I’ve worked out at this gym for 13 years. The ownership and coaches are great and very welcoming to athletes of all levels. You will find and build community here. Highly recommend!!!

Dropped in for a week while seeing family. Tons of classes are offered throughout the day. All the coaches were super helpful and very knowledgeable. They also have classes on Saturday and Sunday mornings, which is a bonus that most gyms don't offer.

Had a great time dropping in for a class at noon, Brett led a great class from start to finish. Loved the creative warmup and time taken to review movements + provide plenty of scaling options. I was in a class with a varied amount of experience nut everyone got a great workout, thanks again for letting me drop in, will be back around the next time I’m in town!

Showed up for a drop in and was taken through a comprehensive warmup. After the warm up the coach explained the workout and gave scaling options and encouraged the class to pick weights that were appropriate for their skill set. The workout was challenging and we had great coaching and encouragement from the staff. Got to catch up with some of the member and hear their journey of fitness. Overall a great experience and I would drop in again.

The gym was pretty good. Not fare to compare to my local gym, (Significantly better). They charged $80 dollars each for my wife and I for 5 days, seemed pretty high, then charged $50 for two additional days just for my wife. So 25 dollars a class. The owner came in on multiple occasions and had no interest in interacting with us, even though we have family that are members there. The coaches where great, Reno and Moe especially. Gym equipment is extremely used. Overall not a bad experience though. Great location and welcoming community.

The coaches don't do enough warm up. I rarely write reviews but I'm still dealing with the injury to my SI joint many years later from the coaching philosophy here. The class I got injured in started immediately with the coach having people race each other doing burpees and other exercises as fast as they could without any other kind of warmup. Jumping into a fast-paced workout like this with no warmup caused my SI joint to pop and get strained badly while doing burpees, an injury that still bothers me greatly many years later and inhibits many activities (I am in my 20's). Just would not recommend people go to a place with this coaching philosophy, and if you do, please be wiser than I was and make sure you properly warm up before going all out even if the coach encourages you to jump right in cold.

One of the crossfit OGs. Not far from the beach, half indoor/half outdoor, focusing on mobility before the work out. Very cool gym in the South Bay!

So I was looking for a fun awesome cross fit gym intown and came across this little gem.
It's a old car mechanic style garage that has been converted into a cross fit half inside half outside gym.
The other people were all welcoming and looked like they have quite the community between each other, I truly do think this is one of the most essential commonents of a gym.
I spoke to the owner and he was extremely welcoming and easy to approach, good gyms start with good owners.
Overlap the work out was good and the coaches helped guide me through it being that I'm still considered very new to the sport.
The first time is free and the first month is very affordable at a intro price of $45, I would also recommend this cross fit gym to beginners as they have another side of the gym dedicated to beginners called excellerator of which is also a great style of workout for experienced that targets HIIT and functional.

Long story short I was injured (on purpose) by "coach" Sean McCue at the Redondo Beach location. This happened about a year ago. Now I have chronic neck and shoulder pain. He had me do overhead kettlebell swings as fast as I could for 1 minute intervals. When I informed him it I couldn't do it, that it was too heavy for me; he seemed annoyed and responded "it's all momentum". According to receptionist there, the kettle bell I was using is 26 lbs! This was the "Accelerator" (beginners) class. I am 5'3" and 120 lbs. A good trainer would have let me kept/use the lighter kettlebell I was previously using (probably around 16 lbs); however, he demanded I put it back. Before this, I was getting a good workout. But if I knew I would get injured, I never would have joined. If you find yourself in this sitiation, simply walk out. Your health is more important than someone's ego.

One of the best CrossFit gyms I’ve been to. Usually when I see a CF gym that is loaded with very fit people, I get intimidated. But this place is unique. Here, people of all fitness levels work out in the same facility, and the vibe is a combination of competitiveness and community. Forrest keeps the rates very reasonable, especially for LA. Highly recommended.

CF South Bay is an awesome box to train at! I was visiting on vacation from Australia and they let me pay a once off monthly fee with unlimited training which was great value! They offer plenty of classes and an open gym all day! All the staff are super friendly and welcoming and the programming for the training they offer was awesome! I will definitely be returning here next time I come back!

CFSB is my second home! I have never been to a gym longer than 2 weeks in my life...until I found CFSB! I have now been an active member for over 1 1/2 years! This place is AMAZING. The incredibly knowledgeable coaches and wonderful familial environment this place oozes is awe-inspiring. I never thought I could feel this way about a "gym". Not only is everyone, coaches, staff, and members, so friendly, the focus on safety is incredible. They have even implemented a functional movement screening that gives a personal evaluation to every member so that all coaches are aware of each members potentially limiting mobility issues so that scaling can be tailored to each individual.

Since joining CFSB, I am in better shape in my thirties than I was in my twenties!
I can't say enough positive things about this place. CFSB is definitely the best CrossFit gym in the South Bay!

CrossFit SouthBay is an excellent place to go if you would like to improve your general health, and experience myriad realms of fitness/athleticism. The owner, Forrest, has done a tremendous job of putting together a wide array of equipment to use, from barbells and dumbbells to rowers and watt bikes to strongman equipment. There is no lack of resources for fitness.

The people who go to CFSB are mixed in ages and abilities. Two things are common among them though - they are fit (or working toward being fit!) and are genuinely friendly. Most every single person there, whether a newbie or seasoned veteran, is approachable. They take their workouts seriously, but are willing to extend a helping hand when not working themselves.

Programming-wise, CFSB has multiple levels for your present fitness level. They have OnRamp and Elements for beginners, or those who have not yet forayed much or are intimidated by Crossfit. These courses are excellent if you have any reservations about what Crossfit is and how it can be incorporated into your daily life.

The regular day classes include Level 1 and Level 2 prescriptions, with Level 1 provided for your more intermediate athlete, while Level 2 is geared toward the more progressed athlete. In addition, they also provide programming for the competitive athlete (of note here is that this is typically reserved for those who compete in the Crossfit competitions and really isn't for optimal health and fitness, which the coaches at CFSB actually do a tremendous job of emphasizing. Don't let your ego get ahead of your capabilities!).

In terms of the coaching, you have some excellent resources. Two that really stand out to me are Cody and Missy. Cody is one of the lead programmers, and has gone out of his way to not only get different Crossfit certifications but to in fact train regularly within specialist areas. For instance, he has gotten specific help from Crossfit Gymnastics own Dusty Hyland, and has sought out help to specifically train for the Olympic Lifts from specialist Sean Waxman. He also reads regularly and is constantly seeking to improve his knowledge base.

Missy is supremely qualified for prehab and rehab, as well as providing corrective exercise regimens. In addition to be Functional Movement Screen (FMS) qualified, she also has her Doctorate of Physical Therapy. She is an excellent resource for any pre-existing conditions and concerns you may have going into CFSB for the first time. Missy is also an excellent person to speak to if you're a competitive athlete in another sport, as she can point you in the proper direction of requirements for your given domain.

Crossfit SouthBay is an excellent choice if you're looking to become a generalist in athletics, like constant change in your exercise regimen and want to be part of a healthy social circle.
