Tiffany Wu is an excellent physical therapist. She is good at diagnosing, prescribing appropriate treatments and performing hands on therapy. She is very organized and provides a link to an app that contains all the exercises you should do at home. Catalyst PT is a very good organization, and Tiffany is a wonderful PT, as well as a lovely person.

I’ve been with Catalyst for five years now, so obviously I’m a fan. I’ve been cycling and running since high school, and some 50+ years later, wear and tear and a family disposition towards hip arthritis led my sports doctor to refer me to Catalyst. I’ve worked primarily with Missy, Kat, and Pedro on my journey taking me from trying to get back to running without having my back freak out a day later,to pre-hab and post-hab for left hip replacement, followed by pre-hab and post-hab for right hip replacement 10 weeks later, then on to wellness. 18 months ago I transitioned to personal training with Pedro. I couldn’t be happier with where I am now. Catalyst has been an invaluable partner in getting my life back.

I’ve worked with and observed many practitioners at Catalyst and I can say that Brian has put together and maintains a great team, from therapists and trainers to aides, volunteers, and admin staff. He invests in their growth and they all are very committed to their clients’ progress. I have a couple of thoughts for prospective clients.

I wish I had discovered PT earlier in my athletic career. There are many tools they can provide you, but most importantly they can teach you to understand and interpret and respond to the language your body is speaking when it twinges or tightens, pops or creaks, feels sore or achey or exhausted. Your therapist/trainer is your partner: they need to know what you’re trying to accomplish.

When you make that initial phone call, one of the first questions will be “what do you hope to accomplish” in starting with PT. The answer to that question is important. Maybe you want to be able to walk around the block without feeling like you need to take Tylenol and ice and crash for the rest of the day. Maybe you want to (be able to) do burpees! Maybe you’re not experiencing any real problems, but you’d like to have someone take a look at your running form before you ramp up to that half or full marathon.

Physical therapy can hurt, but there’s good hurt and bad hurt. Let your therapist know if something you did during that last treatment was a bit too much and you were feeling yucky hours or even days later. Or if that one homework exercise seems just too hard (or easy). They can and will adjust your program. But they won’t know unless you communicate with them. To that end, when at all possible, I recommend trying to work with the same therapist. If you don’t click with one, there are plenty of others, and all of them want what’s best for you.

I wish you well on your journey. If you see an older guy working on trying to tie both his shoelaces while standing on one foot, or doing burpees, or dribbling the soccer ball like he never did as a kid, say hi.

Clean facility and friendly staff who do a great job of communicating overall and interim goals, listening to and incorporating feedback, and evaluating progress. I appreciate the emphasis on form and alignment to maximize the effectiveness of what I'm doing.

I was wanting assistance getting back into moving my body and particularly building strength after having had two surgeries and 12 weeks total recovery time. It was important to me that I worked with someone that was appropriately educated in the field, had experience working with people of all ages and whom I could see was passionate about their work and journeying with their clients. I poured into researching online and discovered Pedro at Catalyst Performance Center in Point Loma. The reviews for both Pedro and the center itself were all very positive and the price for my budget was also right.

I cannot be any happier with my experience! I have been working with Pedro for the last 10 months and have made continuous and steady progress. I have been nicely surprised to see and feel how my body quickly has grown in strength with only one session a week (recently bumped it up to twice a week) and the exponential impact it has had in carrying out daily activities which feel easier and solid. It has also helped me feel more confident overall and am grateful beyond words.

Pedro’s training knowledge, expertise on the mechanics of the body, meeting you where you’re at and how to move you towards the next level have been the corner stones of my progress. I have also been impressed on how carefully Pedro listens, his weekly checks-ins to see how recovery is going and his ongoing learning via conferences and reading up on research.

I have been so impressed with Catalyst in general that I even got my mom into PT here as well. And she’s loving it!

Whether you are in need of physical therapy or are looking for someone to help bring out the best in your athletic performance, you should definitely reach out to the team at Catalyst.
I first started going to Catalyst in Feb24 to treat an elbow issue and then later to get help with hip pain. Rachel was excellent at identifying the root cause of these issues, treating them, and also educating me on the appropriate exercises to ensure these issues do not recur in the future.
While I have been getting physical therapy, my kids have been taking advantage of their athletic training services. With all the sports the kids are doing up to 6 days a week, it was important that they receive the proper training to build up the necessary functional strength and also get guidance on proper technique to reduce the risk of injury.
Thanks again to the team at Catalyst (Rachel, Sonya, Eduardo, etc.) for taking such great care of our family!

Highly recommend Catalyst for anyone looking to recover from an injury, step up their game as an athlete, or even maintain their current level of athleticism. Catalyst is incredible for physical therapy, but I think where they really thrive is their bodywork sessions. Rachel is a literal magician and can get out all the aches, pains, and sores in one session and have me feeling good as new! After seeing her my first session, the back pain that I had had for over a year was finally gone and I was able to get my first good nights sleep. I wasted so much money on massages before I found Rachel and now I’ve substituted bodywork sessions with Rachel for the massages entirely. Couldn’t recommend her, and Catalyst, enough.

I met with Sonya to access a problem i am experiencing with walking distance. I had a hip replacement 1 1/2 years ago and hurt after walking more than 1/4 mile. She identified tge problem quickly, weak glute muscles. She massaged them and put me thru some exercises to strengthen them. She is very knowledgeable and helpful. I would recommend her highly.

Was recommended Catalyst (Mission Valley) by a good friend after having total shoulder replacement over a year ago. Was super lucky to be paired up with PT Audra & sometimes Olivia for the majority of my PT visits. I brought my 12 year old son to Catalyst to see if they could help with his elbow pain. Eva and Alex happened to be there and were eager to assist. With my consent, Eva did a quick evaluation on the spot. With quick and smooth communication, Alex had us set up with a session with Eva for a deep tissue massage and some training a few days later. The staff here is incredibly knowledgable and eager to heal and help in any way that they can. I highly recommend Catalyst and encourage anyone interested to, at the least, stop by and ask some questions.

I was at a tennis tournament at the Barnes Tennis Center, and I wouldn't have made it through the weekend without the support of this amazing training staff! They helped located the source of my pain, treated with stretching and exercises, and provided an amazing massage to target some of my pain. All the staff were friendly and professional. My husband and I had been attempting to get into a work out routine for awhile. We'd be consistent for a bit and then fall off. We finally decided to look to getting guidance from someone else. I didn't want to end up in some big gym with someone pushing us too fast. I really liked that Catalyst had physical therapy. We have been working with Eduardo since January 2024 and couldn't recommend him and Catalyst enough! I feel like my husband and I are building a great foundation. I can’t say enough good things about Pedro, he’s exactly what you need in a trainer! He’s diligent about checking where you are with your functional movement, challenges you with small steps, and make sure are ready for the next step before progressing. I herniated 2 discs in my low back and with the help of Patrick, I am now well on my way to recovery and returning to running. Physical Therapy really works if you are invested in your recovery. Patrick gave me great exercises to do at PT, home, and when I returned to the gym. He was really patient with me as I had a lot of nerve pain in the beginning and helped me with exercises to address this pain. The environment is weird because it’s outside or in a cabana but for the price and the quality of the massage it’s worth it! They are so knowledgeable about the body and it’s more a therapeutic massage than just a relaxing one which is what I need for health reasons so it’s fantastic! Highly recommend them!

I have been coming to Catalyst for over 6 months for physical therapy, massage and personal training. I worked with Jon doing physical therapy "wellness" because I didn't have insurance coverage for my issue. He is super sweet and knowledgable, makes PT fun somehow, which is a small miracle. I bought two consecutive packages and we worked on stretching/strength building with specific goals in mind - like getting back on skis this winter and being able to run around with my kids without knee/back pain. Eventually I was strong enough to transition to personal training with Pedro. He is helping me continue to build strength with those same goals in mind. My progress is above my expectations. I am regularly increasing load and repetitions. I have recommended them to all my friends. I am also using the massage program once a month to compliment the training - Jasmine is wonderful. I went to Catalyst for Physical Therapy on my right knee which I received a cortisone shot a few weeks prior due to swelling and had been dealing with lingering pain and discomfort. Working with Jon, we managed to work on the areas that were causing the discomfort, strengthen the areas that were weak and I have been pain free for the first time in a very very long time. I am now back on the sand volleyball court and moving/jumping better than I have in years. Highly recommend!

I had a rotator cuff injury and my MD suggested I go to Catalyst Performance for therapy. I liked that idea, since I want to avoid surgery whenever possible. My shoulder is now back about 95% thanks to Catalyst and Jonathan. (Probably as good or better than I would have been with surgery). Then it was time to work with a trainer to get me back lifting weights again, and Jonathan recommended Pedro. Over the years, I have worked with several trainers, and Pedro is the best of them all. He works with me to regain strength while protecting my shoulder, he challenges me with stretching, and I am possibly the most limber I have ever been. And probably since I am 71 years old, he also works on my balance. I have dramatically improved in all areas.

I really benefited from the several months of rehab PT for my Achilles injury. PT Fong really knew his stuff; he answered all my questions readily and his recommendations were always spot-on. The Barnes site was well-run and friendly, with nice outdoor and indoor facilities. Scheduling and payment was easy, as was the insurance planning.

I highly recommend this gym if you are looking for a place that's clean, isn’t crowded, and has a friendly staff (and no gym bros). The gym is smaller than most but has all the necessary equipment for a good workout and an outside area to do sprinting drills. My wife and I would come 2-3 times a week and would have 1 training session/week with our trainers, Pedro and Natalie.

Pedro was great to work with. He is very knowledgeable and open to addressing my needs (muscle growth and improved mobility). He was aware I work from home in front of a computer so took the time to make sure I stretched out my muscles, especially my back and neck. He always came in with a good attitude and motivated me for PRs (personal records). He sent me detailed workout plans and videos of my progress so I could use them while traveling for work. I worked with him for ~4 months and noticed some pretty sizable gains in my upper body muscles (where I wanted to grow). If he is available, I highly recommend booking him. He was also fun to talk to - we'd chat about sports and restaurants which made the time fly by.

Natalie was also great to work with and my wife highly recommends her as well. My wife was pregnant, so Natalie put in extra effort to research & learn safe and healthy exercises that can help her get stronger while ensuring she's prepared for labor (stretching / strengthening the right muscles). My wife appreciated that she challenged her in just the right ways -- always made sure that she was feeling okay / was not in pain, ensured the exercises were safe for the baby / pregnancy, while still allowing her to get some good strength training in (for both upper and lower body). She would also send workout routines for the other days that my wife was in the gym, which was very helpful for her.

Overall, Catalyst is filled with a great staff and a well kept gym with modern equipment. If you are looking to avoid gyms like 24 Hour or LA fitness, give this a trial.

Jon (and Catalyst) has made such a positive impact in my life and has really helped me achieve my physical therapy goals. I had a lot of pain on my lower right side (hip, knees, ankles) and had a hard time running long distances or working out too hard without being in a lot of pain during and after. Jon showed me how to activate and strengthen the muscles that support all my movement to have more stability that I never even knew how to use before. I started coming to Catalyst in October for knee pain that started after a long backpacking trip. During my first visit, Jon and the team performed various tests to determine what exactly might be causing the pain. Everyone was very personable and it did not feel like a typical doctors visit. I started seeing Jonathan about a month ago for knee pain. After my first week of treatment and muscle activation exercises, my pain had greatly been reduced. I am still going to catalyst and working with Jonathan, and feel that I have made great progress.

The Point Loma branch has an outdoor setup that makes rehab workouts fun. The gym is very clean and there is always lots of parking available.

11/10 would recommend for your physical therapy needs.

Pedro is one of the best personal trainers I have ever worked with. I remember doing my first consultation with him while suffering from chronic back pain and plantar fasciitis. Still, he kept me motivated and helped me by creating a specific workout plan and constantly checking up on me to achieve my fitness goal. After training with him for five months, my overall strength and endurance improved a lot. If not for my job transfer, I will stay with Catalyst Performance Center longer. However, once I'm back in the area, I will work with Pedro again.

As for their staff and facilities, the teams are professional and friendly. And both the Mission Valley and Point Loma facilities are clean, and the equipment are well kept.

I am a bit late posting my review here, but I wanted to take the time to give 5 stars and some words of thanks to Pedro here at Catalyst Performance.

I had mentioned to him that I had undergone some pretty significant weight loss, after years of dangerous yo-yoing, and was having trouble finding the confidence and discipline to get started with weight and calisthenics training. After giving me plenty of free advice, I took him up on his offer to come in for a session.

The fitness center out in Pt Loma is a modest but open space with plenty of equipment for anyone's fitness or therapy needs. We decided to take it outside and enjoy the good weather. Pedro talked and walked me through each workout, taking close attention to my form and having me describe back to him what I experienced. We took some video clips of my 'bests' and I still use them for a point of reference to check myself during my workouts.

Although I had just one session, Pedro showed exceptional follow-up on my workout recovery, dietary struggles, and even sent me a reworked schedule to fit my needs as they changed over time. I never once got the impression that he was after my money, didn't want to be there, or was frustrated with my level of progress and discipline. Friendly, good sense of humor, but most importantly, the man is knowledgeable about fitness and nutrition. He does his homework and is up to date with current science (and happy to discuss and dispell internet 'bro science'). I'd recommend him to anyone at any fitness level, easily.

Catalyst Performance is the best place in San Diego to get a great workout! Highly recommend working with Tyler as your personal trainer - he is knowledgeable, encouraging, positive and makes working out both challenging and fun. Tyler took the time to understand my fitness goals and how we could set out to achieve them.

I have been coming to Catalyst for about a month now and already feel stronger, have more endurance and seeing improvements in my form and athletic ability. They are great at modifying workouts if needed – I have a previous lower back and knee issue and Tyler has been able to modify workouts so that I can safely work out.

The gym is very clean, spacious and has all the latest and greatest equipment which means you’ll always have diversity during your workout. Catalyst also has a great outdoor space if you prefer outdoor workouts as well. During COVID, they have been incredibly understanding and flexible with workout preferences for outdoor workouts and maintaining social distancing.

Definitely recommend checking out Catalyst and working with Tyler as your personal trainer to hit your fitness goals and have fun while doing it!

I have been training with Pedro Sun off and on for the last seven years. I am a very active 70 year old and play tennis 2-3 times a week. He’s rehabbed me through several surgeries and got me back on the court in record time. When I couldn’t do all the challenges, he improvised to accommodate my limitations while working on my strength and cardio safely. He texts or calls to check in with me, always providing an open line of communication. Finally, Pedro has been seeing me through cancer treatment for the last 2 years. He has been by my side weekly, only walking with me while I was too weak to do more, then helping me advance as I healed, to now doing pretty intense strength training.
Pedro has changed the quality of my life. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without him. I am grateful for him everyday.

I have been a regular at Catalyst Wellness for many years. Until the pandemic I exercised weekly at the Mission Valley location and now I am going the new location in Point Loma, at the Barnes Tennis Center. I must say I prefer the parking at the Point Loma location, but both locations provide excellent care and guidance. I work out with Pedro, and have for over 5 years. He is the kindest trainer, who is consistently considering my body limitations and also encourages my growth in every way possible. Pedro keeps detailed records and can see how well I’ve been doing even when I don’t see it. The rest of the staff are just as fantastic, and so knowledgeable. The physical therapists are attentive, and consider all individual patients needs. I highly recommend training with Pedro!! He is humble, encouraging and has a genuine positive outlook. The Catalyst staff is also so welcoming and the gym is very clean.

My amazing PT from Catalyst referred me to train with Pedro. Best part is Pedro has communicated directly with my PT so he has a full understanding of what is going on with my body including my scoliosis. This made me feel extra safe to train with him.

After a previous back and rib injury, I was nervous to work out again and lift even light weights. Pedro has helped me so much by safely showing me proper technique. I am becoming comfortable with movement again!

Pedro texts me to check how the exercises are going. He offers to take short videos while you’re doing the exercises on your personal cell phone so you can watch later to remember proper technique!! This was so impressive because this allowed me to feel safe doing the exercises at home too. Pedro developed a work out plan for me and sent it over in excel too.

What I love about Catalyst performance is how coach Pedro knows the science and takes a no BS approach to his clients while being able to explain things in layman terms.

The most important thing is the experience. I don't feel like a client getting cookie cutter advice. Everything feels tailored and cut to fit, so to speak.
