This Dojo is what you want for your child, whether you are brand new to the idea of Karate or have a great understanding of the method Kyoshi and his team are Excellent teachers and Mentors. My daughter has been here for a year and not only does Kyoshi Robert Torres lead with dedication he teaches mind, body, control while making it so fun for the kiddos. We have even had a few private lessons with Ms. Rodrigez and she was delightful and patient to my 8 yr old who just need a little 1 on 1. Me and wife singed our son Kai Bradfield up at the Crescent moon Karate dojo upon my father in laws recommendation ( he is a master black belt in Kung Foo) and we are so glad that we did ! We joined Crescent Moon Karate 6 months ago when my son just turned 4. Our son is very active and like any 4 year old, we struggled a bit with focus and discipline. We were debating between swimming or martial arts - we shopped around for a while and we came across Crescent Moon Karate on google.

We were mainly looking for a fun environment where our son could develop new skills and make new friends.

From the initial call to onboarding and up until now, CMK has been amazing and it has been one of the best investment we have made for our son. Pricing wise, it was not in the middle, not overly expensive, nor cheap. Based on the value it creates, we feel like the membership is priced well.

Head instructor Kyoshi has a natural gift in teaching little humans and in instilling strong foundation for the mind, body and spirit in the most fun way. The curriculum is built upon 3 pillars - focus, discipline and respect, which we love. There is a strong focus on community and continual development that spans over years and we are very glad that we happen to be nearby the dojo.

As a Black Belt of 20 years, I was happy to see my grandson become interested in Martial Arts. Living on the east coast I was not able to help in selecting a place of training. I visit at least three times a year, and I have had several opportunities to observe his training. I have been pleased with all of the instructors I have seen. I came with a background in traditional Okinawan karate and have gotten better, more open-minded and learn a lot of different things from a teacher here who truly is an expert in a lot of martial arts where his training has come from putting in the hours and really understanding Nuance of technique. Crescent Moon Karate is a gem of a dojo in LA! My whole family train here in both karate and jiu jitsu. Kyoshi Robert Torres is a wonderful teacher who really strives to lead by example. He is a sixth degree black belt in karate and a black belt in BJJ. The kids love him and he strikes a great balance between being fun and friendly but also firm and disciplined. We've been at this dojo since my son was four and this year will mark our tenth year training with CMK! 10/10 would recommend.

The Crescent Moon Karate dojo and teachers have met my expectations and exceeded them.

My son had been wanting to take Martial arts classes for while. At first he took classes at his private school. The teacher only showed up 20% of the time and the class was often canceled, and thus the results were almost non existent.
I could feel my son's disappointment because i had a similiar experience. When I was his age I was enrolled in karate classes at the YMCA. My teacher sat in a chair every class and never engaged with the students. The class did the same left right jabs and front kicks every day with no katas, ippons, blocks, etc. Half the class was sparring with no gear and kids got hurt regularly (sparring included green belts and above fighting white belts). There was no discipline, focus or respect.
So, I searched through many dojos/academys to find my son a real dojo with a proper teacher/s. My search ended with Crescent Moon Karate.
My son enjoys the class very much and loves all of his teachers. Sensei Z and Sensei Elmore are excellent teachers with the kids. They teach focus, discipline and respect but at the same time know how to implement fun which is huge when getting kids to maintain focus.
And Kyoshi is a great teacher and motivator. Kyoshi has an excellent outlook on life and is very inspirational to say the least.
We couldn't have found a better dojo!

This review is long overdue. We started 4 years ago when my son was 4. I really wanted him to learn coordination, focus, discipline, muscle/strength development, following direction, etc. We had tried jiu jitsu but it was to complex. We tried another kids’ dojo, but they were too strict and serious. Again, my son was only 4 and just wanted to have fun. He had attention issues and definitely could NOT focus for an hour-long class. At the end of hour class the teacher was very discouraging about my son’s lack of concentration/ability, etc. I pretty much gave up until a friend recommended Kyoshi and Crescent Moon Karate. On the first day I made a million apologies to Kyoshi for my son in advance and told him I understood if it wasn’t a fit and explained that my son had issues paying attention. Kyoshi didn’t seem fazed at all. He said if the curriculum was age- appropriate, the kids would do great and enjoy it. And he was right! My son loves karate, Crescent Moon dojo and most of all Kyoshi! He really has an amazing talent and love for teaching kids (especially the ones with extra struggles) and the patience of a SAINT! He’s even an inspiration to me as a parent to meet my kid where he is to help him flourish. My son’s coordination, focus and memory has come so far since we began. And he loves it. There’s plenty of classes to fit into anyone’s busy schedule and all the instructors there are trained by Kyoshi and are great!

The newest transformation I've noticed in my daughter is in her confidence! She used to hate being the only girl in class, be timid when she was called on and it felt like she was holding back! Well this girl rises her hand wanting to be first now, shows the boys how it's done when she's the only girl in class and when her BFF quit because it got too hard she kept going!! Thank you Kyoshi. Our 7-year-old son joined the dojo in the fall of 2019. Based on proximity to our home and the effusive reviews, we chose to begin classes with Kyoshi Torres. I could not imagine then how vital his leadership and genuine joy for his art would become in our son’s and our lives. His devotion and focus is contagious along with his spot on sense of humor and fun. Unmistakably one of the best decisions we have made to date for our child. He finds inspiration and motivation to participate more fully in our home and at school since beginning his training with Crescent Moon. My boys have been coming to this dojo since March of this year. We started with the intention of trying out the 6 week trial, but right away knew that this was a place to stay! All of the instructors are great with the kids! Kiyoshi's style is amazing and not only does he mean business when he's leading a class, but he knows how to have fun and get the kids motivated. The benefits of being part of CMK are endless, from learning discipline, respect, building self confidence. You will see a difference in your children. I highly recommend Crescent Moon. My six-year-old niece has been taking classes at Crescent Moon since January. Kyoshi and the other teachers lead with a balance of rigor and patience. My niece has been learning and training at her own pace. Her form and skills are very impressive for such a young girl. We love Crescent Moon Karate . Kyoshi Torres is high energy and is great with the kids. The focus is discipline and respect, not only in class but at home too. In order to test for a new belt rank, student have to have their parent(s) approval, meaning they are doing their chores/tasks at home . This has made my daughter more self sufficient and has instilled confidence and self discipline in her.She has created a daily checklist for herself including reading, writing, math and practicing karate and always tries to help around the house. This program makes learning fun and kids pick up essential skills like self defense and respect for one another. We have been going for a year and a half and we highly recommend it!

My daughter has been a member of this Dojo for a few years now. She LOVES it. The blackbelts are so supportive. I have begun to take classes too and love how the instructors are with the adults as well. Occasionally my daughter sits and watches my class and has to do homework. I will often look up (while I'm sucking wind and sweating more than a little) and see one of the blackbelts sitting with her, helping her with homework. Find another dojo in town that has that kind of service. There is no attitude at this dojo. The prices are more than reasonable and it feels like more of a family than a business.

My 5 year old son loves training here. Out of all the different classes he's taken elsewhere, on different subjects, this is his favorite. The master is great with kids and he has lots of aids that help with class training and games. The class schedule is flexible, as long as you go minimum twice a week.

Amazing school! We found out about Crescent moon karate academy thru Facebook. They were running a special and decided to give it a shot. My son is 6 years old and it's his first time doing karate. He has done other sport's and usually gets bored but with the techniques and knowledge they have showed him he is very committed. I have even caught him practicing in the shower hahaha. The staff is super sweet,and most importantly patient with the kids. I highly recommend it!

I've been going there for about a year now, I take the MMA Fitness class and I've gotten into awesome shape. The Saturday class is great because it's the first class of the morning; the second one is their 'Little Ninja' class for the younger kids. A few of the other people taking the Fitness class with me are Mom's, so they bring their kids and then stay for Little Ninja's. The instructor, Renchi Torres, does a wonderful job with the kids during both classes.

This is a great Dojo for families and for people looking to train hard. I moved out of the area and I still come out from NoHo for these classes. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
