I’m no longer a member here but wanted to leave a review. About a week ago I was pretty upset when I saw I’d still been getting charged monthly for my membership even though I canceled in January due to switching gyms. I contacted ABC billing or whatever BX uses and forwarded them my cancellation request confirmation email. They said they couldn’t do anything because the gym never actually canceled my membership. I then forwarded the email to BX concierge service to air out my grievances and received a call yesterday. I don’t remember the name of the lady I talked to but she apologized for the hassle and said it was due to a glitch in the system. She said my cancellation never went through fully and sent me an email confirming my cancellation and refund.

Everyone makes mistakes and all businesses and software can have issues but I am impressed by the customer service reaching out to me and making it right. Me switching gyms had nothing to do with BX just a personal choice for a gym that fits me better but again, thankful for them making it right and it reflects well on how they reconcile issues.

The machines are well maintained, the people there are awesome, and the service from staff is incredible. This gym is an amazing gym to try out a bit of everything. They have a good amount of machines, free weights, and cardio equipment. The locker room is clean, and everything is functional. I'd give this gym a try especially if you're in the area. Terrible terrible terrible cancelled 3 times and they keep charging me after I paid balance once they take forever tk process cancelation then charge you again ans day account was closed because you $9 dollars, unfortunately you must pay fee to close and you will be charged till paid off. Total scam will never use them again and telling everyone corporate employee this place is a scam. The you try and call they won’t talk over the phone and you phone system has you on hold forever.

This place doesn't even deserve the one star. Last week, I went to workout with my niece, my sister n law and a family friend- all members of body exchange. I wasn't even greeted, I asked if I were able to pay for a pass for the day and they told me no. I then asked about a free pass, and was told that I could because I already had pass, (which was over a year ago). I asked what was the membership promotion, the two morning front desk ladies, were very rude, they said they didn't do memberships. Ryan, said that I would have to go online and look for myself. They would only be able to help me if I went online and purchased a membership then I could receive their help.
Ive worked in the fitness industry for some years now, and this experience by far was the worse. I feel as tho, I was discriminated against. I was the only Black female in the gym. There is no way possible for me to come into gym with family and not been able to workout. I literally had go sit outside and wait for everyone to finish their workout. After this experience, why would I give my money to a company that only treats people right if they are members, if they even do that? this is very disappointing for Bakersfield to have a gym like this olive location. Thank God, Im not new to fitness, or have reservations about the gym, or seriously struggling with my mental health.

The two girls at the front desk weren’t knowledgeable about prices or processes. One said she was a supervisor. Haley kept quoting different numbers for the sign up fee. They told me that they only issued a guest pass to certain people if they want a membership. Needless to say, they didn’t I didn’t workout. I wouldn’t free comfortable spending my money with them after having seeing them pull out a calculator and not know the prices for membership sign ups. Covid should have your customer service on point, considering all the memberships lost and club closures.

My husband's account was transferred to this gym when Fitness 19 closed. Apparently, they have been charging him plus an "additional member", which would have been me. First, I have not been on my husband's account for years. I have been removed years ago. Matter of fact, I had not stepped foot in a Fitness 19 nor this gym for years. He did not give any permission for me to be added back on to the account. Yet the man who claimed to be the General Manager refused to acknowledge this and refused to give him a refund. He had terrible communication skills, was unbending, without factoring that my husband has been a long time member of the previous gym--talk about a Customer Service fail, even claiming corporate office does not have any form of contact number or email address. This gym needs to update their website streamline the information they give out between their sales reps. Their website offers a 7 day trial which they are no longer willing to uphold. I got 3 different answers from different sales reps about their trial offerings and no one made time to speak to me while I was waiting to speak with someone. The person at the counter let me have a 3 day trial pass, so I went in and used the equipment which was in good shape and the other customers were all very nice and friendly. Later I got a call asking if I had ever come in, they said I shouldn’t have been given a trial, and I needed to come in the next day to immediately sign up. I’m going to join a different gym for the summer because of all the back and forth.

They dont allow me to use my electronic membership card (Samsung pay app). I have using it for almost 2 years without an issue. Today I was told by them that I need to carry the plastic membership card. No explanation, no reason, no apologies. Came on guys, it is 2021. I believe I am canceling my membership.

I have been a member over five years at this gym and love it. The location is fantastic and handy to my neighborhood. The variety of machines and cardio offered is fantastic. All ages are welcomed and there is a variety of fitness levels present. The staff is always friendly, professional, and willing to help with any issues or questions. In my 5+ years I’ve seen many of the staff come and go but one sticks out in my mind in particular. Jared has been there faithfully as an outstanding, knowledgeable employee. He, as a hard worker, is always there with a friendly greeting and a helpful hand. I appreciate when owners hire well and it reflects great on their establishment. I would highly recommend Body Xchange on Olive Dr for a great gym experience.

I cancelled my account right before COVID hit and come to find out they have been continuously charging me every single month since my cancellation. Fraudulent and petty over $50! They took over for Fitness 19. They received a cancellation request but still had the gall to charge an annual fee AND membership fee for March. Did you forget that the Governor closed non-essential businesses on March 16th? Explained the situation and was given this recourse; no refund for annual fee and to get March's month dues back they can extend benefits to a gym we don't even use. I am very disappointed with Body Xchange...
I tried to cancel my membership by email in March and was told all offices are closed because of COVID-19 but all membership billing was frozen.
I was never informed that the gym had re-opened and only found out because I saw a charge on my bank account. I went to see how they were handling social distancing and noticed no one wearing a mask, no one wiping equipment, and no one social distancing. I asked the clerk at the front how it was that they considered the operations safe and he told me they were doing cleaning every few hours and requiring people to wear masks when entering and exiting at areas of high traffic. Just then, someone came out through to the door with no mask. I asked the clerk how come he did not say anything and he said they did not actually request but, instead, recommend that people wear masks. I decided to cancel my membership before they charged me for the other membership I had for my son. Days after I requested the cancellation, I got one more bill and then 2 more (for the "annual service fee"). I called to request a refund but was told anything after 15 days after a cancellation request is fair game for them to request fees. I complained that I had requested a cancellation back in March and was denied it and I had not even been notified that the gym was re-open until I saw the membership charges. The response was, essentially, that's too bad and no refund would be provided.
I went back to look at my email to make sure I did not miss any notices about the gym re-opening and found nothing. I called again to request a refund and say no notification was provided about the gym re-opening and offered to send my email requesting cancellation back in March. No luck again.
$120 is not going to send me to bankruptcy but it might make a big difference to someone in more dire straits AND, it is simply wrong for them to charge me for a service I am not even aware is available to me.
I know they must have been hit badly by the closures but the way they went about charging and not notifying is disreputable and unacceptable.
I also suspect I am not the only one with the same issue...
I discourage anyone from signing up for Body Xchange.
