I’ve been doing CrossFit for over a decade and recently moved from Canada to San Diego, so finding a new gym felt a little intimidating, but joining CrossFit ATR in Mission Valley has honestly been one of the smoothest transitions I’ve ever had.

I’ve been here a little over four months now, and it already feels like home. The coaches are extremely knowledgeable, approachable, and easygoing. They actually coach; they pay attention, they cue you, and they help you get better without ever making the class feel stressful. The programming is solid, balanced, and fun, and every workout feels like the perfect one hour reset from the chaos of life.

The community is what really sealed it for me. Moving countries can be overwhelming, and finding places where you instantly connect isn’t always easy. But this gym welcomed me from day one. The people are friendly, supportive, and genuinely good humans. You feel accepted no matter your skill level you’re at.

If you’re looking for a gym that blends knowledge, kindness, and a real sense of community, CrossFit ATR in Mission Valley is it. I’m so grateful I found this place.

I can’t say enough good things about this Box. The owner (Adam), Manager (Silas) and coaches (Steph, Arturo and others) at ATR Mission Gorge are awesome — very knowledgeable, approachable, encouraging, and always paying attention to form and safety. The workouts are tough (believe me, but in a good way) and never boring. After 16 consecutive weeks I still walk out feeling like I’ve accomplished something.

The people here are what really make it special. Everyone’s friendly, supportive, and quick to cheer you on — especially when you’re just trying to survive a brutal WOD. It’s got that family vibe that makes you actually want to show up.

If you’re looking for a CrossFit Box that’s a cut above the rest, fun, and full of good energy, ATR Mission Gorge is absolutely the spot, hands down.

I’ve hit goals I never thought I could thanks to the crew here. If you’re thinking about joining, do it. You’ll get stronger, fitter, and probably make a few new friends too!

I couldn't agree with the other reviewers more. ATR is such a wonderful environment. When I came to ATR, I'd never done crossfit, and was apprehensive about what it would be. What I found was not only great workouts, and a kind community eager to meet newcomers, but unbelievably supportive coaches, leadership, and management. From the moment I started, I have felt appreciated. From workouts where I'm remembered, beloved, cheered onward, and challenged at my own individual level, to management being endlessly supportive and accommodating as my financial situation changes and I pause/modify my membership. This place ROCKS.

From day one, I felt genuinely welcomed by the team at CrossFit ATR. You can tell that owner Adam puts a lot of heart into creating an environment that’s more than just a gym — it’s a space where people of all backgrounds and fitness levels can grow and challenge themselves.

The coaching staff is outstanding. Coach Silvas brings great energy to every class and has a strong focus on form and technique. Coach Stephanie is an inspiring force — she pushes you to be your best while keeping the atmosphere fun and supportive. Coach Alex has a calm and methodical style that’s perfect for breaking down complex movements so you can actually improve, not just work up a sweat.

The programming is smart, well-balanced, and always keeps things interesting.

Since joining, I’ve seen real progress in both my fitness and confidence. If you’re looking for a place that motivates you, supports you, and helps you get stronger every day, CrossFit ATR is it.

I joined CrossFit ATR earlier this year, hoping to get back into my fitness journey. Having trained in similar environments before and competed in Spartan races, I assumed getting back into it would be easy—oh boy, was I wrong… but in the best way possible.

The coaches at ATR are incredibly attentive, taking the time to correct form and ensure every movement is done safely and effectively. Their focus on proper technique makes a huge difference, especially if you’re serious about long-term progress.

What really sets ATR apart, though, is the camaraderie. From my very first class, members were fist-bumping me and encouraging me after the workout. At first, I thought they were just being polite—but no, that’s just how this community shows up every single day.

If you’re looking for a challenge, trustworthy coaches, and a genuinely supportive atmosphere, CrossFit ATR is the place to be. I’d recommend it to people in all stages of fitness. Glad I found a new home gym.

This is the second year I done an open workout with this gym and I always say I won’t do it again lol but just having a big support with this CrossFit community I end up doing it again ☺️ It’s such a convenience that they have 2 gyms with such a variety of schedules to get a workout done and that’s huge plus. Just from having the owner or the coaches checking on you it always makes you feel noticed and that they just want to see you succeed and motivate you to keep on pushing yourself. I’m very thankful I’m part of this gym and you should definitely give it a try, they’ll help you with any modifications as well ☺️

Hands down the best CF gym I've ever belonged to! I started CrossFit in 2010, and have belonged to four different CF gyms in that time. The programming is superb, and the community events are phenomenal.

I joined CrossFit ATR about three months ago and I cannot express how welcomed everyone made me feel. I was extremely nervous about joining a CrossFit gym, I let my health and fitness journey decline during Covid and never recovered. The coaches welcomed me like I was almost family and I felt immediately at ease. They walked me through the complex lifts and always are encouraging me to get out of my comfort zone, but in a very healthy way. The gym community there is supportive and pushes you to give it your all during workouts (again, in a healthy way). I highly recommend CrossFit ATR as THE gym to join if you are looking to better yourself. 10 out of 5 stars

Easily the most welcoming gym I've been to in San Diego- and I tried out a lot of them! The coaches are so supportive and approachable. It's genuinely the best hour of my day. Even on really bad days, I feel comfortable showing up because I know I won't be judged and I'll leave feeling so much better.

This has been one of the least intimidating CrossFit gyms to walk into (in San Diego). Class sizes are small, the coaches are approachable and friendly, the programming is scalable and no one's yelling "no rep" at you, the equipment and gym space is continuously getting upgraded, it's always clean. Coaches and members are genuine and are eager to get to KNOW YOU and not just care about your results or PRs. There are kid friendly, parent friendly, and family oriented classes too--that alone can say a lot about a gym's values. Very glad I chose to try this gym instead of go where everyone else was telling me to go.

P.S. if you're eager to smash the open, qualify for something, or compete--there are [more] competitive class times and multiple locations and all of the coaches are experienced and knowledgeable to push you towards those goals as well.

When 2010 started I made the decision to get in better shape( I came from a non athletic back ground to say the least).Having done yoga for the last year Crossfit seemed like the most challenging workout I could find, Boy was I right.
I tried several of the local Crossfit gyms and found Crossfit Mission Gorge's one week free pass on line. By day 3 I knew I had found my Crossfit home.
The coaches( Ian, Betsy, James and the rent of the staff) are knowledgeable, friendly and motivating. The other members in a short time become like family.
The workouts are challenging to anyone, a beginner or a Elite athlete because they are scalable . The constant varied workout keep it from ever being boring.
I'm stronger and fitter then I have ever been in my life and can't believe I've been doing this for over 4 years now. It's not easy and you will get out of it what you put into it, but with the supportive environment and great coaching the Crossfit Mission Gorge team has created
Its imposable to not want to give it your all every time.

I've been coming to CFMG for about three years, and can't say enough great things about the coaching staff and the community. At the age of 33, I'm healthier and stronger than I've been in my entire life, and that includes playing varsity water polo. Never again will I slog through three sets of ten reps on the hip abdcutor machine at 24 Hour Fitness. You can find me doing pull-ups (yup), squat cleans and climbing ropes at CFMG!

Source: Google

★ 5

I followed the Crossfit community online for over 2 years before actually joining a box, so I had high expectations going into Crossfit Mission Gorge. CFMG met those expectations and then some. It's not the biggest box with the latest and greatest equipment and a thousand members, but there is no lack of professionalism or the sense of community that Crossfit is known for. It's relatively small size means you can form close relationships with the coaches and other athletes and that you can go to any class you want and you will know people there. The expertise of the coaches is top notch, you always get personal attention during class, and every WOD has scaling/modification built in to meet any level of physical capability. Most importantly for me, being of average fitness and having no aspirations of reaching the Crossfit games, going to CFMG is FUN. Even if its the most brutal WOD or something I completely suck at, I look forward to going to class because I know I'm going to have a great time laughing, and suffering, with the other members and my coaches. Let's be honest, San Diego has some of the biggest and best known boxes in the country, but CFMG is a local gem that combines both amazing coaching and programming in a more personal, inviting, and fun setting.

**Last note on pricing, because I am a poor college student and you might be too, CFMG's rates are great for a Crossfit gym, you're not likely to find any better at a gym that has been around as long and is as well regarded as CFMG :)

I have been with CFMG for over two years now. My sister had been CrossFitting for a while, and had been trying to get me to join. I kept telling her I "didn't want to get bulky." She would, of course, roll her eyes at me. Now, I do the same thing when people who have not tried CrossFit give me the same reason for not wanting to try it. My experience has been nothing short of spectacular. The coaches, athletes, and overall community make this place great. A wrist injury (not CrossFit related) brought my spirits down. I wasn't going as frequently, because I couldn't do many of the movements. Thanks to my awesome coaches, I was reminded that half the battle is showing up, and we can always modify. After months of mostly squatting -- and two quadzillas later -- my wrist finally started feeling better. I am now finally getting back to lifting heavy; all because my coaches and teammates motivated me to keep showing up. That's the one piece of advice I can offer about CFMG. Just show up. You won't be disappointed.
