We were visiting the area and my daughter wanted to try climbing after having a great time on the climbing wall at a pumpkin patch. We went to Boulderdash on a Monday afternoon when they have a couple of kidsβ sessions. My daughter had an amazing time. The staff were all friendly, encouraging and helpful. We wound up climbing for nearly two hours and left with big smiles on our faces. Absolutely recommend!

The place is ok. The climbs themselves are fun but this place lacks all of the amenities that real climbing gyms have. No training boards, no weightlifting aside from a small rack of dumbbells (in the most awkward corner), no gear shop, no showers or saunas, horrible hours, etc. This place clearly cuts every corner. Oh, the menβs βurinalβ is a literal toilet. Seriously.

My work team had a seminar in Ventura during the week of 10-20-2024, and had a tremendous amount of trouble looking for a team building event. We called multiple places, which none called us back.
While I took a break, my colleague called "bouderdash", left a message, and was immediately called back and invited to head down, and offered to close the place up after we were done (After their normal business hours).
Upon arrival, the proprietor running the building for the evening, who took our call, welcomed us with a very fun, and almost care-free attitude. He spoke in grand gestures, ironically, of simplicity that we could come back and make the belaying/tether walls an adventure if we booked it with enough time in advance to do so, and it felt as though, he might be missing what we were interested in the evening - getting our team members who wanted to do something fresh and new, onto a rock climbing wall.
While the proprietor continued to walk and talk with the individual who got us the reservation, those of us without any understanding of the details worried that we would not be climbing any rock walls that evening.
The proprietor, Christian, kindly expressed to our point-man what we could participate in, that evening, on the "boulder."
We wouldn't have rigs or ropes on our backs, we would be freeclimbing, or at least try.
Christian was just an amazing fellow to have as a shepherd in this experience. While the 16 of us who had the courage to arrive from our team of almost 30, 6 decided to sign the waivers of death (let's be fair; its necessary these days to rule out liability of *all* possible outcomes, if the intent is to run successful adrenaline-based adventure warehouse).
Christian sized up every one of us who signed the waivers, handed us shoes he felt which would be best, and got us each, individually started on lateral moves across the 40 foot wall. We became familiar with the bouncy, cushioned floor.
Those of us who donned the shoes, got to the boulder, and Christian set each of us on our own path.
Having little experience, if any, with rock-climbing, I made it to the very top on a V0 route, with confidence like I'd never had before in my life.
Christian. Was. Amazing.
He was with us ever single step, crawl, pull, and pause of the way. He kept the enthusiasm running, and those remaining 10 who chose not to climb the wall felt earnest to cheer along with Christian every step and hold and crawl of the way.
This was the kind of team-building event that movies are made of.
When we walked in, we thought Christian was possibly inept.
By the time we left, we knew, Christian knew exactly what he was doing.
We will be back.
This is the team building event your team truly needs. It must be done. Christian knows what's up.

Came in mid day and it was fairly empty. Great atmosphere and the fellow at the front desk was extremely helpful and kind. As I was climbing he was even there to support another customer who was having a hard go at a certain climb which was great to see his support.
There was a new wall being set so Iβm sure this happens often and allows for new boulders frequently.
There is a very long traverse set on the rope wall which was really fun and low enough to not require a rope.
Ropes are human belay only and I did not see any auto belays there.
The rental shoes were nice and clean and the grades were a great challenge similar in grade to what Iβm used to in Santa Barbara.
I canβt ask for much more in a climbing gym.

As a mom, I appreciate the safe friendly atmosphere here. My kids love it, are never bored and often bring their friends. I've been able to join climbers when I don't have a climbing partner. Since the belay test is thorough and strict, I know anyone in there can safely belay me. The routes and boulder problems are creative and challenging. Simply staying fit or focusing on climbing is convenient because membership includes all 3 gyms!!! I'm able to pop in for a quick traverse or climb from 530pm to closing. I've been able to climb outside with other families because the gym is a great meeting place for competent climbers. I don't look at this place as a workout gym but more of a membership to a healthy lifestyle which is invaluable. Where else can families and friends (uncles, teenagers, grandparents, siblings) hang out in an active healthy way? I've a photo of my 80 yr. old mom climbing. She has MS so anyone can do it and Boulderdash was especially helpful and patient with her!

I love this gym! Iβve been a member for years and I was thrilled when Boulderdash added a Ventura location. New routes, both ropes and boulders are set weekly, which I love!! The workers are so friendly and helpful, as they all get to know and encourage the climbers every day. I especially appreciate Tuli, who exudes calm, thoughtfulness, and positivity. I often consider asking him for advice/tips on how to improve my climbing as he seems so knowledgeable on how to get stronger. Yay for Ventura B-dash! β¦. My home away from home. π

Confused as to the policies of the climbing gym which allowed the staff member to treat myself and my sister in an extremely condescending tone. I have been climbing for years, whilst my sister is new to the sport and has only ever belayed with a grigri. In order for her to belay she needed to pass a test in which she only used a ATC. She had never used one and the staff member was βnot allowedβ to teach a new climber how to use a device before failing her and not letting enjoy the gym facilities. How do you expect to let new climbers learn and climb if they are not taught how to use a device??? (keeping in mind we had a Grigri on us which we were told we were not allowed to use?)
It was a extremely rude experience and made my sister feel uncomfortable and not welcome to a climbing gym where she could have just had a quick introduction into how to use a ATC before we then could enjoy the faculties.
We are from Australia where every gym welcomes new climbers and introduces them to the gear and how to use them before then watching how they feel on the gear, instead of acting like she was useless for not being able to figure out the device straight away with no prior experience. A very hostile experience.

All three boulderdash locations are super clean with lots of great bouldering and rope routes to figure out! The route setters are constantly coming up with new and creative ideas to keep it interesting. There are a lotta nice overhung routes that offer top rope and lead routes. The Ventura location is a few minutes from the harbor and surrounded by 2 great brewery's within a half mile!

I've been coming here for some time now, and have really enjoyed it so far. However, climbing at other gyms, I can see that this is a relatively average-below average gym for regular climbers. It's small, the hours are not so great, and the staff can be inconsistently kind or rude, helpful or plain lazy (within the same staff members). I feel like it's successful and has no need to improve because it's the only gym around for miles. Recently they've had an issue with a non-member abusing guest passes to climb many times a month, so they justified punishing all their customers by only allowing 1 non-member 1 time guest pass usage, *ever*. Wouldn't it have been more fair to only allow 1 non-member 1 guest pass use per month instead? This would also solve having every last Sunday be super crowded in an already small gym. It feels like they wanted to punish the abuser at the expense of everyone else, instead of just implementing a fair rule.
Still, I give it 3 stars since the resetting frequency has improved, for the times the staff has been nice, and for the community there. It's not a bad gym by any means, but it's certainly not a great gym either. I think new management, renovation, or a second location would be awesome.

Iβm not sure how someone could manage to βcoolguyβ a 6-year-old and a first-timer to climbing, but Simon pulled it off. Good work dude! Apparently too cool to get new customers set up and a kiddo stoked to climb. Actually said "she probably won't have much fun bouldering". We spent 5 minutes in this place. Vibes were way off. Pretty easy to forget this place exists. Good place to park the trust-fund Sprinter though!

Honestly the place is over priced, and kinda frustrating. Don't bother coming here unless you have someone to go with you. I just moved to the area and had to do their belay class, which was fine, but they told me I would need a partner to take the test in order to climb anything with ropes. I explained that I literally have no one out here and they just shrugged and said there's a sign up sheet for people looking for a partner too... π³ wait. What? Can't a staff member help me since it's just the test? Nope. I was hoping for a new hobby but nope. Back to tasks I can do alone... π So frustrating.

Its indoor rock climbing, not a whole lot needed, but they will help you figure the best way to defeat a route, and it's the cheapest 2 hours to wear out my Energizer powered 11 or old. $15.00 for 2 hours, and his fingers, arms and core muscles are smoked... that's a win for team dad
