Great swim academy. My daughter started at pre-bubbler and reached elite/grad level at the Dublin facility. She was not confident in the water when she first started, but the safe environment and moral support she received over the years from her coaches made a difference. Her coaches motivated her, gave her confidence, and provided an extra nudge when she needed to refine and improve her stroke techniques (particularly breaststroke and butterfly), to the point where her breaststroke is her strongest stroke. Calphin’s annual summer swim meet also paved a way for her to experience a competitive swimming environment, which also gave her confidence and motivation to pursue swimming as an athletic sport. She now swims competitively and is working to further improve her times in the water to eventually participate in her high school swim team. We highly recommend this swim school!

The best swim school in the area!
After exploring several swim schools in the Dublin and San Ramon area, I enrolled my now 7 & 9 year old kids at 'Calphin Swim Academy' (dublin) about 4 years ago—and couldn’t be happier with that decision. My goal wasn’t just for them to make it from one end of the pool to the other, but to truly develop lifelong, strong swim techniques. That’s exactly what Calphin offers.
As a former state swimmer myself, I know firsthand how swimming builds discipline, teamwork, and resilience—skills that extend far beyond the pool. It also played a key role in improving my asthma, something I’ve seen benefit my son as well. Swimming truly strengthens breathing and overall health.
I wholeheartedly recommend Calphin Swim Academy to anyone looking for their children to gain real swimming skills that last a lifetime. Thanks Calphin!

Both of my kids have been going to Calphin since we moved to Dublin 1 year ago and their swimming skills have definitely improved a lot. Especially my 4yo daughter who was terrified of getting her head into the water can now confidently swim for 10 ft all smiling. Super friendly teachers and staff (Nancy is awesome!) Highly recommend!

Calphin swim academy is the worst swim school by far. Believe me, we have tried many other swim schools like american swim academy, happy fish, private lessons. Each of them have their pros and cons but none as bad as calphin. Here is why -
1. Calphin claims they are much more strict than other swim schools and keeps your kid in the same level for years citing some minor nitpick reasons. While I can accept that they could be more strict, what is unacceptable is that they do not have a system to track/communicate the progress of each kid and where they need to improve. The instructor keeps changing every 3 months and the new person has no idea as well as to where the kid needs to improve. Their classes are just cookie cutter which make all kids do same things, and not tailored to each kid's strenghts/weaknesses. They make 10 year old kids swim with paddles like toddlers even when the kids can swim very well without them.
2. Their assessment system is a joke. Swimming is continuous learning that you master individual skills in each class to move to next level. Calphin has one day designated for testing in a quarter where they test some random subjective criteria to fail the kid. Other places like ASA, happy fish assess the kids continually and have a chart/book to track each kid's progress in every class and communicate with their parents
3. Their enrolling system is a bigger joke. They have the test scheduled at end of the quarter, that determines what to enroll in for the next quarter. By the time you get the results and decide to enroll, your current timeslot is already full and you have to enroll a different day of the week and different instructor. Its just a random mess that you cannot plan your life around
4. Calphin is more expensive for the time spent in the pool and have the worse ratio and worse instruction, compared to other swim schools.
Its hard to believe this crappy swim school still continues to be in business. Only good thing it has going for it is the convenient location. I hope they close this unethical and scammy business down

Shout out to Coach Arthur, Coach Xuan, and the supervisor Bobby. Both are not only professional but also passionate! My three-year-old son just started his first swimming lesson as a pre-sch starter with Coach Arthur, and it was a 10 out of 10 experience. My daughter was in Crawler 2 with Coach Xuan. She helped my daughter with her body position and swimming technique during the class and followed up with us/parents after each class for any practice at home that would be helpful before the next class.

Both my kids started learning swimming at Calphin Dublin in August 2023. It has been a year and a half now, and they have made remarkable progress. Both of them began as beginners, and now one has advanced to the Racer level (advanced), while the other has reached the Glider level (intermediate). They have thoroughly enjoyed their swimming experience at Calphin.
The coaches are skilled, and the staff is friendly. Coach Lexi and Coach Lucy were their favorite coaches when they were beginners. They were patient, encouraging, and helped them build confidence in the water.
They now offer makeup classes, which is convenient if you miss a regular session.

horrible organization inside. the lady inside next to the pool just plays dumb and never able to find your kids instructor on her ipad. Pulling the printed paper and we are first ones to spot the time slots and arranged instructor, not her. The classes usually started late and instructors are nowhere to be found in the first 5 minutes of the class scheduled start time. Everything is self serving.

Don't go here if you want your kid to learn swimming correctly and get confidence. My kid went here for a whole year and her love swimming keeps reducing because the way they treat kids and their teaching. Most of the instructors for kids don't seem professional, just somebody doing it part time . And when you complain about a instructor , what they give a bad certification to the kid. After going 1 year here and been promoted thru 2 classes our latest instructor gave feedback that our kid is scared of water , Seriously such vengeance with kid coz we complained he was not teaching properly. Never ever take ur child here.

I had a very bad experience with this swim school. Just sharing my feedback so people think twice before sending their kids to this swim school. Firstly, their swimming pool is very dirty and has bandages lying at the bottom of the pool. I have complained several times but no action has been taken. Secondly, getting access to the coach is not possible as they are always busy. Their trainers change every other day. My kid had multiple trainers for the same session. They have no means of sharing the progress and parents just needs to assume that the kid is doing okay until the actual test day. My two cents will be to stay away from this swim school as much as possible.

My son is in the Crawler 1 class and he has a sub coach today. I didn't know the sub coach but she looks like a pretty experienced instructor to me at the first look. There're five students in this class. During the class the coach asks each student to circle swim one by one. I noticed in about 10 minutes with four rounds of circle swim, the Coach only have the other four students swim one by one leaving my son at one side of the water without coaching him at all. He is the youngest but not the lowest level swimmer in this class. I went into the pool area and asked the coach the reason he was not being coached or asked to swim. The coach said she needs to keep him safe and doesn't want him to swim by himself. I said I know you're coaching and protecting each student during their swim, I still don't understand why he's not asked to swim. Without further answering my question, she asked me a question "DO YOU KNOW WHOM I AM?" I was shocked and replied "I don't know who you are Coach and I don't think that matters. Each student in the class should get equal opportunity of practice. " Then she called an employee on the poolside and asked him to tell me who she is. The man told me she's Coach Wang, the owner of this business. At that moment, I realized she's the Olympic medalist Xiaohong Wang who opened this business. However, so what? I told the man it doesn't matter who she is again. Each student should get equal opportunity to practice since we paid the same price. I didn't get further opportunity to talk to Coach Wang after this, and I'd like to say something to our Olympic Medalist Coach Xiaohong Wang here " Hi Coach Wang, It's very nice to meet you today. BTW, I came to the States for 21 years, and I never heard anyone saying DO YOU KNOW WHOM I AM since then. Also, if you can't perform as a normal coach like your employees do, please stay away from the pool. "

Most instructors are untrained teenagers. They barely provide any teaching during class. Each session consists of 10 classes (6 kids per class) and cost ~$490 per session and there are no makeup classes. They give you a swim pass if you miss a lesson. You have to commit to 10 classes and they will not move you to a different level or teach any new skill until the end of the session and take the "test". Since these instructors didn't even know what the passing test was, my kid's instructor constantly referred to her cheat sheet, looking confused, and kept "testing" my kid on the same skill over and over again making my kid swim more than 100 yards non-stop while she just let her "friends"(the other 3 teenagers) pass with just 1 try on the 20 yards mark. There were absolutely no feedback on what my kid should be improved on and they insist me to enroll my kid on the same level again for next session. I do not recommend Calphin if you want your kid to progress in swimming.

One of the least special needs friendly places I’ve been to in a long time. I’m a working parent and I have just enough time to pick up my kid from school and change him in the changing room before his class. He’s seven and cannot change himself, but signs were posted banning me from changing him in the girls’. There is one single stall handicap restroom for changing children of the opposite gender who are older than four that is literally always full before and after his class. When we used the showers on the pool deck to rinse off (as indicated by their sign) we were told “these are actually the coaches showers” so we needed to hurry along. The general feeling they communicated was that they don’t care about my child, and they will do the bare minimum to meet his needs as legally required but they feel it is a great inconvenience to them.
Outside of special needs, the coaches are unfriendly (shouting, grumpy, unkind such that my younger son did not want to go back to class after the first few sessions), the pools are tiny, and the locker rooms are very small. Their policies are borderline predatory, with no refunds given ever, and no make up classes offered (unlike MANY other swim schools in the area). The only thing positive I can say is the front desk staff were always friendly.

BEWARE!
1) Slow progression just to suck more money out of you. The beginners class they will have your child literally just blowing bubbles in water for a month. Yes, a month.
2) there are 2-3 kids each week in my youngest’s class. One of the kids she was not comfortable fully submerging herself in water. So each week, they would ask her once, maybe once throughout the lesson to follow a task. Doesn’t look like she’s rejecting it, but she would only go half way in. Instead of continuing to work with her like they should. Isn’t that the point of these classes? They instead completely ignore her for the rest of the session. No exaggeration. She’s sitting there just watching with no attempt by the staff to interact with her. But her parent doesn’t seem to care so 🤷♂️.
3) Don’t believe what they tell you. They tell you what you what to hear, and pretty much ignore you like the conversation never happened.
4) We signed up for summer, but then tried to canceled within a day of signing up due to conflict in our schedule. Was told to cancel online. But the online app says you can’t access until a certain date. In our case, until June. Contacted them, talked to multiple people, everything was fine, until they just decided they don’t want to refund us because it’s “past cancelation period”. Again disregarding the correspondences that happened prior.
Do better, Calphin Dublin.

We absolutely love Calphin Swim School! Today is Calphin's 20th-anniversary open house, and they've organized a delightful array of activities with plenty of snacks, dippin dots, popcorn, bottled water, and more. They even brought in a dance troupe for a performance, balloon artists for the kids, face painting, and a bouncy house. Both boys and girls had a blast! The highlight was the kids getting to play and swim together in the pool. The entire event radiated Calphin's sincerity and dedication! The kids are saying they want to keep learning swimming here forever!

They have very very rude behavior. They change the rules when ever they want. My kids went there for 1 whole year with long sleeves swim suit. Suddenly they changed rule for one piece swim suit. Even then I ordered and the shipping took 4 days long due to holidays. I told them exercise them 3 more classes then the dress will come. They were talking very funny that front desk people say it is ok. But the instructions say we donot allow. I donot understand. I got very irritated because they took kids until pool and they returned them back with out getting in. How kids feel about this. Don’t they feel shameful. I don’t recommend Calphin at all.

My son has been attending Calphin's intensive training courses from March to May of 2022 11 times. He progressed significantly by acquiring all four positions' flip turns, push-offs, tight streamline, and dolphin kicks.
Calphin provides top-notch professional training that better prepared my son to join the swim team after the tryout. Not long after joining the team, he successfully participated in several swimming competitions that ultimately made him achieve several A times of multiple events in the age 8 group.

Very disappointed with Calphin. Our 10 yo son kept telling us that he hates going to Calphin. We ignored thinking he probably doesn't want to get serious about swimming and wants to play around in water. But actually he was getting bullied by the coaches. We did not know until very recently when the class got cancelled and he was literally praying something. I asked him what was he praying. To that he answered that he was thanking God that his class got cancelled. I was shocked. I asked him why such strong feelings? What is such a big deal that you are hating it so much... then he told me that the coaches have been calling him lazy and all sorts of names. He said "No matter how hard I try to follow their instructions, they just think I am lazy". I tried to give coaches a benefit of doubt, and said "May be they were talking about someone else while looking at your unknowingly". to that he confirmed "...But they point at me and I know they are talking about me". I then called Calphin and asked their Director's email. They obviously did not want to document it and clearly told me - "You can not get Director's email". When I asked why, they did not have an answer. I then spoke to the center manager and they told me that they will investigate. When I called back to inform them that we are pulling our kids out of Calphin. They did not care to ask a single Question. Simply very casually said - Okay, sure. I am just so shocked at how they are operating. All the kids in our circle simply hate going to this Calphin in Sublin, CA. but unfortunately, the kids are not always very vocal about how they feel, specially boys and they never brought it up. One of our friends son agreed that they do have such negative environment in Calphin, Dublin, CA. He also goes there but doesnt like going but never spoke about his experience to his parents. I hope they get better with the kids who are coming to learn swimming and provide them positive environment.

Five yrs ago when we moved to Tri-valley, one of the very first things was finding a swimming school for my 3rd grade son. He had a very difficult time learning how to swim before we moved here.
Advantages:
1. Calphin's swimming pools are warm enough for beginners who are scared of water.
2. A lot of different levels for learners to study from the very beginning to four strokes.
3. I could reach the front desk easily during their office hrs. Before Covid19, there were always some slots for me to apply for a class change when my son had a time conflict among their class change policy.
4. The tests and level up requirements are not very easy because they have professional academic team(Including the world champion) to set up the standards. I myself agree with this test and level up strategy because swimming is a lifetime skill and a strong foundation is more important than leveling up fast.
One of my own experience:
If parents can't teach their kids how to swim or play in water with their kids consistently, and parents want their kids to level up quickly at the same time, what I did for my younger daughter was signing up more than one class for her every week. It worked very well for her since 30 mins per week is way too little. Since my husband and I can't swim, we are very appreciated that Calphin taught both my son and my daughter all four strokes and now both of them are in a local swim team.

If you are an adult beginner trying to learn swimming, then this place is NOT for you. I am a recent victim of this place. The facility does not care about adult beginner students. There are only a handful of classes for adults and the worst part is that in every adult class - all 3 levels ( beginner, intermediate and adult) have to be in the same lane with 1 coach. It feels like there is Tsumani in the pool. With beginners (level 1) splashing and practicing kicking with all their might on one end of the lane next to the wall. The experts (level 3) on the deep end of the pool and confident to swim entire length of the pool with fast strokes and the worst hit are the intermediate level 2 folks who have to stand in the middle of the pool with no wall on either side. They get constantly hit by beginners and experts from both sides and sandwiched with nowhere to practice. The coach is unable to manage all 3 levels at the same time and its chaotic bumping and smashing into each other and 0 practice. I begged to the management, even the coach requested to the management to separate the levels but noone cares. They are a money minting business. I strongly advise you all to save your money and energy and rather have a private swimming lesson in your local community pool.

I am a mother to a little boy, who was just told by a Calphin personnel that I cannot take him into the women's shower area, even though my son was fully dressed and standing under a shower. I totally understand their feedback that others may not be comfortable with a small boy in the women's shower, and I asked her where else can I take my son to use the hot shower. And I was told that there isn't a shower for a mother bringing her little boy to a swim class or a father bringing his little girl. All that they get is a family rest room where they could change. But no shower option! I wish they had established these in their website so we knew what we are getting into. Its appalling that we live in age of gender neutrality and equal rights regardless of what we identify as, and living in a liberal state like California, where we get told that a facility provides certain amenities like shower to certain set of people - a mother bringing her daughter and a father bringing his son get certain amenities, whereas if you are anything else like me - a mother bringing her son, certain amenities like shower are not available. Rude front desk staff, who can yell the rules but not lend an ear and answer customer's concern!! The staff themselves are great but I so wish they have such rules clearly called out in their website.

No make up policy for absence - either you get a non supervised swim time (where we have to be with him in the pool) or only if you bring a doctor certificate, cmon are you guys living in a cave? It’s a universal policy everywhere to allow for kids to make up for absences. What is the whole point of free swim time when your kid doesn’t know how to swim and we have to teach him in the pool? Absolutely ridiculous! Changing rooms are disgusting and dirty.

Their classes have too many students and their coaching is ineffective. Week after week you see your child making the same mistakes and the coaches do not adjust their attention to address the area where the child really needs help to improve.
And then after 10 weeks they just let you know your child isn't ready to graduate to the next level.
We did this two times thinking maybe our child just needed some additional practice.

My 5 year old just started her swimming classes in Aug mini fall session with calphin. The swimming water is cold and not adjusted with temperature outside and make kids shiver when sitting on stairs inside pool waiting for their turn. ( tbh: what i feel is every kid was shivering).
Their dismissal process is more pathetic. Everyone is asked to EVEN wrap themselves with towel outside the facility on the road. Now since winter is arpund the corner and its quite windy in evening, that is not quite good idea to change in open after being in cold water for almost 30 min and specially kids ,end up catching cold.
Think before enrolling. i did raised the issue but no action is taken as it is under upper management and evem the lady told me, its not only my concern but everyone but still NoONe cares.

Their coaches are really inattentive, and ineffective. My wife and daughter barely learnt anything here and had to take separate private lessons from elsewhere to make progress. I’d really not recommend this place to anyone!

It's a good school to have kids learn swimming. My daughter has been taught swimming by Coach Rebecca for a long time. Rebecca is amazing. She corrects the kids swimming posture, which is very important of improving the speed. The deducted point is because the school doesn't offer make up class if you miss it. They only offer self-practice.

Very rigid rules for missed classes. They would like us to re-enroll in the next session, but will not agree to use missed class credits in the next session. Same with the coupon they provide for self-swimming. It is only valid for a session.

Really bad coach! He spent 15min out of an hour session letting kids sitting by the wet , cold pool sites to “meditate” in an one hour training session. He is nowhere qualified to be a coach!!!

Really bad front desk experience long waiting. Reached front office at 6.05 , in order to talk front desk you have to get a token which not displayed properly after 10 minutes I came to know about this, later end up standing there for another 50 minutes to talk front desk. I felt there is not enough staff in front desk it self , i got token 50 and she handling token 27 when I reach there. Almost all parents were holding tokens to talk front desk, there is only one staff to handle this. This was my first experience when I reach front desk to check about the classes.

No hay lugar de estacionamiento y es una escuela de natación con sobrecupo, para que fuera 5 estrellas necesitaría tener menos estudiantes (por cierto los asiáticos no respetan las reglas y hay muchos ahí).

The school is not as good as before. My kids start to complain the water being too cold, coach looks very layback and not much teaching happening during the entire class. Kids are pretty much keep swimming on their own. I will not go back anymore if they don't improve, it's waste of time.

It is too bad to change the teacher and the class time at will. The bathroom is very special and chaotic, and the parking is difficult. Many people bring big boys to wash the bathroom.

The staff are friendly and the facility is clean! The business owner did a great job focusing on the Western touch (aesthetics and hiring good customer service staff). The coaches are great. My kids took swimming lessons at the neighborhood community pool and they honestly didn't learn much. We were recommended by a friend to check out Calphin and our kids now know how to swim. We're happy with Calphin. One negative I would say is the limited parking. We pick non popular times for swim lessons just to get parking.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! Every aspect of this place is to help you swim and improve. Even though the coaches are not in the water with you (for higher levels) it does not really matter to me because they can see your strokes from above, giving a better perspective than when you are in the water. It means that they can really help you improve because they can see what you are doing wrong. They are so helpful when they emphasis what you are doing wrong and how to fix it, so you really can. The coaches pushes you, to me, means that they really care on you improving.

The water is cold and your trainer will not help you swim they will stand there without getting into the water to help you out. To me, the water is kind of hot and cold at the same time. Also, the showers are not what you think they are. They are actually showers without curtains. It is a public shower. Your children will not be able to handle to take off their clothes and take a shower without curtains. But if your child can take a shower without curtains that is okay. There is only one person to help out. There can be more than 1 person swimming but only 1 person to help them out.
