This is an amazing business, with a super well put gym and an amazing community built by a great leader, Coach and owner Ruth. She is an awesome coach and community leader. She is serious at teaching, bit also quite funny. All the other instructors are also amazing , and they deeply care about their students well-being and progress.

I was looking for that friendly Box where I could find community and work on my CrossFit skills and I found it! So welcoming, so supportive, I couldn’t be happier to show up to the 5am every weekday. My wife has joined up and hopefully our daughter will catch the bug too after bringing her to the “Bring a friend” free class. Another thing that have been clutch is the recovery room with a sauna and cold plunge. These old bones need to recover on Saturdays and it definitely helps!

This is a gem of a CrossFit Gym in the Bay Area. The space is large enough to accommodate good sized classes and not feel cramped, the equipment is in great shape and everything is kept very clean and tidy.
The programming is nice and the coaches are all very knowledgeable and personable, the gym members are all welcoming and it feels like a great community.

I am in my early 40s, never been an athlete and really love the San Leandro CrossFit gym. All of the instructors have been patient, supportive, encouraging and warm. They’ve made me feel like I can get stronger in an efficient way without hurting myself. They push me, but also understand when I need a break. I love the pace of the workouts and definitely feel myself getting stronger. Now my family has reunited, I come with my husband and our kids! It’s a warm and inviting community that truly cares for you! Happy to have found this gem of a place!

If you’re looking for a gym with great instructors and a well supportive community look no further, Cross fit is where it is!
I am so happy I made the decision to give CrossFit a try and oh my, it was indeed the best decision I made! Workouts are intentionally structured to work every muscle and give you results, whether that might be changing your body composition, loosing weight, or just getting stronger, there is something for everyone here.
Not only are the instructors professional and knowledgeable but they go above and beyond to ensure that all your questions are answered and that you are performing these exercises correctly and provide alternatives when ask. They also go above and beyond when asked to make recommendations for stretching exercises and nutrition.
Everyone here is friendly in every sense of the word even an introvert will feel right at home!

I joined crossfit SL feeling very shy and unsure, but from day one, the coaches and members welcomed me with open arms. Everyone is so friendly and supportive. It Immediately felt like a community. The coaching is top-notch and their focus on proper strength/endurance training has really helped me grow. I recently completed my first climb walk, something I never thought I could ever do. It’s all thanks to their encouragement and expert guidance! Highly recommend to anyone, no matter your fitness level!!!
P.S. I’ve just completed my first month and have already seen a big improvement in my strength and endurance. As a mom of two toddlers, that means a lot!!

I absolutely love Cross Fit San Leandro. I was apprehensive about cross fit and paying for a gym, but once I went to one class, I knew it was worth it. The workouts are really excellent, the coaches take a lot of time 1:1 to make sure you have the right form, the studio is super clean and organized, and the people are incredibly welcoming and encouraging and diverse. With CrossFit, I’m getting stronger way faster than when I trained for a marathon, lifted weights at home, or did yoga all week. Highly recommend

Great coaches who know how to guide and support (and have fun!) without being overly intense - just the right energy and balance. Also, those playlists are fire. Community is really great too (honestly one of the biggest draws for me). A bunch of real folks encouraging each other, sharing laughs (i don't think i've ever laughed so much while working out, it's great), and making everyone feel welcome, especially newbies like me. It is more than just WODs, it's also bootcamps , strength classes, open gym, etc. something for everyone. Great environment where I can see friendships form naturally and where health and fitness are genuinely FUN!

I just finished a class pack and already purchased another. I really like the classes here. I've taken classes with Inez, Ruth, and Stephanie. They're all great.
What I was worried about was being pushed past my limit but they don't do that! They respect the weights that I choose for myself.
Also, it's a very welcoming environment. Sometimes I just use the bar or don't push too hard because it's been awhile since I've weight lifted and I'm not sure how much I can lift yet. I feel like no one cares or is judging for how much you can do.
As long as you're doing your best and giving yourself a challenge, that's all that matters here. And if you're not understanding what to do, they never mind if I ask them to explain to me once or twice.. or three times 😅
Also the warmup is long and much needed! They really care about injury prevention and proper form.
Definitely check them out!! Very encouraging space for all body types, all ages, all levels of abilities :)

I've belonged to a few box gyms over the past 15 years and joined the CrossFit circle about 3 years ago. Since then whenever I travel I make it a point to go workout at the local CF to see their methods and learn anything new about coaching and expanding my understanding of movement patterns. CF San Leandro has far exceeded any other CF I've seen. Their coaches are incredibly knowledgeable, encouraging and kind when working with their clients. You can tell the owner, Ruth, has established a close knit community looking to stay connected through working hard but listening to the body first. Great gym, and so glad to have joined. Hella class options too.

I LOVE this place! I’ve had such a wonderful experience with every single coach! The classes are really varied and keep me occupied. Every coach is extremely willing to work with me/everyone on modifications when needed. Several people including myself came in with pre-existing injuries, and it is so great to be able to do a variety of exercises and have modifications and suggestions to keep the classes challenging but doable in a safe manner. I’m definitely going to keep going, and would recommend it to anyone thinking about giving CrossFit a try.

I moved to the bay area and was looking for a new crossfit box. I tried out 3-4 different gyms but this one was the winner! Really bummed I didn’t find them sooner. The facility is great and the coaches are awesome! Women led too! I feel stronger and healthier after a month of being there. I really love the class times and availability. This is my first CrossFit experience and third month here.
I have been to the other group classes or gyms in the bay area but this is the first place where I have felt most motivated.
I was so nervous on my first day when I joined CrossFit as everybody else was pro at what they were doing & I was very weak in lifting weights, doing wall walk or hanging on the rods (even for a second)& doing pull ups. Within 3 months I can do most of the things.. I am improving in lifting weights, i can at-least take both of my feet of the ground for wall walks & hang on the rod for at least 30 seconds(still need to learn the pull ups).
Area: This place is quite big compared to the other place where you do group classes. They have good numbers of equipments & everything.
They have parking space near the building but sometimes it’s difficult to find a parking (which happens with me in the morning class).
Coaches:
This CrossFit has really nice & experienced coaches and very friendly people/group. They all will support you in your workouts which is the most motivating thing for me.
I haven’t attended classes with all of the coaches but I wanted to appreciate coach Ruth & Ines. I recently had minor knee injury for which Ruth suggested me great stretches & workouts which really helped in my pain. She is awesome.
I usually attend 9am class with Ines kaney & for me she is THE BEST. I don’t know why but I feel most motivated & comfortable in her class. She gave me so many alternative workouts, keeping my knee injury in mind(i am so glad). Sometimes she even writes the workouts for me with reps on the small white board. That’s the sweetest thing & so nice of her (as I always forget my workouts 🤪).
I thought that I won’t be able to do any CrossFit workout after my knee issues but that’s not true.
I am sure that if you’ll go to this place with some injury… you can always ask your coach or ruth & they’ll give you the alternatives. Which is the best.

If you are reading this, it is not too late. Please consider joining Crossfit San Leandro over any other gym locally. The Crossfit Community is a small, supportive and tight knit community. Any where you do crossfit, whether locally in the bay area, out of state, or even internationally, you will always be welcomed to a box (Crossfit Lingo for gym) where you feel like you're at home.
However, not all boxes are built the same. Because crossfit gyms are affiliates, each crossfit owner brings their own flair to the business. That is because unlike a big box gym that requires uniformity in order to scale, you can trust that each box you visit is a reflection of that particular community, the owner, and the people who attend. It is truly beautiful.
I have been all over the bay area; and as my needs changed, I became more aware of what makes a quality Crossfit gym.
A good gym meets these requirements and standards consistently
1. A great crossfit gym is mindful of membership pricing. Crossfit is a bit more expensive than other gyms, but there is a reason for it. You are getting quality programming from experienced trainers, retired pro athletes, nurses, cancer survivors, doctors, nurses, and leaders in fitness. You want to make sure that the services that are being provided for you actually make sense
Crossfit San Leandro provides reasonable pricing, that delivers high quality services.

My first crossfit home was in Virginia, and Crossfit San Leandro was the second box I called home. Whenever I travel, I will try to visit different crossfit gyms, so my review here is mostly based on my experience from my first gym and around 10 other gyms.
1- Social: This is one of the few crossfit gyms that doesn't do the question of the day. QOTD usually happens during warm-up that brings members together and let us get to know each other better. It's no big deal that CFSL doesn't do this, but it is also the first crossfit gym that doesn't really interact with their member (at least for me) through social media. They would not follow you back on IG or replying/reposting workouts when you tag them. Again, no big deal if they do not do that. It just shows how much they do not really care for the members. My first gym will repost, comment, like things that we posted, which makes us feel like we are a part of the community & family. In conclusion, I don't feel a sense of community from the gym at all. Unless you are the cool, strong ones, prepared to get ignored.
2- coaches: There are multiple coaches, and some of them are really knowledgeable and nice. There are also some who will call you out in a rude way when you use the wrong technique or have the incorrect form. Hear me out, I prefer getting called out when I am not doing the workout correctly. That's what the coaches are here for - to guide and correct. However, the ways and situations I got yelled at a few times during a workout were humiliating and uncomfortable. Throughout my 2.5 years of crossfit experience, more than 10 crossfit gyms that I have visited, all the mistakes that I got called out for during the workout, none of them make me feel as naked and as ashamed as I felt in Crossfit San Leandro. I'm sure they didn't do it maliciously, but I was surprised by how humiliating they made me feel, for the first time in my crossfit experience.
There was also a time when I joined the barbell club (or weightlifting class) on a Saturday. It was just me and some girls. For the first 15-20 mins of the class, the coach would just talk with the girls and totally ignore me. Im not sure what i did to offend her, but it was super uncomfortable. As a queer person, it's hard for me to think it's not a personal attack, even though they do have a rainbow flag hung over their wall. I told myself I would never join a weightlifting class anymore.
3- facility: The place is huge, which is super amazing. I love working out in this gym because the members would rarely wait or fight over any equipment/bars. The way running is mapped out is also super clear. However, the facility is always full of dust, pet hair, and chalk. It's fine when the workout doesn't include any push-ups or burpees. Whenever there is a workout that involves the body touching the floor, it always gives me the ick. I have seen worse conditions in other gyms, and the cleaniness of this gym is prob mid tier.
Personal thoughts: My first crossfit gym in Virginia made me fall in love with crossfit. They really did build a whole community, and I felt super involved and included. I was a part of two crossfit games open, improved together, yet having fun even outside of the crossfit gym. Crossfit San Leandro made me fall out of love with crossfit. I was there from June to November. Besides feeling happy by seeing myself breaking PRs, I didn't find any joy in workout out here. I have never had any injuries (that prevented me from working out) from doing crossfit for 2.5 years, until last November, when I injured my left wrist in CFSL for the very first time. It hurts, and I couldn't do any movements that require me to bend my wrist, such as a clean. I have to stop my membership so I can recover, and the craziest thing is, I'm relieved I don't have to go back to the gym despite how passionate I used to be towards crossfit.
Overall: This gym has potential for the right people who are cool enough or just there to start out. I am just used to a box that genuinely cares for their members, in and outside of the gym.

Before joining CrossFit San Leandro, I had never braved the intensity of crossFit, finding it overwhelming and daunting. However, my experience since joining has been nothing short of extraordinary. The environment allows you to progress at your own pace, with coaches who are not only amazing but also incredibly supportive and helpful. In just two months, I’ve already begun lifting weights, starting small and gradually building strength. The sense of community here is formidable, with a genuine concern for each individual’s well-being, ensuring proper form to prevent injury. Despite the inevitable soreness from being out of shape and engaging various muscles, I’m thoroughly enjoying the diverse range of exercises, providing a full-body workout each day and week. I would recommend this gym if you are looking for amazing people to work out with.

You don't have to be a member of the gym to make appointments with the most wonderful massage therapist, Karla! I've been a client of Karla's for about 5 years now, and she has been simply amazing with her healing abilities and expertise. She helped me recover from an intense frozen shoulder a few years ago and has always been there to ease my tension and stress and loosen tough knots in my neck, shoulders, and back. When you see Karla, you're not just getting a routine massage but a customized session targeting your specific needs. She even offers cupping and can advise you on specific self-massage techniques, too. I've followed Karla to Crossfit San Leandro not only because of her expertise and skills but also because of her compassion and empathy. I recently joined this Crossfit gym, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. From the moment I walk through the door, I was greeted with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, that instantly put me at ease.
The trainers here are top-notch, and their knowledge and expertise. When it comes to CrossFit techniques are truly impressive. They take the time to work with each individual, ensuring that are form and technique are on point to maximize our results and prevent injury. They are not only knowledgeable, but also incredibly supportive, and Friendly, which makes the whole experience that much more enjoyable.
What I love most about this gym is the sense of community. The members here are incredibly welcoming and you can feel the camaraderie as soon as you step inside. It’s clear that everyone is here to support one another regardless of their fitness level. Whether you’re a seasoned CrossFit athlete or a beginner, you’ll find people who share your passion, and are eager to help you succeed.
Overall, this CrossFit gym has a fantastic, friendly vibe that keeps me motivated and excited to come back for more.

I’ve been a member of CFSL for 5 years. I try to recruit everyone I know to become members. This gym has truly been a gift to my overall health and I have some gnarly joint issues. With that being said I want to highlight a new addition to the gym - Massage Therapist Karla. With my joint pain, getting a massage isn’t always helpful but Karla is a gift. Karla is incredibly talented and really listened to me as a patient. Karla pinpointed my area of concern that had been nagging me for a few months. My massage was so healing that I made a follow up two weeks later and signed up for the membership. I highly encourage all current members, new members and everyone in between to make an appointment. Karla really is the best.

Massage therapist Karla Cruz is a new addition to Crossfit San Leandro. I have some shoulder issues and she has been so great at helping with my rehab. I personally like a massage with the focus being on fixing a problem and not just for relaxation and she is able to do both. There is also the option for a monthly membership which saves you some money.

Today marks my 2nd year anniversary at CrossFit San Leandro. I honestly never thought I’d be a “crossfitter”. What got me to enjoy CrossFit is the community here at CFSL. The coaches here really cares about you! Safety is also top of mind for them. They are attentive, extremely helpful, engaging, and supportive—they will offer you modifications until you reach your desired level or results so there is always something that you are able to do!
The people here are bunch of friendly humans. Everyone cheers for you here. I always felt welcome and never outcasted. Folks here are genuinely welcoming. This is the main reason why I continue to show up.
This gym helped me get strong, healthy, and I have gained so much confidence. Am really glad I joined and glad to have met these bunch of humans!

Love this gym. Been going here for a few months have the individual sessions vs the monthly pass since I go about 1x a week but have travel and other things that get in the way. Only positive experiences so far- helpful coaches, family friendly! Been going while I’ve been pregnant and very supportive of modifications and checking in. Also some people bring their (surprisingly well behaved) babies while they work out which is awesome. Highly recommend!

I was in search of a local gym/fitness class, as my at-home-Peloton workouts were plateauing and getting lonely.
CrossFit SL checked boxes that I had in mind, with a few that were pleasant surprises:
Productive, efficient, & fun workouts
Coaches are great motivators who are knowledgeable and attentive
Accommodating to all fitness levels
Local for me
Supportive and friendly community
No ego-amigos from members & coaches
I started in Dec 2022 as a newbie to CrossFit's workouts and acronyms. After each session my arse is always firmly kicked, while releasing max amount of endorphins. I look forward to continuing my fitness progression with CrossFit SL. Highly recommended!!!

I’ve tried couple of crossfit gyms near me but this one seemed the best for many reasons.
1. Top class coaching staff, special shout out for coach Ines and Ruth!
2. They are extremely attentive to the postures, moves, techniques, etc. Learning everyday to be more efficient and get better.
3. I started here in June and have many friends already. Great community!
4. Athletes in the gym. Many athletes love to spend extra time, put extra effort in the gym. I started learning from them outside of my classes.

I really love coming here to workout because the gym is well-maintained, spacious, and well-equipped for even the most serious athletes among us. Even better, due to the fact that the trainers are very knowledgeable, encouraging, and observant of proper technique and overall safety, people of any athletic ability will benefit and enjoy working out here. I've been a member here for over a year, and I also frequent some top lifting and CrossFit gyms across the country. To say I adore coming 'home' to CrossFit San Leandro is an understatement.
The coaches are genuine and comfortable to be around. There's no 'type' to the members here - all ages, shapes, and colors get great vibes. The programming is balanced and promotes healthy growth. Challenging movements get modified to current ability and ramp up safely and accessibly, and experienced members are driven to progress above and beyond what's on the board without the pressure to risk injury. There's also a gorgeous focus on community and charity. To sum up, it's a great workout every day, and I'm happy to hang out here well after class is over. It's a delight to run late because I was having too much fun at the gym.

CrossFit San Leandro is the best gym I've ever been to! As someone who has been obese/ overweight for most of my life, it was difficult to find a gym where I felt comfortable to work out. But CrossFit San Leandro truly accommodates to all sizes & ability levels and has a very positive & encouraging environment!
The classes are phenomenal & coaches give clear instructions & demonstrations for all of the movements. They'll help adjust your form to help you get the most out of the work out & prevent injuries. If you're not able to do a specific movement, there's always an alternate option that'll work out the same area of muscles & get your heart pumping just as fast. By the end of the class, everyone is out of breath no matter if you're a beginner or have been working out for years.
It's truly worth the price & one of the best gyms in the Bay Area!!

I’ve been crossfitting for over 10 years and can say confidently this is one of the best gyms I’ve been to…
1) The space is massive and new
2) They have an abundance of equipment (and TONS of rehab specific equipment, important for “experienced” Crossfiters)
3) Owner and members are super friendly, helpful, and supportive…which I can feel even as someone who just does open gym
4) They have a flexible open gym
Love this gym! And I really allreciate all the owners advice, who is a practicing Physical therapist, to help me get back into Crossfit safely.

I joined CrossFit San Leandro this January 2022, and I love it. People who train here are all friendly and supportive, and the culture is great. But, most importantly, the coaches here CARE about every single one of us. Before joining this gym, I knew nothing about CrossFit and was afraid I'd get injured from the workout. This gym is awesome! The coaches are all very friendly, welcoming, and want to get you to be your best. I started here with no experience with CrossFit. I did not know what a clean, snatch, or jerk was. It was not at all intimidating to start as I was immediately welcomed and the coaches do a great job with all skill levels. They focus on proper form and give pointers every step of the way. The workouts are great, and I cannot get enough. The workouts are varied enough that I never get bored of it. I am definitely stronger and have developed definition. I am not the strongest, and no one cares who is the strongest, but it matters that you strive to achieve the goals you set out for yourself. The community of members is also incredibly nice. The ages and skill levels of the members are diverse. They are all very supportive and absolutely fun to do the workouts with. Absolutely top notch. I've been to boxes on both costs and inland and this is my favorite one so far. I have worked out with several coaches here; they offer insight and encouragement but do not go crazy pushing people. I really appreciate that because it is easy to hurt one's self if over-encouraged.
This place is also inviting and there are people of varying levels of ability; honestly, as a gym should be. Therefore, it seems like folks are able to work out without feeling self-conscious.
Honestly, the first few weeks getting used to a new gym are a drag for me. I have to force myself to go. Here, I have to deliberately pace myself and take days off in between visits.

Being in an ordinary gym for over a year I got really bored and was up for trying something new, something different. I'm one of those people that has heard a lot about crossfit (online and word of mouth) and thought it was only for idiots who (obviously) love to hurt themselves. Scepticism at its best. Well, little did I know how much surprise I was in for.
CFSL has an introductory course (6 lessons in the course of two weeks), which is great, cause if turns out you don't like crossfit, you can still just stop/quit afterwards (at least you gave it a go, right?). But that probably won't happen. For me it was love at first sight. Or should I say lift. :)
Ruth and LeeAnne (the owners) are both very well trained in physical therapy (masters and doctorates) and they always ask about your injuries and/or any other concerns/trouble you might have (prior to working out). They take great care of showing how to do things the right way so you don't get injured. So does the rest of the staff (Mae, Amanda, Marcus, Jason, Joanie, Jesseca and Miguel). They are all great!
After half a year (or 100 WODs later) I can honestly say I'm not quitting. If anything, I might get myself more than just 3 classes per week. There wasn't a boring moment in these 6 months for me (if anything I'm more and more driven to do things that I currently still can't do). I was in an ordinary gym for more than a year and was never able to lift as much as I'm able to here. My posture got better, I got some muscles and I can even do some cardio now, without dying (not a huge fan of running).
And the cherry on top - the community here is great! I've never encountered such an amazing support. We cheer together, we laugh together, we sweat together,.. and we sometimes even hang out outside of the gym. It's a pleasure to come into such a positive environment and work out with these people.
I can thoroughly recommend CFSL. They're the best!

Did you know San Leandro Cross Fit does physical therapy? I talked to Ruth about trying to get in to do some traing, but let her know I was still suffering from a herniated disk in my lower back so it might be a while until I'm better as I was going on 6 weeks with excruciating pain and very limited mobility. Ruth said " let's get your back issue worked out first, then we'll get you started after your back is ready, we offer physical therapy here, so lets get you in and see what's going on" I thought ok let's give it a shot as I've been going to my chiropractor and have gotten no better. Ruth made me an appointment with LeAnne on the following Monday. LeAnne accessed my range of motion, how crooked I was standing, and then she did what seemed to be some simple stretches and minor easy pushing on my spine, then she rechecked my range and pain scale when I did certain movements. I will say the small amount she did to me physically did help a bit , felt a bit better now, but wasn't thinking it would do a whole lot and would have to go in for multiple sessions before I would get any big improvement, so I have an appointment for the following week, However, I do not think I need another appointment with her , as 2 days after seeing her I was able to install a Entry door to a customers home "pain free". I cannot believe after 6 weeks of misery and about to get a epidermal cortisone shot for $1,200.00 . LeAnne ended all my suffering with one session! Amazed is a understatement, now I've been back to work installing doors for 3 days now pain free, now I can help my son practice soccer and also get back to going 160mph on my race bike .LeAnne is awesome, just wish I would've known about her sooner. Thank you so much LeAnne and Ruth you ladies Rock!!!
