This place has old equipment thats from 10 years ago and will not update their equipment. Most of the equipment are simply useless and dont serve and real function. THEY NEED TO UPDATE THEIR EQUIPMENT!!!! It's $120 bucks a month to use old equipment that no even cares about. The gym is poorly ran and the equipment is always broken and takes forever to fix. All their other gyms have updated equipment except for the newport location where members pay the most. MAKES NO SENSE!!!!!. if it wasnt 1.5 miles away from me, I WOULD NEVER GO TO THIS GYM!!!

We got displaced by the LA wildfires and headed down to Newport for a few weeks. Went to Curl to see if I could get a monthly membership and when it was time to pay Andrew said "don't worry about it - we got you." What a kind gesture!

I love this place!! This gym really is a great place for anybody. They have plenty of equipment and although it’s not the biggest gym in the area it’s not overcrowded so I can get a workout in without waiting for equipment to open up. Also the staff here are very helpful and keep this place CLEAN. If you are looking for a clean, friendly gym environment then Curl Fitness is the place to be.

I’m so glad they re opened! I love this gym! It’s the only gym around that has everything from weights, cardio, classes and spin classes. They were telling me about the remodel they have planned and it sounds awesome! Poor management. Be careful signing up because they will make you pay first and last month. But when you cancel they still make you pay one months notice aka your last month payment when you signed up make that make sense. They also have a dues lock in optional payment that literally is a scam. Membership rates go up maybe a dollar in a year's time if they ever go up at all. And you're gonna pay 50 bucks to have the rate locked? What a waste of money. But they sure make it sound convincing. If you ever have an issue that needs to be handled by a manager, good luck getting ahold of him. They don't have a manager. The district manager runs that gym as well as other locations. So he won't ever be available when you need to speak with a manager. All in all they are money hungry and do not care about you as a person. You're just a dollar sign to the manager there. I'd take my gym membership elsewhere for the poor management alone.

Family and I came to Newport Beach for a 10 day vacation and I just had to keep my workout routine going. Curl Fitness is an amazing gym! Everyone was very nice and friendly. The place is very clean and they have a variety of machines, free weights, and cardio machines. Big thanks to Tommy at the front desk for helping me out and answering all of my questions. I’ve been here since they opened a few months ago and compared to other gyms, this is one of the most cleanest and well equipped gym. The employees are very helpful if you are new and need some guidance. And if you need more of a one on one focused session I definitely recommend Edward I have been with him for 9 months and he has taught me so much and helped me improve on my gym journey!

Please note: I only went to this gym on one occasion so my review might not be indicative of what's normal. You should give more weight to the reviews of people who attended regularly over a long period of time. I wanted to love it but in the end, I didn't. I paid the $20 drop-in as a visitor from out of town. The staff working at the front desk were really awesome. Friendly, engaging, sincere and helpful. This gym had some really cool machines that I had never used before and it has really good lighting. I was disappointed by how small it was. By the biggest problem was the enormous amount of weight room douchbaggery I've ever seen. Imagine all the worst weight room etiquette you've ever seen, I experienced all of it in an hour. I know as a business no one wants to police people, but at a gym you kinda have to. I had to wait so long to get to the machines I needed because groups of guys were standing around them talking forever pretending to finish their sets. They leave towels on machines as a way to save them when they aren't around. Many machines were left with multiple 45lb plates on them. There were people doing dumbbell stuff right up in front of the racks so you couldn't get what you needed. I spent most of time waiting to get what I needed and hovering around machines.

Hands down this is the best gym I've been to! They have a wide range of free weights and machines and offer a variety of classes. When I signed up they even put me through their Inbody assessment which allowed me to see my weight, BMI and body fat percentage which was so eye opening and helpful!! This is one of the nicest gyms I’ve ever been too!! It’s in the Newport Lido area right on the harbor in Newport Beach. Over the past few years the new owners have completely remodeled the place! It’s a completely new gym. All brand new state of the art equipment, new TVs, sound system and locker room. They added a bunch of turf upstairs to switch up your workouts. The staff is so friendly they know all of us members and make a huge effort to make the experience top notch. I’ve never been to a gym like this it’s worth every penny

I travel a lot and am constant signing up for a weekly membership at a variety of gyms.

Sabrina is the most personable and helpful support I’ve received at a gym in Newport Beach.

I won’t mention the others, but wow if Curl isn’t heads and shoulders above the rest. It’s clean, the floor plan is easy to navigate, it’s got everything you need from well looked after machines to classes to an upstairs space overlooking the harbour.

Jury isn’t out yet. After previous owners scammed members out of monthly fees and prepaid trainer sessions before sheepishly and unsuspectedly closing their doors, gym reopens under new ownership (and keeps the same gym name to continue recurring monthly charges - even though I blocked “Curl Fitness” from auto charging my Visa - new company bills the credit card under "Curl Fitness *" -with an asterisk) Feels shady to me. I called my credit card again and the new gym letting them know I did not authorize the charge. They said they’d credit it. Husband went in to check out the supposedly remodeled gym but he said it looks the same - just told they would remodel in 2 mos. It was explained that new owners are a national chain however kept the name Curl to “keep it local and small” why not change the name? I’ll give it another shot - maybe, once their remodels actually happen. It’s a shame, Diana and Dione ran the gym into the ground once they took over from Jill. It was such a cool gym. Booooo! UPDATE: After a bit of time, the new owners have rectified all wrongfully posted charges and that was all it took to come back to Curl. I hear my trainers are back and even my fav, Spencer, is back! Maybe my old (yet new) Curl is back!!! I’ll be joining again, everything looks clean, well organized and back to normal! No remodels yet but I honestly feel Curl is great as is! Yay! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Not only does this gym have a variety of workout equipment such as cardio or lifting and many more, but they always offer a variety of classes. Whether you like Zumba or yoga they have it all. Curl Fitness is probably my favorite gym in my community. The facility is so clean and everything smells brand new! The staff at this location are very polite and help with any questions that you may have. Music is amazing and defiantly look forward to working out here every time. The trainers here are also very knowledgeable. They give the best advice.

Amazing gym!! Always smells fresh and everything is so clean. There are many classes with great instructors that will push and motivate you! Very spacious free weight and cardio section. Signed up again after finding out new management had taken over and I'm loving the changes. Major improvements have been made throughout the club including some brand new equipment, amazing staff and overall cleanliness of the gym. Prices are extremely fair for the beautiful location, high end equipment and amenities offered. I was paying twice as much for a far less at another local gym and so glad this place is back. Thanks everyone who helped get me started again!

This gym is insane, prime location right in the harbor.

I came across this gym a few months ago I signed up and I love it. The view of the beach is amazing! Everything is always clean and organized. They have variety of classes and they have showers. I would really recommend this gym!

I was a bit on the fence when I heard Curl was back in business but after going in and seeing what the new owners have done I am now sooo happy that Curl is back! I met the new staff today, Micah, and Andrew took such good care of my sister and I. They rewrote our memberships and honored everything! They answered all our questions and were just overall super helpful! The place looks great! Even smells good haha! Way cleaner, organized, better energy, the list goes on! If you were a member before with the previous owners I definitely recommend stopping by to see what the new owners have done with the place! They are nothing like the last ones! They also told me they will be remodeling very soon which I am super excited to see how it turns out! Good luck to the new owners and staff! I can tell you guys are going to really turn it around! 11/10 recommend 😄

I really enjoy working out at this gym! It’s clean organized and the staff is really friendly. The view is amazing from the upstairs cardio room. They offer a variety of classes from all stages of fitness so if you’re looking for that edge in your workouts this is the place to go!

I'm super glad this gym is open once again. It's under new ownership and they've really sparked up the place nicely. The views are amazing and it's a very soothing homey atmosphere to train in. You can cool off after your training session and enjoy the views of the harbor and the ocean air. The staff is super friendly and they offer various types of equipment for all types of exercises. No matter what level of fitness you are at you will definitely find comfort and motivation training here.

Walked in to do the 3 day "free" trail. According to the website its "no obligations". What they failed to mentioned was that you need to be a local resident and have a bill or lease locally. Lady didn't even offer to let me workout just the one day. I drove all the way here for her just to say "Sorry ( then quickly looked over me and proceeded to start talking to someone else)". I wont be coming back here or recommending it. You win people over by providing great customer service, not turning them away when it doesn't appear that they will become a member. Don't judge a book by its cover.

This is a very clean gym. I’ve been coming here for 2 years and the people, fitness equipment and location are awesome. It’s rifht across from the bay with a bay view.

The plans are a little pricey but It definitely is a private gym. Go here if you want some privacy and want to avoid the crowds at 24 hour fitness.

Curl fitness is the Balboa Peninsula area's most ideal gym. I've been a member here for about a year and a half now, and I can easily say this place has totally transformed my life.

The location is super convenient with ample free onsite parking at the Lido garage (they validate for members) and easy bike access for Peninsula residents. The upstairs cardio machines have a beautiful harbor view, making it a little easier to trudge through an half-hour on an elliptical. Plus the area surrounding the gym is undergoing some major renovations which should be done soon and will make the location even more inviting.

Curl's greatest asset however is its staff. From the front desk, to the owners, and all the trainers, this gym is run by an awesome team. Starting on my first day, every single employee made me feel incredibly welcome and comfortable. I definitely wasn't a typical "gym person" (whatever that means) before I joined Curl, but now I can't imagine NOT going to the gym regularly. The Curl staff have been a big part of that being so authentically encouraging and helpful. Within a couple weeks of going here, they all knew me by my first name, and I now consider the Curl team to be my friends.

The Curl trainers are also excellent. All of them seem very knowledgable and work with dedicated professionalism. I really encourage anyone joining this gym to look into training in at least some capacity here. I've been working with Jeff, who's one of Curl's longtime trainers, and he's done so much for me. I will be forever grateful to him. He's basically rehabbed me to complete health following a 2012 back injury (T12 compression fracture) that had me sidelined for over a year. Jeff, like the other Curl trainers, knows his stuff and has specialized certifications/education that make these guys top of the line trainers. They're also really fun and friendly, which has been huge for me and has kept me coming back for more.

Curl has plenty of equipment spread out over two floors of workout space. The gym is a perfect size. You will never have to wait to get onto a machine, and it never feels crowded (but definitely doesn't have that abandoned failing-gym vibe either).

If you're looking for a gym in Newport, you've got to give Curl a shot. Joining was among the best things that's ever happened to me. Go for it!

Great local gym. Becky the owner is always there to greet you with a smile. Machines are new and high quality. Lockerroom is clean. Gym is clean, not a sweaty grease pit(like 24 hour).

tons of cardio machines upstairs and a nice juice bar.

I would recommend this gym for sure.
