I have been doing 1 on 1 sessions with Chris at Body Evolutions for several years now. I am 75 years old and I have the usual arthritis that come with age. If I had not found out about Pilates years ago I'm sure I could not have remained as active as I am today. I hike, I dance in an active performing dance troupe, I play Taiko drums and I go on active travel adventures at least four times a year. Chris has helped me stay limber and have a strong core that has saved me a few times from physical injury. I am sure I will never give up my sessions. Thank you Chris and Sonia for keeping me moving!

I have been taking Pilates lessons from Sonia for a few years now and I couldn’t be happier to have made the best investment for my body. Sonia is a highly experienced and certified Pilates trainer and a professional ballroom dancer who has a deep understanding of human anatomy and body movement. Diagnosed with cervical and trapezius injury with severely reduced range of motion, my treatment plan included acupuncture, cortisone shots and high doses of anti-inflammatory drugs which provided temporary relief but with long-lasting side-effects. I reached out to Sonia as I wanted to explore natural healing methods that were sustainable and kind to my body, while building and improving my strength, flexibility and overall fitness.
Sonia is extremely kind and patient. She listens. She invests the time and the effort to learn about your abilities/limitations. She built a personalized set of basic & repeatable routines for me to practice both in the studio and at home. Our initial sessions were focused on simple and targeted movements creating greater body awareness. With Sonia’s continued guidance, I have developed a greater mind-body connection, largely healed from my injury, grown stronger and graduated to a level I never imagined possible without further medical intervention. I *highly* recommend Body Evolutions Pilates Studio! I've been a client of Body Evolutions for over 18 years and have worked with Sonia for private lessons, duet lessons, reformer classes and even virtual lessons during Covid. Sonia has an amazing knowledge of musculature and body mechanics that she uses in all of her training.

Eighteen years ago I was in my late 20’s and had spent the past decade in a state of near constant back pain. I'd seen various medical professionals including doctors, physiatrists, chiropractors, orthopedic surgeons, and acupuncturists but none was able to provide lasting pain relief. I was regularly throwing my back out, had chronic back pain, and was unable to lift more than 10 lbs without my low back aching. I was told by one orthopedic surgeon after reviewing my MRI’s that I had the spine of a 70 year old (collapsed discs), that I would likely always have pain, and that pilates “might” help a little. I decided to give Pilates with Sonia a try at the recommendation of a friend from work.

When I started working with Sonia, we began with private lessons. She evaluated my body, the way I moved, and how she thought she could help me. She began working with me, teaching me the techniques and focusing on careful precise movements using specific muscles. Once I learned those techniques I was able to take the classes and feel confident that I was doing the exercises correctly so that I would not injure my back. I saw marked improvements in my low back pain, my flexibility, and my overall physical fitness. Over the years she helped me understand my body better, got me past my era of chronic pain, and brought me to the point where I now feel strong and fit and can move confidently without fear of reinjury. I’m now 48 years old and I no longer have back pain - AT ALL.

But Body Evolutions is not just about rehab. My point is that no matter where you are in your journey, whether you have physical problems or whether you’re fit and looking for a challenge to take you to the next level, Body Evolutions will get you where you want to go.

I also recommend that if you’re planning to take classes, do at least a couple of private lessons first - you'll learn techniques that will help you get the most out of group classes.

I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with Sonia and Chris at Body Evolution. A true novice to Pilates when I showed up, I felt welcomed from the beginning… both are genuinely supportive. I have been a client of Sonia's for years. I am always in awe of how Sonia is able to isolate and demonstrate engaging very specific muscles in her own body. I started having issues with my joints recently and wanted to start a regular exercise routine. I never tried pilates before but this studio had amazing reviews, so I gave it a shot.
Sonia has been a great teacher in my pilates journey. My joint pains are gone. The chronic pain I had with my shoulder and neck got significantly improved after I started pilates. Starting sessions with her was one of the best decisions I made in 2024. I wish she stays with me for a long time!

I have took Sonia’s gyro class for around two years, from time to time, we also switch to Pilates class depends on what I need. Sonia is the most professional, caring and warm-hearted instructor I have met, I’m so lucky that she is the one who lead me to the gyro’s world. She is not only highly knowledgeable and professional but also deeply passionate about helping each student improve. The workouts are challenging yet enjoyable, and I’ve noticed significant improvements in my flexibility, strength, and posture. My lower back pain, neck discomfort and hip weakness have been fixed a lot because of her classes. She is also really patient, she will guide me to do movements step by step, also correct me anytime I need, every time I felt I’m two inches taller after her class!

When I first met Sonia, it was due to my curiosity of the studio name. I was already doing business close by and finally stopped in for more information. That was nine years ago. At that time, I thought I was meeting an immediate goal of strengthening my core; maybe lose a few pounds. I’ve moved from the Bay area and miss Sonia and Chris, in every way! After 1-2 classes, I felt myself with better posture driving. I found myself sitting straighter and more aware of my body. After (and before) fifteen years, Pilates is a part of my life and well being. I owe so much to Sonia, from my very beginning. Both Sonia and Chris are excellent teachers. I still self correct because Sonia is ‘in my ear’ I am so blessed at 72 to be strong, balanced, capable, and able, to keep learning!

Sonia was introduced to me by my friend when I had a severe back pain after having my first child. It was so bad that my husband thought I was in greater pain than when I was in labor. Through her gentle and detailed sessions, Sonia gave me back my normal life and more strength to prepare for welcoming one more child. I have enjoyed the Gyrokinesis classes for three reasons:
1. The instructor, Sonia, built up every movement gradually. The intensity was increased steps by steps so I always felt "doable".
2. Sonia varied the similar movement in sessions. There were many ways to stretch a part of body so the class was not "routine" or boring.
3. Sonia has been paying attention to students' practice, even in on-line classes, so we learned the movement correctly.

OMG! What a wonderful experience! This is my second time at the studio and what a blast! Sonia our instructor was not only very patient but also very knowledgeable. She helped guide three of us newbies on proper technique, posture and breathing. I’m not a good breather I have asthma as well as the giggles. As a Bikram yoga devotee I haven’t yet found a Pilates studio that I like well enough to commit to a regular practice in my area of San Diego. If you are lucky enough to live in San Jose, run don’t walk to this studio and sign up with Sonia!

I am not new to Gyrotonics, but I was new to Sonia until yesterday. She was very welcoming to this out-of-towner, but she got me going gently, and in an unassuming way. She is amazing - she could see the difference when I was “lifting” my ear towards the ceiling - who knew!
