I recently attended the Central Coast Karate Championships hosted by Central Coast Kenpo Karate, and this was by far one of the most biased tournaments my child has ever participated in. If you weren’t one of their own competitors, you were blatantly and consistently scored lower in every event, at every level, throughout the day.
The event began with the black belt divisions, which included both teenagers and adults. Tournament organizers repeatedly announced that the competition schedule was available online, but this was not true—I confirmed this with several other parents as well. None of the visiting schools or competitors had access to the schedule. As a result, many schools brought their young competitors at the 9:00 a.m. opening, only to wait until nearly 1:00 p.m. to begin competing. Meanwhile, Central Coast Kenpo Karate’s younger competitors conveniently arrived closer to 12:15–12:30 p.m., as if the event was designed to wear out the visiting schools’ children.
Throughout the day, there were multiple examples of unqualified judging. Scores on katas varied dramatically and inconsistently. In point sparring, judges awarded erroneous points and overlooked obvious fouls. One kickboxing judge even wore sunglasses indoors the entire time, which clearly impaired his vision and judgment. It was astonishing how many clean hits from visiting competitors were ignored and not counted as points.
Even worse, there were instances of judges mocking, laughing at, and insulting competitors from outside schools. At one sparring ring, I overheard a young “judge,” who appeared to be no older than 15, insulting a visiting competitor by calling them a “baby” and laughing at their effort. This behavior was deeply disappointing and showed a complete lack of respect, empathy, and professionalism.
Karate is a sport built on discipline, respect, and, above all, integrity. Sadly, this tournament failed on all counts. I strongly urge Central Coast Kenpo Karate to reflect on these issues and do better for the sake of the sport and its young athletes.

No idea that karate would provide so much. I cannot say enough about how beneficial and awesome our experience has been with Central Coast Kenpo Karate. Daniel and Jenny are the nicest - and they are invested. The old kids who mentor the younger kids is also an unseen added benefit. It really cultivates a community for the kids. It’s helped us as parents too - we often take care of things for our kid that she could do for herself unknowingly and karate and the attitude stripes have given us as parents the space to delegate and empower our daughter. Highly recommend for anyone looking to get their kid involved.
UPDATED REVIEW: BELT CAMP!!!
Like every parent over the summer, we’re looking for meaningful and enriching opportunities for our kids and did belt camp DELIVER!!!! The Perez’ put together an awesome curriculum and fun activities for everyone during belt camp. It did push our kid, but it also empowered her and gave her more confidence in her body. The camp is affordable and it’s all day for us working parents (shocker, I know).

My kids have been training with Mr. and Mrs. Perez for over 6 years. Their training and coaching encouraged me, as an adult, to start training. This school teaches confidence, self control, and most importantly self defense! A great school to practice martial arts as a family!

Love being a part of this karate family! Great friends, awesome instructors, strong skills for kids to learn in respect, discipline and self defense. My kid now has the ability to stand in front of hundreds of spectators and speak to judges, perform solo and as a group! Life long skills learned in a nurturing environment.

As an adult who trains in martial arts this is a top studio to attend. All of the coaches have extensive years of experience and training. This studio not only teaches just karate, but also kick boxing, ground work and self defense. I highly recommend for any beginners or advance wanting to start their martial arts journey. They also have wonderful youth classes for your little ones.

My daughter and I love learning with Mr. Perez at Central Coast Kenpo Karate. He provides expertise with a kind demeanor. He is excellent at working with any level or age and truly personalizes his instruction to meet every student where they are at, and where they hope to go with their karate. I plan to be a black belt, and I know he can help my daughter and me reach our goals.

My son struggled with confidence in other sports. He's been going to see the Perez family for over a year now and his demeanor at home has changed drastically. He's more confident, cooperative with house chores, and more respectful of himself and others. I can not praise Central Coast Kenpo enough.

My daughter has been going to this school for three years and I can see the confidents it has given her and a sense of responsibility. She does have a rough patch here and there, but she likes coming to class. Eventually, she works through her struggles and gains more skills and confidents. The instructors are wonderful and work with the kids and the parents. You can tell they really care about each kid and they do their best to work with them. The environment they make is a safe and friendly one. It's amazing to see the kids helping each other out despite age or belt rank. I'm happy and thankful that I found this school. ^^

when my sisters you, may know them "Andrea'" and "Angie" started going to karate, I was just going in to watch them. I haven't joined at the time. Mrs. Perez actually pushed me/ motivated me to join. I was 14 at the time I was unsure, I didn't know if I wanted to join or not, eventually I did. That is also why you may see why my younger sisters are higher belts then me. We practice together, and help each other out. There was a time when I wanted to quit karate I was going to be an advance yellow belt, but Mr and Mrs. Perez didn't give up on me and now on Saturday August 28 2021 I will be pretesting for my brown belt. I am so excited and nervous. I am so grateful that they did not give up on me and pushed me through. In central coast kenpo karate you not only learn how to defend yourself. You also learn leadership, honor, respect, confidence and more, we sometimes do fun activities like board breaking, water balloon fight and etc. If you are thing of joining please join we will be so happy. In here we are all like one big family.

Our family has had the pleasure of being part of this outstanding Karate School since July 2018. Mr. & Mrs. Perez are very knowledgeable and patient with all their young pupils. My family is truly blessed to be part of such a important and fundamental tool in teaching our two children respect, focus, and so many more crucial qualities. I have seen both my children sore and believe it's in part to their karate teachings.

All I can say is that I love Central Coast Kenpo Karate. I was on the fence about having my daughter start doing karate because she was shy and very quiet. The first few classes were a little rough and I thought she last maybe a month or so. But my daughter proved me wrong. Here she is now a brown belt and working towards her junior black belt. Which is one of her goals to get that belt. We’ve been with this karate school for a while now and her instructors are amazing. Mr. & Mrs. Perez are very knowledgeable and professional. They run a great program for the whole family.

Mr. Perez and Mrs. Perez are EXCELLENT with children of all ages. They educate the whole child both while on the mat and off the mat. The way they teach and their philosophies help reinforce and instill good values and morals that they have learned at home. Somehow though when Mr. Perez says its so... IT IS SO!! Mrs. Perez is so great about learning about the children that enter in so they can help work with them on an individual level. 3 of my boys have very different personalities and they reach each one of them where they at. One of our sons has ADHD and we can see the positive effects already of them helping him learn to help his mind control his body. It is very family centered and they give so much more of their time and resources then to just a karate lesson. Mr. Michael has also taken taken time in helping our boys reach their goals. We have tried many different sports and activities and Kenpo Karate has been their favorite!! Thank you Mr. Perez and Mrs. Perez and everyone at CCKK!!

Daniel Perez is one of the most knowledgeable instructors of American Kenpo I have had the pleasure of meeting. With his attention to detail and intricate knowledge of the art, I was able to excel with the form. Kenpo karate gave me the self esteem and confidence I have today. From my studies I now know that self discipline and daily practice go a long way towards accomplishing your goals in life. If you want an instructor who will give you more than just teaching the art, go here because they can really improve all aspects of your life.

Central Coast Kenpo Karate is a great martial arts studio for people of all ages who are interested in learning American Kenpo Karate. Daniel is an extremely competent and qualified instructor who has been teaching for well over a decade. His fiancé, Jenny is also a wonderful martial artist who has grown immensely from her training, as well as the main marketer and coordinator for the studio.
I would highly recommend anyone who is interested in learning the art to give them a call and schedule a free trial class. Kenpo is wonderfully complex and scientific art that will benefit you in all areas of your life, and once you take your first class, you'll be hooked!

Renee,
Then I guess we should thank you, for having Daniel read that book “The Secret” because it was totally awesome. Daniel shared that with us, and it was so good and like my husband Loops said it is very inspiring.
And in that respect I feel that you would be (Amazed) with your Son on the outcome of his success. How he engages with the community he basically just met. Watching the way he handles the children. I truly don’t think Daniel meant any harm with whatever dates he received his accomplish brown or black. All he knows is that in his heart the accomplishments were met, because of the knowledge he’s got and the way he connects with the children. That’s something no one can get from a book. Perhaps if he was given some type of documentation showing when he reached every category. He would have some type of proof.
Now for those of you reading what’s supposed to be a (Review) has basically turned to be (Family Drama).
I want you to know that not every Kenpo Karate School operates in the same manner. My step son Daniel welcomes every Karate school to demonstrate their ability. The students aren’t an object to be bought, they are human beings. And Daniel doesn’t forget where he came from or who his Kenpo Family is. And if he chooses to invite his Kenpo Family. No one has the right to tell anybody who they can and cannot talk to.

This is Mrs.Rosemary Perez, what ever happened to the thumbs down on a review? I will be back with a response on a later date...just wondering? FYI I am referring to the response from Mr. Williams. Because as far as my son is concerned with no doubt is totally thumbs up
Today is 11/20/2017
I’m Daniels dad “Loop’s Perez” And in response to Mr. Williams remarks, You speak of Integrity and Honesty, (OKAY), let’s start at the beginning on how he was able to retain ownership for the Fresno School I’m tired of the accusations that you imply against my son. This whole Kenpo Karate is starting to sound like a (Gang Affiliation). And on the contrary of what you may think that is not how I brought up my son.
Why do you think he left your Fresno School? He never saw the Profits or the Prospects of the karate school only the work. And please think of your next response very carefully because this will take it to another level. And with all due respect I don't want it to escalate that far. If you can't speak positive of my son then say nothing at all. How hard is that? This stops here, we are all Adults and if things aren’t going your way don’t take it out on my son. Because as I last recall this is supposed to be as a Family Unit not separated as Who is better than Whom.
I’m amazed on how fast my son has accomplished his goal. There is a book that is called “The Secret” which is very inspirational to one who is determined to reach their goal in life without stepping or hurting people along the way I’m very proud of my son Daniel and Jenny, on all their accomplishments. They were able to tackle any obstacles that came their way.
And I realize that everybody is in title to their own opinions and comments. I really don’t understand why his mother has allowed this man to talk so negative about our son. Even more so because of the fact that my son’s business is so young and fresh. I always thought that the rule of Kenpo Karate was Loyalty…..
“Just as my son as respected your school” , all I ask is that you respect his school. And if you really find it hard to say anything nice or positive, then please say nothing at all.
And remember my son owes you nothing; you were blessed with his free services.
And Ms Renata with all due respect don't put to much into it. Its no shock that it went this route. Remember We are not in Court nor are we judge and jury. So please contact Daniel at his new location, Remember their are two sides to every story. And if it’s that important call him.......................
