One of the best Muay Thai gyms in the area. Highly recommend it for folks anywhere along their martial arts journey, whether just beginning, for fitness, for fights, or just to push yourself to the next level. The gym is very well maintained and clean, huge space with lots of pads and bags, and the coaches are always helping out and giving feedback.

One thing I always tell people looking for gyms is to feel out the atmosphere and vibe of the members that go there. Everyone here is super chill, helpful, and happy to be here. No egos or hurt feelings, just hard work. Great third space. Welcome anyone interested to try out for a week and see for themselves.

I feel very fortunate to have found Carillo Muay Thai. The coaches are friendly, approachable, and extremely knowledgeable. I learn something new in every class.

When I first started, I was concerned because I wasn't in great shape and had no prior combat experience. But I quickly found that I could pick up the techniques and combinations while also getting a great cardio workout. It's the best workout I've ever done--and the added bonus is that I'm learning a valuable skill.

One of my favorite things about Carillo Muay Thai is that it doesn't feel like just a cardio class. I feel as if I'm training for a competition.

The other members I've partnered with have been nothing but supportive and willing to help. I've always felt welcomed and have never felt brushed aside for being new.

REAL MUAY THAI. Coach Jean Carrillo, Coach Danny & All the coaches are personable, knowledgeable and all good people. The coaches and the gym care about the students & make sure no one feels out of place. The gym is clean! Obviously there are workouts taking place so yes you can find some sweat but it’s always cleaned up and sanitized. If there is even a slight drop of the blood a whole sanitizing event takes place. If anyone has an ego, coaches do a great job at checking that at the door. You want traditional Muay Thai? Carrillo Muay Thai is the place. This place feels like a home. Coach carillo has decades training and teaching Muay Thai. Has been the coach to some of the biggest names in Muay Thai and mma. Love this place. Always looking forward to the next class. Carrilo Muay Thai all day!

I've been training here for many years! I wouldn't change it for anything! The atmosphere, the cleanliness, the vibe! Coach Jean Carrillo's experience and good vibes! His patience and, above all, his experience are what motivate me, even after a day, to join not just a gym, but a family! I recommend it 100%.

Carrillo Muay Thai has become one of the very best things to happen to me. The gym is kept clean, it’s constantly being disinfected before and after workouts. Coach Carrillo, Danny, and Jacob are extremely knowledgeable. The students become family. I walked into the gym not having much martial arts experience , I’m a year into training now and still have a long way to go, but feel more prepared than ever to defend myself in any given situation. If you’re lucky enough to live within the proximate of this gym and can start going regularly you will not regret it.

I had some time off of work a few weeks ago and decided to do a drop-in at Carillo Muay Thai even though I live in L.A...

I've been training Muay Thai for 25+ years, so I know pretty quickly when a gym is legit or not. I only trained there for one day, but I immediately felt "right" when I walked in.

Jean greeted me when I walked in, and as is customary for guests when visting a gym, we talked about where I've trained and realized we knew a lot of the same people. My main coaches even had photos on his walls!

The class itself was great. I didn't realize I dropped in on their sparring class which always makes me nervous in a new school because you never know what their sparring culture is like. Thankfully, their sparring style is very much like in Thailand. Controlled and respectful. Jean started off every round with some instructions (boxing only for this round, kicks included now, etc) and as the bell rang he'd say, "Be nice, guys" which is always good to hear.

The other students were very skilled and very controlled, so even an out of shape older guy like me could survive an hour straight of sparring!

Even though I only paid for the day, Jean even offered me to come in for free the next day. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it, but I'll definitely be back another day!

I started back in December with no experience. I walked in checked out the environment and it was nothing but hard working men and women who wanted to get better. Everyone is respectful with the experience you walk in at the door. Having an open mind and being willing to learn is a huge thing that I learned at the gym. All the coaches treat you with respect and family.

This place is great. Carrillo Muay Thai focuses on pad work more than any other Muay Thai gym I've been to. Everyone is really kind and welcoming, especially to beginners and newcomers. If you want to learn real Muay Thai, don't hesitate to try it out. Unfortunately I had to leave because of my work schedule, but would have stayed for years otherwise.

Also, I never had an issue with the cancellation or billing. No idea what some of the other reviewers are talking about.

Coach Jean changed my life.

Before joining the gym, I was arrogant, insecure, and judgmental. Bad thoughts plagued my mind daily.

I always thought that people were trying to sell something to me. But I realized: in life, everyone is selling something.

What this gym is selling is worth every single penny.

You just have to see it for yourself. I highly recommend!

Great place to train for beginners and experienced folks alike. I've been to quite a few gyms, and this gym has all the qualities you would find in a great gym: great coaches who care about technique and safety, a clean training environment, and a great community of people to train with and to push you to become better. Coach Jean and his coaches are worth learning from, so much so that they don't try to lock you down with a 6 or 12 month contract like other schools do. I cannot recommend this place enough, definitely one of the best places to train in Southern California. Thank you Coach Jean!

The coaches there are professional and on time, they also go around during training correcting students one on one which helped me advance and appreciate their commitment to making me a better fighter. The classes are filled with students who make it fun to train because they are skilled, which helps me advance as well. To put in short, it felt like home very quickly. I definitely recommend this gym if your looking for high energy, sweat dripping, knowledgeable Muay Thai training.

After not training thai Boxing for over 20 years I finally decided to go back and try again. I was somewhat apprehensive at first but was pleasantly surprised by the level of friendliness and professionalism by the couch and the members. The place is tidy and clean. The coach is truely a character and had great credibility himself and having trained fighters such as Jon Jones and others, yet he has no ego, no attitude and is there to help and answer any question. A truely good person. Highly recommend for both people looking to take it serious and those who are looking for a good solid physical workout. As my old coach used to say, "There is no fit like fight fit". And after being a gym member and palying other sports all my life I can truely attest to this...

No ego + no attitude as stated on the website embodies the culture of this gym. I travel for work and have the opportunity to visit many gyms. Carrillo Muay Thai stands out! As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted by Coach Jean Carrillo himself. After signing the necessary waivers I was straight on the mats. The cleanliness, instruction, students, and coaches were exceptional. There was definitely a family vibe with everyone, veteran students and newbies alike, focused on helping one another improve. During pad rounds, Coach Carrillo was present, attentive, and supportive working with each student to hone technique and highlighting nuances. At the conclusion of the class, Coach Carrillo and the students personally welcomed each new student by name. A welcome doesn’t get any warmer than that. I cannot recommend this gym enough. I will be returning to practice here.

I recently spent about a month in Thailand and decided to watch some of the true Muay Thai fights in the heart of Thailand. I was instantly drawn to the culture and sport and wanted to find a place when I got home to Orange County that has the same qualities and traditions of the Muay Thai I saw in Thailand. I did some research and came across Coach Jean and Carrillo Muay Thai. I am about 4 years out of shape doing no physical activity and no martial arts background so I was quite nervous but wanted to really investigate the sport and art more. The most important thing to me was that it was authentic and not for show. I wanted to make sure the respect for the Thai culture and Muay Thai the way I saw it in Thailand. I went in on a Thursday night to see the gym and talk to Coach Jean. After spending about 30 minutes with him and watching the environment, I thought I would give it a try. I showed up the following morning and got one of the hardest work outs of my life and learned quite a lot about the form and foundation of Muay Thai. I was surprised how involved the coach was, educating and teaching in a very clear, understandable way and giving strategies to immediately implement into training. I am very behind on cardio and stamina but I never felt bad or rushed or pressured, you can push yourself as hard as you want. I was worried about ego's or judgment but I didn't feel that once. I did not want to be part of a gym that would be filled with "tough guy attitudes" but after spending one session in there, I realized these are some of the truly most tough people in the area without the ego or attitude. If you are curious, this is the place to learn or start or get more experience. Personally I am 35 but I saw a kids group the first night I was there, and then a variety of ages when I trained.

This place is awesome. Coach Jean is amazing, he is really welcoming and friendly and definitely makes you feel like you’re joining a family. There was absolutely no ego or hostility (just like his website states). I felt kind of bad because I had a lot of questions but they were all answered thoroughly with reassurance that exemplified his knowledge in Muay Thai. The gym immaculate and all of the equipment was properly cared for. The space itself had plenty of room for a full class of people to train. Not only was Coach Jean great but the other patrons that attended his class are all extremely friendly and are all willing to help. In other words this place is incredibly beginner friendly as well as being a great place to train for higher skill levels. Definitely can not wait to continue training here and I would HIGHLY recommend coming here. Not enough praise can be said about this gym.

Just discovered this treasure, After watching some YouTube videos, exploring their website, and studying other local gyms, I decided to make this place my 10 year old’s gym.
My drive is about 30/35 min and well worth the gas. The Coaches are all awesome, very friendly, and welcoming, the location has plenty of parking and is very clean. My son really enjoys the ring and looks forward to training. Jean, is very informative and knowledgeable. Training for my son is three times a week, at first I thought my son was going to be overwhelmed with three day a week practice but enjoys the work out. My son has never been exposed to any kind of fight training and today he’s a week in and his arm, stance and overall positioning has taken a toll for the positive.
Thank you Carillo Muay Thai

The gym is great, i can tell a very family oriented gym with all age groups in attendance. The atmosphere is awesome, they even had old school golden era MT fights playing on TV. Coach Jean is very welcoming, charismatic and very knowledgeable. I have been training for a few years now and he taught me a clever technique that ill keep in my tool box. Needless to say i went home drenched.

One of those rare finds if you are a Muay Thai addict.

I was blown away within 15 minutes of walking in. Coach Jean has a playful sense of humor which I can relate to so we got along great despite not knowing each other. He explained the class structure which is 5 mins of skipping and then 55 mins of Muay Thai. Hell yeah!! That’s why I’m here! The vibe there is contagious and the students made me feel like I was training there for years. (I did a 2x drop in sessions bc I was staying in the area for work)

CLEAN- This gym has an old school Kickboxer movie vibe, but you quickly realize that the whole gym is spotless. Even the bathroom. Both days I came in it looked like it had just been cleaned. Everyone after training wipes the pads they use down and their gloves which is a nice habit to see among the students. Not always the case.
ATMOSPHERE - I don’t think I have laughed as much during a training session while also pushing myself to the limits. He walks around during those 55 mins and gives his adjustments to each student. Everyone cracks jokes at each other, students of all different ages, sizes, both male and female. Everyone was welcoming to me and got hands on attention from Coach Jean. As a drop in, I do not expect much in terms of corrections because I am not a student, but coach Jean came over and gave me his time and adjustments. It felt like private training couldn’t be more thankful .
No ego – One circumstances come to mind that helps explain this. I saw the largest guy in the gym paired up with the youngest smallest girl and they both held Thai pads with equal respect for each other. He was working on technique and teaching her how to hold. She was happy to learn the holding side and having a ball kicking the pads. If that doesn’t paint a picture of what no ego means and melt your heart then you are not human. Each student is on board with creating an environment dedicated to helping their fellow students at different levels and it shows.

I would highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for authentic Muay Thai, but this place sells itself after one class. I look forward to training again next time I am in town!

Carrillos method is Adictive

I began my Muay Thai training under the lead of Coban in nyc. It took me about 5 years, three cities and countless trials at different martial arts gyms to find another authentic Muay Thai gym comparable to Coban.

Santa Ana is blessed to have coach Carrillo’s school. Not only it’s one of the few authentic Muay Thai schools outside of Thailand, but it’s also a place that houses a community that serves each other.

In times of social despair, seeing people from different backgrounds become family, brings hope. Carillo with his assistant Rogelio have crafted a method of teaching that is both accessible to most bodies and challenging to all. Creating a true diverse community that cares and encourages each other to always become better. No ego, no attitude is the rule. Trigger warning : Carillo tells the worst jokes! Lol but he has PASSION for this art pf Muay Thai.

he will help you find your own rhythm and at your own pace, you will learn the cleanest technique of moving your body. Great work out! I burned over 1000 calories every class.

Carillo Muay Thai is one of the best martial arts gyms i've ever been to! On my first day, I was a bit nervous, but Coach Carillo is one of the best coaches i've had, and having a no-ego/attitude gym will help you out!

The gym itself is very clean, and if you are unable to do anything, you aren't forced to do it. This will definitely help out your skills if you need.

You train for an hour, but that can go for two hours. The experience itself is great, and you always go home learning something new.

First day there in the gym I felt the no ego no attitude vibe going, everyone was chill cool the Gym was clean Coach Carrillo Treated me with respect no attitude Just keeping it real and Set me up with partner Fernando chill guy good vibe but let me tell you that guy can throw some strong kicks ha I’m like ima be on that level one day I know it. After the first round of just practicing I was already sweating my throat was dry but Coach Carrillo was checking on me if needed anything I was good and brought me a nice cold drink energy drink of course haha anyway I got hydrated and was ready for the second round after class ended everyone started Disinfecting there gloves and pads which is good right now. But Unfortunately I had to cancel my membership there with jean Carrillo due to my family problem I needed to take care of , I spoke to Coach Carrillo about my situation and he understood and didn’t try to push me to stay or give a better offer because I only went 1day and didn’t Show for a week due to my problem but He told Me to take care of my challenge with my family and when I’m ready to come back I’m more then welcome to join again he said I have the whole month to come to class I already payed for , 15 days of training with his class if I Can go he said he respects those 15days and will teach me as much as he can. I told Coach Carrillo I will rejoin his class as soon as I take care of my family situation but most definitely will join back 👊🤙

While searching for a gym in the OC area that offers Muay thai I stumbled on this gym. As we all do I scrolled down to the reviews to see what is what and read some shared opinions of the gym. Clean, clean clean!!! Overall the reviews were pretty consistent clean, no bs, real muay thai.I decided to come check it out and let me say that the reviews were spot on. This gym is spotless, the muay thai is authentic, the coach is easygoing, knows his stuff, and then some. The overall impression of the gym when arriving was somewhat of a family get together, there is an overwhelming sense of camaraderie and belonging. Everyone that was wrapping up and stretching made it a point to hop up come over and introduce them selves and ask me about myself. The coach came and gave me the tour explained everything and welcomed me to the family. I have been to a lot of gyms over the years for different martial arts and when you find a gem like Carrillo Muay Thai you are lucky because gyms of this nature and quality are unfortunately rare. I am proud to say that over a year later I am still a member of the CMT family and continue to invest in myself with the teachings of Coach Jean Carrillo.

The atmosphere is great, there is no ego and no attitude. The gym has always been clean and sanitized, even before the whole pandemic started, the only real Muay Thai gym in OC .

Premiere Muay Thai gym in Orange County. Coach Carrillo is the real deal and teaches his students legit skills. The gym is clean, with the necessary covid precautions taken and in place. Training is direct and to the point with emphasis on fundamentals and drilling in the commitment to proper techniques. The gym culture is one of respect, family, and no egos. I cannot recommend Carrillo Muay Thai enough.

Love this place!!!!! I’m in my 50’s no experience, first time. The gym is awesome! Coach Jean is frickin awesome and he loves to teach and great sense of humor. The gym is clean. Everyone is great from beginner and with experience. Everyone is willing to share their technique to help you and make you better. No ego or attitude here! When I first signed up I was a little intimidated until you meet everyone, it’s like a family, everyone comes around and give each other fist bump before and after class. Come on in and join the family!!! Just remember to leave your ego at home!!!

Carrillo Muay Thai was a great experience for me. I felt very comfortable as soon as I set foot on the Mat. Jean is a very professional coach and will work with anyone whether your a beginner or an advanced student. All the students there are very respectful with each other and all newcomers. You will feel welcomed from the start by all who go there. It is very clean and organized and has a very safe atmosphere. They sanatize between classes and have hand sanitizer before entering and leaving. Coach Carrillo is very active with all students and treat everyone with the same dedication. I've been to a few gyms and this gym was by far the best I've found. No contract No bad attitude No ego. This is the best place to go if you're a beginer or an advanced fighter. It's a must try.

If I could give this gym more stars I would!
Ill break it down nice and simple. Carrillo Muay Thai is a place with no ego and no attitude!! Usually people have trouble at other gyms because of rude people thinking they are better than everyone. But not here. This gym is the most welcoming of them all and every student respects each other. Super friendly!! So leave the intimidation at home because Carrillo Muay Thai is about loving the fighting style of all 8 limbs.
Cleanness of the gym is incredible ! Never have I ever been to such a clean and sanitized gym before.
Now, myself who has never trained before just started couple months ago and let me tell you that I have improved so drastically in my fighting techniques. Not only have I improve in my fighting and defensive skills but Carrilo Muay Thai has also been my main reason why I have lost almost 18 pounds within couple months!
Finally, the best of the best is Coach Jean Carrillo! What makes this gym so unique and connected is this Coach!!! Coach Carrillo connects with each of his students, inspires , dedicates, and commits! Every single gym session I always learn something new. It's incredible how much of experience he has. Coach Carrillo welcomes anyone who is willing to love this style of fighting and I promise you... you will love this guy!
When I first started he guaranteed me that if I committed to this gym that I would be a "beast" as he quoted. Well today I can say that I really feel powerful emotionally and physically ! Thanks to Coach Carrillo.
I recommend this gym to anyone that feels they want a positive change in their lives. To better their self esteem, to better their physically strength, and most importantly to better themselves as a whole !

Amazing gym with very friendly people. This is my first contact sport ever and it has an excellent experience. Coach’s views of no ego and no attitude makes the environment very welcoming and a great place to train. The pricing is fair to other gyms but what is best is the fact that no entry fees and no contracts are included. Every type of level fighter train here which makes it a very good gym to train at. The best part is Coach Carrillo. What makes him great is the fact that he’s very involved with his students. His if very thorough with his teachings, watches his students and walks us through the techniques. You have to come and try a session because it is a great place to train. Hope this helps.

I have previous martial arts experience but have never joined or tried an authentic Muay Thai gym. That said, It is very nerve racking to walk into your first Muay Thai gym. Last night I decided to email Coach Jean about checking out his gym and he text me back right away and he immediately made me feel welcome before I even showed up to the gym. I showed up the next day to his 10am class and immediately felt at home. Their motto “no ego-no attitude” is true as everyone welcomed me into the family. Everyone is respected at this gym. We are all there to learn and teach one another. The gym is extremely clean with a great set up. We all clean the pads used after our workout. Everything you need for Muay Thai you will find in the gym. Most importantly, Coach Jean is a legend and I found out right away his knowledge is unexplainable. His attention to the small details to sharpen your tools is truly fascinating and incredible. A Special thanks to Coach Jean for welcoming me to the family. I found my new Muay Thai home at Carillo Muay Thai. 🙏💪👊🇺🇸

Coach Jean is a knowledgeable and highly capable coach. I trained at CMT for only 4 months and returned to my old Muay Thai gym where everyone was surprised at how much my technique had improved. Coach Jean was able to work with my individual abilities and provide just the right technical education for my needs. CMT is truly a family and not just a gym. Nowhere else will you find police officers, ex-criminals, rich folks, poor folks, people of all different colors, cultures, and languages working together to have fun learning the beautiful art of Thai Boxing. Anyone interested in learning authentic Muay Thai from Thailand should check this place out.

I started going to Carrillo Muay Thai about two months ago and I love it! I have no previous experience in Muay Thai and didn’t know what to expect. I felt very welcome and it’s definitely a family like community! Coach Jean really cares about his students and is really passionate about Muay Thai. He’s very knowledgeable and would never make us do something he wouldn’t do himself. The gym is always clean and it’s a great environment to grow and learn in! First time at the gym, and I already know it's something I'm committing to long term. I can say this because for me, first impressions are everything! The overall feel and vibe of the gym from initially walking in, is very very well kept and clean. But it's also a place for hardwork, sweat, and camaraderie among Coach Jean and his peers. Coach Jean and everyone really emphasized no matter your level of skill or training experience, they welcome it all. No ego in the gym and the purity in the martial art of Muay Thai is what Coach Jean has preached since my 1st phone conversation with him. This stood very true to the way he ran his session. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to learn the true art of Muay Thai. I know I've only been to a session so take this review for what it's worth. Otherwise try and see for yourself!

Discovering this gym changed my life ! Coach I adore you , the coaches , the gym and the community you have built . I just had knee surgery and needed to change things up and in my healing process I discovered that everything I learned in the Bay Area WAS WRONG . It’s so important to find a coach/trainer that’s certified in anatomy because is makes a tremendous difference not to mention the damage you can be doing to your body if not trained correctly . Coach has given me tools to better my health and has helped me tremendously on my road to recovery . We focused on what I could do and not what I couldn’t and he encouraged me to pace my self at all times , but at the same time knows exactly when to push me . This place truly is exactly what it advertises. No ego and the entire community welcomed me with open arms offering support and encouragement . Coach Jean , These fighters are no joke ! You really know what you are doing and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me on my journey . This place is amazing and I am so grateful I joined this gym . Thank you so much 🤗

Great class! I just had my first Muay Thai class tonight and I loved it! I almost fainted after the warmup. Coach Jean handed me a bottle of Coke and I was fine five minutes later. Such a nice coach! I had no previous experience on kickboxing, but I ve learned some great moves already after the first class. Coach Jean corrected my moves throughout the entire class session. The workouts were intense, but my training partner was very patient. I felt welcomed. Good vibes! I am planning to attend at least 3 to 4 sessions per week starting next week.

Come and join the class, you will definitely have a good time!

Attended my first class this morning and can't wait to go back! I have no boxing or fighting experience and I was intimidated to attend a Muay Thai class (especially as a woman, mom of 2). But Coach Jean and the other members made me feel immediately welcomed into the family and I was very comfortable. Everyone was joking and having a good time, but Coach Jean's classes will kick your a$$! I could tell my kicks and punches were getting better and stronger throughout the class, and Coach Jean was right there to help make sure I was doing the proper technique. Super clean and bright facility, and I was sweating like crazy--amazing work out! Give it a try and you'll be hooked!

I just went to this gym to "check it out" as other reviewers mentioned. This guy named Roy, comes and tells me that it's a private gym and that I can't just observe the gym in action. This is not a joke, he says that without an appointment no one is allowed to just watch. Ok, now I'm not new to martial arts gyms, but I've never been told that one needs an appointment to see how the gym is. Unbelievable. The management of this gym needs to do a better job training it's staff not just in martial arts, but on customer service. On a side note, this gym smelled horribly, it has poor ventilation. Added to that the poor attitude towards potential trainees, I would definitely not recommend this gym.

Coach Jean is one of the most passionate Muay Thai coaches that I have ever met. As he coaches, he will pay attention to everyone ans not just a certain individual or group. When explaining a technique, he never ignores the small details because it's what makes the biggest difference. I've been doing Muay Thai for about a year now and I've lost 60 pounds just from his gym. Aside from the coach himself, the environment at the gym is very friendly and lively. BACKGROUND: I've never taken a Muay Thai class before nor do I have ANY martial arts background. ZERO experience.

I wanted to become stronger and well equipt to defend myself if I ever needed to. So, I looked around for Muay Thai gyms in my area and found CMT.

First class I ever took was a Thursday sparring class. Mind you, I am 5 ft tall (really 4'11) with no background in sparring EVER! Coach Jean joked around telling me to go easy on people which calmed my nerves a little. What really put me at ease was the willingness of others to help me out. Everyone was giving me pointers which helped a TON. You will get hit, so be prepared. Bruises are a free gift--as Coach Jean says:)

Classes are NOT easy. You will get worked out. Guaranteed. Jump rope 5 min, pads with a partner, and then end with sparring. It's not your Body Combat at 24 Hr fitness. Conversations are rated PG13+ so come with tough skin!

Coach Jean and the crew are AWESOME!! You will learn A LOT, but only if you put the effort in. ASK QUESTIONS! No one here is gonna judge--they'll throw some jokes at you, but it's all in good fun--everyone is always willing to help.

I've been coming here for less than 2 months and I already feel like I am part of the family. It has built up my confidence and strength so much that I am always ready to jump into a battle if I have to.

Great place to learn Muay Thai! Coach Jean is patient and knowledgeable. He also knows a lot about self-defense (if that’s also something you’re looking for). Very welcoming and supportive for beginners (me).

I just started training at the gym with coach Jean Carrillo. As a girl and total beginner, I was a bit nervous before my first lesson knowing that coach Jean has trained many top fighters in the world. I was afraid it’s gonna be too hardcore. However, I felt very welcomed and supported by coach Jean and everyone at the gym. They were all very nice, and my partners all tuned things down and helped me out. Coach gave me some extra attention and instruction to make sure I can follow along. It’s been a great experience so far.

I encourage everyone who’s on the fence to come check the place out. You won’t be disappointed, even if you are a beginner.

I've looked around a relatively long time around Orange County for good martial arts gyms, and while it took me a while to finally find myself going on for a try, I'm exceptionally glad that I joined Carrillo Muay Thai. It's hard to find great personal attention in gyms nowadays, with how commercialized most places have become. However, Jean Carrillo always tries to make comments on improvements students can make. The best thing about this gym is the general atmosphere, as everyone, including the coach, is friendly, inclusive, and ready to put in work as a group. Overall a fantastic gym.

I joined with my son. We are both new to this kind of activity and honestly I was a bit concerned that there would be a lot of guys with attitudes and egos.
We met Jean, the instructor and owner, and it soon became clear that he sets the tone in the gym. To say he is just an instructor would be somewhat inaccurate. Jean is a very bright, fun, and enthusiastic person to be around. That is not to say he is anything but an excellent instructor in the art of Muay Thai. He clearly knows the skills and nuances of the sport, but he can also relay that information to his students so they can learn what he knows.
I said Jean is not just an instructor, I would say he is more of a mentor. Jean is very positive and uplifting and he takes seriously his stewardship to not only help his students learn the skills of protecting themselves, but to help them be the best people they can be, people who will make the world a better place.
One last thing I should tell you, there are no egos or attitudes in the gym. Everyone picks up on the positive attitude Jean brings with him and everyone is friendly. One day when we were leaving my 13 year old son told me that “other than being at home, this is the place I feel most comfortable, because everyone there knows me by name and talk to me like I am a good friend”. There are men who recently left the marines, bartenders, teachers, female ballet dancers, yoga teachers, and many other men and women who train and every one of them are welcoming and giving.
To say I would recommend this place is an understatement. If you ever thought you might like to try Muay Thai, try it here, you will be glad you did.

If you are looking for a Muay Thai gym to be a part of, then look no further, CMT is a great place to train. This is my third week at CMT and have nothing but good things to say about the place. Since day one, every member has been extremely welcoming and helpful, this includes Coach Carrillo. What sealed the deal for me to continue here was how involved Coach Carrillo is with the class. He is always going around checking on your technique, giving advice on how to improve. If you have never trained in Muay Thai or any other martial arts, don't let that stop you from coming in. This place is great for all levels.

BACKGROUND: I have never done Muay Thai, never kicked a pad nor sparred.

I solely joined this gym because I wanted to learn how to defend myself, learn how to fight if I ever needed to and to boost my confidence as well as make me stronger. I wanted to challenge myself to my limit. I came blindly with no experience in any Martial Art. I called Coach Jean one day during my lunch break at work and we talked and he was straight forward that this isn’t your typical 24HR fitness gym nor a cardio class. This is Muay Thai! I went to check it out after work and instantly knew what I getting myself into but also the energy and students were very welcoming that I knew I was going to like it. My first day was “sparring day” (I didn’t know so you can already imagine how I felt) I’m some skinny dude with no experience about to spar with some killers & not knowing anything but it all went well. Got a little black eye no biggie (: but I had fun and loved it. We don’t sugarcoat anything at CMT. You will get punched so be prepared and receive some bruises!!

I highly recommend coming to this gym. I’ve been coming to the gym for a week as of today and I can say I enjoy it very much and love the atmosphere and energy that CMT has. I use to train at UFCGym and I can say this gym is way better. The Training here is physically and mentally demanding but not impossible. You have to have the right mentality when you come in.This gym is Muay Thai represented but that doesn’t mean you have to fight in Muay Thai to train here (You don’t need to be a fighter to train like one) You can come to get a good workout (but this isn’t your typical 24hr fitness type of gym) you WILL sweat, get bruises and some bumps & you’ll learn the art of Muay Thai. The students here are the most humble and kindest students with a mind of a champion and their willingness to want to help you is incredible and makes you feel more at ease because you’re not alone, we all start somewhere. If you don’t know anything ASK QUESTIONS! No one will judge you but just make some jokes so come with thick skin! Don’t take it personal- it’s all in good fun & lastly, your partner will help you and correct you on a move because at CMT we build each other up, not down. Truly an honor to train beside them because the devotion and determination they transpire is a motivation to keep moving forward. This is a team and it feels great to be a part of it- they are very welcoming and are true to the slogan Coach Jean implements (No Ego, No Attitude) truly that transpires at the gym. We all are trying to improve and we need eachother to do so. We are a team. Coach Jean is the best coach out there solely because his philosophy as a coach is different from most. This isn’t your typical gym, there’s no BS here and we are very straight forward. No Contract and No Fee. Come check it out!

I recently moved to Costa Mesa and got into Muay Thai recently after my travels overseas. I looked around at a lot of gyms in the area and Carillo Muay Thai easily stood above the rest with quality of Coach, quality of students and over all philosophy towards the sport and memberships. Loved the class! Last year I attended Coach Jeans class and was very happy! It was a lot of fun learning Muay Thai and everyone was very friendly and open to helping me out when I was confused. Coach Jean was very passionate and each practice would spend time watching each drill we did, always helping us improve. I always imagined that sometimes I would get occassionally lost in the shuffle, but every drill he would watch and comment on my techinque, helping me improve. Unfortunately my schedule dramatically changed and life events that prevented me from continuing to train, but if things change i would definitely be back! I always recommend anyone to Jeans class who are interested in Muay thai!

To give some context to this post, I've trained Muay Thai for about 2 years and have tried a bunch of different gyms. I've trained in gyms in Thailand, in Shanghai, and a handful in California in SoCal, in central California, and in San Francisco.

Carillo Muay was probably the best gym I've been to. The instructor is not only great at what he does but is passionate about Muay Thai and in the improvement of his students. I moved for work, but if I were anywhere in Orange County, this would no doubt be my gym.

Coach Jean is hands down a hidden gem in Orange County as far as striking technicians are concerned. He was a champ in his own right in the country of France but even more phenomenal as a trainer. He was the head coach that led Razor Rob Mcullough to WEC world MMA championship status. But lets put his credentials to the side, he's simply an amazing human being. He is one of those rare people in life you meet that is able to touch you in a way to make you a better person. I don't think I've seen him in a bad mood once. He's always smiling, joking around, and wants to make everyday a positive experience for his students.

The gym itself is well managed and cleaned and the people here are what makes the classes so great. There are no egos here and whether you are just the casual gym goer or someone who is serious about professionally fighting this is the gym for you. Coming to an environment and being part of a family with positive fitness goals is what drew me the most. They even have monthly team events which makes it even more personal and you really get to know everybody. Again no matter what walk of life you come from of your reasons for wanting to join a Muay Thai gym at least give it a shot, he does offer a free trial so you don't really have anything to lose.
