I’ve been going to this gym for most of this year. That work plus their nutrition plans and guidance, have helped me lose over 15 lbs of body fat, while gaining muscle.

I can't say enough good things about this place. I have been a member for a few months and it's changed my life in so many ways. Going into this journey, I was high body fat, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and daily stomach problems that the Dr said were going to require pills for the rest of my life to address. Just overall not feeling great about myself and my health.

Four months in, religiously following the program, I've lost significant amount of fat and replaced it with muscle, and for the first time in ten years I'm in the teens% body fat. Blood pressure and cholesterol totally under control, and I haven't had a stomach issue one single time in three months. I keep very close tabs on my health markers via blood testing and wearable devices and my markers have all transitioned to performance athlete levels. All in four months.

It is a lot of work. It requires dedication. But the incredible team at DBB is personally invested in your success whether it's giving you 1:1 coaching, or personalized nutrition training, they give you every tool you need to be successful. They have created an amazing, supportive, diverse community of people who are all together cheering each other on. It's a group I'm proud to be a part of and could not recommend more.

Great Gym, expert staff, supportive culture. It's worth the drive for body recomposition and or rehabilitation. Chiropractic services available on site.

Diablo Barbell saved my life.
I had spent the last 2 years trying to alleviate my back pain and severe sciatica. I have 2 herniated discs between L3-L5. Spinal injections, tens machines, chiro, massage, stretch labs, physical therapy, acupuncture, decompression and none of it helped in the long run. I would work 10-12 hours a day (sitting) and after work I would take Advil, apply ice, throw myself down on the couch and wait for the pain to subside and pray the pain wouldn’t keep me up when I went to bed. I could not walk longer than 10 mins without pain which led to my not being able to participate in events with my family. I had accepted my new way of life. November 2023 I saw the ad below about back pain. People in pain will reach for whatever might help and when I saw the ad, I thought “what the heck - it can’t hurt.” I requested an assessment and had a call set up pretty quickly. I spoke to Coach Ted O’Neill - he gave me a bit of history about his gym and his experience, then we talked about my back. Coach O’Neill said he felt he could help me - so I signed up and 24 hours later I was at Diablo Barbell.
Coach set up me up with a series of rehabilitation movements, most notably the Reverse Hyper. (It's my favorite machine.) Over the next month I progressed in various movements key to strengthening my back. Some days were harder than others and I worried deeply about
hurting myself. I had huge doubts that this rehab was the best for me but in December 2023 I went on vacation and was able to walk for hours! When I returned from vacation, Coach said I was ready to join the conditioning part of the program. We pushed prowlers, carried really heavy slam balls, wielded ropes, did kettlebell work and more, generally outside. After conditioning, we’d go inside to continue working on movements like back squats, bench press, and deadlifts. Every week that went by I got stronger. Fast forward 1 year, I have a 225# deadlift and I know I have more in my tank - I never, ever thought I would lift again much less at 62 years of age.
A couple of things I didn’t mention above is the day I first spoke to Coach O’Neill, I had applied for a disabled placard and I was pricing scooters so I could attend events with my family. And the month before meeting Coach O’Neill, I had met with my doctor and we were making plans for me to have surgery in September 2024. Needless to say, I don’t need surgery probably never did. No disabled placard needed and never bought the scooter. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Diablo Barbell literally saved my life.

Let me talk about my experience at Diablo Barbell…
I was member for one month in August of 2024. Ted is the owner of the gym, and the gym is well equipped with specialty strength equipment that I have not seen in any other gyms I’ve attended (Reverse Hyper machine, Viking Press, Alternating Press/Row Hammer Strength, etc.)

The membership cost is astronomically expensive - $1,100 for the first month, and $600 for every month after was the price advertised to me. In the first couple weeks, I felt I got personalized instruction, but after the initial weeks I received what seemed to be the exact same attention (perhaps marginally more attention because I was annoying with the amount of questions I would ask) as the other 5-7 gym members in my class.

From my experience Ted’s primary talking point is the “addition by subtraction” methodology where you must cut out the “chemical disruptors” in your life in order to achieve success in not only fitness but other aspects of your life. He really pushes this point hard and if you are not finding the success you want from the gym, he will ask if you have taken out ALL of the disruptors.
These disruptors include:
Nicotine, Marijuana, Alcohol, OTC drugs, Prescription drugs, watching shows and movies, caffeine, sugar, and using social media.

Of course once a person cuts all of these disruptors out of their life, it is going to induce huge benefits to their productivity, mental health, etc., but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand this.

During the month I was at this gym, I did put approximately 30 pounds on my bench, 20 pounds on my squat, and not really any weight on my deadlift (because we didn’t train the deadlift much)

I followed all of the instructions and protocol put forward by Ted, but at the end of the month, during a benching session that was being supervised by Ted, I cranked out 4 reps, and on the 5th rep, I tore my pec muscle. I was told my technique was perfect, but sometimes pec tears just happen. Ted was convinced it was not too major of a tear because there was only moderate bruising showing up around my bicep in the following few days. During the days following the incident, Ted would check in with me and ask me how my pec was doing, which I felt was caring. However about a week after the pec tear, I alerted Ted that I would be cancelling my membership and his words still ring in my head today – “This [my pec injury] is not that big of deal – if you’re going to let this setback stop you, you’re not going to succeed man”. After he realized I would not be a paying customer anymore, all of the care seemingly vanished. I asked if he had any advice for me or any other exercises to rehab my pec, and he gave me the cold shoulder, just “keep it mobile”. I have not received any questions regarding my recovery since.

Fast forward a few weeks later, after talking to a few specialists and receiving an MRI, it turns out this is not a minor or moderate pec injury, I needed to get complete reconstructive pec surgery as I completely tore both sternal and clavicular attachment points of my pec, which has been an incredibly arduous setback. Although I learned a lot of valuable information during the month I was at the gym, I think considering the full experience I’ve had, and the absolutely astronomical price, I can’t give this place anything more than 1 star.

If you have money to burn and need a workout community, this might be the place for you.

TLDR; EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE, new / unique equipment, high quality equipment, not crowded at all, EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE, nice successful people as members, some strong people for their age, terrible personal experience with injury, owner left a sour taste in my mouth after injury, and Extremely expensive.

This gym is amazing. Their back class is so helpful and my one-on-one time with Dr. Andrea was exactly what I needed. I appreciate Ted and Andrea's approach to total mind and body health and am grateful for the opportunity to work with them.

I first came to Diablo Barbell because I couldn't walk without a cane. After being seen and evaluated by Dr Vitz she suggested I joined a rehab class at Diablo. It took 3 months to get off the cane and then 3 more to come off all the pain meds I was on. Im now starting a strength class and a food program. I will be the best version of myself. With the help of Coach Ted and Dr Vitz and the Diablo community everyone is so supportive.

Dr. Vitz is amazing. She is a talented practitioner that listens to you and SEES your body and figures out what routines, adjustments and exercises YOUR body needs. She recognises the individual needs of the athlete and comes up with a holistic approach to balance your fitness, including nutritional needs.
I’ve seen Dr. Vitz a few times for chiropractic and always left with an easier, expanded feeling in my body, tightness and contracting loosened or freed.
Most recently Dr. Vitz consulted with me online to hone my workout routines (my biceps were gaining asymmetrically and I felt additional soreness and vascularity on my weaker arm) and to assess my diet. She watched on cam and instructed me in various exercises to add to my routine. These exercises prepared my body for an adjustment! She instructed me where to place my hand on my arm, then guided me on how to move my arm. It blew me away! She gave me an adjustment through Zoom!
Diablo Barbell may be a "power lifting" facility, but Dr. Vitz and her staff can help any athlete. I'm not her only distance runner. Whether you've hit a snag, a plateau or just want to improve, Dr. V and staff are there for you.
Dr. Vitz is very talented. I can’t recommend her or Diablo Barbell highly enough. This is the training and care your body needs.

An absolutely awesome fitness and lifestyle experience. The coaches and ownership are absolutely incredible and helpful. I am generally intimidated by gyms and sometimes can feel insecure. This is the first place in the multiple states I have lived in, where I didn't feel that at all. Coaches and patrons on day 1 were extremely friendly and welcoming. I saw a tremendous amount of progress in my first two months. They also sit with you one on one to discuss what your goals are. From there your workouts and regiments are tailored to you. I would recommend Diablo to anyone at any fitness level. I was probably on the bottom half of that and continue to see great results. It's a wonderful community through and through!

I came her experiencing discomfort in my lower back due to work related injuries. I had lifted on and off for over ten years at many different gyms (24 Hour Fitness, Crunch, CrossFit, Fitness 19) and had decent progress in my fitness journey. It wasn’t until I started working with Ted, Andrea, Jenn, and Jeff that I started to make incredible gains. In a 6-8 week period I went from struggling to squat 225 lbs to getting a PR of 305 lbs. The best part was, I was learning to lift correctly, with proper form and doing it all PAIN FREE! I learned how to bench correctly and quickly started moving weight with ease that I had previously struggled with. They have a phenomenal program that uses powerlifting and brutal conditioning to get you in the best all-around shape possible. I am incredibly thankful for this place and they have definitely found a life-long member in me! If you’re interested come and see for yourself. You won’t regret it.

This is more than just a gym this is a community you join. I walked in broken from past injuries, child birth, and generally not taking care of myself. On the advice of a close friend I walked in and was greeted by Jenn. She listened to all my concerns, showed me the schedule and introduced me to Dr. Vitz to start me in the back rehab classes. Within a month and half Ted and Jenn started to ease me into their conditioning classes making exceptions for things that might aggravate my issues. Almost four months later I am a completely different person. I haven't had a back issue in months. I'm leaner and clear headed. I'm strong and confident. All along the way with the complete support of my trainers. When I'm feeling rundown and haggard from my busy schedule with two kids, work, and home life, they bring me back, center me and remind me how everyday I get better and closer to the new self I'm creating.

Do yourself a favor. Come in and see what you they can help you create for yourself and leave all your reservations at the door.

For Andrea and Ted, I realize you have to make a living and that's why we work but from what I observe it's so much more. It contributes to a higher good! A place where people can become their best selves. You guys know all of your clients, their strengths, their weaknesses, their ups and downs and you are on from the minute they walk in the door until the minute Ronnie finally leaves the gym. Your love for what you do and the people you do it for amazes me and frankly I have not experienced before. I look forward to developing myself as we go on this journey together 😊@levelheadeddoc @diablobarbell

I found Diablo Barbell when looking for people to lift with. The owner Ted's driving philosophy is to help anybody who walks in the door achieve self-mastery, through learning about themselves in the weight room. Really, it's an amazing place. Everybody gets individual attention, with a path set to achieve individual goals.

Suffice it to say, this gym is not a typical gym. It's really a place to learn how to get healthy and fit, both physically and mentally. I'm so glad they decided to open up this gym to the lay people, so average people like me can benefit from years of expert level knowledge. There is a lot to be learned, and all you have to do is show up!

I was referred to Diablo Barbell by Dr. Andrea Vitz, whose chiropractic office is next door. After Andrea got me out of pain, she sent me here for rehab and strengthening, so that I'll never end up in pain like that again. Six months later, I am stronger & feel better than I ever have. Whether you want to get stronger, lose weight, correct back issues, or just feel and look better than ever, this is the place where they will listen to you and help you achieve your goals, and beyond...

The best kept secret! In all honest, I was hesitant to post about them because of how great they are!

I originally came to support a friend, but what I have gained is something more. I am one of those yo-yo diet/workout fanatics. I am either all in or a couch potato. I've done my fair share of workout classes, HIIT, crossfit, 25-30 miles of running per week and even weight lifting on my own (6 days a week four hours at a time). However, I have to say, I am probably in the best shape of my life without having to kill myself at the gym, and by kill, I mean killing a bunch of time for my fitness routine. I go here 3 times per week for about an hour and a half at a time. Completely doable!

Let me preface this with the fact that I am not a morning person. In the beginning I was a little shy, which isn't my personality, but when you're waking up at 4:30 am to hit the gym by 5:30 am, chances are you aren't super excited to be awake, let alone going to work out. However, the people in the class with me were very supportive and encouraging. I felt leaps and bounds behind them, but they were there to cheer me on, something I really don't know how to do for myself. The community is the best! They inspire and push you to work harder, but you must be receptive to the possibility of community.

In all the training I have done throughout my life, there is no place you can go with as much one on one training and support. They are there watching you and making sure you have the proper form, making corrections, and making sure you are focused and in the game.

They will change your life, not only physically but mentally as well. You just need to be open to the possibility of your best self!

Thank you Jenn, Ted and Andrea, I am not really sure where my goal is, but you definitely help to keep me pushing for more.
