The coaches and ownership at this gym are second to none. I moved to GV two years ago and promptly made this gym my home because of the stellar instruction, programming, and community. I highly recommend CFGR to anyone looking to up their fitness— whether you’ve never done a push up or have been active your whole life. You will thank yourself for it!

Red flags!! Red flags!! Red flags!! “After a change of management”
My health professionals recommended I join a fitness program to overcome my PTSD, so my husband and I /working professionals/ 35+ years of age started this gym about 6 months back.
I've noticed, that when others got in late for a session, they didn’t join the class and worked out on their own, so the day I got in late I thought I could do the same and hurried in. I was minding my own business until I asked Cam (the trainer) a question.. and - that was it! He told me, you got in 30 min late so I won’t help you which was understandable so I walked away to my corner, because I didn’t want to disturb the class either.
But then I saw him complaining about me to the Gym Owner “Susan” who then came up FURIOUSLY towards me and started YELLING, in the middle of the gym while the class was in progress - ‘that I can’t be walking in 30 min late and ask Cam (the trainer) questions ever again’.. and so on.. she went on schooling me for next 10 min and questioned me about things like - “where is my husband”, why do I owe her any explanations about my personal life again? Did she want a confirmation that I was singled out so she could berate me further? I was put under so much stress and pressure by watching her monitor me so I couldn't put up the equipment right and there she started to insult me again- “You don't even know this much, you have been coming to the gym for so long you should know at least this by now... And so making further such personal attacks”
No one treats their clients this way after I had already apologized to her and had requested that I can do it on my own, so please let me be.
I’m still taken aback by this experience and this incident has taken a few days to process, for me to put it together, so I can share my experience with you, for you to know actually what happened with me. There is no place where one should be schooled like a child and with no dignity, especially if you are in the health industry. It’s so disappointing to see an elderly woman over 60 years of age, shouldn’t you be the one encouraging and not putting down a woman client? I’m confused, shouldn’t you be the one acting a bit more professional being the owner? Couldn’t you have taken me to the lobby to discuss this rather than create a big drama in the middle of a class and insult me? But I also learned by digging in deeper that this is a new management since Covid so the story kind of makes sense!
She has created problems for us in the past about other issues as well - like before joining, she said dogs are welcome, but then later I was told by her to get special permissions from the trainer each time I want to bring my dog in the gym, and this is a SERVICE DOG for my PTSD we are talking about. Why are the clients here not treated with basic equality and basic dignity? She never tried to care or ask why I needed a dog to bring with me, but created problems so I had to avoid bringing my dog. The lady has to deal with her power trip issues and get educated about the basic mannerisms of being a gym owner. Hope, someday she’ll know better and learn to maintain her cool! NO ONE is supposed to be treated this way, her actions were DEMEANING and VICIOUS towards me. I would encourage everyone who is facing this behavior to please speak up, stand up, and educate, and don’t entertain this nonsense.
My husband and I are people of color, and are proud to have been graduated from the Ivy League universities of Cornell and Yale respectively, and run several businesses and own properties around the world, and we have worked hard to achieve our dreams, especially in another country. I feel, the lady not acknowledging and being disrespectful towards us just shows her lack of exposure, experience, and immaturity.
I’d not recommend this gym to anyone, especially to People Of Color, who are doing well for themselves, by working hard, away from their homes... I know their struggles and endeavors to thrive against all odds, do not allow discrimination, WATCH OUT for these ones!!!

I never considered myself a “CrossFit” guy and was hesitant to join a bunch of dudebros trying to get swole. A year and a half later and I can say that my preconceived notion was WAY off base.
The owner Susan and the two trainers Cam and Jess create a welcoming and supportive gym, which fosters a great community environment for all ages and skill levels. I’m stronger than I’ve ever been, and genuinely look forward to the programming and form coaching that CrossFit Gold Rush provides on the daily.

I was very nervous about going to another CrossFit gym since my last one; where I went before, the people & the owner were just terrible to be around, so I quit. I am SOOOOO happy I decided to join CrossFit Goldrush; the owner is so amazing and sweet and welcoming and the coaches Cam & Jess are phenomenal not only do they help you with your form and perfecting it they are amazing cheerleaders while you do a killer workout not only are the coaches and owner amazing but everyone who goes at the noon time are so awesome & I get excited to go everyday!

Cameron is a pretty outstanding coach- knowledgeable, patient, fun, and designs super engaging programming.
I had a great time dropping in from out of town. The facility is AWESOME, equipment is nice, plenty of space, lots of variety in the WODs. The gym is classic CrossFit as advertised. It’s a no nonsense place with a focus on inclusive gains.
Most members are super friendly and welcoming. I went to multiple classes and had wonderful experiences at each. The drop in process was easy and the owner was responsive over text.
10/10 all around, can’t wait to come back and visit.

I went to CrossFit Gold Rush as a drop in today. Awesome experience! Great coach/owner, great group of people to workout with, nice facility. Sometimes when you go in to a new gym you are a little unsure what the vibe will be like. I can attest that it immediately felt like I was in my regular gym back at home and super comfortable. Stop by and try them out!

We went here while in Grass Valley for work and we absolutely loved it! I have been doing Crossfit for about a year and my coworker was trying it out for the first time and we both had very positive experiences. Taylor, our coach, really knew what she was doing and the workouts were well programmed. Definitely the kind of gym you can go to for the first time and feel completely at home and comfortable. I will definitely go here again next time I'm in the area

The workouts are well planned, the coaching is positive and encouraging and the group vibe is very supportive. No matter where you are in your fitness you will fit in. Don't be afraid! Give it a try...you won't regret it!

I've been going to CFGR for the last six months - it's an amazing place with guaranteed results. What I've been trying to achieve at a "go it alone" gym for years and years I've achieved in 6 months at CFGR. Wish I would have started years ago!!! Clean, great class structure, great instructors. Their number one concern is that you don't become the typical cross fit injury statistic, which I appreciate.

I joined Crossfit Gold Rush because I was looking for a gym with a sense of community. I was a member of a different gym in town but I didn't like working out by myself and the group aerobics-type classes were not at all fun for me. I wanted to rediscover the camaraderie of sports teams that I had had as a kid and teenager but I couldn't figure out how to get this as an adult.
The first class I did at Crossfit Gold Rush (a free intro on a Saturday) was made up of simple, foundational movements and yet it was a brutally good workout. I couldn't wait to go back. Now my spouse has joined as well and we both love it.
I recommend Crossfit Gold Rush over other gyms in the Grass Valley/Nevada City area without any hesitation. Andi, Jesse, Taylor, Cam and the other coaches and staff are talented and fun to work with, the facilities are well-equipped, and the group of athletes is welcoming.
Some things I love about CFGR:
• I can always find a time to go. The 6 a.m. or 6 p.m. classes are usually most convenient for me but I have also dropped in to the ones in between when my schedule is wonky or I need a midday pick-me-up.
• Crossfit Gold Rush offers a discounted family rate. This was a great surprise when my spouse joined; with the types of memberships we chose, together we pay less than 1.5x of what my single membership cost.
• The motifs that the Crossfit Gold Rush coaches program into the workouts give a sense of continuity and progress. Some examples I can think of are the current squat hold series we are doing and a near-future posterior chain focus that Cam mentioned this week. Weightlifting Wednesday also fits here: I know that at least one day I week I can put all my energy into learning a new lift or honing my technique. The feeling of accomplishment and growth with this type of programing is amazing.
• As a beginner, I have never felt left out or less valuable to the group. Sure, I was surprised the first time the group clapped for when I finished last in a particularly hard workout. But it wasn’t awkward or patronizing. It felt good. I really, really love being able to train alongside athletes who are much more skilled and stronger than I am and know that I am still getting individual attention and personalized training from the coaches.
• Being around women who throw weights around for fun is awesome. More than this though, there is room at this gym for all athletes regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. This is can be unusual in athletic communities and especially rare in a smallish town like ours.
• The Crossfit Gold Rush coaches have different styles yet are consistent. I never question whether I am going to get a good workout because so-and-so is coaching that morning. The coaches work as a team to provide all the classes with solid leadership and it shows.
• The energy and companionship of belonging to this group that sweats, struggles and thrives together is amazing. These are regular people: I see them when I buy my groceries in Grass Valley; they work at my dentist office in Nevada City and the coffee shop closest to my house; they are my coworkers in local government. We are regular people but when we are doing a workout together, we push each other to go harder than we go on our own. We celebrate each other’s personal bests and keep each other accountable. We are strong as a group. We know each other’s names.

Whether you're a visiting drop-in or a Nevada County local, CrossFit Gold Rush is the box to try...I started my CrossFit journey at CFGR and am so thankful I did! From pull-ups to hand-stand push ups, my fitness and strength have increased in ways I never imagined. Last year, the CFGR coaching crew patiently worked with me through a wrist injury. Everyday I leave CFGR knowing I worked harder because of the support of the coaches and other athletes. I've visited other CF boxes around the country, and none of them compare to CFGR.

CrossFit Gold Rush is more than a gym...it's community! I had been a member of another crossfit box in Sacramento before moving to grass valley; the workouts and overall programming were great at the old place, but the atmosphere was not the best fit for me. Coming to CF Gold Rush, I feel like I've found the perfect crossfit community. The owners and coaches are wonderful people who are sincerely and deeply invested in helping members work hard, gain strength, and develop skills. The emphasis is always on proper form and technique, never "how much can you put up." The members in all the classes are super supportive and very encouraging...everyone here is rooting for each other. For those thinking of switching from a standard gym to crossfit training, do it! ...I mean right now, go and do it, don't waste another second...CF Gold Rush is the complete package!

I absolutely love this place. The local family that runs it is amazing. At first I thought, this is only for the young. Andi and Jesse have helped me realize that it is 'never too late'. They have an excellent knowledge of how our body works and what can be done to adjust an exercise (or the bar) to an individual's fitness level. Once mastered, you get to grow. I am over 60 and have never been an athlete. This is the first place that has helped me generate a 'can do' attitude.

I absolutely love CrossFit Gold Rush! I have been a member for just over 3 months and it has been a fitness environment unlike one I have ever experienced. Because of the coaches knowledge, work ethic, and integrity, I have advanced in my fitness level more in the last 3 months than ever. Each coach takes the time to ensure members perform proper bio-mechanics of any given skill, and knows when someone needs to scale back or can push harder. CrossFit is for anyone, regardless of fitness level or skill. CFGR shows members how to perform at their current level while at the same time building endurance and strength. In addition to the coaches, the entire CFGR community has been just as fantastic. Everyone is supportive and encouraging of one another making it a positive place to be. I always look forward to going!!

Awesome place. I love the workouts and love the coaches. Don't pay attention to the bozo that gave it 1 star. He's from another CrossFit gym in town who used a fake sign in name and gave Cross Fit Gold Rush 1 star with no comment. Try it out. You will be changed for the better.

Nothing beats a supportive community, lead by exceptional coaches. I am amazed at how much my abilities and strength have changed over the course of a year and a half of working with the coaches and other members here. The additional programs like nutrition, mobility, and yoga are great and compliment all the hard work we do during workouts. I have experienced transformations in my mental and physical health that i have never seen while participating in other workout classes, gyms, and diet programs. Crossfit Gold Rush, for me, is key to supporting a healthy mind and body.

Do you you like America?
Well i know i do. And that's why I like CrossFit Gold Rush.
Don't be an America Hater and give them a try.
Have you ever wanted to eat donuts and have abs?
Ya me too. Coach Cameron has taught me the ways of the doughnut and I haven't looked back since.
And did I mention the Babes? Chicks Galorum. (fancy new word)
I mean if you're a chick looking for cute guys. There's jacked dudes with personality who don't live in their mom's basement and you don't have to meet them on JDate.
And if donuts and hot bodies weren't enough! Everyone is super friendly from the other members to the coaches. You always feel welcome with a sense of community and comradery.

Hate going to the gym? Me too. That's why I love this place. Between the most knowledgable training and coaching staff and friendly members in a social environment, this gym is the reason I'm still in shape and didn't give up in 2 or 3 months.
The effectiveness of each workout comes from an extremely positive environment to train in. Both the coaches and members are like having a personal trainer and a cheerleading squad at every work out. You have to experience it to believe it. Everyone here seems to remember that there was a time for all of us when we couldn't do a single pull up and no matter how big or small my goals are, everyone is encouraging to help me achieve those goals. Thank you CFGR!
