Love this gym but they close out of nowhere completely throwing me off and saying online that they’re open

I wish I could give this gym a negative rating. Don’t be fooled by the 5-star reviews — many seem manipulated by the owner. The environment here is stressful, unprofessional, and far from welcoming. Interactions with the staff, especially under Michael Hecht’s management, have been uncomfortable and disappointing.
Don't waste your money, here. They are just taking as much as they can before another gym comes in. I hope this place improves its professionalism and customer care — members deserve much better.

Been going here for years and just had to leave a review because it's a consistent problem.
Please turn on the AC! It is 80 degrees out and the humidity is 100% (it is actually raining). No one wants to exercise outside right now. Stop being cheap and turn on the AC. Thank you!

I’m conflicted because this gym has good to fair equipment, studio space, class offerings and amenities. and if their schedule works for you, and you use it regularly this place offers a sweet deal as likely one of the most affordable gyms in San Diego! and for that reason I give at least 3 stars. But I had to cancel my membership today due to change of financial circumstances and also the fact I haven’t used the membership as much as I thought I could. and so I had to interact with the owner for the first time today who was rather unfriendly. What rubbed me wrong is that the owner took my membership card and then after the fact told me that I still have to pay for a whole other month of membership because their policy says you have to give a 30 day notice to cancel. So basically if you want to cancel you need to cancel on the day you get charged. Just watch out for stuff like that.

Loved this place! I'm a gym owner myself, as well as a recreationally competitive Powerlifter. I also use various machines in my program for my accessories. I was visiting from out of town and found this place online and got a week pass for a great price. They have a ton of free weights, some squat racks, a smith machine, and several benches, as well as plenty of resistance and cardio machines. Even when it was crowded, it was very easy to politely ask folks if I could work in with them and share. They have a policy of inclusion and don't tolerate hateful or rude behavior of any kind, which I very much appreciate because gyms can be kinda toxic and weird sometimes, especially in SoCal. But this place is rad. They had athletes of all shapes and ages, super friendly vibe, and had everything I needed to get a pump. I can't remember if they have a deadlift platform because I didn't need one the days I was there, but they had everything else I needed for my Powerlifting/Bodybuilding program. Will 100% be back when I visit again!

Great local gym! We were staying in the neighborhood for a week and got a really affordable week-long temporary membership. All of the staff and members were very friendly and welcoming. The gym is clean, well-maintained, and had everything I needed to stay on track with my training. Highly recommend for both visitors and locals.

A quiet and focused place. No instagram fitfluencers here, just people looking to pump iron and get swole. Nobody’s gonna talk to you, you’ll be able to get whatever machine or weight you’re looking for in a timely manner. This is gym heaven, and there ain’t no frills in gym heaven.
Also seems like there’s a number of good class options for older folks, and definitely a significant population of older folks in attendance. Works for me, and seems to work for them.

The owner of this place is a joke .. Be careful when canceling your membership here. You “think” you canceled but will find out a few months later when a $300 collection account shows up on your credit report. I’m not the only on the has happened to either here

I like the location and convivence and most people are nice. My biggest complaint is sometimes it is impossible to get on a machine because way too many people are busy staring at their phones. They do 4 reps then stare at their phones for 10 min. Total waste of time. Grow up, get off the phone and get a workout in. Other people are here too, not just you and your phone. Honestly thinking of cancelling because of this.

I’ve been going here for a couple years and last week they removed the only regular drinking fountain. I asked staff why and they said they didn’t know. They said there’s no plans to replace it either. I’ve NEVER been to a gym that didn’t have at least 1 regular drinking fountain

I’m writing this review on behalf of my elderly mother who was a member of this gym through Kaiser’s silver and fit program. The owner was constantly rude and condescending to her which made her feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. She recently switched to the silver and fit program at the Y and is so happy. I find it disgusting to hear she was treated this way.

Small gym with limited machines usually taken by the older crowd just talking to each other so you’re constantly waiting on machines. No AC and horrible locker rooms

The owner of this gym was incredibly rude, my friend called about charges on his bank account from ex-wife who passed away two years ago and just recently started to get charged (3 months). He claimed she never canceled- she passed two years ago and just recently started getting charges. He refused to refund and was incredibly abrupt, rude and insensitive. I cannot believe how he spoke and treated my friend, He will be reaching out to BBB.
That whole conversation I overheard and I'm disgusted. Do not do business with this gym.

Very out of my character to leave a bad review but the ownership of this place is the worst thing for people trying to improve health.
I moved into the neighborhood and thought it would be nice to have a gym I could run to. I have other gym memberships. The owner just seems annoyed that you actually come to the gym. Also told me that someone would come inside and steal my triathlon bike the one time I stored it inside. Just a heads up.
I believe fitness should be fun and this was a fun sponge 🧽.....all good just wish I had a better experience because so much potential to make people stoked about fitness and health.

Going to gyms can be stressful enough as is, well to add to that stress is the man who runs this gym.
I had a number of bad experiences with the owner of this gym, that having spent as much time as I have working inside of gym atmospheres, seemed completely unprofessional and the opposite of how you expect gym staff to treat you.
My husband and I have been coming here for 5 years and every single time I come to this gym & the owner is at the front, I get stopped for something to the point of which it has felt like he's harassing me, and often times I get anxiety to come to this gym on the chance the owner is at the front and I end up working out at home to avoid interaction with him.
One of the times I came in, I forgot my scan card but had my ID. This was the first time I had ever forgotten my scan card.
The owner acted like it was the biggest deal that I didnt have my card. I explained to him that I just forgot my card at home and he proceeded to tell me anyways that next time "I don't have it" theyre going to charge me for a new one.
He proceeded to insist that I needed to take a picture for my file, I told him I wasn't comfortable taking a picture because I had no makeup on and he wanted me to take off my hat (I have bangs and they were totally messed up under the hat), he said theyre taking pictures for all members and it was required I take one.
The next time I come into the gym while I'm on my lunch break & the owner is at the front desk, I scan my card and he stops me asking me to scan again. He proceeds to question my identity. I asked if there was an issue with my card or payment, he didn't answer, I proceed to tell him that my husband pays for our memberships which he IMMEDIATELY jumps on me for, accusing me that I'm using someone else's scan card, to which I have to clarify that this is my scan card, we have 2 separate memberships and offered to show him my drivers license.
He asks me to come around and look at the picture on my file and asks me if thats me in the picture.
Essentially he just told me that I look so ugly in the picture he took without my consent that he didnt believe I was the same person. I was so uncomfortable in this situation and so offended that he was making me feel bad about how I looked in the picture I didnt want to take, not to mention the inconvenience.
This proceeding took about 5 minutes of back and forth which was extremely uncomfortable.
That same time he brought up personal training and that I had some sessions still. I told him I was on my lunch break and wanted to quickly work out and run.
I had purchased personal training with KD pre-pandemic and never completed it due to the pandemic.
When I went back to the gym in 2020 I was told that shes not back to work yet and they dont know when she will be.
Training slipped my mind and I was working out at home mostly.
These are only a few of the awkward and uncomfortable interactions I've had with him.
My last straw was at the gym today, I asked about my remaining personal training and his immediate response was, "Oh its been 3 years, your training expired after 6 months from purchase"
I tried to explain that my training got cut off in the middle of the pandemic and the trainer I had been seeing didn't come back and I was waiting for her to potentially come back and time slipped by. His response continued to be rude and short telling me I shouldve known there was an expiration and that sucks for me.
He had no interest or consideration to have a conversation or be gentle about telling me that I lose tons of money on training I never received.
My husband came up and asked if we could have a conversation and he proceeded to stay seated in his office and say, "sure" not getting up or telling us to come in and proceeded to yell from his desk that my training expired. He continued to be short and rude and nothing was resolved.
Edit: to respond, he lies in his responses to reviews to make the reviewer look bad. Just goes to show what kind of person he is.

As a business owner myself, I completely understand the challenges and frustrations we face this day and age. But never is it right to direct our frustrations and paranoia onto customers - especially the ones who have been loyal and supportive throughout the pandemic. My wife and I have been members of this gym for 5 years but rarely even visit. We've given the most and taken the least.
Long story short - my wife noticed a pattern of bad interactions with the owner. The nail in the coffin was that she had purchased 20 personal training sessions before the gym closed for the pandemic and was not able to use them. The owner pointed to the fact that in the contract we recognize that the training expires 6 months after purchase.
I generally find myself to be a very diplomatic and understanding type of person. But when I approached the owner to come to a reasonable understanding, I was immediately met with a cold & short tempered response that boiled down to "too bad, should have read the fine print".
There was no conversation to be had and no interest in the thousand+ dollars of services that we paid for. Not an ounce of understanding or empathy.
This man then has the audacity call us after canceling to grill us on only being members since 2021. We were enrolled through our health insurance prior. It's like he wanted to find a "gotcha" moment. This man's paranoia and bad-faith assumptions of people will be the downfall of this gym.

I updated my review from last time, due to the wonderful service of Amanda. I hope the owner sees this, because Amanda took the time to make sure I felt comfortable working out here after someone made me feel uncomfortable.

Decent gym, BUT THEIR AC HAS BEEN OUT FOR MONTHS. When I asked when it would be fixed they literally said they don't know and were like we are ordering more fans though... that doesnt solve the problem guys, especially in this heat wave. They need to prioritize getting a new AC in over everything else. I'm considering cancelling my membership for this reason... with no end in sight for any sort of central AC, and the fact that they don't care...what's the point in staying if I'm sweating everywhere and making the gym dirtier? :(

The owner is greedy, and unprofessional. I wish I could give negative stars. Just look at the way they responded to a recent review of one star: "Thank you for the kind words, unfortunately not true." A sarcastic response to a review, is a pretty good demonstration of unprofessionalism of these people. I am going to provide the details and the evidence of their greed and unprofessionalism. Let's see if they can call my details "not true"

Been a member of this gym for a few years now. I've had plenty of experience in other gyms but this one I'm proud to call my own. Between my rock star trainer Nick, the friendly staff, and a gathering of great regular members - I always look forward to heading in. They have been working really hard lately to revise and replace some of the older equipment for those who were concerned about dated machines.

Awesome gym!! I've been to many fitness centers over the years and this one really stands out to me . Its a nice environment...the staff and members are very friendly. Not a typical meat-head gym. My girlfriend loves the group classes here. Zumba and yoga just are not my thing though lol. I stick to the free weights and cardio equipment. The hours are very convenient too. I think they open really early 5am and close at 10pm on most nights

This is a pretty small gym with older equipment - that being said, they have everything you need to get a great workout. Squat rack, kettleballs, assisted dip/pull up and plain/dip pullup, bench press, etc etc. There are a lot of weight machines as well, but I can't list them as I do mostly free weights. Room for cardio equipment too. Inexpensive, very casual atmosphere. No bouncy anorexic gym bunnies or meatheads (though there are plenty of hella fit men and women), just a lot of locals there for a good workout.
The classes range from small to busy, but since it's a small gym you still end up getting a lot of individual attention. They are taught by real people who are older and wear tshirt but could run circles around you (or at least me).
I really like this place. Inexpensive, minimalist, very cool atmosphere. Clean but old. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, too. Only thing I would change is to have one or two spinning bikes.
