this club so wonderful. I'd also like to shoutout the people at the front desk like Alfredo, Sean, Samantha and the rest of the staff for greeting me at the door everyday as I walk in. I would recommend coming here!

It should really get negative stars, if I can. The management is extremely incompetent and irresponsible. I have cancelled my membership last Dec. Yet, they are still charging me $400 a month, that I found out and dealt with them back and forth, back and forth - they are still doing this even after they claimed they resolved the issue!! Still waiting for them to resolve their accounting issue. Bunch of crooks! Run away as fast as you can.

For the amount of money paid monthly, I expect this gym to be open past 9pm. The more this gym continues to close at 9pm the more it seems absurd that two months of dues here is like a full year at 24 Hour. Pay $2k+ annually to actually be able to use less. Continue to do this and you will lose members out to places that open later, and offer more weight lifting options. Yes, less people go to Bay Club, but only because it is expensive compared to other places that actually aren’t so bad.

One thing I noticed was the lack of cleaning sprays and hand sanitizer that other gyms would overly supply. Instead, you get a small packet of wet wipes located in the corners of the facilities, which means that people are likely to not clean after using equipment.

Also, members get to “bring guests” (3 passes per month) but explain why it takes 10 minutes to do so every single time. Other places just combine guest pass into the check in process, and it is much better than having either staff not know what they are doing or even the manager getting annoyed at you that you brought a guest.

I appreciate the locker room staff and younger staff since they are very nice and try their best to keep things going. But the place is actually understaffed for the size of the place and I’m sure it wears on everyone to be multi-tasking at all times. I’m not surprised when there are times that towels are not ready for a couple hours simply because there aren’t enough people to prepare them.

Things were better when it was ClubSport and it didn’t feel like we got our fees raised by 50%. Not sure what the high cost is currently for if less people are actually maintaining the large facility. Definitely try other places before committing to this one.

We took family membership so that my son and daughter could use the swimming pool and gym before they head out to collage in August. But I was very disappointed by their lack of proper communication and professional courtesy. When we joined they said we will get one free training session and someone would call soon. But nobody called in two months! When I tried to cancel in August, they are now saying it has to be until the end of September. This was not at all communicated well when we joined. Overall, very disappointed by this experience.

One in Fremont is most dirties place then other club. They do not so many classes and worse thing is bath rooms are the most dirty hairs are everywhere. They do not cleaning service for couple of months. floor in locker area is very bad. Think twice before you pay so much dues. It looks like other gym where you do not pay so high monthly dues. Is the same here.

The club used to be good when it is not partner with Bay club. After that, more members came in and the parking place is crowed. They increases membership fee every year and hide it in a link to your email. Be sure to think over before sign anything. They have a lot of policies only benefit themselves. Poor management.

Since the transition from Club Sport, this place has gone to dumps. Staff is rude, pricing has gone up... been going there for over 6 years and have decided to leave on a sour note because of rude interactions and inflexibility of the new staff... PLEASE DON'T JOIN ... not worth hundreds of dollars they charge... NO ONE will help you with machines unless you pay additional for trainers. There is NO VALUE for long time customers.

Don't join this club and don't trust the sales! My sales didn't told me there's a promotion that if I prepaid for one year and I can get 2 months for free. Me and my friend asked him for this promotion and he promised to give us but regretted after we had already signed the documents and gave my credit card number!
They lie and they don't deserve customers' trust! I will cancel my membership this month.

The place looks pretty good but the staff are ridiculously rude and unprofessional, I’ve been to various gyms and I haven’t seen a gym like this with a lack of staff members especially when the staff are extremely racist and not around to help or see if anything is wrong. Have not found any nice ones yet or respectful. I personally don’t recommend you going there and find another one.

You definitely pay more than other gyms for membership, but you get a great selection of group exercise classes, friendly customer service at the front desk and throughout the club, and complimentary shower and hand towels.

Tip: Come in the morning to avoid the crowd. It doesn't get too busy until 11AM.

+Other fee-based classes, such as Rev 32, Edge training and Mind and Body (hot yoga & Absolute Barre).
+The cafe downstairs serves Starbucks coffee, beer, and of course freshly made healthy snacks and smoothies.
+Child care is available for members at a reasonable price

If you decide to put your account on hold (at a ridiculous price by the way) or cancel your membership, you have to notify membership services 30 days in advance.
