Honestly the best gym I have been to. The people there are like a second family!
45 pounds down since I started and I’ve never felt better. The coaches actually take time to show you how to scale workouts when you’re starting. Would highly recommend if you want to do something fun to lose the weight.

CrossFit Loco Ocho has been a game-changer for me! When I walked through their doors six months ago as a complete newbie to the world of CrossFit, I had no idea what to expect. It seemed intimidating and a lot of misconceptions turned me off. That is not the case. From day one, the coaches at Loco Ocho blew me away with their attention, pride in the facility, and dedication to helping me improve.
The coaches here are amazing and carry years of experience dedicated to the sport. They take the time to not only teach proper form and technique but also to understand each individual's goals and limitations. Their patience and guidance have been instrumental in my progress, and I can confidently say I'm in the best shape of my life.
Aside from the coaching, what makes it a standout is the incredible community they've built. After proving not to be a one-and-done - I felt like part of a supportive family. People truly go out of their way to help, share tips, and take part in extracurricular activities. Everyone, from fellow members to coaches, is friendly, encouraging, and genuinely invested in each other's success. It's not just a gym; it's a tight-knit community that motivates you to push your limits and achieve your fitness goals.
If you're considering CrossFit or looking for a gym that cares about your journey, look no further than Loco Ocho. I guarantee that regardless of your skill or experience, you'll become healthier, happier, and have a part of your day you soon can't go without. Their top-notch in all aspects and whole heartedly make it a five-star experience that I wholeheartedly recommend.

Best most welcoming CrossFit gym in Sacramento. I was in Sacramento for work for a couple of days and dropped in. Both Josh and Jenna were welcoming, introducing me to members. Everyone was so nice and welcoming. Josh and Jenna are great coaches they are encouraging, enthusiastic, and supportive. If I lived closer this would be my choice for CrossFit. Definitely will be back. Thank you Coach Josh for the hospitality!

I started attending classes here in March and my entire energy level has increased. Also, my nutrition was not consistent until recently when I joined the 12-week tryharder nutrition group. This was a game changer. I had always been into physical fitness but the physical workouts along with the nutrition has challenged me in ways that are life changing. I am grateful for the program offered here and hope anyone reading this will try the program at Loco Ocho. The atmosphere is positive and the energy level is amazing. The coaches here will give you the shirt off their back! I’ve witnessed it! Thank you Loco Ocho!

Dropped in to this gym a few weeks ago on a short trip to Sac and it did not disappoint! Great selection of hours on a Saturday morning (many gyms only offer 1 time mid-morning, but they had 3 I think). I enjoyed the programming, thorough warm up, upbeat music, and coaching was appropriate to the athletes, and fun! Everyone in the class was super friendly and welcoming. Would definitely return if I find myself in the area again!

I hate working out, but it was time. Ocho makes it slightly enjoyable to hate working out. Nice coaches that tailor it to your fitness, (or lack thereof) and inspiring and encouraging people working out there too... I must admit that just the warm ups are equivalent to what I'd do for an entire workout on my own, so i signed up for an entire year to see what will happen...

This is more of a community with a passion for fitness with a vision to better ones self and encourage others to do the same. It's comprised of top notch athletes to folks who just want to stay in shape. It ranges from all ages and backgrounds. Matt and Josh ensure you feel welcomed, confident and accommodate workouts to fit your abilities while at the same time challenging you to improve those abilities and elevate your bar. If you can't, then try harder.

I have been a member here for over 3 years, and I can’t say enough wonderful things about CrossFit Loco Ocho. The trainers, Matt and Josh, have poured their hearts and souls into this gym and its community, and they are committed to your success. It’s like working out and being personally trained every day. The members here are dedicated, welcoming, and inspiring and will cheer you on through your ups and downs. You grow and improve together. The gym is huge and immaculate, and the owners upgrade the equipment regularly. This gym and community has changed my life, and I could not imagine being without it. I whole heartedly recommend this place to anyone who is looking to improve his or her fitness. You won’t regret it!

I was in town for the holidays and even though I was nursing a shoulder injury, decided to try a few places in the area. This was my spot in Sacramento (bounced between Sac/SF). Josh and Matt worked with me modifying as necessary, and I enjoyed that they don’t deviate much from the way they do things, i.e, do the stretches right...I got some friendly ribbing, not the most limber. Workouts were great, which is the most important, great programming from them. I came 3 or 4 times, once in between tried another local place and it was an epic failure. I’ll be back and will be much further along, 8 months into the CrossFit game, loving the journey.

Strap in, get some popcorn. Allow me to bring you into my internal thoughts while checking out the Ocho....
After asking for recommendations via NextDoor with actual advice rather than, “don’t do CrossFit,” member Becky and trainer Matt chimed in quickly to invite me to CrossFit Loco Ocho.
After several weeks of driving by at 6:30am to get to a CalFit “boot camp” class (I know, I know...) I saw in their big glass window that everyone was just sitting in a circle, chillin.’ I would later find out that this is what is known in CrossFit circles as “stretching.”
I walked in to my first 6am class (scheduled in advance because I’m not a barbarian who just shows up unannounced) and was greeted by Josh, an enthusiastic golden retriever of a guy with the springy energy of someone who never drank coffee but somehow had gotten a hold of 1/4 cup of Starbuck’s finest. “HIIII! I’m Josh! I saw there was a new car in the parking lot and WELCOME!” That’s it...I was revved up, excited. I’ve been here 10 seconds and I was pretty much all in.
At first I was intimidated...looking around and seeing 15ish other people in what looked like ankle weights. “Damn,” I thought, “I’m not sure what anyone is going to accomplish using those while doing wall balls, but vaya con Diós I guess.” I later realized they were knee sleeves.
The workout was probably awful. Part of my brain has probably blocked it out. Someday I’ll be on a psychiatrist’s couch and remember...then cry, but in a good way.
I signed up later that afternoon and worked out the next day. Then announced on the community Facebook group that I’d be back every day that week. Then spent the next three days unable to bend my knees. Eventually I learned the difference between what is “pain” and what is simply “discomfort.” I’ve had many joyful dis-comfortable days since then as I’ve becomed accustomed to not being a total p*ssy.
I met Matt at some later point the next week. He’s one of those guys who knows what he’s doing and if you don’t take his guidance (South Park ski guy voice), “You’re gonna have a bad time.” Each time I’ve decided against his suggestion it’s been a bad day. I may be a chubby almost-40-year-old but I’ve got a macho boss lady streak until I have to put up. Listen. It’s not his first day. Pizza/French-Fry his way.
The Ocho has a great way of eliminating what psychologists call “projection.” If I we’re to have only one criticism, it’s that Matt and Josh don’t walk around with a handheld mirror to hold up every time someone thinks they are a “control freak” or “micromanager.”
I’ll have been there two years next month, and I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon.

This has been a pretty awesome experience. I have been doing crossfit for just over 3 years now and have no need to drop into other boxes. This place is like nothing I have ever experienced.
I remember my first workout here. I originally came to "not die early due to a lifestyle of pizza and beer" which is what I wrote on my waiver. Matt, the coach, corrected my horrible form throughout the entire workout. There was even an actual child working out near me who didnt require nearly as much instruction as I did. I wanted to lift weights during the WOD that were way too heavy for my skillset, but Matt quickly remedied that by choosing my weights for me. (He probably observed me wheezing during the warmup and realized I was not as fit as i thought i was.) He gave me these tiny weights and told me to show him what I got. I did not have much to give. He also stopped me a good amount of times to correct my form an to ensure I didnt severely injure myself. It actually felt like I was receiving 1 on 1 personal training even though there were many other athletes there. Three years later and the coaches still pick my weight - mostly because I do not go heavy enough. There are only two primary coaches (Matt and Josh) and an endurance coach (Keach) so they get to know and understand your abilities intimately.
This box has been a dream. It's at an awesome location (next to the little whale swim school - check them out). Its also very clean and well maintained. The coaches, especially Matt, are very well trained control freaks who enjoy helping people get more fit while simultaneously being as safe as possible.
5 stars, definitely recommend.

I came to the Ocho on the recommendation of a friend. I am in my 50s and was formerly a triathlete prior to herniating two discs. I tried working out on my own combined with physical therapy for the last 10 years. The result was always the same.....felt good until I strained my back.....6-8 week recovery. Repeat until you give up.
Both Josh and Matt listened to my goals and my prior experience and welcomed me the Ocho Family. They tailored workouts for me and I have been at it for 10 months. I am doing movements I thought I would never be able to do again. Both Matt and Josh have been supportive and make the box a great place to be. Humor is one of their favorite tools.
The reason I came to the Ocho was to strengthen my back and core to manage my back injury. Not a week goes by without a reminder from Josh or Matt (often both) that the workouts are intended to provide functional fitness. I certainly got to experience what that means. I went snowboarding with my daughter last week and this week and both times I have NO BACK PAIN, during or after. The first time in 10 years!!!!! Do the things inside the Ocho so you can do the things outside the Ocho!!
Lastly no review would be complete without stressing that the Ocho Family is a great group of people from all age groups, fitness levels and walks of life. I have not met anyone who is not supportive and a pleasure to be around. I look forward to many years at the Ocho!

This was a pretty horrific experience. I have been doing Crossfit for 8 years I have dropped in to about 30 different boxes. This was like nothing else I have ever experienced. I came to “move and get a workout” was what i wrote on my paperwork. Matt the instructor corrected me throughout like i was a child. On the WOD I wasn’t able to chose my own weights until he had instructed me to “ put on the green plates. Show me what you got”. He stopped me 5 times during he the WOD to correct my grip etc. i explanation grub wS due to the extreme arthritis in my hands. I have been to 3 other Sacramento boxes while visiting family and have enjoyed them thoroughly. This was a nightmare. Great location beautiful gym. A demeaning control freak for an instructor.

As a transplant from another gym:
New Years Day 2019: everyone wants to start the New Year off right, right?! My previous gym wasn't open on Jan 1st but I wanted to work out, to start the year off right. #newyearnewme Luckily, the Ocho was open and I decided to do a drop in. After a few drop ins I realized I wanted to switch gyms - yes, the best decision I have made for my CrossFit journey.
Between Coaches Matt and Josh (Coach Lee and Keach too!) they really get to know you as an athlete - there's only 2 of them so they will get to know you, and how you move: your weaknesses and strengths! And I swear they know exactly what to say to you (me!) when I need a push (or shove) of encouragement. The coaches are very knowledgeable about ways to modify all the movements for every level of athlete! There's always something for everyone!
One HUGE thing that really makes a difference for me is the coaches do the programming (themselves!) AND they do the SAME workout the class does. You might not put much value on that, but to me it's a positive statement that we're all good enough for the same wod, even if we need to modify (Not "scale"!) some movements. (Vocabulary is key folks!)
I've never felt so athletically productive in an hour! We warm up, stretch, practice drills and either lift or do a metcon. They have developed a well run CF gym that is inclusive to all and they encourage everyone to #tryharder!
I've been at the Ocho for 9 months now and I am loving the coaching and community! #ochonation
There are more than 40 classes a week to fit your busy schedule and there's so much room for activities!

I have trained at CrossFit Loco Ocho for nearly two years now, new to CrossFit, I was intimidated to join at first but caught on pretty quick with the help of all the coaches. To put it simply I’ve gotten into the best shape of my life over that time. The facility is top-notch and set to standard. The coaches Matt, Josh, Chris and Lee (intern), all athletes themselves are tremendous, supportive and very knowledgeable. The programming is always varied and challenging. The membership base has a good mix from beginners all the way to elite competitors and everyone in the community is very friendly.
Really happy I joined this gym, the only regret is not having joined here earlier. This is the only gym I’ve gone too consistently! If you live in Sacramento and you’re into fitness and or a crossfitter and you haven’t stop by CrossFit Ocho Loco you should re evaluate your life!
Thank you CrossFit Ocho Loco for your continued support in helping me achieve my fitness level goals and daily encouragement to #TryHarder.

I had heard about The Ocho for a little over a year from a friend that went there that I knew from a previous gym. My wife and I finally gave in and dropped in. Since that day we have not looked back, and stopped trying any more gyms and made the switch.
This is our 4th Crossfit box in just shy of 10 years of Crossfit, with the first 2 changed because of location changes, one from the east coast back to the West and the second being a change of location/gym closure.
Matt/Josh were very receptive to us when the found out we were just interested in a drop in. The big concern we had is that we came from a very kid friendly gym, and as our son at the time of the switch was just shy of 18 months, we were unsure how the change would be. My wife and I enjoy working out together, so there was no question we needed a gym that we could tote our wild-man with us, as he has been in the gym since he was 6 weeks old. At first he was surprised at the change, but Matt's daughters who are staples at the gym, made sure to always hang out by him in his pack n play if they were there. Josh has a little one under a year, so our son loves to say hi to him (sometimes ever tries to wake him up if he is there during class and sleeping). Other gym members who bring in their kids do the same thing with him as well, and as we have been there about 6 months, he comes into the gym expecting VIP attention from all the crossfitters of that class (toddlers apparently always except this as this gym has a range of kids from 4 months to adult that tag along with their parents) and Running in the work out, and your outside, no worries, coach yells at him and throws peanuts when needed. (totally kidding on the peanut throwing) but your kid does have someone with eyes on. With our first priority taken care of it came to the second and the reason a gym switch was needed.
After our main priority was addressed, comes the second question I had, with will my fitness improve. When we we made the change, i felt that my fitness was lacking, and from someone who played competitive sports from early ages, to the Army in my 20's, to not being as active in my 30's that I once was, but kept working out because I knew the benefits to my heath. The Ocho changed that, you want programming that is gonna test your physical and mental strength? heck mark here. You want a community that loves to suffer together? check mark here. You want coaches to hold you accountable, but at the same time provide the coaching you need to better your movements and fitness? double check mark here.
You are going to improve as a crossfitter here, and the coaches do check in with you, if you are missing the gym, or they know your diet isn't the best? I also have a full gym in my garage and when I do home workouts, Matt does always comment to make sure I know he does read my notes from the workout, as we use Beyond the White board for tracking.
I know this is the time of year that people start to make the commitment for a new year/ new you, so I wanted to be able to provide a review based on my priorities of parenthood and my experience of the Ocho workouts. They make you feel welcome as soon as day 1, and the way they coach you does not change from day 1 through what I have seen with their tenured members.
You want to get fitter, be part of a community, get the coaching you deserve, and be held accountable, then I would give the Ocho a try.
also, no hidden fees, all classes are included, 7 days a week, with Friday night barbell club, and Sunday Endurance included.

My previous box was closing down and I started looking around for other gyms and was not finding a fit. Gave a few a try and almost gave up until I came across CrossFit Loco Ocho. A good amount of members from the old box told me to check it out so I came in for a free class and was instantly hooked.
Josh and Matt (owners/coaches) provide an excellent environment to help you achieve your fitness goals. You have every mix of fitness level and the workouts keep you coming back for more. Top notch programming and I look forward to it every day. The way they mix up the training is something I have never seen before. One weekend your flipping tires, the next you’re riding a bike, and before you know it they have you doing a kayak race along with a trail run. I'm extremely happy that I made the choice to join CrossFit Loco Ocho. I have been a member for a little over a year and the things am able to do now to what I was doing before do not even compare.
The members are very welcoming and supportive. One of the best workout communities I have ever been part of. If you ever wanted to give CrossFit a try I highly recommend checking out the Ocho. You will not be disappointed.

I wandered in to CrossFit Loco Ocho scared, intimidated, overweight, and out of shape about two years ago. There was a stigma about CrossFit that it would be a gym full of crazy athletes who would be intimidating and judgemental, but I forced myself to face my fears... and I’m so glad that I did.
The members the Ocho immediately greeted me with open arms and accepted me for who I was, and where I was at in my life and fitness journey... no judgements. The coaches, Josh and Matt, were professional and methodical in their approach of teaching me the fundamentals of the movements, and carefully scaled each of the workouts to my level and experience so I would safely be able to complete whatever was thrown at me.
...And the workouts are awesome and challenging. Through consistency, hard work, and learning about health, nutrition and diet, I have lost a substantial amount of weight, but what I have gained is even more valuable: fitness, discipline, self-esteem, and relationships that will last a lifetime.
