Hands down the best Pilates reformer studio in the world! I’ve lived in multiple big cities and travel often, and this is by far my favorite studio (and one of the reasons I haven’t left SF.)

- The space itself is stunning; super clean, bright with high, spacious ceilings - it never feels too crammed.

- The teachers are exceptional. Classes fly by, and while it doesn’t feel like I’m straining or working too hard during class, their precise cues and focus on alignment somehow activate muscles I didn’t even know existed and I’m sore (in the best way) for days after.

- What truly makes this place special is the owner, Artemis Anderson. The physical and energetic space and community she’s created here is unlike anywhere else. Her mastery of the body, deep integrity, and otherworldly loving presence is infused in everything here.

This studio/classes has been a source of light and carried me through some dark times. This is the one place I keep a monthly membership without hesitation or guilt (even if I don’t make every class) because supporting this space feels like giving back to something that’s given me and others so much. 💕💕💕

I couldn’t be happier with my decision to join Bright Star Pilates. For nearly two years I’ve trained one-on-one with top-notch instructors whose expertise has been invaluable. They’re highly experienced, professional, and committed to helping me reach my goals. I also take one or two group classes each week, which are fun, engaging, and a perfect complement to my personal sessions. Bright Star pairs expert instruction with a warm, welcoming vibe that makes me look forward to every visit.

I've been going to Bright Star Pilates since June 2024 (about twice per week) and have had nothing but positive experiences. The studio has such a welcoming and supportive vibe, and every instructor I’ve worked with—Artemis, Ramlah, Matthew, Marcia, and more—has been knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. Whether you’re a beginner or more experienced, the team meets you where you are and creates a space that feels encouraging and inclusive. I always leave class feeling stronger and more grounded. Highly recommend!

I purchased the 4 class intro pack in MINDBODY, and was surprised to find that the app didn’t let you book just any class, you had to start with the foundations class. This was not stated in the terms of the intro pack.

So I booked a foundations class, assuming that after that class, I could move on to level 1. I’d like to preface with the fact that I’ve taken over 100 pilates classes at various studios in the last two years.

The moment I walked into the class, Ramlah asked me if I had done Pilates before and I said I had. She clearly didn’t like that answer, and immediately went on a rant about how all these young Pilates studios aren’t real Pilates, they’re workouts. I knew from that condescending comment, before we even started the class, that I wouldn’t enjoy this.

This class was more like physical therapy for older folks than a solid Pilates exercise class. One of the things she taught in the class was * how to lower yourself down to SIT onto the reformer without hurting yourself *….

Ramlah clearly has some sort of vendetta against the other reformer Pilates studios in the area, and wouldn’t allow me to book Pilates 1 after taking her foundations class.

I’ve unfortunately wasted $100+ on this intro pack, and won’t be able to use it due to Bright Star’s antiquated practices and policies.

I want to thank Bright Star Pilates for being a wonderful studio all around! I've been taking classes for over a year and have been getting much stronger during this time. I was a complete newbie to pilates and I wish I had started group classes sooner! All of the instructors are AMAZING. While everyone has their own style, all are incredibly skilled, friendly and knowledgeable. Plus they are always available for modifications and support when needed. It is truly a special place and I'm so grateful to be a part of this studio. I look forward to continuing my pilates experience with Bright Star!!

I am eternally grateful that Bright Star came into my life! As someone who had always been interested in pilates and would do classes here and there but hadn't found a studio I really connected with, I quickly knew that Artemis and team were the right group for me. Never have I looked forward to a workout class so much! Artemis and Yara have a wonderful skill of using strange but accurate analogies to explain sequences and positions. I cannot recommend this studio enough!

I’ve been attending this studio for over 6 months. I love it. Great instruction, hard but rewarding workouts. Everyone at the studio is so helpful. When I injured my ankle they worked with me so that I wouldn’t lose my class credits. Could not recommend enough.

After my cherished studio closed, I searched for a new home, and I found it at Bright Star. After Covid-19 shutdowns, I needed to be retrained, and Artemis was the perfect instructor for me. After 11 years of Pilates, I did not think I had much more learning to do, but I did. Artemis substantially improved my practice and movement. She understands the body and has excellent advice for everyone no matter the body or level of experience. She is an incredibly talented instructor and her classes are well-planned and challenging. The entire studio is lovely and clean, and the equipment is well-maintained. Artemis is a treasure, but the other instructors at her studio are also excellent. I highly recommend Bright Star Pilates.

Discovering this reformer pilates studio has been a game-changer for me!
I've been into yoga on and off for 15 years, but never a sporty person. I stumbled upon this pilates studio more than a year ago and decided to give it a try - it's fantastic! All the trainers here are exceptional. Each one is not only experienced but brings something different to their classes, making every session a fresh and engaging experience. With only 8 reformers, it's never too crowded, and the instructors always have time to give personal tips and corrections.
It's also great for anyone who's had injuries. The low-impact nature of the exercises, combined with a strong focus on building a solid core, offers a safe but impactful workout regime. The place is always clean, spacious, and the staff are super friendly and helpful.
Overall, this studio is a great find for anyone looking for a fun, effective workout in a friendly environment. Highly recommend it!

Bright Star Pilates is a top notch studio! Not only is the team absolutely lovely (they are warm, knowledgeable, pay excellent attention to their students and they're fun to be around) but the studio is clean + tidy and the equipment is in great shape. I'd been practicing pilates for years before finding BSP and I can say that they continuously challenge my mind and my body for nearly 10 years.

Bright Star Pilates is my very favorite studio for group reformer classes! I had done one on one sessions for a year at another studio before COVID hit and loved it. In the beginning of this year I decided to get back into pilates in an effort to recover abdominal (and general) strength after a surgery last fall. I tested 3 or 4 different studios around San Francisco and was frustrated by the lack of oversight. I felt like the instructors didn't care at and I was going to hurt myself. But then I tried a foundations class with Artemis at Bright Star, amazing! She is so on top of each student's form in class and goes at the perfect pace for everyone to keep up but still feel challenged. I have since moved on to level one and go to class 1-2 times a week. I have recovered all of my abdominal strength and more. Highly recommend this studio (and especially Artemis) for anyone looking to get into/back into pilates!

I highly recommend Bright Star Pilates. The teachers are incredibly professional. The classes are small, and the teachers give you personal attention. The space is beautiful and full of light, and the equipment is new. Last year, I came to one class with a friend, and since then, it turned into my main exercise. I highly recommend it!

My journey with Bright Star Pilates & Gyrotonic Studio Francisco began with a stroke of luck, the studio caught my eye during an aimless stroll. Thanks to the exceptional training provided by Artemis Anderson and her staff, my physical and mental health has transformed.
From the first session with Artemis, I have been in awe of her approach, she is profoundly thoughtful and thorough. Artemis goes above and beyond, tailoring each session to individual needs and ensuring a personalized fitness experience. What truly distinguishes Artemis and Bright Star Pilates & Gyrotonics Studio is the commitment to continuous improvement. Artemis is always refining her skills and expanding her knowledge base. This dedication translates into a dynamic and ever-evolving training environment, where clients can trust they are receiving the latest and most effective methods available.

Bright Star is a great studio for all levels of pilates - from beginner to experienced. There are a lot of group reformer classes on the schedule throughout the week, and the studio has a lot of reformers, so it isn't impossible to get a space in a class. Great trainers all around.

I’ve been taking Pilates classes with Artemis Anderson and her team of instructors for about 7 years and can’t imagine going to any other studio. All the instructors are incredibly knowledgeable, conscientious, encouraging and just plain lovely as human beings. Classes are invigorating and challenging in the best possible way -- not only giving you a great workout, but also giving you an understanding of how the body works and how to maintain strength as time goes on.

I think Artemis has eyes in the back of her head. She always senses when I’m not using my muscles correctly! Given my lack of dancer background and innate ability to overuse certain muscles and underutilize others, I need this kind of monitoring. The classes have def helped strengthen my core. I may whine about it but I def need it!

I’ve been coming to Bright Star since they opened their Castro location and I can’t get enough! Artemis, the owner, is incredibly kind, welcoming, and so knowledgeable. And every instructor who teaches here has been the same! Every instructor pays incredible attention to detail, makes sure you’re always at the right weight for you, and have the correct form. At other studios it can feel like weights over form but I always feel very safe here and have never had any issues. I come away from every class feeling strong, energized, and confident! I almost want to say don’t come so there’s more for me but this place is too good not to share!

I was completely new to Pilates when I went to Bright Star. They are extremely welcoming and have continued to help me grow my knowledge of Pilates over the years. I now incorporate it into my regular routine and consider it vital core training for other activities like biking, swimming, running, etc. I encourage you to speak with Artemis (the owner), if you're new or even curious about Pilates.

I’ve been doing Pilates for 20 years and have spent that time at the best studios across NYC and LA. Bright Star Pilates is the single best Pilates studio I’ve been to. Artemis and all the teachers here are seriously invested in instructing students on proper technique, making these classes infinitely more valuable than the chain Pilates studios that just want to break you a sweat and get you out the door. More than just a workout, these classes are transformational for your body, making you stronger, better aligned, better centered, feeling taller, and the most comfortable you can feel in your body. As a massage junky, I’ve noticed I’ve felt the need for far fewer massages as the stretching, strengthening and aligning of these Pilates classes has made my body so much better balanced. The classes themselves are always interesting. The instructors use inventive choreography to challenge your body and your mind while always meeting students where they’re at. Artemis and everyone at Bright Star are also really caring people who create a warm, welcoming, homey atmosphere. I just can’t say enough about Bright Star. I wish I could go 7 days a week :)

I've been a fan of Bright Star (Body Chemistry) pilates for many years. I didn't hesitate to "move with them" to 2 different locations because the quality of classes and trainers is always on point. When I walk into Bright Star, I know I will have a high quality & challenging work out that also acknowledges my weaknesses (or areas that I need to strengthen). Artemis, genuinely cares about all of the clientele and I think most of us feel that. All of the instructors are great. The class types & times are based on needs and interests of clientele. Yara's 7am class is worth getting up early for, but I think ALL the classes at Bright Star are worth showing up for!!!

I highly recommend Bright Star Pilates studio for both private training sessions as well as group classes. Artemis recently moved into a beautiful new location with two separate spacious rooms for Pilates private sessions as well as group Pilates equipment classes. My experience here spans a number of years now. I first came to Artemis for Pilates privates to help rehabilitate an old injury. Few years later I started teaching Pilates myself and enjoyed teaching group reformer classes here at Bright Star Pilates. These days I have my own private medical fitness practice where I happily refer clients out to Bright Star Pilates. If you aren’t sure where to begin your Pilates journey I highly recommend Pilates Foundation class at Bright Star Pilates.

I love this studio! It’s a perfect location between Dolores Park and the Castro! Artemis is a great instructor for both one-on-one instruction and group classes. Her awareness of how our bodies engage with the equipment and ability to feed that information to you via visual cues is outstanding. I also appreciate how Artemis runs the studio, it’s clean, airy, welcoming and a safe space. I look forward to when I am able take Gyrotonic’s!
