I did a lot of personal training sessions with Coach Matt a few years ago. He was mediocre as a teacher. I later realized he failed to catch an obvious mistake in my form — which eventually caused me a back injury after years of training incorrectly. The facility and equipment were old. Their price was cheaper than other gyms in the area. I guess you get what you pay for.

I am 66 and have been going to Davis S&C’s senior class for over two years. I not only feel stronger than I did before starting the class, I feel stronger than I did in my 50s. The improvement in my balance is also huge, which matters especially after being diagnosed with osteoporosis. The coach/trainer, Lydia, clearly describes and demonstrates each activity and observes and gently corrects any flaws in our form. She is aware of each person’s weak areas and provides substitute activities to ensure that no one hurts themselves. This class, the circuits set by the owner of the gym, and Lydia’s coaching both challenge and motivate me. I am very lucky to have found it.

I am so thankful to have found Davis Strength & Conditioning! I have been attending the group workout classes since May 2025 and I am bummed I didn’t start earlier. It is truly a STRENGTH & conditioning class. We work with the barbell almost every class and my knowledge & confidence of movements has skyrocketed. I am hitting PRs that seemed completely out of reach when I first started.

Words cannot describe how motivating, knowledgeable, patient, supportive, down-to-earth, and friendly coaches, Lydia , Matt & Yijie are. Despite being in a group workout class, the classes are small enough that it’s basically 1 on 1 coaching. You’ll never have to worry that you’re doing a move incorrectly or how to modify a move if you’re injured.

I recommend trying that first free class to anyone who is even slightly considering joining. I greatly appreciate that there are many women who go to Davis S&C, so I don’t feel out of place. The community is super supportive and encouraging.

This is the one private gym that I feel is truly a strength gym and no class feels like it’s repetitive. Davis S&C is worth every penny! I cannot recommend this gym enough!!!

Great facility, clean and well-maintained with respectful and friendly gym goers. Staff is excellent too. I’ve been getting personal training with Coach Matt for the past two, nearly three years and have been able to hit my goals and then some. Even though I’ve moved away from Davis now I still get online coaching and programming from Coach Matt; he’s just that good.

I joined the senior class only 4 month (since May 2025), my physical health has significant improved through increased strength, balance and flexibility. Big thanks to our coach Lydia for always wearing a big smile, words of encouragement, and for rotating and focusing on the target muscle for each workout which effectively gain better results.

This gym is really a hidden gem! I enjoyed the strength and conditioning classes a lot. High energy vibes, well-thought-out space, great equipment + amazing training! This is an all-around amazing spot to dive into, commit, or continue on your athletic journey...whatever stage you might be at.

I have really appreciated both the quality, detail-oriented, and inclusive nature of the group strength training classes. I've also felt super comfortable during open gym despite which has been awesome.

But what I have appreciated the most is the challenging nature of each class + paired with positive psychological motivation! It's just such a great mix for personal growth. Strongly recommend taking the time to stop by to check out this space and making sure to talk to the founders + trainers, Drew and Yijie, about your goals!

Been working out here for a while and its been great! The owners are friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help. I haven't taken part, but they have some great classes for all skill levels. There's also lots of space/equipment inside and out for people to do their own thing and social distance. Whether you're an advanced lifter or just starting out, this is a great place to get a good workout!

I trained here while I was staying in Davis for a month, and it was a great experience! I'm an olympic weightlifter and found the space to be good to lift in, the coaches to be knowledgeable, and the members to be friendly. I definitely recommend it if you're a weightlifter in Davis!

I highly recommend checking this gym out and cannot stress how awesome Drew and Yijie are. The workouts they program for the classes are challenging, yet rewarding. If you're having difficulty with certain aspects of the workout (like me), they will accommodate you and find something for you to do, allowing you to learn the basics and build your foundation. What mainly keeps me coming back is the environment and community at this gym. I like the smaller setting and everyone that I have encountered, both the trainers and the other members, have been incredibly friendly and encouraging.

Before coming here, I never really exercised on a consistent basis. I always felt intimidated going to the gym at my university due to my social anxiety. When I withdrew from college due to depression caused by my anxiety, I was desperate for constructive ways to help deal with my mental health. My family and my therapist encouraged me to try exercising and through family friends, I found out that a new gym was opening in town. I reached out to Yijie and Drew and they accommodated me by working with me individually, as I was too self-conscious to join the classes. They taught me basic exercises, allowing me to improve my strength and coordination. Eventually, I felt confident enough to join the classes and have been a member ever since. My strength has definitely improved by coming here and so has my self-esteem. I can't help but feel a little bit proud about going from back squatting with just the bar at the beginning to squatting 365 lbs now. I will always be grateful towards Drew and Yijie for helping me out at my lowest point and I can't imagine working out anywhere else. tl;dr: this place is awesome!

My husband and I have been meeting with Drew three times a week for three years! We started when we were 70 years old. I feel that I am in the best shape I have been in a long time. If you are looking for a wonderful, friendly, persuasive, very knowledgeable about what you need to improve your health personal trainer (no matter how old you are), then Drew is the best one for you.

So I'm not one of those people who can go into a gym and excel by myself because a) I don't have the detailed knowledge required to formulate intelligent workouts and b) I work much better when I have someone telling me what to do and others around me doing the same thing and embarrassing me (by proximity) into action.

I checked out a number of gyms when I arrived in Davis in 2014, even had some memberships, before finally settling on Davis Strength and Conditioning. Firstly, the workouts are crafted by two gents who are incredibly well versed in body mechanics and exercise science - they're nerds about it. The classes they put together are smart and each exercise serves a purpose.

Secondly, Yijie and Drew are sticklers for form. They watch your form like a hawk to ensure you don't get injured and you're getting the best possible results. They also get to know you as an athlete, when you need to drop the bar and when you can squeeze in another rep. They have different coaching approaches, but they're equally effective at training others.

Finally, the workouts are fun and commaraderie in the group classes is great. The classes seem to attract legitimately excellent people who are humble, hard working, genuine and who actually know your name. I've really come to enjoy my classmates over the years as we get stronger, fitter and healthier.

The results. I came from a boot camp background previously (albeit with 12 months away from fitness before moving to Davis) so I've always had a reasonable cardio base. My cardio has continued to improve, but it's my strength that has really improved. My major power lifts have all improved at least 50% and I've learned a range of other lifts like the snatch and the clean & jerk. As aforementioned, Drew and Yijie are sticklers for form so I've also incurred no injuries. I never thought I'd enjoy lifting weights, but it's almost become an addiction. My waist has stayed the same size while my legs are thicker (no skinny jeans for me), while in the upper body my t-shirt has gone from a small to a definite medium. Functionally, I can do a Tough Mudder, a Spartan Race or a triathlon on a whim and I don't suffer from aches and pains.

Now that I'm leaving Davis, I'm really going to miss Davis Strength and Conditioning, I'll miss the 10 x 10s, the bear crawls, the puns, Pull Up Club, the 2k time trial, and hitting a PB with all my friends around. Cheers guys, I'll miss you - thanks for making me better.

I am a senior citizen with a new hip replacement. I am working one on one with Yijie. The improvement in my strength, stamina and balance is easy to see even though it's been just a few weeks. My advice to anyone who is thinking of working out - trust Drew and Yijie to develop a plan for you. Don't be afraid that there are not many machines. They make your body the workout machine. Both trainers know how to motivate you and get you to do things that you never believed you could.
They also offer classes, one during the lunch hour. It's challenging and fun.

I have been into athletics and lifting weights for a long time. Usually in a solitary sport and lifting by myself. The grind of that can be tough, and this gym was a huge breath of fresh air for me. I've really enjoyed the classes they provide. They focus on true long-term improvement and fitness, combined with a daily variety of exercises and proper technique training really helped. They found my weak points quickly and helped me strengthen them. The ability for the owners to adjust the set plan for my specific needs was a blessing, and now I'm able to do much more than before. It is my favorite part of the day.

I have been a member of this gym for 2.5 years. Prior to this gym I have tried most of the gyms in Davis (from commercial gyms, pay per class gyms, Kaia, kickboxing, yoga, etc). This gym is the best because of its great coaches and progressive nature of their workouts. Imore than two years later I still feel challenged and excited to go to the gym. No two workouts are the same and the people are great too! Before Davis strength and conditioning I had little knowledge of how to properly use a barbell but bc of their great coaching I feel proficient and strong. I have seen coach drew and Yijie work with all levels of athletes (from beginners to elite athletes) and helped them move towards achieving their goals. It is clear that they love what they do and are extremely knowledgeable. the monthly costs are also the best in town with its options to attend classes and open gym! They also have the best gym dog in town.

Love this gym! I’ve been personal training with Yijie Ge for about 6 months and am extremely impressed. I’ve had two other trainers in the past and although everyone’s training is different i believe Yijie is by far the best. I’ve not only physically and mentally improved but I’ve also found my love for working out again! HIGHLY recommend this gym for anyone wanting a fun and encouraging environment!

I love Davis Strength and Conditioning. I have been going there for about 3-4 years now and Yijie and Drew are great! They cater to whatever you specifically want/need to work on and help you reach your goals. Their noon time workouts are great for the lunch hour. All you have to do is show up and the workout in on the board. Its a mix of crossfit and bootcamp and whether you're a workout fanatic or just getting started, you can go at your own pace.
Give DSC a try - you won't be disappointed!

Best gym in Davis!!! I was struggling to find a good routine at the school gym and other gyms around town; they were always too crowded, classes would fill up, or I would feel uncomfortable not knowing if I was doing the exercises correctly/feeling so out of shape. That all changed when I walked into Davis Strength and Conditioning. Yijie and Drew were so friendly and welcoming and made me feel comfortable right away. The classes they offer and the community they've built fosters a positive and constructive workout environment. The class times worked perfectly with my schedule and I was able to achieve my goals going to both their weight lifting and circuit training classes. Having a bad back, I always knew I was in good hands with the trainers constantly focusing on good form and giving me exercises to prevent injury. They also helped me out with a diet plan that I still refer to! 10/10 would recommend going to Davis Strength and Conditioning!

This gym and the trainers really have it all. If you need a class with weights and strengthening, they have it. If you want a lower impact class, they have that too. They even offer personal/one on one training sessions, if you don't want to be a part of a group. Yijie and Drew are supportive and helpful! And having the gym mascot, Rosie the dog there to greet you at the door is the best part!

Short story: I first came here for the first time during the summer after seventh grade on orders from my parents. Doubtful at first, I arrived to meet Drew, who was running a class for the adolescence. Drew, alongside Yijie, are some of the best trainers around. The are super funny, kind, and very patient. Over the course of the 4 1/2 years, I have become very fit and strong, being able to dominate in certain aspects of my sport. Its been great having trainers like them helping me improve so much. Alongside that, the community that has formed under DSC is incredible. Most people know each other in that gym and it truly is awesome. 10/10!!!!

Great gym. Conveniently away from Central Davis. The trainers and classes, which emphasize high intensity group sessions, are top notch. I’ve always been into exercise but focused mostly on running. I joined with the intent of building overall strength in group settings and love it. Drew and the others provide many levels of instruction, and i never feel out of place or that I’m being asked to push too far; in fact they even have instruction for kids.
They know how to focus on form and execution and are super-cognizant if ability and injury risk, which is a always a concern when doing these types of workouts. All the members come prepared to work and sporting smiles and good attitudes.

If you’re looking for a CrossFit type gym minus the bro/basic appeal, this is it.

Couldn't have been more happy with this place. After working long hours, this place was the best way to blow off some steam. Drew and Yijie are incredibly knowlegable and genuine dudes. Awesome for beginner lifters/exercise enthusiasts all the way up to professional powerlifters.
