This review is about a harassment incident I experienced at this gym and the way staff failed to handle it properly. I left the situation feeling unsafe, dismissed, and ultimately with no choice but to cancel my membership.
While working out at the gym, at one point I noticed a male member aggressively staring at me. As I looked back to try to understand why, his expression only grew more hostile. Then, without any provocation, he suddenly flipped me off, clearly trying to get a reaction, and then hastily grabbed his belongings, and walked away. His anger management issues and lack of self-control were very evident. I immediately reported the incident to the front desk. Although the male staff member on duty acknowledged the behavior—after the man himself admitted to flipping me off—he dismissed it and didn’t take it seriously, alleging that he knew the guy and that he was a “good person.”
What makes this even more concerning is that I have seen this same gym member seated behind the front desk before, greeting members. He does not work there. If someone who behaves this way is also trusted to represent the gym at the front desk, it raises serious questions about the standards and culture being upheld.
Instead of addressing the inappropriate behavior, the staff member warned me that if the situation escalated, both of us could be removed from the gym, and even suggested that if I pursued a complaint, they could sue me. I was made to feel blamed for reporting an incident in which I was clearly the one harassed. That response not only invalidated my experience, but made it clear that this gym does not take member safety seriously.
Because of this, I canceled my membership and joined another gym. Failing to properly address this type of offensive behavior directly contributes to an environment where harassment, hostility, and even homophobia can be easily tolerated—and where someone who reports an issue is made to feel like they are the problem. This experience has left me questioning the gym’s values and commitment to creating a safe environment for its members.
That is ultimately why I cancelled my membership and do not recommend Boulevard Fitness to anyone—because I cannot trust how this gym handles serious situations, including harassment.

The gym itself was fine, but after I cancelled the membership through email and received confirmation that it was cancelled they continued to charge me for months. On top of that, they stopped responding to me when trying to resolve the issue and never refunded the money.
I'm not the only one it's happened to so beware.

Great gym with a solid community! I’d love to see the gym invest a bit more into cleaning, maintenance, and updates, even if that means a higher membership fee. It would be great to feel comfortable showering and getting ready here before work, but the current restroom conditions make that difficult. I think small improvements could make a big difference. Overall, I still enjoy this gym and especially the outdoor area!

This gym claims to have an easy cancellation process via email with name and key tag number. I have an email confirmation from the gym staff that my membership was cancelled 6 months ago, yet they have continued to bill my credit card each month thereafter. When asking for assistance in the matter it has been weeks without any helpful response. Please learn from my mistake & the other similar reviews on this matter and avoid the theft ongoing at this gym.
I will happily update my rating on the gym if I ever receive a refund for my cancelled membership.
Edit: (No responses or assistance has been given 6 months later despite their Google comment)

No nonsense gym. Some of the equipment LOOKS roughed up but it all works and if something is broken they fix it quickly. All the equipment you could need for a great workout. There’s a little functional fitness section in the back as well. Awesome staff and the members are super chill. I’m usually pretty intimidated by gyms but not here, it’s a very welcoming environment.

Worked out here for 4 years because it was convenient and cheap. It got worse each year - perpetually dirty, equipment is always broken, and if it’s fixed, it’s replaced with cheap and uncomfortable foam. Only positive is the front desk employee Paul who is super friendly and helpful. But the owner needs to hire more employees to clean and maintain this large gym.
The owner alone is reason not to come here. Yes, I requested a refund as I was entitled to under my contract. I left an honest review with reasonable suggestions. Zero accountability from this guy.

Old school gym with a variety of quality gear. Lots of cable machines which is perfect because the three times I went it was very busy in the am. This is the gym for you if you fancy yourself a bodybuilder. The only knock I have is that parking is hard to find because the gym is clearly popular.

This gym has several issues that need addressing. It lacks air conditioning and has broken fans, making it uncomfortably hot - it gets very hot. There is a noticeable lack of maintenance, with many broken equipment/ machines contributing to an overall unclean and unpleasant environment. The bathrooms are particularly foul. Additionally, the gym seems to attract a steroid-friendly crowd, which I find off-putting during workouts. They let dogs roam the workout floor - very dangerous - it’s only a matter of time until there’s a serious accident. Lots of clutter and open storage with trip hazards.

The Pros: Friendly staff and outstanding atmosphere to work out. Open air gym with the back open to the outside. Has all the necessary equipment to have a great workout.
The Cons: Some of the equipment is in really rough shape. No hot water in the showers and the locker room (at least the men's) feels even older than the old gym atmosphere.
Overall, if you care about a great workout and not being overly crowded, plus a great staff, this is a recommended location. If a svelte new age gym setup (and condition) plus getting a great locker room as you will go to the office afterwards, there are probably better options. The latter factors are not on the 'must' list for me, so I appreciated the no-nonsense presentation, got a great workout, and would happily return.

I went to this gym for over a year. while it wasn't the greatest gym, it did the job. It's pretty worn down and pretty dirty overall
My biggest gripe is with the cancelation process. On 12/10/24 i canceled my membership. They stated that there would be one more charge on 12/15/24 since I canceled less than ten days before billing. I obliged as that was part of what I agreed to.
Apparently there was a problem with payment and it never went through. Having canceled the gym and not going there, I had no idea that the charge never went through as they never noticed me
They reached out to me THREE MONTHS later to not only tell me the charge never went through, but that I was accruing charged. How am I supposed to know my payment never went through if you NEVER noticed me. They claim that their "club system" attempted to call me, but I never recieved a single call or email from them and they couldn't prove that they made attempts.
They've stated that unless I pay the charges it will be sent to collections. I agreed to pay the 22 I owed, but anything more than that is foul play on their part. I requested they call so I can make payment, but they completely ignored me. When I attempt to call the number listed on Google, it says it has been disconnected
I'd stay FAR away from this gym. Incredibly unprofessional and poor customer service. And it would appear that based on other negative reviews, they can't take proper criticism and attack their members

Good luck canceling your membership.
They'll tell you "You need to email" but then make some other asinine excuse as to why they can't cancel via email or they'll say, "You need to wait for our management"; I'm pretty sure beavers could run a better gym.
Never used the membership that was gifted to me, and canceling became such a problem we just canceled the card.
The owner is incredibly confrontational, just look at all his petulant responses to people who don't support his gym, and was very confrontational when I asked to talk with him. Dude seems extremely insecure and tries to get his way by intimidating people.
The previous owner was way better, and there are so many other places to workout outside this pinkeye factory.
Good luck!
Edit: My point exactly 👌 Dismiss anything and everything as "not their fault".
Search them on Reddit if you want to read even more anecdotes about people having terrible experiences with this establishment.

A great warehouse gym with a good amount of benches and machines for all types of workouts. There are 2 benchpresses, 4 squat racks, and a deadlift area for use. Several sets of dumbbells, enough to not have to wait long periods of time. Most crowded times tend to be around noon on the weekends and evenings on weekdays, like most gyms.

Yes it's cheap at less than $30 a month, but there is zero maintenance going into the equipment, restrooms, or floors other than restocking the paper towels and spray. My biggest gripe is that almost every piece of padding needs upholstery replaced, knobs are missing, etc. Also they could choose better pieces of equipment, like why is there 5 total cable/plate loaded machines for shoulder press but only one combo ab/adduction. It's clear they stocked this gym with a bunch of second hand equipment that was already on its final legs but won't replace them.

Great gym in North Park. Unfortunately I was relocated for work and cancelled my membership, otherwise this would be my spot. Starting my fitness journey, I was a bit intimidated and nervous about the whole process, but the guys at the front were always so nice and motivating. I dropped by to check and they were in the front just talking and not working. Was thinking of signing up but after calling and calling and no answer no thanks, No AC. Equipment is so old they make sound. No help inform desk. Not much information they give. Not professional in giving prices or answering phone like a GOOD business.

I was a member here for a few months. Then I had to cancel in May due to injury. I spoke to the guy at the front desk who said he'd take care of the cancellation. I've been charged every month since then and it's November. I've had to dispute a charge from them every month and they NEVER answer the phone. Finally, I thought since my credit card blocked them the transations had stopped, but now they're trying to charge me a different amount to get around the credit card block. It's like trying to break up with a crazy ex gf who won't let you leave.

Good gym if you're in the University Heights area, don't wanna spend too much, and know what you're doing in the gym already.
They have all the equipment you need but some of it is kind of janky so I wouldn't recommend it to beginners. Most of the weight plates are mismatched and never put back in any order so it can make things overwhelming for someone who's new to the gym.
Also quite a few bros on the sauce so it can be a bit intimidating depending on the time of day. But overall pretty chill.
It's pretty good for barbell and dumbbell work, even for very strong people. Pretty good plate loaded machines as well.
There's lots of nice leg equipment in the cake factory room but it's off limits to normal gym users. Would be nice to replace the first generation hip thruster on the main gym floor at least.
No AC but that's pretty standard for gyms in San Diego and keeps it from getting too packed in the summer in my opinion.

Best gym in all of San Diego! I can’t tell you how wonderful the people are here, when I first started my fitness journey I had no clue how to do certain exercises and I could just ask anyone here and they’d just drop what they were doing and show me. Few years later, we would come in and drop personal records on lifts! I wouldn’t be where I am without the people and the spirit of this gym. Went in on a day pass and the front desk attendant told me there was no foam roller for public use and I had to have brought my own. A lot of thr equipment was is in very poor conditioned. Two of the trainers also were disrespectful. One was upset that I was using a machine he wanted to use even though I offered him and his client to work in. Another trainer came up to me and stared at me while circling the machine I was on and shaking his head. Wasn't worth the $15 price for the guest pass.
To add after the owner responded. Multiple of the machines don't work well and telling the trainer that him and his client could work in with me isn't rude. You need to take ownership for your gym and not yell at every bad review.

OWNER DISRESPECTFUL AND ON POWER TRIP. Paid $15 for one day pass, first time there enjoy the equipment and the rest of the staff. Wanted to buy a drink, told me they only accept Venmo, but both an employee and manager said they’d accept cash this one time. Owner then refused cash and used the F word on me while raising his voice. At least they had the courtesy to give me a refund. This behavior is unacceptable, and I have never experienced at any other gym. 0/5 stars if I could.
Edit: I'm returning to my post after your response and have to say it does not surprise me one bit. You continue to make a mockery of yourself and prove everything I say right through your words and actions. Your use of curse words and accusation of me being childish is only a projection of your own insecurity and childishness. employee said "You know you really should have Venmo" to which I replied "respectfully, you shouldn't tell me what to have". If you think that's being an A hole, what a sensitive little man are you.

Went in with a $15 day-pass to check it out. Came back the next day and became a member. $22/month; can’t beat that price for what is offered. Lots of machines, free weights, cables and accessory equipment.
Switching from Stern’s ($28/month for weird vibes and equipment from the 1800s), BLVD Fitness has way more space, room, and equipment to do what you need do. Very thankful for the price point and quality.
My ONLY negative first impression was I wish there was a bit more room somewhere for another deck for OLY lifts/a few more barbells to go along with them, but I understand OLY lifting is not a major concern for the typical gym-goer these days.
Thank you guys for keeping it real with the pricing. All around good vibes from the front desk and the other members. 🤙🏽💪🏽

I've been going to this gym for a little over a year and am a big fan. It's large, well-equipped, and has a usable outdoor area with multiple pull-ups bars.
The staff is nice and the clientele is cool - beginners, fit, and some super fit women and men training in the same space without any weird intimidation vibes. All the interactions I've had were at minimum polite ("Are you using that?") and sometimes led to interesting, fun conversations.
If you're looking for a place that has tons of different group classes, you should look elsewhere, e.g., 24 Hour Fitness. Nothing wrong with that if that's your thing. But if you're looking for a true gym - as opposed to a fitness center - I can't think of a better local option that Boulevard Fitness. Good stuff.

Up the stairs and into the gym itself, it's open bay doors and high ceilings, with fresh air circulating throughout. Equipment of all kinds for each individuals goals. Well spaced out with plenty of room to walk through.
Then up another set of stairs is a section with MMA mats and TRX trainers for all my functional needs. I don't get up there too often, but it's nice to dabble!

Cheap fees.
Perfect place if you're looking for dirty floors and restrooms, outdated and broken equipment, and rude staff. The floors have not been swept or mopped in months. Most of the equipment needs padding replaced. I wouldn't shower in the locker room if my life depended on it. The single water fountain has been broken for weeks.
It's also HOT AS HELL in the summer because management doesn't understand the physics behind air flow. Most of the fans are against a wall so they generate no meaningful air flow. There have a few residential ceiling fans in an industrial warehouse space. Again, no meaningful air flow.
They also have ZERO enforcement of the indoor mask mandate.
See mgmt rude response to my Yelp review in the pics. You’ll see a similar passive-aggressive “good luck on your new fitness journey” on all negative reviews. They clearly don’t care about members.
If they had “thousands” of people in the gym every day, they would have plenty of money to make repairs. I’ve been there for 6 months and I’ve never seen any passing repairs. You can inspect the floors for yourself to see the hair balls. The equipment is covered in dust.

After 6 years at this gym, I’m moving on. It has steadily declined in services and friendliness. Towel service is gone, included classes gone, extra space for walking lunges gone, gym equipment still old, steroid filled toxic trainers ever increasing, staff friendliness nonexistent.

Great local gym with affordable and simple monthly payment. Gyms focus is more on strength building then cardio which I love.

I agree with all the negative reviews. This gym used to be good, but after new management took over - it totally went down.
Before, I was able to use group exercises, such as boxing, boot camp, etc. Which is provided by all gyms nowadays.
Anthony's bootcamp class itself was worth to keep the membership. However, now all group classes became extra cost.
What upset me the most was when I couldn't even jump rope in the facility's patio; a dude who apparently rented the patio approached me saying that I can't be here because its private area now. That is ridiculous!!!
Emailed them twice to reduce my membership price, but they simply ignored it.
Anyway, I got back to 24 Fitness now and completely happy with it.

The best gym that I have ever been to. Fantastic Owner and a great staff. Plenty of equipment so you do not have to stay in line. I am 63 years old and lost 45 pounds by working out religiously 5 to 6 days a week at this great gym. If you are looking to lose weight this is the place to go!!

Good vibe about this Gym, new owner keeps up to date with the maintenance of the machines and seems to genuinely care about the members. All the machines you may need to get a great workout and even some punching bags on the top floor. Only bad thing about it currently are the weekend hours. Hope they get extended soon, other than that everything is awesome!

Closed for covid and then started charging my card without any warning of reopening. Shady af. You think when they see that someone hasn't visited their gym since 2019 they would stop charging or give the client a call....but no...instead they charged me for over a year without one visit and completely unapologetic. I also tried calling on numerous times to cancel and no one ever picked up. Watch your bank account if you sign up with these guys.

Blvd Fitness not only has amazing equipment and a huge facility for the price but the energy of the club is great. A lot of clubs you go to and its boring, no good energy between people and you just train and leave. This is not the case at Blvd. The owner Shawn and his staff make us feel valued as members and are always really nice to talk to. I moved from SD but whenever i go back, i train at this club.

Absolutely love this gym!! Hands down the best gym in the San Diego area! Awesome equipment and even better staff. They go out of their way to make sure all your needs are met. Not to mention the personal trainers are second to none. I also love the energy of this place, it gives you drive to be the best person you can be. They helped me through a lot of troubling times, being an open ear to listen to me. Consider them family!!! Go check it out!

Do you want Covid? Come here! I was desperate to find a gym in my location so I decided to check out Boulevard Fitness. While I was never for the closing of Gyms due to Covid, I AM for mask wearing and common sense. First off...They only pretend to take your temperature. I've had my temperature taken enough times to know if they're actually using it. Second, there are signs that say "Keep your mask on at all times." and yet nearly no one has theirs on while walking around or using equipment. At one point an older man was having a coughing fit and everyone was just ignoring it. They don't enforce mask wearing either. IVE ASKED THEM TO. The kicker? They demand you put your mask on before leaving the gym. They don't want the general population to know that this place is a Covid factory. There's no limit to how many people can be in the gym at once. I made the mistake of going on a Sat afternoon. Every piece of equipment was being used. People were flat out stealing weights from each other. No one was wiping down equipment. IM NOT EXAGERRATING. This place should be shut down immediately. A friend of mine is in the hospital. We traced his infection back to the gym. Do not come here if you care about your health.

Great gym, nice friendly staff, clean, lots of fresh air, sky lights, equipment never crowded, lots of weights, from light to heavy, lots of machines, lots of step mills which is like an escalator and does great things for gluts, and elipticals, good ab machines that can be weighted a big plus, nice people and safe lots of natural light that comes in feels like working out with fresh air fresh breezes, good price not too expensive, very knowledgeable trainers, also has store to buy protein powders etc, and a very knowledgeable staff to help u pick the right protein for you, much better than the corp gyms that are sterile. another great thing is they have alot of equipment you can hang from and do pull ups and such which is a life saver for shoulders and back, they even have rings

I personally do not recommend this gym by any means for multiple reasons. This gym has hardly any equipment. Also, the staff members are extremely rude. When Covid hit they took advantage of members by jacking up prices yet didn’t even provide access to cardio equipment. They just commented they went down on prices, but they were charging $100 for the month, which was more than the initial cost.
After going for a day I canceled my membership. My workout buddy also canceled over the phone since the guy who does the cancellation was unavailable. However, I still continued to get billed. When I emailed the company about this I received an extremely rude and unprofessional email from the business. I had also tried calling them four or five times prior to my email, but no one answered the phone. I was told they were going to dispute my charge I disputed with the bank. When you are that desperate for $20 from a one day member who canceled over the phone it really shows how much you’re suffering as a business.
I wanted to support this local business, but their lack of professionalism, equipment, and the poor attitude from the employees put a bad taste in my mouth. I would highly recommend going to another spot, such as Stern’s, which is in the area, and has an owner who continuously buys new equipment to care for his members rather than this location where employees snap at you to get your attention and fight you on the process of canceling your membership.
They keep commenting that if I read the agreement then we wouldn’t have had an issue, but when I tried to cancel in person they said the guy was not there to cancel our membership and would have to call us. Therefore, we had to cancel over the phone since they weren’t able to follow their own “protocol”. My friends cancellation went through, but obviously, mine didn’t. Read their responses and how my complaint was handled, and then tell me if you would want to do business with a company like this?

This was the best gym in the city before the county decided to make an example out of them. They have a great staff, the place is super clean, and I never was concerned about safety with all the COVID precautions they took. Boulevard is an example of how to safely train in the new normal. SD county should spend more time bugging gyms in pb and leave the adult gyms open for the adults. #freeboulevardfitness

Pleased to hear that you are staying open. If more gyms united and refused to close it may empower other businesses to do the same. Businesses have gone out of their way regarding safety measures and most, including gyms that opened (and closed), feel safer then some aisles of grocery stores. People need to make a living.

This has always been the hidden gem and best gym hands down in San Diego. At my previous gym 24 hour fitness doesn’t matter the location it was always crowded and FULL of people. The vibe in here is what makes it a great gym!!! The people that go here are awesome no one hits on you, no judgement and I have actually made friends here. As far as the actual gym they have everything that a gym needs but it is a no frills gym. They have an out door section also that has tires ropes etc. I haven’t been to Boxing or the group classes. The front desk people are very knowledgeable about fitness and quickly become family! They usually always have something going on in the lobby either vendors massages meal prep people etc. Also very clean they have a cleaning person that comes in at night that I have seen who is friendly. I love it!

Best civilian gym in San Diego. It reminds me of gyms in Marselles, Cairo, and Puerto Rico and the grittier warehouse districts in new york city’s old meat market and waterfront in Brooklyn where Russians and Bulgarians do dead lifts and the barrel chested weight lifter is an olympic team member. But females will feel very comfortable with female staff always present. Classes and trainers are available. The equipment is basic but everything you need is there, free weights and nautilus equipment and treadmills and biicycles and equipment for classes. Staff and management are freindly and other gym users are generally aware of others and are not territorial, but you can find a time that is less busy if you prefer. I do see people doing lunges in some of the suoervised classes etc and based on my own experience, I cannot recommend lunges or any forceful stretch - youre at least after your thirties, better off taking your cue from dancers. Plies at a barre are the best exercise I know for avoiding runners’ splints. But I am not a specialist so enjoy!

Signed up for the free three day trial online. Went in and was greeted by blank stares. Explained I came in to check out the gym and use the trial membership. I was helped quickly to sign up and told how much it would cost after the trial. No tour. That’s fine, not a big deal. However, there is already a limited amount of cardio equipment (my primary gym need) but I soon realized that at least 7-8 of those machines were out of order. Two of those that did not have these signs I attempted to use, but they will also soon be out of order. The weight room looks big and comprehensive so if that is your primary need it probably would be a fine choice. Still at $34 a month I need the cardio machines to work.

Boulevard Fitness is the best gym that I have ever been too. there is no contract, the people that work there are incredibly friendly and I became friends with many of the people that work there the machines are top-notch the staff are happy to help you, they make sure that if you need something it is provided for you and it is clean, and full of people that are obviously happy to be there. It's very affordable and the trainers are incredible! If you're wasting your time going to the other gyms in San Diego give Boulevard Fitness a chance.I guarantee you'll love it. I lost weight and gained muscle in a very short period of time thanks to Shawn, Mark, Tiffany and coach. I gained confidence and learned so much about exercise and bodybuilding, it's ridiculous. I learned to enjoy being healthy. Sadly I moved back east and I can say with certainty, Blvd fitness is truly one of kind, and I am grateful for having the experience of training there. To be treated as a friend and feel part of a family and not just a customer is what you can expect. Check it out!

It can be hard to find a real weightlifter's gym in the age of Crossfit and 24 hour fitness where people go to exercise their vanity and not their bodies, but surely I have found it in Boulevard Fitness! Great equipment, friendly staff, professional trainers and plenty of classes make it easy to achieve your fitness goals here, no matter what they may be. No ego and no attitude here with the staff, and in particular the owner, Shawn, who is there so often with a friendly smile and encouraging words. I have never been even close to this satisfied with a gym and you won't find me anywhere else!
