. This is the 3rd incident of me catching my foot on the rubber Stripping covering the crevices on the cement around pool and throughout grounds.. I have fallen scraped up my knee pretty badly and if I end up, shattering my patella because of this, there’s gonna be a problem! When I’ve asked to speak with the manager once again, she’s on a phone call or too busy and have I explained my concern to the person at the front desk, which I’m sure it went in one ear and out the other, definitely speaking to a deaf ear…
Can you guys please fix this problem before somebody gets really hurt?

Overall, probably the best gym in Modesto. It has some issues; but not nearly as bad as other gyms (especially for the price). I’m glad it isn’t packed all the time and appreciate that they keep the pool in great condition.

One thing it is missing is towel service though! I was so surprised it isn’t offered at a nicer place like this! Not only would it be a great amenity for guests but it would probably cut way back on how much they need to spend on paper towels. I’d pay extra just for this because I often forget my own towel and end up wasting my time going back to get one. I bet a neighbor kid could make a good side-hustle selling towels 😂

The amount of times and a lot different times a day the women's locker room is closed for cleaning has been ridiculous. There needs to be a schedule of when it will be cleaned so patrons can be make provisions for using it OR get a female cleaner. In the last 30 days half of the days i turn back around because the locker room is closed for cleaning....

Brenda's gym in Modesto has been my mainstay gym since around late 2020-2021, right when the gyms started opening up again. It's the best gym I've ever been to in my life.

-doesn't have the overcrowded spaces full of teenagers standing around (in shape) **95%** of the time

-doeant have the weird people at Planet Fitness **90% of the time**

-a lot of older people are there, especially during the morning, therefore, a lot of good machines and equipment are rarely used by the older members, with the higher weighted dumbbells collecting dust.

When machines are being used, they usually will get off the machine or equipment relatively quickly, making waiting a rare circumstance in the this gym.

Customer service and staff are incredibly helpful and positive. They're friendly, they provide great customer service, and are knowledgeable about the gym.

The pool is fantastic. Sometimes you have to fight for a lane because there isn't too many, but that's to be expected with the 5-6 lanes they have. Most people are willing to share a lane with you as well.

The cardio room/equipment is fantastic, theyre all functioning correctly and there is an exuberant number of cardio machines.

The dumbbells are a minor complaint, they're iron grip brand, but that's just a personal preference. No decline chest machine to speak of either. There is a decline barbell bench that's rarely used, is not stable on the ground, and in general is difficult to get into position of you're using dumbbells upon it. The barbell works fine obviously, but you'll need a spotter for safety.

Another minor complaint is they removed the punching bag from the large, open room, due to someone damaging the equipment while it was being repaired.

The cable machines are high quality. They range from life fitness to iron strength, and a few machines in between.

I've never utilized the tennis courts.

The steam room is great, and the bathroom is clean at all times.

Very few, actual complaints. This is my favorite gym I've ever been to.

If I can give this place zero stars, I would. Family members, as well as myself have dealt with very awful employees who can’t seem to understand the concept of human decency and respect. The rest of these reviews don’t lie.
I reached out to have my account placed on hold and was given the runaround for days. First, they claimed I wasn’t authorized (even though their own paperwork shows I’m a primary signer), and after I pushed back, they suddenly “found” the correct information.
Now they’re refusing to process anything without demanding a $230 balance first — information that was never mentioned by the first girl who helped me.
On top of that, she never told me anything about needing to email in order to freeze the account and we could just call — she had one job, and she couldn’t even do it correctly. Sounds like they need to replace whoever is messing up because this is beyond unprofessional.
Also, the lounge room is dusty and neglected, which tells you exactly how much attention they give to the rest of the place too.
Definitely would not recommend. Save your time, money, and patience.

Horrible management, bad attitude to clients including kids. I was gifted punch card to try this club. I was planning to buy a membership later on. I asked if my little kid is good to go with me for free or not. The receptionists said yes and they let me in 9 times. When there was only one time left in my punch card the lady said my son is not allowed to go. I couldn't buy a membership right away as my family planned to travel, but they just kicked us out. My son cried a lot...not recommend this club to anybody...very disappointed

The members at the gym are friendly and warm. I have made a lot of friends there.

But I give the staff one star for their poor service. Through the four years I have been a member with them, I always have a hard time with payments. About two years ago, my work discount with them ended. I asked if I could convert back to their regular monthly dues, but they told me I had to re-enroll and pay the new monthly fees. I was unhappy about it, but stayed for my friends. When it was time to cancel, they did not let me know there would be an extra charge for the following month, when I spoke to them ahead of time.

If you decide to use this gym, be very cautious about their payments. They like to raise prices, and they do not appreciate their members.

Went in to cancel because we moved and are unable to use our membership. Unfortunately I canceled the day after they took my payment so I understand if they won't refund me this months payment but they are trying to say I will have to pay for next month as well even though we're canceling today. After reading reviews they are basically scaming people with the cancelations to make money off their "memebers". They suggested to drop our membership to a single account so the payment won't be as high. I shouldn't have to pay for another month after canceling.

The employees here are so horrible. Not only are they so rude and unhelpful; they are lazy and clueless! I asked for a tour of the gym and she just pointed to the buildings instead of walking me through them. Which was extremely unhelpful considering the size of this gym. I had questions about unusual charges and they took forever to get back to me, the employee said they weren’t sure why those charged were being made that she would have a manger contract me. However, the manager said the same thing, that she wasn’t sure why they were charged. Overall very negative and dirty atmosphere. It needs to be remodeled considering the amount of money memberships are. One of the pools is extremely nasty and green. They cut down so many trees which makes you feel like you’re in someone’s backyard. If you are considering getting a membership here, maybe don’t.

I enjoy BAC it is small and quaint. I don't feel the pressure or judgments of a large gym. However, they don't communicate well. There is no information about what they offer as far as classes. I had to explore the facility to find where things were located. Like the locker room and lockers, showers, etc. It was a little awkward.

The tennis courts are a fall hazard with the many leaves that are on the courts. When I told management about this issue. All I heard were excuses why the leaves couldn't be picked up. I asked for a broom and a dustpan she stated that she didn't want membership cleaning the courts. I asked if she wanted membership to fall and injury themselves. It takes 5 minutes to pickup the leaves. I just hope nobody falls and injury themselves . Especially after management has been made aware of the problem

Most likely going to terminate my membership soon. This club can never seem to enforce their rules. It would be nice if someone would come out of the office every now and then to check the pool area, especially the hot tub. They have a sign posted that reads "Children under 14 not allowed in spa", yet kids are always in the spa. They make it dirty and jump in the water, run around with minimal parent supervision. Today a kid did a cannon ball into the spa. Very cool... Also, their water machine filter was left on red for weeks, told employee it still hasn't changed and they told me it's always like that. Weeks later the filter light shows green. So I was essentially lied to. Not worth the money paid and would rather spend my money elsewhere.

Update: Hot tub jets are now broken due to the carelessness of others. Also, water machine by tennis courts have not had filter changed since 12/2023. Staff at Planet Fitness are more educated and nicer than the staff at Brenda. No one knew how to cancel a membership. Pools are also dirty, one seems to be in cleaning every time. Go spend your money elsewhere.

I cancelled my membership and nobody ever responded. When I called to follow up I found out they charged me for continued membership and they refused to refund me. They had no explanation as to why it was not handled timely. I also asked to speak with a manager, her name is Yesenia. She never called me back and basically avoided any accountability. When I finally spoke with her and asked to speak to her manager, she told me there isn't one. Only the owners and they do not deal with customers. I was never treated like a customer, only a number, and money that they took and shouldnt have. Never again will I deal with Brenda or recommend this unprofessional gym to anyone.

I went to this gym despite reading negative reviews about the staff. Unfortunately, my experience confirmed the complaints. While I was swimming in one of the lanes, a lifeguard jumped in after me and started swimming in the same lane. He then asked me to move because he was doing his lifeguard training. His communication was rude, and he seemed entitled, repeatedly telling me to get out of his way. It seems like the gym is losing members due to the behavior of their staff.
I will be informing everyone I know that this is not a welcoming environment, especially for people of color.

I just like to leave this review because i want to make other people aware what they are signing in , this place I never had good experience with payments they tell you something and come up with something else, on top of that whoever they have on front desk have lack of knowledge or experience, when you do your payment and have questions that person will go inside and ask another person to see if she/he is doing it right or not ? but sad thing is still it will be wrong calculation,I canceled my subscription in December. End of December I found out I still had to pay for December and January via mail which I completely disagree, if I physically went there to cancel in December why they charge for January. when I went to cancel my subscription nothing was explained and I was told just told to pay the total balance to cancel subscription ,when I called they told me she put this and that in her note , but didn’t make sense if I went there to cancel my subscription in December why I will still pay for January , when you complain they can hang up on you , so be careful with your money, even there accounts specialist don’t know how to calculate your payment, she was the one calculated my payment and did not told me she she is going to still bill me next month. Rude catty karen at the front desk; a living stereotype of MAD TV’s Vancome Lady. Was about to purchase a family membership until her sermon on “we don’t change the tv channels in front of the stationary bikes; doesn’t matter if the Niner game is on”. Oh well… I’ll stick to Valley Fitness where they’re not petty ot pitifully unaccommodating.
In all fairness their pool is big enough for both laps and aquarobics. The treadmills and bikes are bunched in two hastily put together (and not well ventilated) side rooms next to the pool.

Brenda use to be a good place until Lily came into this community. Lily is most likely one of the worst workers at Brenda. As you can tell, most bad reviews are about her including mine. I think this is a sign to the manager because Lily is ruining experiences at Brenda. She has so much attitude and when you need help she can care less. She has AirPods in while shes literally working which is extremely ignorant. She makes fun of people when she has no room to talk. She needs to get her attitude checked immediately. She seems racist because she treats “white people” with so much respect but anyone else who isn’t her kind is not important at all to her, and you can tell too just by the way she acts. I left a while ago because I will not allow myself to be treated with disrespect from something I spent my money on.

I've been here a few times prior using a punch card then eventually signed up for a membership. I like the facility but there is one employee that I dread seeing when I check in and leave. Not sure what her name is but she's a young white girl with short-medium length brown hair. Every time I've seen her she has a bad attitude. Seems like she hates her job. At times she makes me feel uncomfortable for no reason. Whoever decided to hire her needs to reevaluate their decision-making skills because this particularly employee is not fit for the job. Just got off the phone with Yesenia, the manager at this location. I was charged this month without notification after being in a 12 month contract from last May to May 2020. They failed to advise that a 12 month contract rolls over to a month to month contract. Yesenia was being so rude and literally talking over as I was trying to speak. I will never refer anyone here and I will never do business with Brenda’s. Yesenia needs training on management skills because her customer service is horrible.

I highly recommend this club!
The tennis clinics are great fun! I really enjoyed having another club member scream at me and threaten to hit me ... adds a extra layer of fun to the clinic. And the tennis pro standing there apologizing for the other person's bad behavior all the while doing nothing to stop them or asking them to leave - well that just adds to the excitement!

And its definitely the place to go play tennis on the weekends - the alcohol consumption going on there is like no other! Lots of intoxicated adults hanging around while people are hitting tennis balls to their kids on other courts.

The pool however - that is a different story. Nice shaded areas, abundance of lounge chairs, and areas for both the kids and for adults to lap swim.

I've been going to this gym for 3 years. It's served its purpose, but it is a mediocre powerlifting gym at best.

The good: Staff is always friendly. They just recently got new treadmills.

I've never been to any of their classes or used the swimming pool or tennis courts.

The bad: Free weights area is terrible. Only two flat bench press stations and two squat racks. They do have an extra Olympic bar, but no extra space to deadlift other than using up one of the squat racks. They have four different types of weight sets, none of which are bumper plates, which makes deadlifting quite loud and no weight trees, so finding matching plates involves walking across the gym several times. Most people don't unrack their weights when they're done, so it's sometimes hard to tell if the weights are available. During peak times you are usually forced to work in with someone else or stand near the rack/bench awkwardly.

I have been to pretty much every gym in the area, and worked at about half of them. I always come back to brenda. It is my home gym. The first time I came here was when our swim team used to practice there when I was in elementary. I even slipped and chipped my front teeth in their old locker room. There have been a lot of improvements to the gym through the years. Recently both locations (Modesto, and Turlock) got new equipment! I am a little saddened that a lot of the employees who have been there for years are no longer there though :( anyways I highly recommend this gym, everyone there is so friendly! I can’t work out without making a new friend. I am a swimmer so I shower there like daily, if I could improve one thing there... it would be the cleanliness of the bathrooms. Showers need better ventilation.

I have been a member at this club for a few years and have been impressed witht the recent changes. I will say that I am happier with the attention that the owners have put into the place. The front has been updated and feels much cleaner and modern. The bathrooms finally have a bit more privacy and the soap dispensers and other amenities are more reliable. Thank you for investing in your business. I hope that the next investment will be in the equipment. I can't find a treadmill that will go above a speed setting of 7 and have almost fallen because it struggles to keep up. How about a juice bar/cafe in the area not being used. Something to get food for the kids in the hot summer or a drink. Again, thanks for showing some love to Brenda, my family loves the pool.

Drove to Modesto from Madera for a USTA tennis event. Staff was not very friendly or helpful. It was 107°F and the club booked the cafe, which is the only indoor area to cool off & the location of the ice machine, for a private party. 5 of the 8 tennis courts are in terrible condition, with the other 3 courts only slightly better. Not sure about the fitness center or other areas of the club, but don't recommend the tennis facilities.

Staff is horrible, my child was repremanded by an elderly adult while using the bathroom of all thngs. She confused my daughter for a boy when she clearly is a young girl, yelled at her, n when we went to tell the staff bout it aftr my child left the bathroom in tears, the staff completely ignored us, saying our child should have a more "appropriate girls hair cut?" What does that mean... my daughter is 7 ppl...

Staff was rude, facilities were dirty, and tennis courts were horrible!! We were there for USTA TOURNAMENT for my son, no shade for players, it was 109°, no access to ice, and very limited water.Tournament director Brian was very unorganized, and didn't address issues or return calls. Will never play another tournament at this facility again!!!

The staff here is terrible. They are the snottiest people on the face of the earth. The courts here are terrible. They also have a staff member who mad dogs everyone who walks by. I won't be coming back here anytime in the near future.

Really enjoy this Athletic club. The facility is beautiful and they have some features you would not normally see in other gyms, such as a hair salon. They offer daycare, classes, kids nights and the "Dive-in Movie's" in summer....wich my family really enjoys! A few times a year they have an open-to-the-public event where people can come swim with their families and experience what they have to offer.

I love coming to Brenda because of the variety of offerings.....classes, individualized training, swimming, childcare, etc. I've been coming here for years and always feel like it's a home away from home. The staff is friendly, the facilities are clean, and they listen to cares and concerns with an attitude to make our experiences the best they can be.

I grew up going to Brenda's. It definatly made childhood more fun. At the age of 18, I ceased membership due to my relocation. I have joined a few other gyms since then, and nothing ever compared to this facility.  I am now back for a few months due to work, and have a temporary membership for a few months. It is even better than I remembered. I feel so welcomed here and there is such a good vibe! The manager is super friendly, as are the staff. The equipment is top of the line stuff. And the locker rooms are nice, never too crowded. I definatly recommend this this place. You might pay a tiny bit more, but you get what you pay for!!
