Signed up as a new member and set up an appointment at a weekday 11/13 5pm with Kevin for a fitness assessment.
I arrived at 4.57pm and checked in with Kevin. Unfortunately he was occupied with another customer. No problem, I waited till 5.10pm, but he is still occupied. I kept waiting at the lobby chair till 5.20pm and itβs still not my turn.
I decided that I have waited long enough and just went ahead and do my workout routine. What is the point of making an appointment and make me come in but not honor it.
Kevin didnβt apologize or acknowledge or do any follow up for missing our appointment. Itβs very unprofessional experience.

I just joined for the second time the receptionist there. She was super nice. Helped me out. Got me set up. It's amazing how many people were there at 5:00 this morning, but there was plenty of parking facilities clean. Nice. No waiting on equipment. I love it

Pros of this location: Open layout with good areas to stretch on mats. Smoothie bar. Decently clean.
Cons: can get real packed at peak times. Treadmills can get packed at peak times. Very few squat/dl racks. Very few attachments for cable machines.

No signage to let patrons know to rack their weights, to not drop their weights. No signage for pool area...must wear appropriate swimwear, swim cap, two people per lane or how to swim with three people...this lack of signage causes many uncomfortable situations...people new to a gym have no knowledge of simple gym etiquette...same with the pool area...people jump into the pool with their workout clothes on,
Swim in their boxers, use the hot tub nude. No signage stating that the area is coed!!!

This City Sports location has been my home gym for the last 8 years (or so).
I have made incredible connections with just about everyone in that time span, from gym management right on down to the engineers that close the place down. I can attest that just about everyone who is here (or has been here) is nothing but friendly, courteous and always willing (and able to help).
It has been an incredibly safe space. In addition to getting a good workout, I've found the opportunity to fellowship with other members to be just as fun and as a result, I've certainly made sure to recommend a few folks to join ;)
Want to make sure I give a big shout out to my guy Eli who is currently running sales at this location, his staff and all the trainers.

Iβve been a regular gym goer for about 15+ years now and worked in countless corporate offices and I tell you when I never seen a gym this spotless and smelling very fresh is a understatement I give this gym a 100 out of 5 star rating the staff were very friendly attentive to my needs and whatβs and delivered just what I was looking for when it comes to spending my hard earned money on my fitness the gentlemen who is the general manager Eli man ! I tell you when you looking for someone to take care of you and guide you to what you are looking for he is your guy he took his time to find the perfect option for me and my fitness journey and canβt thank the gm Eli more than enough he definitely goes the extra mile to get you what you need and that guy Fernando just a spark of energy the culture Theese guys set is great for business gets people motivated and strong minded walking into the gym ! Love it here !

I rarely write reviews, but the front desk experience at this gym has been so unpleasant that I feel obligated to say something. The receptionist is rude, unhelpful, and gives off the impression that you're bothering them just by showing up.
No greeting, no eye contact, and zero effort to assist with even the most basic questions.
It completely ruins the vibe of the place. A receptionist is the first impression of any business, and unfortunately, this one is driving people away rather than welcoming them in. I've considered switching gyms solely because of how uncomfortable and unwelcome l've felt at the front desk.
Management seriously needs to re-evaluate who they have representing them. I don't recommend anyone coming to this gym, the managers were super rude as well. And the front desk staff pacifically a male guy with tattoos were being super difficult and rude and looked like he was on drugs, but the other staff members were super amazing it's really hit or miss.

Iβve been a loyal member of City Sports for 7 years and have recommended this gym to countless friends over the years. Unfortunately, the experience with the new team has been absolutely unacceptable. They are rude, unprofessional, and completely unhelpful.
They messed up our account and treated us as if we were freeloaders who hadnβt paidβdespite being long-time paying members. They embarrassed us publicly in front of other people, creating a completely unnecessary scene instead of calmly resolving the issue.
To make things worse, rather than owning their mistake and fixing the situation, they started mocking us and throwing indirect insults. It was disgraceful, humiliating, and completely out of line.
This is not how loyal members should be treated. The new management clearly has no idea how to handle customer service, and theyβve turned a once-great gym into a place I can no longer recommend.

This is my home gym and I thoroughly enjoy it here πIt is clean, equipment in good condition, people that work here take pride in what they do, are competent, and friendly. This establishment has everything I need from a pool, sauna, weight machines, cardio equipment, and my fave, boxing π₯ bags. I take my friends here and give them a good workout πͺ

August 2024-Dec 2024: I enjoy the City Sports Club environments both as a member and employee. Especially at this location. Despite the unrealistic expectations as a 9-5 corp gym, the staff and members here know how to build community and an inclusive fitness environment. Supplement bar could use a better vendor - theyβre nearly never there at some points in the day. Otherwise, I recommend this gym for those with the mindset of fitness goals/wellbeing, setting standards, and have a set work schedule.

Final update for 11/15/2024: I am going to miss my gym because I enjoyed building relationships with the staff and other gym members. Friday is my last day at this gym since I'm moving out of state. I will miss many people but I will not miss California. Haha. I enjoyed my time here but a house is not worth 3 million and an apartment is not worth 6K+. Sometimes we just have to move on and start anew. Thank you City Sports Club for everything and I will greatly miss this gym.

Every city sports I went to has dirty showerβs, clumps of hair all over the women showerβs wall and floor, black mold on the walls and curtains rust grown shower heads. They sauna have food and paper towels that grown women leave behind cause their to lazy to throw their trash away. As much as the charge and overprice there members you think they at least can CHANGE OR GET NEW CLEAN SHOWER CURTAINS.

City Sports Club in Hayward is a well-equipped gym. Attendance is inconsistent, with some days being crowded and others very empty. Cleanliness also varies, with some days being spotless and others less so. The main issue is the staff: some employees are very friendly and efficient, while others are not. Despite this, itβs a good place to work out.

Been a member since shortly after it opened in Union City. The place has gone downhill as of the review in 2024-04. The elliptical machines, treadmills, stationary bikes, etc. were old when they opened (the phone connections on the machines are for iPhone 4βs or 5βs); the covers of the weight benches are crappy, worn, and torn; the carpets are worn down with tape applied to them; and I could go onβ¦
The people working there are friendly and helpful. Although, the carpets and floor need attention from the cleaners.
There is generally enough equipment, but you may need to wait for a bench, weight machine, or space to do your routine.
They offer spin classes and aerobic classes as well as having trainers with whom you can work with.
Overall, an okay place to work out, and spending a few thousand dollars on maintenance would benefit the look and feel of the place.

It's great to get exercise the only thing that is very annoying are these social media influencers. There was a social media influencer next to me by the dip bar as if he owned the space with camera equipment. These social media influencers are one of the reasons why many people do not like going to the gym anymore. I told the general manager about it and he said recordings are not allowed but these media influencers will film anything for likes, attention, and followers. I'm pretty sure the people around you do not want to be in your videos. If these people record or take pictures of you, report it to the general manager so they can have their membership revoked.
If someone does post you on social media, contact Joey Swoll and he will call them out. Do not let these people intimidate you from going to the gym.

Decent sized gym
There's always parking
Cool "protein bar" where u can get ur protein shake and preworkout
There's a cycling room, a basketball court, sauna, pool, hottub, fake grass area
Group fitness classes are popular here
The bad
Not many squat racks
There is only a small designated area for stretching upstairs that's 2 Mats big and some Mats on the first floor against the wall but no room - you can use the room that group fitness classes happen but I guess group classes and my schedule keep conflicting so I can't use the room
U cannot store your items in the locker cuz it just might get stolen

Out of all the city sports i been, this is by far my favorite. They have a punching bag here. Im grateful for that. Great equipments here. Its mostly clean. Jacuzzi and sauna are well maintained. I highly recommend this place to gym goers!

This gym has childminding service. A lot of city sports got rid of this service. The staff is very friendly. Gym is clean. Equipment is well maintained. The only thing is the Zumba class is too popular. It's very crowded and hard to dance around.

Most of clients pay annual fees, Waterworld clients pay only 1/3 of membership fees, showers are used by the second guesses and themselves, living the area deplorable, from napkings to hair, locker areas the same. They have showers in the pool area but , the Waterworld And every other equipment it's out of order STAFF ITS VERY NICE RESPONSIBLE, AND RESPECTABLE.

The facility is great and pool is great. However, my biggest complaint is their cancellation process. After multiple visits, I was never able to find the person who can do cancellation. I was told there is only 1 person who can process it and she takes care all of the location. Almost feels like a scam.

I normally go to other clubs in the Bay but I went to this one on Easter Sunday at about 10 AM and it was a mess in there. All the weights were all over the place and nothing in order. There was trash on the ground. It was as if they didn't clean up the night before or morning of. The employees were just kicking back with their feet on the desks and no one seemed to care to clean up. Other City Sports are cool, but I don't really plan on coming back to this one.
Edit 3 years later: this gym is still hella dirty. Even more so than before. I don't understand how staff never puts weights back or picks up trash around the place. Today I saw a dude walking barefoot on a treadmill. This place be nasty.

This city sports is like anyother city sports but with lot less crowd. Its huge and has a lotta parking spaces. Olympic std swimming pool and kids swim classes as well while you workout. Has big sauna place and huge activity area for cycling and ball courts. Get your membership today. It also has a muscle bar.

Over a year ago, I brought various critical missing equipment to management's attention (notably barbells and dumbbells along with some other minor ones). I've been going to the gym regularly and they haven't been replaced.
Today, I talked to Wahid, the sales manager, about it. Talking with Wahid for a few minutes, it was immediately clear that he cared about the gym and was pushing corporate hard to replace the equipment and fix some other things (e.g. elevator, sauna). His energy and enthusiasm is wonderful, and I'm comfortable recommending this gym to others solely because I can tell Wahid will make sure it stays in good shape and improves.
He even took into consideration my suggestion that the gym add a community bulletin board. Wahid is the type of manager that every gym, and every company, should strive to hire and pay well to ensure they stay!
Overall, this is a good gym, with -1 star for the slightly worn out and missing equipment.

This gym needs new Equipment. Handles/Bars/Dumbbells missing. Some of the Olympic bars are bent. Emailed corporate about the bent bar pre covid, nothings been done. Asked the staff, theyβre saying ask corporate. This gyms also missing a pair of 100/Lb dumbbells! Hopefully they get some new equipment in soon!

Make sure you know that you're paying for. Previous manager promised a month free membership then length became shorter and shorter to a week. initiation fee around 150 then , per month after is 39.99 (depending on the plan you choose) then another annual fee for 49.99. kind of a rip off in my opinion. was not told this at all in the beginning. They let the phone ring without answering, place you on hold then disconnect, then give false information if you end up speaking with anybody. Whatβs even worse? Hidden fees. Review your credit card statements regularly otherwise theyβll sneak random fees in there to try and boost up their business.

Itβs a trap. Stay away! The gym gets very crowded in weekdays where no single machine is available. The machines are also dirty and not well-maintained.
Beware of the hidden subscription fees. I was told that monthly membership costs $35/month only. However, I was charged $175 initial fee $50 annual fee as well. I ended up paying $260 from the first day!

I've been going here for about 5 or 6 years in that time the price has been reduced by the fact that I work for a school district it went from $30 to 24. Then I realized once I turn 65 at Kaiser that it was free. I've hired a personal trainer name Francisco and he is great. I highly recommend city sports I belonged to 24 hour fitness I didn't like it I belonged to a few other places as well that I didn't like. City sport is the winner

Staff are lazy and donβt even welcome you when you enter the gym, they look unmotivated and donβt want to be there. Weight racks were all out of order and from the way I seen how people react to that seems like they never seem to do their job and clean up and rack the weights to their usual spots from the start. I felt like I was back at 24hr fitness. Very disappointed.
