The only thing worse than the facility being over 80°F due to years of recurring A/C failures (this is not a one-time issue) is the smell when there’s no air circulation... a clear sign of mildew and likely mold.

This facility is outdated, and it shows. The equipment is old and often malfunctioning. The locker room drains... including the sauna drain... emit strong sewer odors. These are health and hygiene concerns.

Bay Club continues to show patterns that suggest profit is prioritized over member experience. If that weren’t the case, what happened to the publicized 2025 renovation project? Dues are increasing again in January, yet there’s nothing to show for it.

When members say the locker rooms are dirty or unsanitary, it’s not a reflection of the hardworking staff. The truth is, the facilities themselves are crumbling. No amount of cleaning can fix old, broken infrastructure.

And of course...We’ve seen the response pattern before...a VP will likely ask for “offline” communication to avoid public accountability.

Review for Ivan – Bay Club Marin (Men’s Locker Room, Afternoon Shift)

Ivan does a great job in the men’s locker room during the afternoon shift at Bay Club Marin. He keeps the area clean, organized, and always carries himself professionally. His hard work and attention to detail really make a Difference .

I've been hitting the gym club for a few months now, and I've gotta say, it's been a wild ride. The members are a mixed bag, but I've met some cool folks who share my fitness goals and self thoughts.

The vibe is pretty chill, and everyone seems to be there for their own reasons, whether it's to get swole or just get moving. I've had some great conversations with people about workout routines and goals, and it's nice to feel like I'm part of a community.

That being said, the club itself could use some TLC. The equipment is decent, but some of the machines are getting a bit worn out. I've noticed some of the free weights are rusty, and the cardio machines could use a good cleaning, steam shower it’s one of the favorite’s but not as clean as needs to be..

The staff it’s been nothing but helpful, but they seem a bit overwhelmed. I've had to ask for help a few times, and it's taken them a while to get to me.

Overall, I'd say the gym club has potential, but it needs quite a bit of maintenance to meet the standards of theirs prices, If they can get the equipment, maintaince, and staff sorted out, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a chill gym vibe.

Rating: 3.5/5 stars. do I want to stick around? Yeah, probably. But hopefully, they'll get their lack of improvement to the right standards done soon and properly.

sincerely thanks to the ones the care about it like Ivan and a couple other folks for sure!

Not too bad but could use some improvement. Huge floor packed with cardio + weights, so I almost never wait, and the group-fit calendar is loaded—yoga, HIIT, Pilates, you name it. Staff friendly, towels plentiful. Only gripe: locker rooms feel straight-up 1995. Tip: weekday mid-afternoons are blissfully empty.

Membership prices keep rising, yet the facilities continue to deteriorate. Showers are filthy, walls show signs of dry rot, lockers are broken, and the locker rooms smell of mildew. Mold is a constant issue, and member feedback is routinely ignored—met only with generic responses and no follow-through. What happened to the $10 million reinvestment and renovation announcement last year? Despite repeated dues increases, there’s been no meaningful improvement. Bay Club seems more focused on acquiring new properties than maintaining its existing locations, leaving loyal members with outdated, neglected, and unsanitary facilities.

I hope this feedback helps improve the experience at Bay Club – Corte Madera:
• Towels are often dingy and don’t appear clean. The men’s locker room frequently runs out of towels altogether.
• The bathrooms and showers are not consistently maintained and are often dirty.
• Several locker locks are either malfunctioning or in need of new batteries.
• Much of the gym equipment is outdated and not functioning properly. I regularly use the stationary bikes, and the heart rate monitors rarely work as expected.

Thank you for your attention to these matters—I’m hopeful to see improvements soon.

The welcoming staff makes this gym feel comfortable and clean. I'd like to thank the staff who man the front desk after 5 p.m—during thee (sp) cheerfully cleaned Holidays, Maisi due to the crew calling out sick. She even apologized, and her attitude is consistently upbeat. There is a bin clearly labeled 'trash' where she pulled a few towels out where guests mistakenly put them.

Overall, this is a GREAT gym.
Great machines and weights.
Many many yoga and pilates classes and more.
The staff are extremely nice and down to earth, easy to talk to.
It's mostly clean (hard to keep up with hundreds or thousands of people working out weekly).
The negative comments on this place are just angry and/or perfectionists.

I have been going to Bay Club SF for the last 5 years which has been awesome. Moved back to Marin and the difference is palpable. Corte Madera Bay Club needs more of a sense of community. I wish they had more cool events like the other locations. They also need more Barre, Zumba and intense/hot yoga classes. If their yoga was as challenging as corepower people would religiously go. It's an absolute shame considering how many people would love it. There should be 3 ignite classes before 8:30 am and more than three barre classes a week. Also, all of the other Bay Clubs are ok with you cominng into class late if your previous class overlapped and you are already familiar with the format. NOT HERE. I would rather drive to SF and take classes there and risk getting my car broken into.

The Bay Club raised membership dues at a laughable rate during my time as a member so I recently left. The leadership of this organization is totally focused on extracting as much money as possible from its members. It is really unpleasant contributing to a company that takes this approach. I'm sure a Bay Club employee will write a reply here asking me to reach out to them via email in a half-hearted attempt to "talk things out." There isn't any justification for increasing rates like they have other than greed. The capital improvements they are making don't come close to justifying it. Definitely find another gym!

I never leave reviews but people deserve to know what they are signing up for. I have been coming to the Marin bay club for years and honestly they have gone way down. It does not feel clean, the equipment is always faulty, broken, or dirty, and management is very unresponsive. This wouldn’t be an issue but considering how much the membership is and the fact that they continue to raise their prices (almost double since we joined) it just doesn’t make sense. There are forums online with other customers saying the same thing. It should be a breach of contract with how much they keep raising their rates. This doesn’t cover everything but if you live in the city I would definitely recommend a different gym. I only stay because we are limited with options in Marin. I really hope they stop raising their prices or at least improve their facility so it matches with what we pay.

Had to say goodbye to Bay Club after 7 years, and honestly, enough was enough. The customer service? Pretty much a nightmare. Imagine walking in and getting greeted by nothing but attitude at the reception - yeah, not the welcome you'd hope for. And let's talk about the place itself; it's just not up to snuff. We're talking about a gym where clean seems to be a foreign concept, and there's always a shortage of towels in the women's locker room,

Then there's the equipment situation - treadmills that are more often out of order than working, and don't even get me started on the basics they're missing, like straps that I asked for years. All this wouldn't sting as much if the membership fees weren't sky-high. But they are, and it just doesn't add up to good value or service. So, I'm out. Can't say I'd recommend it to anyone else, either.

I've been a member on / off for 8 years (taking time off for COVID) It feels like you sold your soul after COVID with the shared membership. Not only it's more crowded but the members are less considerate, leaving drinks, towels, weights everywhere. Not as pleasant experience. Plus the increase of teen membership. They confuse working out with socializing. You could have a teen hours like after school to 5 or 6
The overall cleanliness have gone downhill as well. Piles of dust under equipment, stacks of dirty towels overflowing the bins. ( granted I see the newer members use 5- 6 towels)
The staff have always been great ( even though there's a large turnover at the front counter - hard to get to know them personally)

Some good equipment, but items that are broken stay broken for weeks or months. Not very clean but with a large membership they keep it reasonable. Where they fall down completely is in customer service, billing and any human contact. If you need an ACTUAL PERSON to respond to you, good luck. Emails go unanswered, phone calls are ignored. If you get someone, it's a kid at the front desk that answers the line like he was just awakened from a party the night before. Seriously unprofessional and frustrating, so basically if everything is done at the app, you're ok, but if you should have any need of someone to answer a billing question, membership question or anything else, you're on your own.

UPDATE: Note the response to this review telling me to contact the person directly, which of course, I did, which of course they summarily ignored. That’s the MO - act personal, but do nothing for the customer. It’s like having a mega company like AT&T for a health club - if you fit into their product category you can get by, but if there’s any need for customer service you’re on your own. Oh, and they raised their rates.

They are super responsive when U are looking to join but never pick up the phone once U are a member. They also don’t communicate well and when they do communicate, it’s in generalities. PE at its finest. They take in the dough at our expense.

Todd, I’d love a call. Members of our team have tried the CM office number and no one picks up. It’s a real issue. I hear this from multiple members. It’s a problem and one the club needs to address. I had an issue with a trainer 6 mos ago and the same thing happened and the problem still hasn’t been addressed. In general, love the club but your customer service for paying members has much to be desired. I’m in sales and account management so I get it, unfortunately the BC doesn’t.

Welcome to the worst bay club in the Bay Area. The club is filthy, falling apart, and crowded with teenagers who treat it as a social hangout spot.

Over the past weeks, I've seen teens vaping and eating Chick-fil-A on the fitness floor, throwing shaving cream and shoving each other in the locker room, and wrestling in the stretching area. The club is so busy with teens staring at phones it's impossible to use equipment. When the Bay Club says it's a lifestyle experience they apparently meant life in a frathouse.

The weight room water fountain has been non-operational for months, lockers are literally hanging off hinges, and day-old coffee cups and dirty towels are left around. The timer in the sauna is ripped off the wall, as is the thermometer. And they raised prices twice this year.

I didn't want to leave a review: I emailed the club manager several times about concerns with zero response. I can only understand that to mean that members are unimportant to the Bay Club.

I've been a member here for over ten years but I am currently planning my exit. A good rule of thumb at this club is that things only get worse, not better. Tennis courts get removed, premium equipment like the Power Plate and the Open Stride ellipticals quietly get removed and never return, staffing gets thinner and thinner. The club doesn't respond to feedback -- there hasn't been a jumprope in this club big enough for anyone over 5'10" in two years. They pack so many people into classes that you can barely breathe. Club is owned by a private equity investor who is underwater so I guess that explains it. But it has been sad to see its demise over the last several years.

Generally a great gym. Solid amenities and the staff is very friendly. Lots of class options, areas to stretch, basketball, squash, lap pool and more. I take off 1 star for: lots of the locks on the lockers just don’t work, towels are not absorbent, and the teenagers can be a little annoying.

Was a member here back in high school so I have been on both sides of this equation. I understand marin is full of kids who are pretty privileged and I don’t mind them being there, but I don’t appreciate them congregating on the weight floor to basically just gossip and take weights that I could be using that just sit on the ground as they chat away about none sense.

I miss the way the Bay Club Marin use to be.

In the last few months, they have substantially increased out monthly fees and have left us with:

1. The elevator has not worked in weeks (which has placed a significant strain on clients how have mobility issues and cannot navigate the stairs)

2. Half of the lockers do not work and need to have their batteries replaced

3. The AC has not worked in weeks, and there are floor fans running

4. The state of the cardio machines are absolutely filthy

5. The towels have stains all over them; stains of all colors

The only positive thing I could say is the amazing customer services from the FRONT desk staff (only).

Yonit is a great trainer, the main attraction at BC, (and funny). She taught at TJ's in Corte Madera; $35/class ($420/mo) no extras or towels, just weights & a drinking fountain. BC is $265/month, pool, tennis, spa, etc. Club Evexia is $299/mo, beautiful, brand-new, A+ facilities, equipment, staff, group fitness with water view. Owners are local and super cool; they care about the business.

I called to make an appointment at the spa and waited 2 days for a return call but still heard nothing. Then today I walked into The Bay Club Marin and one of the guys working there said they shut the spa down on Friday without telling anyone. People lost their jobs and The Bay Club didn’t even bother to change the voice mail or call people back to let them know the Spa shut down. This is so unprofessional. This is what a fly by company would do which is just shut their doors overnight. This club has gone down hill! No customer service, flakey trainers and unresponsive to their members. Social happy hours in the summer seemed nice in the beginning, but not so much, really. I didn’t join to eat chips and drink lackluster wine mid-week. I can buy better drinks etc for much less. The Bay Club Marin pros: a very accommodating staff, clean facilities, and it's not too packed. Cons: if you want to cancel, they lock you in to a full month after cancellation. For example, if you want to cancel in April, you'll still have to pay for May and then your subscription will be up in June. Other cons are the squash quarts only being 2, and typically filled up between 8-10 a.m.
