People exercise with their phones on which is disturbing. I wrote the director Durbin, but she didn’t do anything about it. She suggested me to take care of the problem by myself.

It's a good space. Plenty of machines. The pool is big and heated nicely. It's a Y. It's the work out that matters. You can get a good work out here.

For a place that charges more than 24 hour fitness's National membership, the pool is poorly managed (the lifeguard there does not manage the lane speeds, making it difficult for people to get an actual swim workout in), there is no free guest pass for members to bring like at 24 hour fitness, and the kettlebells seem to be for private training sessions only. They staff here behaves like a premium gym for a place that is average at best.
It's too bad because the pool is actually nice. I cancelled my membership because of the lack of accountability from the staff. I asked them to properly manage the lane speeds in the pool as designated by the signs at the pool and every staff member I spoke to just shrugged and brushed me off.

Lived in La Cañada since 2006. Over the years have used the gym here regularly. All my kids took swim lessons here and did Camp Fox. But routinely when I’ve needed to either pause or cancel my membership, They continue to charge my credit card and then refuse to refund it. The parking is horrendous. The cost of this place is horrendous compared to the cost of most gyms and it actually offers less.

When called, person who picked up the phone, hung up immediately. Also, the guy who was suppose to cancel my membership charged me the fee for August before cancelling. I came on 08/02, my bill is not due till 08/03. Very mean and rude staff!!!

Why would you not put up a single sign that says "closing early today" or instruct the greeter to let people know of an early closing time? Just yelling employees telling confused gym goers that they're closed.
Plenty of fancy equipment but it's stuffy and the cleaning wipes are always dried out and the pleather is already getting sweat marks. Several huge studios locked and left bare so there's almost no room for warmups or stretching, people are left to do it in the hallways. They don't even have that many yoga classes to hold the rooms for. What's the point? It was always a love hate relationship and hate has won out.

Parking is horrible.
This location expanded much too fast, but are unable to increase their parking capacity. Unless you enjoy getting a long walk to and from the actual facility, it's ridiculous.

Great YMCA! Clean, well-equipped, and usually not as busy as commercial gyms. The staff is friendly, and the community vibe makes workouts more enjoyable. Plenty of parking and no long waits for machines.
Bonus: They offer up to two hours of childcare, which is a huge help for parents.
Only suggestion: consider extending Sunday hours for more flexibility.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a solid, low-stress gym experience.

My favorite gym and community center. Well-maintained and clean facilities. Friendly and attentive staff. I brought my 1-year old daughter almost every morning where she went to child watch and I could exercise. The child watch staff was excellent and so warm. My daughter loved them and saying hi to all different types of people from our community. The Y helped me so much as a new mom!

Overall, the gym is good and all of its equipment is kept clean and functional. It just doesn’t make sense to not take out handles from one room to another; especially when the cable machines are all in use in 1 room and there are extra handles which the other room does not have which I am looking to use. But all in all, good gym and the machines/equipment are great.

This facility turned to be a hell. They literally prevented me to enter to my class unless I sign a waiver that didn’t read it even.
What’s happening here!? YMCA is there cause of me and ppl like me, and the donations and you try to run a bully place!?
Im a Member for over a decade and this is how you are treating members now! I rather give my business and time to somewhere else. Don’t waste your money over this scam place. Even management supported this .

my child who slipped and felt yesterday the fitting room ... result of the fall, he has sustained significant facial injuries, including large bruises.
It is important to note that there were no warning signs indicating that the floor was wet prior to the incident. A caution sign was only placed after my child had already fallen. This lack of warning is concerning and raises questions about the safety measures in place... I find this situation to be quite irresponsible... i didn't hear simple SORRY.....

I think there might be a very serious problem with the material YMCA used for the flooring in weight room. It is like processed used tire rubber type which could be releasing carcinogen in the air and it smells. Also, there is not enough air circulation and it is kind of stuffy.
The equipments are great and I love them. I hope YMCA takes this issue seriously and change the floor material ASAP. There should be more fans to circulate the fresh air from the outside into the inside. The studies about the rubber floor material used for the flooring should be researched.

I heard the service with director is not good, but did not realize beyond my surprise!
I was member and very supportive Y because it is non-profit organization. But when I was a member, I experienced lots of thieves in this Y, even when you in fit room turned around people took your belongings. One time I got a senior, she answered, “I THOUGHT IT WAS MY FRIEND.”
Then one day when I was taking shower after Zumba class at noon, i overheard the shouting, “how long are you going to be there (handicapped shower room)”. After my shower I saw there was a female senior with walker and caregiver waiting outside the handicapped shower. I was friendly saying, “oh, I understand your frustration. There is only one handicapped larger room”. The caregiver surprised me by replied, “what are you talking about! I do not understand you!”. I tried in Spanish in small ….then she pushed me unexpectedly and I was tumbling down, almost fell. Then I called for help. She rain off to front desk, come back accusing me pushed her with witness! After I dressed up, I went to front desk reported what happened truthfully, but no use. I was suspended and never use this, all three foothills facilities. I tried and reached many times to talk and emailed supervisor, even director. All was the same answers. It is my community, especially after I built up the relationships with instructors and exercisers together. I felt depressed and searched what is this so called NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION. Then more disappointed, none of CEO care or work or has connection # to.
I did give many suggestions about improving the Y, but these suggestions turned out only for them to against me!

I purchased a Pilates class and set a timer to register for it right away when the class I wanted opened up, but couldn't register. I kept getting a message that I didn't have any available sessions on my account. I phoned for help, was transferred to a supervisor whose voicemail was on. I phoned back and was transferred to the other facility, and their voicemail came on. No one helped or tried to problem solve. Now, they just keep ignoring my calls. This is not good customer service at all. The App doesn't work, and neither does the online registration.

RUN! This place was the best now its THE WORST gym. I’ve been going here for 10 years.
1. They doubled pricing but cut their hours and host events that will shut down the whole gym.
2. They filled the open hours in the basketball gym with kids practices and other events so it is unusable now.
3. Workout equipment is falling apart, unorganized and overcrowded.
4. Most staff is ok, others are rude, unfriendly and on multiple occasions have turned off the lights on purpose while people are inside (illegal and very dangerous for a family friendly gym)
About 50 other guests I know have felt the same and left. Trust me find another gym.

Decent gym with lots of activities for all ages. Equipment is a bit old and in some cases quite worn, but that just means it works, right?! Not an ideal situation for anyone super serious about weightlifting as there is only but one squat rack indoors, as well as one flat bench and no dedicated deadlifting platform. Can you powerlift here? Yeah sure. Minus one star as the parking situation here is terrible and verges on unsafe. The Saturday surge for sporting events causes traffic out on the road and brings out the absolute worst in people who are all fighting over parking spots rather than parking elsewhere and walking. Closed on Sunday, too busy to be fun on Saturday. Good luck and may the gains forever be in your favor.

A totally different experience pre vs post covid.
The hours have been significantly reduced, facilities remain unavailable, equipment in shoddy condition, and staff is very rude. But the price is still much higher--$50 a month compared to the 30-40 from much better competitors.
You'll notice dumbbells falling apart or improperly labeled, equipment old and rusted, and corners cut everywhere to cheap out leaving you feeling like you're paying for a sub-rate gym. Worst of all, though, is that they have a closed training session with equipment that is virtually unused. They'll leave better equipment inside and locked for the entire day, or only for one-on-one sessions where one or two machines are used and the entirety of the equipment is left unused. Some of the staff are nice about it, but one older guy in particular will yell at anybody asking to borrow and return it.
Don't waste your money or your time and go elsewhere. 5 years ago this was a really great and affordable gym, good for family or single individuals, today it's probably the worst gym in the area.

If I knew this place didn't have heat, I wouldn't have gone on a cold day. The pool room was so foggy because of the difference in temperature between the water and air, that I couldn't even see people at the other end of the pool. Not good.

After a hiatus due to the pandemic, it is good to be back. I love the outdoors exercise area, the variety of machines, the fact that they keep the place so clean and most importantly, that it is a family-oriented place. The other weight lifters seem to be pretty focused and serious so I really love the vibe here! Thank you YMCA!

This place was my sanctuary for 30 years, with the best yoga instructors who had true training and passion. Now after covid, they have fewer classes and they are mostly geared toward the preliminary poses and breathing. We want our instructors back who knew yoga and had practiced not the art of relaxation but neuromuscular control.

A big facility with 2 pools (one small and one big) plus a jacuzzi. They have multiple studios inside and a lot of equipment. Due to Covid all the classes are held either online or outside by reservation. They are currently doing swim classes for the kids. Also, all lot of equipment was moved outside to enable people to use it. I like that they are fighting the situation and creating this safe environment to work out.

I have been a member at this facility for a long time and I always enjoyed going there until pandemic hit. My membership was on hold until Aug. After that I noticed my cc is getting charge again. I have never been notified if the facility is re-opened. I requested money refund for the months of Aug and Sep but they refused. By the pandemic going on it is not safe to go to the gym. YMCA is having financial hard time but they cannot not to refund members money with pandemic going on. I am very disappointed with this facility . If you are a member pls check your bills . They are not refunding money back. Sorry YMCA with your poor customer service. People are in financial hardship. Refund people's money. There is pandemic and nobody cares about going to gym at this time.

Ive noticed that some people and kids do not take shower before jumping in pool, not sure what are those silly guards there for.
People going to sauna dressed! in their sweaty gym cloth, gross and disgusting! and that was before covid. I wonder if it will get better after..
Also YMCA was charging my card since March even though it was not functional and not safe to visit. Why?

I really like this place because of the staff and the instructors. I would like to name these instructors that I attend their classes. They are GREAT !! Yoga class Ms. Andrea, body work Ms.. This is a nice, very large facility with a lot of rooms, and tons of Precor machines. HOWEVER, its weekend hours really suck for a gym: they close at 7 pm on Saturdays, and on Sundays they are only open 10:00 am - 6:00 pm. I find it weird for a gym not to be open early every morning. This makes it very hard to get in exercise on the weekends when Saturdays are busy with errands and on Sundays there is no way to get in exercise in the early morning before social activities begin or in the evening after social activities are over.

I definitely have had a positive experience but some of these reviews are over hyping the place. It’s cleaner than it is dirty but is by no means sparkling. Weights and lifting equipment is in four different old racquetball courts, but they have all the gym essentials. The yoga and other classes (included in membership) are high quality. Only one full size basketball court, often crowded or in use by various groups. Pool is teeny tiny and almost always taken by classes and swim team. Nice little cafe and room with fast WiFi. Highly recommend this place but don’t expect to have your mind blown by the facilities
