The best part of visiting Diablo Rock Gym is that they have a big parking lot π. I have Touchstone membership, so I can visit all sites, but this one is the most convenient one for me. Also, even with not very large bouldering wall the variety of bouldering problems makes it really fun to climb here. My backup gym after Pacific Pipe.

I have a 5 year old that has a lot of energy but it's totally patient eager to try anything new so when we saw this was local, we went online to see what and how can we get started. There is on the weekends an opportunity for one-on-one or 3:1 ratio but the two times we've been there it's been solo, or a toddler can get the harness on and get the assistant needed to start climbing.
It's a great deal at $30 for an hour and then as we were looking at the website more and more we realize if one of the adults in the family gets a membership or toddlers can come in for free and then from there we take a class to learn how to handle the ropes and assist them and they're able to climb.
Sorry for not knowing the terminology or any of this because I am not familiar at all with rock climbing it looks like a very inviting environment and while there I've seen children climbing and really strong adults climbing and even The average Joe's out there getting a chance which is intriguing to me.
Personally I don't think I'll be climbing anytime soon but with the membership it'll give my kids an opportunity to join this gym and to burn off some energy.
On our second visit I realized this was a really good place because when they went to put the harness on my kids the majority of the staff came over and watched because they themselves weren't too familiar with it and they all wanted to see how it was done and I like that because it shows stuff really wanting to learn and wanting to help. You see this a lot in the hospital you know you're at a good place when it's not just the AIDES doing the work but the nurses stop by and assist.

Theres a specific guy he is tall has curly hair and some sort of stubble he is the rudest one here, he is the ringleader and the rest of scared to defy him with them all agreeing with what he said. we brought three kids, the siblings of one of the adults which it says online can come free, this guy made both my girlfriend and i feel dumb and unprepared saying that only biological children of ours could get in. This isnt true and it says so online i had to go back and show it and he still tried to be combative as if i was wrong and didnt apologize either after being unnecessarily rude. Gym itself its cool thkugh

This place is wonderful! Shout out to staff members Kay and Maddie who were both incredibly helpful and went out of their way to make my experience here with my kid such a positive one. Great positive atmosphere to try out climbing. My son and I are both hooked and plan on getting a membership.

Came back after a long hiatus, and it was great to walk in and be greeted by name.
Tyler and Easton were working the front desk and were so kind and welcoming. I had originally planned on only buying a day pass, but being remembered and welcomed in convinced me that I should just buy the membership, so that I can be a part of the wonderful community at Diablo Rock Gym.
Other gyms push the idea of "community" as a selling point but fall short of actually delivering on that value. Staff members like Tyler and others that have a personal touch and take the time to get to know you are what makes a gym a true community.

As somebody who is new to rock climbing, Diablo Rock Gum's intro to climbing class was exactly what I needed.
I am horrible - HORRIBLE - at doing knots, but the teacher was more than helpful and make sure I was up to speed and safe.
It all paid off too - the moment I got my yellow card, everything clicked and I had a great time.
Thank you for everything - and for making me a fan!

Awesome rock climbing gym - really good vibe. Iβm a total newbie climbing with my experienced cousins and check in was a breeze. Staff was super friendly and kind getting harness and shoes. Special shout out to Dominic for the excellent service and warm welcome. It was really nice climbing here because it wasnβt intimidating. Just a fantastic place to climb. Super clean locker room and nice weight area. Iβll be back again next time Iβm in town!

Kinda bummed about my visit here. Bouldering was stuffed into a corner and very small. The gym itself was pretty dated and sets were months old. Weights equipment is scattered and most of the treadmills were broken. It got the job done, but this was the first rock gym I ever considered depressing.

It seems like this gym focuses more on rope climbing. The bouldering area is underwhelming and small :( during peak hours, the bouldering area gets really packed because itβs so compact. I get that the sport is inevitably going to come with risks but having a more open mat space could really prevent some injuries.

The staff was very rude. The day pass was far too expensive. 2/3 of the gym was closed for setting before a competition this weekend and it wasnβt posted anywhere at the entrance that you couldnβt use a portion of the gym. So we paid $145 to climb with 2 adults and 3 kids, but only 1/3 of the gym was accessible. I brought this up and the staff said βthatβs not my problemβ. I wonβt be coming back to this gym and recommend you donβt either. Also, the gym was dirty, probably the dirtiest gym Iβve ever been to, the staff was worried about talking with each other instead of being attentive or cleaning. They ripped an extension cord past us without saying excuse me or anything and hit my son with it. The energy in the gym was very negative. I wish I could get back the money I wasted there today. Donβt make the same mistake.

The bouldering area is absolutely tiny and the walls are super short, maybe 12ft tall. No traverses to make longer, more interesting routes. The mats in the bouldering area were super old and blown out. Basically, bouldering is a footnote here.
The ropes area looked decent. They did tell me that they will make belay partner announcements if asked, but frankly I can't see the benefit to a membership here unless you have a consistent belay partner; otherwise, you're relying on strangers to belay you and assuming the risks associated with that.
Overall, the gym just isn't worth the price tag. I understand that you get access to all Touchstone gyms with the $95/mo membership, but the day pass cost for this particular location ($30) is overpriced, and the membership isn't worth it if you're only using it here. Seems like this gym needs some investment and renovation to meet the standard set by other Touchstone locations - most people climb at their closest gym most of the time. If you live in Concord and are climbing here 95% of the time, you're overpaying on this facility just to be part of the Touchstone ecosystem. This gym isn't on par with Pac Pipe, Ironworks, etc. It's the same price as Movement in SF, which has much nicer facilities, far more space, etc.

Amazing rock climbing gym with top rode, lead, and bouldering facilities. They also have a complete workout gym. Staff are very friendly and nice, will teach you belaying happily if you ask. Prices are decent as well and you can stay for the whole day! Iβve been here many times with Boy Scouts and friends and have loved it each time. :)

I cancelled my membership today after tolerating this gym during the COVID days. What is so disappointing, he the gym could be great if not for a lack of maintenance and a poor staff. While the equipment is reasonably maintained, the gym itself is filthy. It is by far the dirtiest gym in the Bay Area; and while the fees continued to increase over the years, this problem has not been addressed. Rarely have I seen the same staff members from one visit to the next. Overall the staff's knowledge of climbing, especially outdoor climbing is minimal. The staff appears to be focused on socializing with each other versus being helpful to the patrons of the gym. Obviously the choice of climbing gyms are limited in the Bay, but If you have the option of choosing another gym, there are several climbing gyms that are clean, have well maintained equipment, and have a knowledgeable and responsive staff.

I love this rock climbing gym. I think it's a right size for a beginner like me. When I first tried rock climbing, I was nervous and scared. My cousins were encouraging and I managed to get over my fear of falling to my death. LOL.
My advice for first timers is give yourself time to learn and have fun doing it. Don't pressure yourself to be this expert climber in a short period of time. I'm still a beginner myself. Take your time to learn how to tie a figure eight and the safety steps in setting up as a climber and belayer.
I love that I end up getting my belay card from DRG because it was my first rock climbing gym. Shout out to Tyler for being patient with me during my first belay test at DRG. He said my belaying technique would wear me out fast, so he gave me a few tips to improve. Credit to Dom for also teaching me about the maximum fist length. For some, this may go over your head LOL. Overall, this is a clean gym with good size boulder section, top roping and lead climbing. Also, it has decent size of gym equipment and weights. They also have fitness class. Y'all have to check out their website for more info.

I first called attempting to set up a specific group event that was advertised on the website. The employee I spoke with said I needed to email the manager. I never received a response to my email. The group I was with ultimately decided they wanted to go anyway. Arriving at the gym, the staff made sure everyone had vaccination cards, but were not interested in answering questions. They really gave the "Why are you bothering me?" vibe.
I will note that when one of my group wanted to take the belaying test, the staff member was very helpful and attentive.
When away from the staff and left to their own devices, the members of my group did enjoy themselves.

Awesome facility with constantly rotating routes for new challenges. Staff are all super friendly and helpful and everything is kept cleaned and organized. I recently joined a few weeks ago and everyone there has made jumping into climbing an easy and fun experience. They also have CrossFit classes at a discount for members so I might be trying that in the future. They do have drop-in rates and month passes, but do yourself a favor and just get a membership and it pays for itself within a few visits!

They have a room for pizza/cake parties, that you must book. The facility is kept clean and well maintained. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. It is a good workout with a lot of fun. The two guys who answered the phone on 8/25/18 at 11:30 a.m. were unable or unwilling to answer my questions. However, they were both quick to tell me that most people go online for information. So here I am online writing this review. The information given to me by your employees contradicted what your webpage says as far as booking Kids belay. I assume then that they either didn't really check the availability or that your webpage is wrong and thus my phone call was necessary, Or your employees are lazy (read way to cool to give out accurate information) and losing you a trivial amount of money. I understand that $40 is meaningless to your business, I also understand that losing one customer isn't really that important, but what should mean a lot is excluding two young girls from participating in the sport that your business is so passionate about. Thanks guys.

I came here with a friend a few months back just for something to do and immediately fell in love with climbing. Great gym, people are nice and staff is great. It's on the smaller end but it's usually not as busy for that reason. Lots of good too rope routes and a smaller bouldering area that gets more interesting the better you get at climbing. Love it so much I bought gear and a membership after my second visit. A great place for beginners and there were many harder routes for experienced climbers.

I haven't been to many climbing gyms in the past, so i thought that the reason i was so impressed with this place was due to my inexperience, but when i caught the bug, got back home to Florida, and tried to find something similar i soon realized how special Diablo rock gym really is.
The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and the facility is incredible. Best of all, the atmosphere and people there was infectious. Everyone is extremely encouraging, and wants to see you succeed, and will help you get there.
The fully equipped weight training facility inside was a great bonus!

I have a bunch of friends that go rock climbing in the city but since I work out of walnit Creek I didn't have the time to go. A co-worker said that there was a gym in walnut Creek so I decided to try it out.
At first I thought it was small because I only bouldered, but as I started to get into top roping and getting into harder routes it was a very friendly and warm place.
At this location they hold a bunch of free events for members and everyone that I talk to that goes here loves it.

So Disappointing.
This review is based on the overall experience. Our 11 year old son, after a previous visit to this gym, requested his birthday party be kept at this place. We called the Gym in advance to reserve, and were told that the reservation can only be done online and assured us it is easy, safe and secured (questionable). Setup the reservation online paying the deposit, and when we called the day before the event to ask questions regarding bringing in the pizza and cake, we were told "There is NO reservation!", and that there is nothing that can be done at this time. We had invited 16 kids to come from Lafayette and had no place to go. After calling back, the reservation was found, however made at Fresno Gym. We never inquired about any other locations and made the reservation on their site without getting any options to choose a different location. Now that the reservation was found, we are told that we still cannot come because they do not have staff. We offered to do ropes and we were told to come late that day for training. Once the staff part was resolved, we were told that they do not have a room to do the party in. After insisting for awhile, they offered their yoga classroom. Once we saw it we understood their hesitation... The room was smelling terrible and felt dirty and the chairs they provided looked like they were retrieved from a garbage bin as well as not enough of them. Dirty, ugly looking, or even smaller size. We had to ask for someone to do something about that smell so that we can bring the kids and have them fed. The check in process was slow, unpleasant and disorganized. We were embarrassed in front of the parents dropping of their children but for the staff it seemed normal. Most kids in our party within the hour and a half provided, they did the claim once or twice due to the overcrowding and long wait times. We were not at ease with the instructors that told 8-10 year old kids to claim the big boulders without the ropes. Three instructors were supposed to be assigned to our group, however we only saw one active and assumed that two other ones were talking to each other by the smaller boulders intended for the younger kids. Most staff was unpleasant to talk to or was talking to the kids in a "somewhat rude" and inpatient manner without explaining what was that they did wrong.
The amount of stress that this particular part of our son's birthday celebration put on us was not worth the little fun the Gym provides. We believe it may be a great place to work out or claim but by no means they are ready or willing to host and welcome a group of kids coming all at once.
