Hey guys - went to swim laps just now, got to the pool, and it was closed. Gal at the counter said it was getting resurfaced. Can you you push these types of updates to your patrons, so we are aware? Last update we got on the text updates was 11a 11/22 saying the pool was open. Nothing indicating it's current closure. . .

So, I go inside to get a workout and 3 min into it, one of your trainers barks over to me that Crocs aren't allowed. Does so with no discretion. Like 8 different people stopped working out to stare at what could have been a way less confrontational issue.

On that token, who on earth cares if someone is working out in Crocs? They provide no less protection than half the barefoot and training shoes out there. Ridiculous thing to gripe about. Especially considering your pool was closed and one of the workout machines was down for maintenance that I was planning to use. This is exactly why I workout at home - sometimes barefoot. I don't have to deal with stupid rules like this.

This review is also not relegated to the experience I just encountered but we've also had many of our kids swim lessons either canceled or played the whack a mole instructors game because the instructors either call in, or the Y can't keep folks on staff. This has made it very difficult for our kids to feel safe and comfortable enough with instructors to get something out of the lessons, which are already chaotic.

Another issue we're not crazy about is the lack of child watch options during certain hrs, especially lunch, when people most need it. Child watch is part of the value proposition of the Y for many folks and when you degrade those services, it cuts out some of the value of maintaining a membership.

Gym is small but clean and has everything you need. Staff is nice and helpful. Childwatch has improved greatly over the past few years that I’ve been a member. They are doing great at focusing on the children rather than just chat among themselves. My only complaint is the group class they have going on, on some days, take over the only free space the gym has instead of staying within the assigned exercise classes room. It is very inconvenient if the gym is just slightly full plus their music blasting can become annoying.

I came here with my family to enjoy the pool, but we were subjected to listening to another guest’s loud music. They also brought their dog, which was allowed in the pool area despite clearly not being a service animal and having no identification indicating as such. Not only is one of my daughters afraid of dogs because she was bitten when she was young in a similar situation—where dogs weren’t allowed, the staff didn’t enforce their rules, and she was bitten as a result—but it is also disgusting to have their visibly dirty dog, which was unmistakably not a service animal, next to the pool. The lifeguards enforce other safety rules very strictly in all other situations but let this guest seemingly do as he pleases, even after multiple complaints from other guests. I was informed that music is allowed as long as it is family-friendly, regardless of complaints from other guests. You can be sure that next time we come, I am bringing my speaker to play my loud and obnoxious family-friendly music unless the official posted rules are changed. I hope everyone enjoys listening to “Baby Shark” on repeat.

I’ve been using the Santee YMCA for a while now, and it’s honestly one of the better gyms I’ve been a part of. The staff are consistently friendly and approachable - they say hi when you walk in and are always available if you need help or have a question, but they’re not overbearing.

The gym itself is really clean, which I appreciate. The equipment is in good shape, and I rarely see anything out of order. Even the locker rooms are kept up nicely, with working showers, plenty of space, and no weird smells - which, let’s be honest, is not always the case in gyms.

One of my favorite things is that it’s not usually crowded, even during busier times. I don’t feel rushed or like I’m constantly waiting for machines. It’s easy to get in, do your workout, and go without the usual gym frustration.

The pool is also great . it’s well-maintained, and there’s usually room to swim laps without bumping into people.

Overall, the vibe here is low-key and welcoming.

Registered for parent kid classes with my 5 mos baby .. they promised a heated pool .. but only the first class we got a heated and the next two were cold . Now my baby is sick . On confronting the main desk they mentioned its my duty to check before entering the pool 🙁

First time visitor to this wonderful facility this Tuesday morning in July, I was absolutely thrilled with the environment: mothers and children laughing and playing, everybody's smiling, and the Men's Locker Room was clean, bright and spotless! A special thanks and recommendation to Mathew at the Front Desk, who was simply magnificent! 10 stars out of 10! I'll soon be back to this terrific Cameron Family YMCA in lovely Santee.

Pool is too cold for classes and just walking in shallow part. Been missing my exercise classes cause water is too cold. Been told heater isn’t working right. Monthly fees are high and I don’t know why the facility can’t regulate the water temperature. This is unhealthy and frustrating since this is how I stay fit but these last few months have been bad where I can’t work out in pool. Why!!!!

I hate to leave a bad review because the Y was always a great place for kids’ activities…but the gymnastics program for girls is just awful. I enrolled both my girls (5 & 6) in beginner’s gymnastics. There are 8+ girls in every class with one instructor. The majority of the time the girls have absolutely zero instruction and just play around on the bars waiting for their turn that never comes. Half the time the instructor was looking around the gym not even interacting with the girls. The cost comes out to roughly $33/session per kid for them to just stretch and then learn nothing. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Thank you for my membership that doesn't deserve me as I do not show it love for it's worthiness in use. I have not been able to get to the gym or gymnastics since I have been ill due to a "Steady Gas Leak" SDGE called it- once leaving my home that killed my service animal ANGEL- toy poodle/ therapy love of my life. I am posting a 5 review for the Gymnastics open gym with ADULTS SUNDAYS... will this be happening still? The break for covid must have happened and over, but I am super grateful as my daughter was able to excel in her Volleyball sports with YMCA and gain confidence with the other through exploring gym and fitness classes. My daughters both were able to perform better in school and sports due to the peers that helped and coached. We felt safe with the peers and saw the maturity level almost equal sometimes for the replacements that happened on time and quickly. Thank you for my daughters gymnastic lessons and performance that has turned skiing into one of her greatest strengths, natural at dancing and rhythm, also such a strong swimmer- also YMCA courses and guided by family as all of us shoveled them in and also were able to do laps in the covered indoor sections at other gyms. This gym has a play area in the pool or did before and we were unable to attend as gymnastics was in the winter and fall months and they will love the idea as the eldest has her license to drive soon! Grateful but almost dropped the 3 star review for honesty as the gym was above me on the single tall beam and there was a man staring at my behind in the video we captured there. Yikes. He was on the top floor and my daughter was filming. There is also a day for the kids at open gym, but she was old enough to join us there so I was actually ready to leave and that was our last visit there since. Thank you! Sports continue, and after gas leak I am thin enough to spin on the bars, and we will look out better next time with a better announcement. It's on my insta online somewhere, and I will post it here if I run into it for you. It was silly but could be dangerous too. Thank you for taking this into your office for consideration of a wall or other entertainment than watching us - actually nice for the mothers and dads supervising, but they can also sit in if they need to. Thank you again. My nieces IPhone 14 and another girls phone was stolen today between the hours 5:00 PM to 5:50 PM. They were asked if they had cameras and they were told that they would have to ask the owners. Make sure you store your valuables in a safe location. I hope they take action and do something about this.

I think the YMCA is great we have had lots of fun during pool time at this location.
That being said... The big slide was open this summer (we have gone precious summers and it wasn't) and though they check kids height at the front gate apparently they recheck at the top of the slide, but no one tells you that!
My tall kid was tall enough at the gate, waited 10 minutes in line to go down the slide, and then was turned away at the top. He had to walk back down the steps, cried the whole way as he passed all the other kids who get to ride.
If you're going to recheck these kids height do it at the bottom of the slide so they don't have to go through the emotional rollercoaster of disappointment, embarrassment, and shame. My kid was SO upset and honestly rightfully so!

Friendly staff and very nice facilities. I use the pool and the gym, mostly early in the morning but sometimes on Saturdays as well. The gym equipment is new and everything is kept clean. I also have a 24HR Fitness membership, but I started using the gym here because it's much less crowded, so I can actually get a workout in. The pool is way better than any of the 24HR fitness pools. Plus a membership here gets you a membership to all the Y's in San Diego County, which is great for adjusting your workout schedule. On another note, this facility received a lot of flak for the locker room incident, but that is in no way their fault as they are doing their best to be inclusive of an evolving society. They are in no position to place judgement on an individual because of their personal choices, and simply became the "whipping boy" of a society that could use a little more compassion and a lot less criticism.

Worst place, bad experience. Bad customer service. Worst management.i registered for swimming class for the entire family and I paid already the amount they asked for I prepared myself for the classes that they were supposed to be on Saturday! They called me Friday at 5 pm and said your classes it canceled because was a mistake on the registration and you can not come tomorrow for the lesson! I told them then how you already charged me almost $500 and waited for the whole 2 weeks to contact me! I need to speak to your manger, she said the manger left and I let her call you on Monday I’ll leave a note for her! I waited until Monday and no body called me! + on Friday I told her cancel my membership and refund my money nothing happened still got charged and my $500 still not in my account. I have been a long-standing member of the YMCA for decades. I have volunteered at numerous events, fundraised, and donated for years. My account has been on auto pay for forever, and a simple oversight with my debit card expiring caused my membership to be cancelled. When I realized that my dues had not been withdrawn for two months, I tried calling member services. I left 7 different voicemails and not a single return phone call. I went into the facility and was told I could restart my membership but wouldn't get the legacy rate I had been paying previously. If I wanted to wait, they would email management for approval, and someone would get back to be within 48 hours. 13 more days went by, and I never heard from anyone, so I went back into the facility and was told that the request had been denied. When I asked when and who contacted me, I didn't get a response, just that the person was told the request had been denied and someone supposedly contacted me. I was tired of their games and was just going to pay the new rate until I was told I also had to pay an additional joining fee. I didn't voluntarily cancel my membership; it was an oversight that I tried to rectify but no one ever returned any of my phone calls or emails. I asked to speak with a manager and of course there wasn't anyone available however, I did get their email. I sent an email that night explaining the situation and requesting resolution. Fast forward another week and surprisingly, I still have not heard from the "Membership Director". I am starting to think this is an intentional way for them to make more money. If they ignore the problem long enough the member will eventually concede and pay. This has been the worst customer experience I have encountered in a very long time. I've exhausted all avenues to make contact and no one cares to respond. I have made the ultimate decision to forget my pursuit to getting my membership back. It's unfortunate that it came down to this but, if the YMCA can't show me the same CARE, HONESTY, RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY that I have shown them for decades, then they don't deserve my financial support or any more of my time.

FYI...big water slides do not work.

Took my two kids here for some pool time, and was excited to get them on the water slide (saw pictures)...only to find out they don't work. Been off for a while, and no ETA on getting them fixed according to the life guards. Besides that...great splash pad for kiddos that 6 or under. Swam some laps...also great. Facility looked newer, parking was easy, and if I lived in Santee I think I would be a regular.

A lot of unreasonable rules. You don't need use mask for cardio but you have to use for other machines in same space. Between them couple foots. Before pandemic, they never let turn off fans, everybody had to work with wind, so cold, reason "stop seperate viruses". Now they don't let turn on fans, reason "may cause separate Covid 19". I had a very bad experience with this location. They did not communicate with me that my daughters swim lesson was cancelled and when I asked them about it I was not refunded for the course. I will not recommend this location to anyone I know because I had a very bad experience with them. I asked multiple people about the same issue and I got a different response from each one. Very unprofessional. I had paid for 4 lessons, the first one was cancelled without notice. The second and third were not effective and the trainer did not show up on the fourth one.

I dont understand how my kids will learn gymnastics when the coaches just tell them to do a move once and expect them to perfect it in 4 sessions. They dont even teach on how to do the move if they are struggling they just supervise and say "good". My kids have been held back 3 times now because they cant do a cart wheel...then teach them how to do a cart wheel! Last time I sign my kids up for this program.

Gym is ok, but do not come here if you need a functional locker room. They recently "renovated" it and it has regressed to the point of unusable. Lockers the size of a shoebox hold nothing. Sinks with no counter space, and no shelving in showers to hold soap or other basic items. Locker room looks pretty but is not functional in any way. If the YMCA paid even a dime for this renovation, they were ripped off. I will be driving the extra 20 minutes and going to McGrath.

Terrible place to take your kids swimming! Not enough chairs, pool always crowded, zombies for staff. We went and paid 24 dollars for me and my 2 kids to swim for about an 1 hour and a half before they close (for cleaning) until 3:30 and they open up again. We couldn’t even do that since they had a poop in the pool emergency and kicked us out of the pool. Did they refund my money? Nope. Swallowed those funds up and gave us guest passes, as if we want to go back there again. Avoid like the plague! McGrath YMCA near us is better.

Staff is great. Can't wait till the remodel is finished. Santee is getting pretty crowded though, not sure if it will accommodate for the amount of people in the area.

Imma give the pool area a 3 starts because I just think there is too much rules: no jumping, no splashing, No phones near the pool, etc. When kids go to the pool they enjoy get wet by jumping in or splashing so that is just to muck rules like splashing in the pool won’t kill anyone.

Nice facility to visit and work out. The aquatics area is quite the water park for the kids to have fun. Also a heated lap pool to wirk oug in. Staff was very friendly and informative as well.

Cameron Family YMCA is a great option for a health club. It has a pool, a work out room, a cardio area, and a gymnastics floor. They offer classes from mild to wild. I love doing cardio on the machines here. All my kids learned to swim here.

I have always enjoyed coming here. The prices were great but they recently changed the non Santee resident price to $9 a person. It's a bit much if you're just driving over from Lakeside. Otherwise the Lifeguard staff is great. The wait time was great. The pool was clean and I like that the lifeguards do rotations to ensure none of them get too sleepy and Nod off. I cannot contribute a photo because you're not allowed to take photos inside. I'm not complaining because I understand why but it would be nice to take a picture of your kids playing.

What an affordable way to cool off all summer with the family. We can eat swim and play... During the winter working out or gym for the family keeps us out of the house.

Worst location I asked for a swim refund about two weeks prior to swim classes and I called to check the status of my refund and I have different people telling me about my refund process about me having to take my kids back to fill up the same refund and that I will received my refund which has been expedited. this location has wasted my time just trying to get a refund for classes my son will not be attending at this location

We went to the splash pad on Sunday sep 30. There were many kids there and on one side were several little white blond kids and my brown son. Every time the various kids would do something such as jump, the whistle was only blown at him. One time the lifeguard was telling him something and the two girls did the exact same whilst he was talking with no notice. I appreciate safety rules as we are law enforcement family but maybe apply rules to more than the brown kids.
