It's been years since I've come here but my what a MAJOR OVERHAUL IMPROVEMENT!!!! Best machines I've seen in a min and they have more than what all 24 hrs have combined in their 1 spot.
Only downfall is that it looks like the bathrooms didn't get the same renovation. They look like what my previous review was - old, dirty and grungy feeling. Definitely glad to see they've made MAJOR steps!

*** Update --- Bathrooms still not renovated and look like a dump!! Paper towels machines were out and none of the 3 staff members were doing anything but standing at the desk.

I remember back in 2011 that crunch open here in el cajon. I signed up in 2015 until 2016 the gym has clean showers smells like lemons the equipment was in good condition. I cancel my membership to save money to go to SDSU. And now in 2025 the quality has gotten really low with the showers smelling like a rotten corpse. The gear they used havent change or repaired.

I was interested in getting a membership here again until I read some reviews you have to write, not type, a written certified letter and send to them. making hard for people who are trying to cancel their membership. I remember how easy it was to ask the employees at the front desk to easily cancel membership. And now its really an open public legal money laundering scheme.

Been coming here with my family since August 2025 and so far it’s been great. Staff is friendly and always seem happy to take feedback. When I first joined there was a bit of a set back with the pool but other than that can’t complain. It’s got everything you need, and although it does get a bit crowded at times (evenings typically), there is still enough equipment to go around. I live about an hour away in Jacumba and it’s definitely worth the drive.

“Claims” it has a military discount. I went and verify that I was a veteran and it took me to a crunch website that made me fill out the registration verification again five different times before it took me to the proper page for the discount. The discount is a joke. It says no annual sign-up fee but after verifying my Veterans status six times in total it still said it was gonna charge me $49 for the yearly fees. A complete bummer, l live 500 feet from a crunch gym so that would have been ideal.

Crunch Fitness in El Cajon has been an excellent experience to base my workouts. I switched gyms when I moved to the area, and their motto of No Judgments has not disappointed. There are people of all levels and goals here, with none of the "in-crowd" mentality I've experienced in the past. The staff and the members have been extremely inclusive and friendly, and willing to help with any questions I've had. They've also updated the entire gym and its equipment. All of the machines are in working order and in greater number, so it's not difficult to rotate through your whole workout. Well worth the membership.

I have been coming to crunch for about 7 months now I had no problem except for today I had recently cut my very long hair to a buzz cut and when I was trying to go in the staff members up front didn’t let me in I explained that I had recently got cut my hair short but they didn’t believe me and they even gave me a attitude this is unacceptable and i will be canceling my membership.

Honestly, I really like this gym. The people who work here are super nice and always make you feel welcome. You can tell they actually care and enjoy what they do, which creates a really positive vibe when you walk in.

The gym has everything you need — good machines, free weights, cardio stuff — and it’s always clean and organized. I never have to wait too long for equipment, and the overall atmosphere is just really chill and motivating.

**Edit: Came back in to give the gym another shot because I genuinely love it here and have never felt so comfortable so quick before in a gym. Both managers happened to be at the front desk that day and they were both very sweet and apologized and that they sat down with the team to review expectations which I really appreciated. My goal was not to make them look bad but to bring awareness that everyone should feel absolutely comfortable walking into ANY gym as it can already be intimidating walking into a new gym. The goal is to always feel good walking into and out and they definitely exceeded my expectations this past week following our conversation. Thank you Mat!!

linitially came to this gym using ClassPass and decided I loved how calm it was here compared to when I use to go to EOS on Sports Arena seeing as Ive had a couple uncomfortable experiences there on top of how busy it always is. I was REALLY leaning towards getting a membership with this location seeing as I finally cancelled my membership with EOS but today definitely made me question my decision. I walked in around 12:50-1:00pm, when I approached the girl at the front desk she was already having a conversation with another member so l waited until she was done before she looked over at me as if I interrupted her conversation and said "did you need something" and was not the least interested in helping me. I started to try to explain to her that the last time I came in the bald gentleman told me after I signed in for my ClassPass told me if I wanted to come back to get more of a feel for the gym that I could do a 3-day trial. She was very dismissive and barely let me speak. She then told me she is not going to do the 3-day pass, but she can do the one day and said "you're good" and waved me off. I decided to just walk away because I was fine with her saying no seeing as someone else told me something different but her demeanor was terrible and uninviting. I was really hoping that this would be my new go to gym to feel comfortable.

My partner and I were in the area while on travel from the east coast. I have a membership with Crunch and was happy to know there was one I could visit and bring my partner with me. There was a little confusion on benefits because I only have the basic membership, but Matt and Marvin who were working at this location, spent the time to discuss the details with me and ultimately made it work for us! The gym was organized and clean and had plenty of equipment open. Everyone was friendly and the atmosphere was positive. I highly recommend this location to anyone looking for a nice gym with plenty of options and friendly staff.

After a long search of bouncing around between different gyms, I thought about giving CrunchFitness on Jamacha Rd. a chance. The people at the front desk are EXTREMELY nice. They always greet me with the biggest smile and even make conversation with me when I check in. They are everything I would expect for a gym trainer to be.

Today, my complaint is with a blonde woman who looks to be about 50-60 years old. I was cooling off after an intense workout as I usually do in this area (second floor on the turf near the monkey bars), when this woman stomped towards me at 5:05 PM, setting up signs that said “FUNCITONAL HIIT CLASS starting at 5:30 PM,” and told me “You are going to have to leave because I need to set up for a class.” But it gets worse! As I was doing push-ups, she purposely dropped a 40 lb. weight right next to my head. This could’ve ended BAD for the both of us.

In my opinion there are better ways to go about this. She could’ve asked “Hey! I’m about to teach a class. If you would like to join, please help set up, or let me set up and you can join us after.” There was ZERO empathy with this woman.

Because of this experience, I am considering no longer attending this gym. I feel judged, belittled, patronized, TARGETED, and overall disappointed in this woman’s behavior.

If you are thinking about joining this particular class (MONDAY MAY 19 5:30 PM) please reconsider.

I signed up for Crunch Fitness and didn’t end up using my membership. I figured if I stopped going, that was the end of it. No emails, no notices, no warning until one day, I get a call saying I’ve been sent to collections for unpaid dues. No letter. No invoice. Just straight to threatening my credit. Apparently, just not using the gym doesn’t cancel your membership (fair enough), but they also don’t make it easy to cancel and they keep charging quietly until it’s too late. Then boom, collection agency. Like some kind of shady credit trap disguised as a gym. I’m writing this so others don’t get caught in the same situation. If you’re thinking about joining Crunch, read every line of the fine print and be prepared to cancel in writing, jump through hoops, and still fight to not get hit with surprise bills. There are better gyms out there that treat people like humans, not monthly payment machines.

Decided to do the gym thing and went into Crunch for a trial day and ended up signing up after my time there. I was greeted and assisted by Delany and was beyond impressed with her level of customer service and attentiveness. She was also very friendly and warm which I greatly appreciated. Amazing facility, top equipment and great service with friendly staff and super clean and comfortable gym. The facility has two outdoor swimming pools and a hot tub that anyone can use, regardless of gender, While the separate male and female locker rooms each have sauna for individual use. I love ending my workout in the relax and recover room where there is a hydro massage chair and massage bed.

I’m truly impressed with this gym. Although my base location is in Bonita, I spend 95% of my workout time here. I’ve been a member since before the recent remodel, and while it was already a solid gym, the renovations have completely transformed the atmosphere for the better. The staff is fantastic, the new equipment is top-notch, and the overall environment is highly motivating. This gym has set a new standard for my workouts.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. Had to go on deployment so I went in to cancel my membership. Came back and check my bank account after moving to find out I was still getting charged. Called to cancel membership and was told that they would and a manager would get ahold of me for the charges. Manager never got ahold of me. Month goes by and got charged again. Called again and was told they couldn’t cancel over the phone and was given the managers email. Emailed manager, and they told me that since I have no email or receipt of cancellation they can’t reimburse me. Why would I keep a receipt for 7 months and how/why would I email if I was told it was canceled and was given no email. They told me they could give me “complementary gym time”. I replied explaining this and my frustration and never got a response back. Will never use another crunch gym ever again nor recommend to anyone.

I just switched here from Chuze because it's closer to me and there's another location near my work. I am a little disappointed with the overall condition of the gym. On a positive note the machines are nice and new. My gripes are there aren't any water bottle refill stations in the entire gym, just drinking fountains. The bathrooms and sauna looks to be untouched since the 90's. Many of the lockers are broken and they all require you bring your own lock rather than have electronic keypad locks. The ventilation upstairs is severely lacking. It feels like the AC up there doesn't work and there's only a few fans in the corners. The gym just had an overall grubby feeling to it. I've hardly ever seen any of the employees cleaning, wiping down, or just doing a walkthrough unless they are touring a new member. There will be 3 or 4 employees just posted up at the front desk and one elderly man going around cleaning. At chuze it seemed all the employees were constantly walking around cleaning, vacuuming, and wiping down equipment. I hope some of this stuff improves and that the owners decide to renovate the bathroom/lockers/and sauna. It could be a nice place.

My friends and I always have a pleasant time walking into this gym. We used to go to the old Crunch and this one does not even compare in how much better it is.
Machines work great, and we are always able to get a fantastic workout in.

If I could give no stars, I would. I had a terrible experience yesterday with Chelsey at the front desk when I was trying to sign up. She was incredibly rude and gave me a lot of attitude for no reason. Instead of helping me through the process, she made it more difficult and unpleasant. Her unprofessional behavior left a really bad impression, and it's disappointing to see such poor customer service. I hope management takes this seriously and addresses the issue to improve the overall experience for future customers.

The gym looks brand new all the equipment inside is brand new I haven't been to the gym in 20+years I started here may 1st. I got a personal trainer ( IAN) because I didn't want to hurt my self useing bad forum or Technique. This also helped to make sure I was useing everything correctly
My trainer IAN is amazing I have never felt better going to the gym he has halped me turned my life around with his skills and compassion to help me get back into shape. I highly recommend seeing him and if your just starting to get into the gym it's almost a must to have a trainer I would highly recommend IAN as a trainer. It's worth getting a trainer

Joined this gym in December even after reading lots of negative reviews, but also some that suggested new management had taken over and was working to spruce the place up. Well, it's now almost May and I've seen very little change. Most notably, still no spa nor staff with any idea when it will be back. If I'm not mistaken, the spa is part of the pool access benefit afforded to those who pay for the "peak results" membership, yet it's not accessible. What gives on the monthly dues then?

Cushions on machines are torn up and don't get replaced, lockers are missing doors, blank spaces on walls where mirrors or signage used to be (you can tell my the huge marks of adhesive residue), and the hand sanitizer dispensers around the gym are always empty. The main reason I joined this particular gym is that it is the closest gym with a pool to my house. Albeti, the lap clock hasn't worked since I joined.

Here's hoping they get with the renovations soon. For the price, It's almost worth going a bit more out of the way to a place that takes more pride and care.

This is a place that may have saved my life.everyone starting from chelsea whom helped me with the opening format and pricing to David trainer Gage trainer / manager to Mat manager and the one whom gave me a great deal, were nice warm people who cared alot about my health and wellness of my body and the mindset behind a strong body.they have all the weights you need heavy bags cycling tread mills swimming pools lockers rooms.2 floors with open veiw of downstairs.everyone made me feel welcome.just what i needed .if you dobt check this place out your missing out.

Always greeted with a smile, extremely friendly service, treated like family. Everything always works. The gym is always clean. The Hydro massage feels amazing. They make it so nice to come there and work out, great variety of music playing throght the week and weekend. Pool is open and ready for laps. Good size location for it not to get too crowded. Temperature is kept at a tolerable or adjustable by staff place to keep you going but let you sweat and get the best workout possible. Many cardio machines plenty of weights, and lots of classes to choose from.

canceled my membership and this place just kept charging me. $300 later they tell me they would not refund me cause there is no records of cancellation. Manager dodged phone calls and emails from ABC Fitness for a week. Funny enough, a quick google search and i find out that i am not the only one facing this issue, so many complaints on reddit about unauthorized charges from crunch. just imagine how many don't realize that are still being charged for a canceled membership.

I love walking into crunch! The staff will always greet you. They are friendly, helpful, positive and welcoming. It's a great way to start my workout! The gym is clean. They've reopened the pool. I don't swim. I like their classes. They have different ones for all levels. There's tons of equipment that I don't use but other people seem to like it. Having been a member for years, I believe Matt, the current GM, is the best they've ever had!

Dan and Lily best customer services they provide. I am appreciate to there services and I also will talk to the manager about the services the do for keeping the gym clean and help anyone right away about what they need. they do deserve 5 starts. Great gym! Has a big pool! only downsize is its very propular i try to go on low times. Use the crunch app to see how busy it is. If you want a more low key crunch the one in parkway plaza is smaller and less crowdey but has less amenities ( no pool ect ) also love that I DON'T NEED A MASK to work out HUGE plus 👍👍👍

Never go to this gym, stuff is NOT professional, I came to the gym in the slippers because I am doing arms and chest today, and this guy and woman said that I have to train in the shoes, they even could not find this rule, this is why they just said, “we don’t like your face and you can not train in your slippers or we call police” . And it’s not only one reason that this gym is the worst in sd, their pool is always closed and equipment is broken or old, floor is dirty.
