I will always appreciate the time and care that the staff always provide to my daughter. She enjoy the camps but I want to say that dance was her fav. Overall I would always share with any parent that it take a tribe to help raise the kids. Thank You “Y” for this.

The front doors and every other door in the facility is heavy and has no handicap assist. Other YMCA’s have handicapped assist buttons to let you get in the front door.

Response to the response. The doors are not “open during business hours” they are simply unlocked. They’re heavy and they close fast. I bet they’re not in compliance with 1133B.2 of the California Building Code. I have no way of measuring the opening force or speed. Why don’t you tell us what it is and when you measured it? Try and open the door yourself. Let me know if you think that takes 5 pounds of force or is it more like 25 pounds?

You make no mention of putting a handicap assist button on the door, like other YMCA, because you’re not going to do it. You don’t want to spend the money. That’s the reason. I continue to struggle with the door as do many other people.

Update: 9/13/24To their credit the ymca adjusted the door closers to make them easier to open the door and slower to close. Added one star back

I recently contacted the YMCA and was fortunate to speak with Daniella over the phone. I must say, I was thoroughly impressed with her professionalism and helpfulness. Daniella took the time to listen to my inquiries and provided me with detailed information regarding a schedule that would work best for my child's abilities.

What stood out to me the most was Daniella's patience and willingness to assist without making me feel rushed or pressured. Her knowledge of the programs and services offered by the YMCA was evident, and she went above and beyond to ensure that all my questions were answered satisfactorily.

I truly appreciate Daniella's exceptional customer service and the positive experience she provided during our conversation.

We have terrible experience with the front desk. The front desk worker either not trained well or YMCA has terrible rules. My kid got a fever on the morning of the first day of swimming class. So I have asked the front desk to help out in moving the class for my kid to the next available since my kid will be sick for couple of days. I have not asked for a cancelation, but rather moving the class to a different time. They replied and said they cannot help! I hope somebody of the management can take responsibility and being accountable to take care of this. When I came first time to YMCA, they said they want everyone to use YMCA witnesses of access and love. However, I see the opposite. I see YMCA attention is collecting money and give their members a hard time of communication. I think this multinational club should not be running on this strategy encouraging people to leave the club.

The friendliest staff & rpofessional trainers in a beautiful gym.
I enjoy the body pump classes, my husband swims in the outdoor pool & my son stays in shape in the weight / equipment rooms.
There's something for everybody at the Camarillo Y.
If you're looking for a gym you can feel comfortable in at any age, weight and your level of physicality.
Our family highly recommends the Camarillo YMCA.

I am a big fan of the Camarillo Family YMCA. Specifically, my children really enjoy the swimming programs as well as the basketball league. The new sports director, Bryn, is awesome! She has made an immediate impact. I really appreciate her communication skills and her ability to quickly make the basketball league more organized. She constantly seeks feedback and works diligently to implement improvements.

For example, the older leagues now have access to the Boys & Girls Club gym which provides a larger basketball court. This is great for player development and I'm sure was not an easy improvement to make. Also, the player skills assessments at the beginning of the season ran quite smoothly under Bryn's direction. There is also a summer basketball league option this year (for the first time I believe), which is an excellent, accessible opportunity for players to keep their skills sharp over the summer.

If you have children who may be interested in sports, I recommend giving the YMCA a try. I think your family will enjoy it!

This Y has a great number of Group X classes. All are taught by very professional instructors who care about their students. A great variety of classes for all abilities including senior citizen classes. They are always adding new classes. I go there 3 times a week, seems more and more people are attending classes as the parking lot gets fuller right before the hour. I highly recommend the Camarillo YMCA

The YMCA in Camarillo is my home away from home for my wife, my son and myself. I enjoy the pool and my wife participates in 3-4 different group exercise classes each week. We are always greeted by the friendly staff on a first name basis. I love having the youth around the pool being properly challenged and trying new things. I appreciate when minor issues are addressed immediately by management. Throughout the years I have made many longterm friends and at my ripe old age, its good to have sincere friends who look out for eachother. I have been a YMCA member for twenty years and Camarillo is by far my favorite. I look forward to another twenty years at the Y.

I love the YMCA! I enjoy the classes and the teachers. There is a good variety, but room for more. It’s nice to see them fixing up machines that had been broken for a while. Lots of great events for the community. If you like the classes, you’ll find the cost to be beyond reasonable. I’d recommend to my friends, many of which I’ve met at the Y.

I have been a member at many, many, many gyms over the years. They each had their benefits however none of them begin to compare with the Camarillo YMCA. The staff are SUPERB, they offer a huge amount of classes that are all EXCELLENT, the members are DIVERSE, ENTHUSIASTIC and FRIENDLY, the facility is CLEAN, they seek and respond to MEMBER FEEDBACK and suggestions, they contribute in countless ways to the COMMUNITY and they GET TO KNOW YOU and call you by your name. Disgusting bathrooms, old men harassing the girls trying to work out, staff refused to change channels on television and the price is almost double a single membership at golds gym. Steer clear of this place..and keep in mind they do not mention they require a 30 day cancellation notice so if you’re thinking about “trying out the Y” for a month, you’ll need to sign a cancellation policy the same day as you sign up—totally absurd.

During the Fall of 2020, I became a member of YMCA Camarillo through the Silver Sneakers program in order to use their gym facilities. I started using the weight room three times per week and found all the resistance training and cardio equipment I needed. I was pleased to find the gym, the exercise machines and the treadmills were kept very clean and always accessible.

During 2021 a friend and YMCA member recommended that I sign up and start participating in the exercise classes offered in the mornings. I started by showing up at the Body Pump class on a Tuesday. Coach Deanna let me in the class and explained participation is limited in number so in the future I should sign up in advance through the YMCA website.

Coach Deanna is very friendly and encouraging. She makes the Body Pump class more like a personalized training camp with lots of individualized instruction. I have gained strength, flexibility, endurance and added muscle while losing body fat. I love Deanna's class and consistently attend YMCA Body Pump twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Later I started attending the YMCA Zumba class that immediately follows Body Pump in the same room on Fridays. Coach Aurora is very friendly and her class on Mondays and Fridays is energized fun. Aurora is an impressive outgoing person that supports various community service projects. She knows every class member by their first name and is well liked by all her students.

For the past six months I have also been participating in the YMCA Cycle (spinning) Class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I walked into the Cycle class to check it out even though I had never previously learned how to ride a bike. On my first day Coach Brenda helped set up the bike for my size and gave me individualized instruction to get me started. She pays close attention to all her students, watching them and calling out encouragement to each by name. The class is great cardio exercise and it has really strengthened my core and lower body. The back pain that used to shoot down my leg is now gone. This class is awesome fun and is always full so it is important to sign up through the YMCA website in advance.

Front desk staff are always helpful, friendly and accomodating. The facility is immaculate!

All of the classes at the YMCA are fun and worthwhile. The instructors put so much of themselves into every class. They care about every student and are true professionals. the YMCA is a great place to get fit and stay fit with family and new friends.

I am just finishing my first year at the Camarillo YMCA and I’d like to share some thoughts. I believe there are three forms health: physical, emotional and social. After many years and many different gym experiences, the YMCA has been the only organization that has strengthened all three of these forms.
Personally, I find the group exercise classes are the best fit for me. I started a bit self-conscious and definitely not at my physical best. I was in car accident that damaged the muscles in my left arm and couldn’t lift it beyond my shoulder. I was in discomfort most of the time. In addition, my muscles had pretty much gone to seed during COVID. I knew I needed to get it together so I “dipped my toe in” with the Boom and Zumba classes, finding that they didn’t just provide exercise, they are fun. I quickly found that my energy level increased and my balance improved. Then I was recruited (and encouraged) by the instructor of Total Body and Fit Body to try her class. Honestly, I wasn’t sure I could do it, but she reassured me and she was right! The changes in my body have been shocking. I am probably in the best shape I’ve ever been in. I can actually see muscle! Finally, I added Body Pump. This class has really increased my strength. I feel healthier and more energetic than I have in years. And my left arm? I can actually lift it! Most notably though, for the first time in my experience instructors pay attention to form ensuring that we don’t injure ourselves. I guess the simplest way to say it is that they care. However, this is only the physical side.
I can’t even begin to express the effect that these classes have had on my emotional health. I didn’t foresee this at all, but my confidence has seriously increased. I’m energized and happy.
Finally, something I really didn’t expect, this is truly a community. The participants are like family, but that’s only because the instructors provide an environment that fosters this feeling. I’m not just referring to the potlucks and celebrations (although those have been wonderful), I’m talking about text messages checking on me if I miss a class and encouraging note cards letting me know that I’m progressing. Perhaps this comes from 35 of teaching, but those little things mean a lot!
While I wish there was a way to express my sincere appreciation more fully, all I can say is THANK YOU!

Wanted to share my experience with the YMCA in the time of COVID-19. Saturday was my first day back at the physical site. I had been doing some classes virtually, but wanted to try their new system out. I took Deanna's Core class. I had to register for it ahead of time, but the process was easy. The class itself was great. A small group met outside on the blacktop, 6 ft away from each other. We did not have to wear masks while exercising, but they have a thorough check-in procedure with a temp check, waiver, and sanitizer. I felt very safe and comfortable there. They moved the gym equipment to two rooms now, and you don't even need to use your hands to open the restroom door anymore! So if anyone was thinking of going to the Y again, I can highly recommend it!

We absolutely love the YMCA Summer Camps. My son has been a camper for over 5 years now. I am constantly amazed at the friendships has developed over these summers. The counselors are always amazing and open to parent input or questions. The variety of camps are wonderful. We can really customize his summer activities - the stem and science camps are personal favs. I highly recommend the Y summer camps! I am going to be sad when my son aged out. :(

This review is specifically for the summer camp. There are legitimate safety issues with this facility. I would strongly recommend any family think twice about bringing their children here. Below is a list of things to be concerned about.

1. There is more than one instance of a child being misplaced that we are aware of (including our own).
2. The counselors were telling the children to drink non-potable water from the hand wash stations near the port-o-potties (non-potable means not safe for drinking). Luckily the children read the sign and figured it out themselves.
3. The children in this overcrowded facility share 4 disgusting port-o-potties. Many children were holding in their bathroom breaks because of this.
4. Our child got legitimately injured during a field trip and they did not inform us.
5. There is almost no indoor space for the campers so they cook all day in the sun.
6. Some of the counselors speak to the children in a not so nice way to keep them in line. I know children can be difficult to handle, but I have not seen this in any other facility I've taken my children to. The counselors need to be more mature and probably need better training.

Both my babies have gone here for both summer camp (since before they started K) and after school camp (since K). Now they're going into 3rd grade and we are always thankful for the amazing staff and the high level of care they receive.

Over the past few years, my kids have been in everything from horseback riding camp to robotics camp, and cooking camp to sports camp. If they have ever not fully loved the camp, the staff was more than accommodating and let them switch (even though we signed a contract and they had 0 obligation to let us do so).

My kids ASK to go to camp and ask us to pick them up late so they can spend more time at the Y. They are in an environment that is not only fun for them, but has kept them safe and helped them grow.

Paige is the best and has hired the best staff - it's your best choice in Camarillo for child care!

Horrible summer camp programs. For the amount of money we paid for our kids is really not worth it. There is no structure at all. The descriptions of each program on the websites were not Implemented. My kids went home everyday complaining how bored they were. It should be a fun experience where kids want to return everyday but it was definitely not the case. A miserable 3 weeks. They even changed the field trip schedule without any email notification. When I asked the lead supervisor all she said was it’s always been the same since June but we registered in April. A simple email would have been acceptable. I would NOT recommend their programs to anyone.

Join the Camarillo Y if you are looking for a supportive environment to work out and - or unique programs for the entire family.
The Y team and staff makes it happen day after day – thank you to Megan, Paige, Erica, Brian, Deanna, the staff and instructors. They are there through the wonderful and difficult days – ready with a smile, encouragement, or just a quick hello.
The classes keep me going – spin, CX, and body breakthrough are my current favorites. Still body bump, body combat, and yoga are also on my wish list. The personal training sessions I completed helped with strength and form.
Lastly, but not least, I had various teenage kids in the family join the CIT – Counselor in Training – Y Summer Camp program. They had an excellent time and I could trust that they were in good hands.
In a nutshell, I have been a member since 2006 and highly recommend the Camarillo Y …

The daycare is far and away the best thing about this facility and the best gym daycare in Camarillo. If you have spent anytime researching this, you have to agree! Other gyms just sit your kids in a dark room with a giant TV. Not at the Camarillo Y!! There’s a great playground outside for exercise, and indoors there’s great toys—and staff is hands-on with crafts and games and puzzles. Is the gym facility small? Yes. But does it get the job done? Yes, and really a great workout is up to YOU. The HIIT classes with Shannon and Paula are killer. The Zumba gals have a swinging time. Body Pump, Yoga, Kickboxing and other classes are always a great workout and fun time. All other staff is friendly and they really try to honor any comment cards or feedback that members suggest. The kids programs and sports are laid back and I love that the goal is good sportsmanship, skills development, and team work (instead of other intense league sports where kids are pressured into thinking winning is the only thing that matters). As you can tell our little family has been happy here at the Y over the last few years, and while we’ve been tempted to join more sophisticated high-end gyms many times, we’ve chosen to stay at the ymca because of the daycare and the comfortable cozy homey vibe. :)

This Ymca has been such a blessing to my family. We moved here from out of state and quickly joined the Ymca. Little did i know i was joining more than a gym. My 3 boys love going to the daycare which in my opinion is what sets this gym apart from others i could have chosen. One of my sons impartially loves a worker in the daycare named Dana and we come in Thursday’s just to see her. It’s like one big family with the staff. Everyone is friendly and willing to help. As a stay at home mom, sometimes my only adult conversation is when i pass in the halls some of the sweet staff members there who have become great friends and they will ask you about your kids and your life. They really genuinely care about you as an individual. Erika over sports is amazing and very well organized and it’s been a much improvement from years past. Sweet Paige has candy at her desk my kids love to stop by and say hi for a treat. She is always planning such fun events my kids attend that is open to the public. Paula is one of the instructors and she is very good at what she does as well as a happy smile to see every time i go in. Then there’s Meghan she is the director at this location and she is the best. I can’t say enough good things about her. She knows all my kids names, she is friendly, and a listening ear. My kids love going in and saying hi to her. I know she is super busy but she always takes the time to say hi and for these reasons and many more is why i just couldn’t ever see myself picking a gym over this Ymca.
