About the Club

This fantastic club already boasts group exercise, aquatics, and tennis unrivaled by any gym or fitness club, along with fun-filled social and family programming. And we’ve transformed this property into the Bay Club’s third South Bay sports resort with a spectacular $20 million renovation!

We’ve completed a full locker room renovation and opened our brand-new 12,000-square-foot fitness atrium, along with our refreshed gymnasium that now accommodates basketball, volleyball, futsal, badminton, pickle ball, floor hockey, and more. And squash, a cornerstone of our Santa Clara community, is even better with the addition of two new courts, making this a 6-court squash center!

The amenities are amazing. Would leave a 5 star if they had hot water all the time. Other than hot water they have everything they claim to have.

The staff is really friendly and useful. Chris is a great manager and is flexible with many things to meet your needs. Make sure you ask for him

Edit: it has been 1 year and still no hot water. Even when it's just me in the showers and no one else is using. It has been consistently 80 deg max for about a month now. Have to change to 3 star

I am writing my review to help provide information for those who might be considering joining. My husband and I moved to the area and were looking for a nice health club with a good gym. We toured the Bay Club (Ryan I think? He was great) and decided to give it a go. It was a compromise (hugely lacking in equipment and needing some real TLC) but the tour was great so we went for it. Oops! Bad idea. My greatest criticism is the mould. The steam room (women’s) has black mould in the grout. I just couldn’t think about breathing that in :(. The sauna is thick in dust :( The showers are dirty, think cracked tiles, thick in limescale and mould again. It’s strange because the wonderful cleaning ladies are constantly hoovering and tidying, but I feel they are let down by those higher up at the Bay Club. Perhaps they aren’t allocated time nor resources to deal with the serious dirt (as in someone needs to take bleach and a steam cleaner to the whole shower block). They also clearly need someone just doing repairs and maintenance. Anyway, I am particularly finicky about mould. If you build a shower block/ steam knowing it will be used 12 hours a day 7 days a week, you need a plan in place for grout, tile, shower heads. It needs maintenance. Even just soak the shower heads and repair the tiles. Scrub the hinges with a toothbrush. Beyond the cleanliness (aside: this appears to be an issue across the Bay Club and stopped us joining previously), this club is seriously busy and whoever bought and spaced the equipment is lost. There are swathes of space that could be used in a really effective way (see spot where a single old reformer lives?). The sqft of this place is sooo amazing and this place could be unrivalled in the area. Otherwise the classes are good, very much enjoyed the yoga and meditation classes. Finally, it appears the Bay Club in general cannot afford to keep up with what this club needs. We were told that renovations had been postponed because resources were allocated otherwise. Yikes - especially when I see the portfolio is growing. Don’t get me wrong, staff are great. They do the best with what they have, but I will not return to a Bay Club :(

If the parking is full: pull over, go inside, ask for a printed sheet with visual pictures to look at and compare to effectively find the parking in the back.

If they don't have a map ready show this review to the management

This review is only for Annie who attends the evening body pump classes. 1 star because she's encouraged by the instructors. Will take it down if someone talks sense into her.

Annie is the worst. She always keeps yapping all throughout the classes. No one appreciates any of the noises or comments she makes. She's distracting and makes me miss what the instructor says. Annie please take a hint and shut your mouth!!

Cannot wait to leave this gym.

The members here are the worst- poor etiquette all around.
Members hog equipment while sitting on benches or blocks in their phones, parking lot is chaos with awful and inconsiderate drivers, unsightly behaviors such as loud phone usage with feet on table or people using hair dryers for everything but their heads!! For premium price, this place feels worse than planet fitness. I am going back to Equinox.

Bay Club Santa Clara has great facilities—the pool is excellent, the gym is clean, and the Body Pump classes are led by outstanding instructors like David, Peggie, Rebecca, and Brandy. Their energy, professionalism, and class structure are some of the best I’ve experienced.

However, the Body Pump classes have become very crowded, and without floor markings or any system to organize where participants set up, people cluster in certain spots while other areas go unused. This not only makes the classes uncomfortable but could also lead to injuries due to the lack of space during certain movements.

I reached out to Laurie Miner and the front desk with this feedback, hoping for a response or even an acknowledgment, but I haven’t heard anything back. For a premium club with high membership fees, the lack of communication from management is disappointing.

While I still value the instructors and class structure, the crowding issue and unresponsiveness from staff are enough to bring my experience down to 3 stars.

I've been coming her for years, it's been pretty good, but the pool lifeguards have been noticeably overbearing in recent months—even when it’s clear your kid can swim, having fun, they frequently come over to talk to the parents. Unless your child is swim-team level, be prepared to stay in the water with them the entire time, regardless of their actual ability.

Also disappointed that the family locker room shower had no hot water two days in a row last weekend. It’s frustrating when you can’t count on basic amenities. Hopefully this gets resolved soon.

The club itself is nice, but it's surprising how casually personal information is handled. IDs are recorded on paper and left out in the open, which doesn’t inspire much confidence in privacy practices. While it's understandable to verify identity, it's unclear why non-members’ ID numbers need to be retained.

When we politely asked if the information could be removed upon leaving—given that our visit was uneventful and the ID had already served its purpose—we were met with a dismissive response from a girl at the front desk (whose name sounds like Emon). The tone was passive aggressive, which stood out especially because the rest of the reception staff, including the manager, were friendly and reasonable.

It’s a shame that one person’s demeanor can shift the tone of an otherwise pleasant experience. She needs immediate hospitality training. Everyone has rough days, better keep it to yourself than giving your customer attitude.

The Bay Club has a lot of equipment and classes. I enjoy working out at Bay Club.

I just want to managers to know that the women’s locker room (showers, steam room, lounge area, drinking fountain) are very dirty and sometimes disgusting. Bay Club should spend more effort cleaning up the facility!

I’m at my wit’s end. Have complained about the cleanliness several times and nothing changes. Equipment is dirty and greasy, cleaning is spotty, carpets are dirty, cleaning wipes are not readily available, and members are not encouraged to wipe down. I work out at several different gyms due to work location, and I’d have to say, this Bay Club is “ratty”. Please do something!

I go there mainly for the steam room and sauna, but unfortunately, they are always either broken or dirty. A while ago, the steam room was out of order for almost two months, today also broken and so dirty with a bad smell and I was just paying extra for nothing. This club seems to focus more on raising prices rather than improving quality.

I’ve been a member of Bay Club for a while, but unfortunately, the experience has been getting worse. The gym is often overcrowded, making it difficult to find available equipment. In the women’s locker room, lockers frequently lock themselves, requiring staff assistance to open them, which is quite inconvenient. Additionally, the changing area is always packed, making it hard to find space. I hope management can address these issues to improve the overall experience.

Parking situation is getting worse and worse.
Today I parked my car in the lot during my visit. When I returned, I found another car parked so close to mine that I couldn't even open my door to get in. This was particularly frustrating because there were plenty of other parking spots available at the time.

While I understand that parking behavior is the responsibility of individual drivers, I believe Bay Club could improve the situation by encouraging better parking practices or adding clear guidelines to ensure members are considerate of others.

I hope management takes this feedback into account and implements measures to avoid such inconveniences in the future.

Bay Club Santa Clara is falling short in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, particularly in the sauna room. The wood has turned dark black, indicating it hasn’t been cleaned properly for about a year. Despite this, membership rates have increased three times within a year. Additionally, the club is becoming overcrowded, making it difficult to find parking, especially in the evenings.

A very underwhelming gym for the price ( which they keep increasing ALL THE TIME, over $500 increase in 1 year with literally NO significant changes to the gym)

The good:
- sauna and steam room is a nice luxury to have. Not many gyms in the Bay Area have this.

- if you value pickleball /swimming pool then you will like the facilities for this, they are big !

-multiple power racks for weight lifting. You don’t have your standard 2 racks that most gyms have so you can typically find one open in the morning.

- free coffee in the mornings is a nice perk! Great way to start the day after a workout

The bad :
- Gym Equipment: you get very standard and outdated weight lifting equipment for the price you pay. You will get your standard bench press, dumbbells, a couple of traditional machines and that’s it. No new modern machines that you see on YouTube now in days. all of the equipment is very underwhelming for a gym of this price. You will find MORE machines at a city sport for 80% of the price. It does not make sense.

- the buildings: the gym is divided into 2 major buildings. The area with the dumbbells and smith machine is very well lit, has windows, is clean, and just feels like a premium gym. The other building is old, shitty carpet, bad paint, and is where they basically threw all their shitty machines in. Since they separate half of the lifting machines this way, you have to cross from one building to another for some workouts which basically limits your ability to do power sets.
Again, for the price this is very underwhelming

- the hours: they open at 6 on weekdays and 8 on weekends. If you are someone that likes to workout early and make it to work on time, these hours are terrible.

-use of space: this will be highly biased and subjective b/c I don’t have kids but there’s a huge playground area that never gets used. I don’t know why they don’t use this space for fitness.

-staff don’t greet you, they seem unhappy to be there.

Overall I don’t see this worth the price for what it offers. Price increases without any significant changes to the gym leave a very bad taste in your mouth. They keep saying “exciting new projects” and literally see nothing significant to address these issues (other people in the reviews have stated the similar feedback for some time now).

Two stars for the outdoor pools and sauna but not sure if it’s worth the cost. They increase membership fees at least once a year. When we started here in 2022 we were paying half of what we are now in 2024. So membership fees have around doubled and the value is no longer what it was. If there were alternatives in the area we’d check out them out but this is the only facility of its type and that’s probably why they can charge what they do. Also very unwilling to work with federal and state service members regarding federal and state obligations (won’t freeze membership for deployments, months away from home, etc). This location doesn’t have any child care available at all (free or for a fee) so you won’t be able to come here with a young child while you workout or swim. Overall unimpressed with the customer service provided but there’s really no other option in the area. If you sign up here expect your fees to increase yearly at a minimum.

Update: going into January 2025 another $20 increase to the monthly membership dues per person. They released this information on December 18, two weeks before the update when they require a month out to cancel a membership. We’re out after this one.

Bayclub Santa Clara is a pretty gym and in a convenient location. Unfortunately, the pros end there.

Pros
Amenities
Convenient Location

Cons
Membership Fees
Lack of equipment
Non Ergonomical equipment placement

Bayclub is made to look pretty but not to excersise.

There is a severe shortage of equipment. I have seen people get their own weight lifting belts, pull up and dip chain, ab wheel rollout, micro plates etc. For a gym that charges this much these equipment MUST be available and not rely on patrons getting their own equipment.

Lack of pull up options. Again the pull up station is just pretty. If you need to use the pull up station you need another equipment to reach to the top, which 95% of the US population would need. Pull up bars on squat racks are unusable when bars are placed.

Squatting and deadlift options. Again they have 4 squat options which is both for sqaut and deadlift. This means that lot of times people deadlift on the blue walkway. (I don't blame them). When you have equipment that is made for looking good and not functional people use whatever they can.

Seperation of equipments. My god the gym separates equipment in separate rooms. Guess someone wanted a view of the pools while running. Due to this folks have to walk across the gym to use equipment. You CANNOT super set with this. Well atleast walking across the gym multiple times increases my step count.

Suggestions on improvement
1. Get more equipment especially weightlifting belts, micro plates, pull up belt etc

2. Harmozine the equipment. Stop seperating them across the gym. Either move the cardio equipment to other side or move the gym equipment to one side. That way folks don't have to going back and forth across the gym

3. Better pull up stations or just get a continuous squat rack which will increase the number of squat and deadlift positions and also have pull-ups bars in between.

UPDATE :
I should probably take one star away .
The club has been increasing dues every year and sometimes 2 times a year. This year the cost went up by more than 50%. That’s way higher than inflation!
And - I don’t see a single improvement for the facility . Except They added some
Gym equipment that most of the members don’t care about

2 stars goes to the facility . It’s great .
The staff is horrible when it comes to taking feedback or even just responding to an email or phone call ! They just don’t care .
If you want to reserve tennis courts , good luck with that . You will never ever find one in the evening . They let USTA reserved courts a year in advance and they take up ALL the courts all year round . It’s a joke that they charge us an arm and leg for the fee and give such horrible customer service . I am reconsidering my membershipy. I may just take my business somewhere else and so should you !

Bay Club Santa Clara needs to improve their indoor air quality, especially during peak usage hours in the Mind Body Studio and women's lounge.

The Mind Bidy Studio has no ventilation to the outside, the corner fan is super loud and outdated and it doesn't blow the air out at all !
It's dreadful to cramp classes in this small studio with poor quality air and loud adjacent West Side speaker's noise!!

I felt bad for the hard working instructors who had to teach under such lousy condition.

Hope the management could install new AC/heater, a fan , and a microphone headset for instructor.

It's an expensive club, but it's worth the price if you really love sports and fitness. The instructors are actually all really good and professional. I am actually surprised, in a good way, how good the instructors are. It's not normal for a gym to have good instructors for different disciplines, but this place seems different... gym equipment and facilities have spin bike from 2017 (and were left outdoor during the pandemic for a couple of years so are all half broken). Overall place is rather crowded but I guess is normal for Silicon Valley.

Not a fan of this organization or this club. I’ve been a member on and off since it was the Decathlon Club and since, over the many years, it’s been part of Bay Clubs it’s gone downhill. The lockers got worse, the hot tub went away in a redesign, and it seemed like it was half-completed under construction all the while I was paying full dues for a partial facility but thanked for my patience. The new pool they put a few years ago is quite nice. Parking is tight.

Worst of all when I eventually wanted to cancel they played games with billing cycles, effective days and such result in me being asked for pay for 55 days more after my cancellation request was finally processed (a delay they helped introduce). Unethical policies from a business model that thrives on memberships that go unused and making them hard to cancel.

We chose the Bay Club to play pickleball with 4 teams from work as a team builder. The folks who worked here were super friendly and fun! Our instructors were great at teaching newbies the rules of the game and they made the whole experience fun. Worst bayclub I ever been to. most of the front desk staff is pretty rude and lack customer service.  They (the front desk staff) rarely displayed a welcoming demeanor. I dealt with Sarah blue eyes blonde short hair and she kind of came off rude and a little over aggressive when trying to notify me about my membership. she told me membership called and left a voice-mail that I never received and gave me false information in regards to speaking with membership service. I didn't really appreciate the tone she used and the lack of help that she gave. Not sure if it was the color of my skin or if she was having a bad day but she literally watched me as I came inside to scan. She watched me so much she didn't even look at the other person that scanned ahead of me. Bay clubs cost way too much as is, but no one should pay those prices for rude service like that. 1. Major hazardous indoor stale air alert, especially in the evening!!!
2. Poor cleaning in women's lounge, with towels and trash thrown everywhere.
3. Many broken hand-held showers wasting lots of water from broken pipes.

Last Monday evening, the yoga studio was in a dreadful situation... with a room full of members cramped in a small studio, it was very hot with stuffy/stale air. Besides, the loud speaker music/noise from the adjacent West Side classes totally interfered with the yoga class's tranquility.

Really hope the management would address the above problems. After all, it is a beautiful facility. I hope things would be better with improved management, so members would not suffer.

Ok, I decide to write a long review for you since you would like to discuss the customer's concerns via google review.
I was disappointed to give a one-star rating due to the inattentive service. When I attempted to cancel my membership, I had offered constructive feedback and suggestions for improvements, such as addressing the crowded conditions and limited parking, but, there was no acknowledgment of my concerns. I received no response for more than 10 days until I sent another follow up email. Communication was only re-established when I received a call informing me that my membership had been canceled, without any formal email or notification.

And I was submitted all the necessary information well before the billing date, but it seems not working, I was charged for another extra month because they only replied to me after the billing statement date. I would understand you charged for another month per your policy but this extra two-month charges was due to your delay of response.

Unwelcome services: the initial impression during the membership sign-up process was friendly and welcoming, but the experience afterward was quite the opposite. Some staff would ask me to scan my member barcode twice or request to see my face for verification because they were talking to someone else they just didn't pay attention. Regrettably, the front desk staff rarely displayed a welcoming demeanor.

Overall, I am disheartened by the unsatisfactory service and lack of responsiveness at this place.

This branch has the WORST customer service. We initiated contact to cancel our membership in August. Months later and we are still getting charged. Based on the communication logs they keep (which only show when they respond to your communication, not when you initiate contact) there are weeks long lapses in which you cannot get anyone to reply to you. When you go in you are told to email. When you email you get no response. They accept no ownership and are not apologetic in the slightest - in other words, they make no effort at customer service. I would never recommend anyone join this Bay Club after the experience we have had.

Have enjoyed the fitness classes and renovated facilities in the past two months. The stars are for the super fun super positive class instructors.

However today when I was using their shower room, the hot water was suddenly gone (completely cold water only), when I was covered by soap and shampoo unfortunately. I asked other people around and all showers were out of hot water. Without seeing any staff in the locker room that could help, we had to wait in wet until the hot water came back after a long time. But it was back for only 5 minutes and gone again. Eventually I had to finish the shower in complete cold water (it’s not a warm day today and now I kind feel a headache).

No staff from the gym helped with the situation at all, nor they even noticed it. I told the front desk (2 people there) when I walked out, but they didn’t do anything or call any technician to check the hot water system. They just standing there said “You’re welcome. We’ll let the management know”. Not sure what they meant by “you’re welcome”, but obviously they didn’t feel sorry nor apologetic to give their customers a big cold shock.

——————————-
Adding something new about the front deck: I scanned my bar code and got in the gym normally today. But didn’t walk far, the front desk girl yelled at me and asked me to stop. When I turned around, she just questioned if the Asian man walking behind was together with me (I’m Asian too). I don’t know that guy at all, and was not aware of anyone behind me. If he got in without scanning his bar code, shouldn’t the front desk yell and stop him?? Why they didn’t question the white lady right before me if she’s with that guy? Such rude front desk and likely very racist.

Classes- HORRIBLE classes arrangements. Not many classes comparing to Fremont’s campus.
They are good giving excuses.
Unqualified yoga instructors. The Chinese non English speaker female instructor likes to show off. Do they know the meaning of teaching?

Layout- large campus with extreme lousy indoor layout. It is still in the 70’s construction configuration.

No food / beverage station like other Bay Clubs

I come to this club 3 times a week, for other times, I go to the redwood shore one.
The basketball court is way too busy compared with other location, there are almost 30 people there waiting on Wed and Fri evening, which make the experience so bad.

Besides the basketball court, the workout area is so crowded.

I don’t quite understand the schedule of this location, if they can close at 10pm, the experience can be improved a ton. 9 pm is a joke for a club that has so many active members. Come on bay club Santa Clara.

Well, ya see, I'm not saying that I've been everywhere and I've done everything, but I do know it's a pretty amazing world we live on here, and a man would have to be some kind of fool to think we're alone in this gym.

The pain you feel today will be the strength you feel tomorrow. Later = Never, do it now 💪

❤️ The Bay Club and all they've done to accommodate outdoor workouts...this place is ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Best selection of classes in the area. Group membership rates are as low as half the regular rate if six people (max) are in the group. Lots of activities: swimming, tennis, squash, hoops, table tennis. Large locker rooms.

Many classes are held in a carpeted area that is poorly-ventilated and too hot. BC's uncertain future prevents it from doing renovations.

This BC has neither child care nor a cafe.

Update 2022 April:
After being a new member for 3 months so far, I finally reserved a tennis court to practice with the ball machine. Everything was good until I saw on the bay club connect app that there is a $25 no show fee charge (I was like what???).

The next time I went to bay club and talked to the front-desk people and only at that moment I was informed that you need to check-in by words with them for tennis. Scanning barcode isn't enough. So what's the whole point of the barcode? There is no warning when you book a court on the app, there is no warning from the front desk people after you scan barcode, there is nothing except a no show charge.

2022 March
Didn’t feel comfortable at the gym. One gym cleaning guy kept looking at me, and even came in and judged my body shape while I was doing workout alone.

How in TF is this place a luxury club?! There is nothing luxurious about it. Nothing is ever where it is supposed to be here. I was approached twice today by people who couldn't find weight and needed to use mine. This does not make my workout pleasant. I have complained twice about nothing being where it should be. Nothing has improved. I've been to other luxury clubs whose floor is much tidier and the employees are actually visible and engaging with the members. This place needs to step it up.

Weekends are great but week day commuters fill the parking lot and amenities, to keep from sitting in traffic. They get a workout and a private shower, they also have private family showers. It starts to calm down after the carpool lane ends. It really is like going on a vacation. Two pools, one for families and a larger one for serious lappers, surrounded by individual couples cabanas. I don't use everything they have to offer, best to stop by and take a tour. Other things; in door basketball court, squash courts, several outdoor tennis courts, shaded by large Redwood trees, weight room, treadmills, speed bags and punching bags, a spin room, and still adding amenities. And if you have any muscle pain there is an onsite physical therapist Roberto, who helped me workout a shoulder injury. Great place! Great people! Easy to talk to.

1. Not clean, mold and dirt in the locker room and the swimming pool 2. For what I paid I was hoping for a less crowded gym, but It becomes more and more crowded since they started shared membership, I always have to wait for a long time for the swimming pool, and during busy hours there are so many people inside the whirlpool that socially distance is a joke. 3. One front desk staff was super condescending 4. After I joined they gave me a complimentary personal training class saying it is a gift to all new members, but when I made time for it and attended, it is just one trainer sitting down with you persuading you buying classes without any real experience. Very very disappointed and felt like I was tricked. 5. Stop membership is very difficult, I followed the process to fill in forms and no response, then I emailed the director of membership and still no response for 2 weeks. I got angry and escalated to all managements I can find online and finally got membership stopped. But there is a stupid one month wait, so I request to stop in January and will pay until March 1st. Come on you are not an apartment, it doesn’t make any sense to wait. Super super disappointed in the whole experience.

Disappointed about the booking system for tennis. Need the highest level of membership to book 5 day in advance and get the ball machine reserved or 'in demand' convenient hours court reservation. With my 3 day in advance booking access, ... quite challenging and need to set alarms and book within 10min as the timeslot opens to get a chance.
The sad thing is that there is no enforcement to check if people indeed show up and use the court, so I do not see it changing any time soon unless you pay premium membership (Golf level).
Pools are great!!
Classes have much less choices and levels than before Covid era, especially yoga, however I like those and I have managed to attend them even though they also get booked full on the app.
Bottom line, great environment and facility (inside reparation/renovation has not made progress for 18 months) but too many members making access challenging at comparatively speaking a high membership rate.

Today before closing time, the cleaning lady went to the women’s changing room and heavily pushed every shower room’s door, shouted we are closed to force people in shower getting out. Several people went panicked thinking there is some emergency, For the expensive membership fee we paid, we shouldn’t be treated so rude.
