My son is not good really coordinated. He is afraid of falling and had hard time coming down. Frank was super supportive and patient with him. My son came to me with a smile and told me that I have to give a five star to Frank. We had been to this place many times with our scout troop and Frank made this time the most memorable one. Frank is so good with kids and so encouraging, too. I appreciate his service.

One of the best indoor climbing facilities in California. Great top rope, lead and bouldering areas. Great staff and cool vibe.

Very clean, but definitely is geared towards top-roping. The bouldering section was small but had about 30+ routes with varying difficulties. I only wish they had more problems in the V0-V2 range, but I digress.

I attended a basic belay class. Great instruction and experience. My favorite part was how we simulate an actual fall during training, which I found valuable.
They do not have auto belays systems, but it sounds like that is by design. There is a bulletin board to find belay buddies and the community there was very friendly and passionate about climbing.

I want to support every climb gym I go to - maybe I’ve been to 30 or so over the past 5 years. Lots of hard work goes into setting and maintaining loads of gear / walls. But this is worst gym I’ve ever been to. Setting is an F. Bouldering area has several spots that don’t feel safe - which I have never seen. No boards hurts too. I’m at a loss for words. I hope someone turns this place around.

2.5 stars. Too expensive for what it is. Been a member at a few climbing gyms. Customer service vibe is off with some. Bouldering is kinda a joke. And they dont even have a water fountain… at a gym. But a day pass is 25 bucks. Couldnt believe it tbh. Oh, and their hours are lame. Bummer there isnt another option

Mediocre gym with some pretty soft setting. Boulder area is very small with pads you have to move around under you. Staff says someone breaks their ankle every week in there. Maybe change something (add some pads?) if that’s the case? Just a thought. There is a pull up bar and gymnastics rings that span over a walkway between two bouldering walls, so you constantly have to walk around due to people using the bar. Top rope walls are very short with uninspired setting. Also odd belay testing rules unlike ones I’ve seen before. Can’t test with a grigri, have to do the test as soon as you get there, no practicing beforehand, etc. Forcing inexperienced belayers to use a tubular style device is just asking for trouble. I understand forcing people to learn proper belay techniques by not having the crutch of an assisted belay device, but it’s a commercial climbing gym not an AMGA class. Watched someone almost deck due to a belayer on a day pass not pulling his break hand to his hip when the climber fell. Climber took a lead fall on top rope because of it.

Always a treat to go climbing! This indoor gym is full of helpful, happy community members that are totally stoked to help! The staff is knowledgeable and kind, they really make you feel like family! Great for groups or kids activities too… the only downside is I couldn’t find a water fountain so bring a canteen or buy some drinks from them.

This review is for the Westlake/Thousand Oaks location. This gym barely meets the minimum for serious training in bouldering or lead/rope climbing. The bouldering area is very small with short walls, though the setters make the most of the limited space. The lead/top rope section is decent, but it takes about four months to get a new set for the entire area, making it easy to get bored with the routes. I don’t want to be too harsh, but the main reason this gym is still around is that the next closest good one is over an hour away. On the plus side, the staff are friendly and helpful. However, this gym really needs an update or relocation.

Boulderdash is a hidden gem in the Conejo Valley. The climbing facility is nothing short of impressive, and the team atmosphere is one of a kind. Bringing our kids to climb here has been an absolute delight, as everyone we've encountered has been friendly and welcoming. I can't wait to join classes myself and experience firsthand the magic that makes Boulderdash such a great place!

I had the most invigorating experience at boulderdash westlake village! I was struggling with a v3 boulder when the most handsome employee named Jake walked past and told me ‘you got this!’
Next thing I knew, I was sending v6s, lost weight, and became approximately 69x more attractive according to my girlfriend!
Boulderdash changed my life and I owe it to the words of encouragement I received from Jake!
He is a legend and I will most certainly be returning to the westlake boulderdash to receive more climbing tips from him to continue upgrading my life!

Been coming here off and on for a little over a decade. Truly some of the best walls and boulders in the area. Staff is always friendly, they do take safety seriously as safety is a serious matter when doing this for fun or sport. They have great up belay classes and even have fun ways of teaching it. If you like climbing things (like me, my wife, and kid), come check it out. Boulderdash will not disappoint - in fact it might leave you smiling when you leave.

I would not recommend visiting this climbing gym on the basis of terrible customer service.
My family was visiting and we had 4 kids with us. We wanted to keep them busy and show them a good time and discovered this place online. Upon entrance, we were greeted by a gentleman that was cold and unfriendly. We got a weird vibe from him that should have tipped us off of what was to come but we brushed it off in good spirits.
Everyone was requested to fill out a basic liability waiver, was handed a harness, and then he explained that the belayers must complete an “exam”. Everything felt perfectly fair and reasonable thus far.
Mind you, we are not professionals. We are a simply a family trying let our kids have a good time, within safety limits. The belayers had belayed plenty of times before — it really doesn’t take a genius to do it — but it’s been a while so we struggled to remember how to tie the knot properly. We asked the gentleman if he could kindly show us. He said no and we need to do it on our own. So we went to watch a YouTube tutorial video as a refresher on knot tying. The guy chimed in saying that he can’t have us watching a video, we need to do it on our own. At this point we explained to him that we feel perfectly comfortable belaying the kids and would never want to cause them any harm. We just need a little assistance with the knot. He was headstrong and unwilling to budge with a rude and strict attitude. It was unpleasant and unreasonable.
According to him, the reason he couldn’t correct our knot was due to liability reasons. However, we just signed a liability waiver upon entering that releases them in case of an accident. This isn’t a matter of liability, this is a matter of stubbornness and small mindedness. This guy was in a bad mood and set in his ways. We could have just as easily sat in the parking lot and googled how to tie the knot before entering had we known he was going to be such a pain.
We ended up promptly leaving with no apologies from the guy for the uncomfortable situation. The kids were so upset. Not only did they miss out on our business, but will also lose out on many more customers down the road with this attitude. What a shame!
On our way out we saw a poster that they charge $50 for a belaying class. Now I see why he was so stubborn….

2024 update: downgrading to a 3/5 from 5/5. The gym only opens at 11am during weekdays, which is so late and doesn’t work for anyone trying to climb in the morning. Routes aren’t changed as often as other gyms and it’s impossible to climb during busy times.
2023: 5/5 Great climbing gym! Not huge, but it doesn’t need to be. Good variety of routes for both bouldering and top roping. Super nice staff!

Update: recently got a membership when they changed their pricing structure, increased daily rates, and reduced savings from 10-day passes. This is a plus among many minuses.
My main qualm is SAFETY:
On my most recent visit, there were a bunch of teenagers in a big group. I don’t really have a problem with this, but I do have a problem with a crowd of people around a wall when I’m on the wall. I don’t want to get hurt or hurt somebody else if I fell off the wall.
Another thing during this same session was this pair of adult men trying to learn how to do a backflip for the entirety of my session, about an HOUR. They were taking up a lot of space on the pads, not checking behind them for people before flipping, and nearly kicking me and my friends in the face several times. There was a guy egging the other guy on to keep trying and then doing a whole double back hand spring across the entire length of the bouldering mats. I don’t go to a parkour gym or a gymnastics gym. I go to a climbing gym where people climb. I’m not trying to get body slammed by some reckless, childish actions.
Later, one of the teenagers was inspired to also do backflips and then they just kept on going.
Staff members saw this going on and did absolutely nothing. NOTE TO BOULDERDASH: I WILL CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP IF THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR IS SEEN ANYTIME IN THE NEXT MONTH. I think it is ridiculously irresponsible of the staff to allow crowding around the wall with no spotters, reckless climbing, and unchecked gymnastics routines. I get they sign the liability waiver, but it really seemed like they were going to break a wrist or land on their neck at any moment.

Good routes, changed often. There is always something new for you. You will need to know the "follow through figure eight" to be belayed and you'll need to be able to belay with an ATC to belay a climber. No "grigris allowed. You can rent shoes, harness, ATC, chalk, anything else you might need.
The staff is pretty helpful. There is always that one kid who wants to correct the belay technique of the veteran climber with 30 years experience. I'd honestly rather have the guy belay the way he's comfortable rather than the latest trend, but I get it insurance is complicated.
All in all, fun place with lots of room to play.

SO MUCH FUN. Plenty of top rope climbing and a pretty good bouldering section too. I don't boulder much, but I had only been to Top Out in Santa Clarita prior to this Boulderdash, and the climbs are so much longer at Boulderdash! Only thing is, you have to go with friends who are certified in beleying, or become certified yourself. They offer classes to teach you of course, I think the beleying classes are $40.

I used to love this place, however: now its way too expensive for a rock gym. It used to be reasonable, but the day cost is outrageous without even using equipment (17$). You might think that buying a membership would be the way to go, however there is a sign up fee (50$) that makes me wonder why?, and the fee per month (65$) is higher than most regular workout gyms. That is a grand total of 115$ for the first month. They don't offer anything special, so why the increase in price? They know they are the only gym in town, so their monopoly allows them to charge so much. The staff has a great attitude, but the owner is not as friendly. I got hassled about my belay proficiency many times by him. (I've been climbing for 7 years). (I've also taken their belay test multiple times because they lost my paperwork, three times). Very Professional.

I love this place! The staff is friendly, everything is clean, the people that climb are amazing. Overall, just a great feeling. I really can't say enough about the staff there- friendly faces that are not only excited to see you, but give you tips and tricks along the way. I have a membership with my daughter (6 years old), and they have done everything from help me get her off a wall when she was scared, to teach her how to lower without being afraid, to suggesting walls to us that she can climb. They have routed me on when I go with my friends, and given me excellent advice. Absolutely love this place, and the people really make it. They change the routes often and let you rate them based on your climb... seriously incredible. Go HERE.

Went with family and had a great time. Instructor took great care of us and taught us techniques and tricks to help us climb more efficiently. Will definitely be back!

I couldn’t be happier or pleased with the service we received. I had my daughter’s birthday party here and the staff was amazing. I am horrible with names, I apologize; but the man who seemed to be the manager was super friendly and extremely helpful. The two young gentlemen (I think Justin and Chad –we were there July 23rd 6pm party!) were SO patient and very encouraging to our littles! We had about 12 kids ranging from 3-7 years of age and some brave parents also climbed. They were professional and very helpful. I highly recommend this place!! Fun times, great experience, great staff!

The only climbing gym in the Conejo Valley. So it's an added bonus that it's also a really good, clean, fun, well-maintained and professionally staffed gym!

Best/Only indoor rock climbing gym near Thousand Oaks. The staff is very friendly and helpful and almost all the customers are also friendly. Wish they had a drinking fountain.

NOT SAFE FOR CHILDREN!!♿♿⚠⚠⚠❌❌ I Fell from five feet on there padding and it felt like i popped my spleen because it felt like i i went face first into a jagget rock pile. The staffs were the worst people iv talked to ever. Bring your own snacks if you dont want to go $1000 in dept. Vertical heaven is 68 times better than this place. Do yourself a favor and do something different.

Looks great, routes are clear, be nice if they had a little fitness equipment to warm up. I'm coming back home to help take care of Dad, so this will be a nice place to have a bit of time to myself.
