Love the boulders here, but the customer service is bad. Most (not all) but most of the employees at the front desk are extremely unpleasant. Smiling is not something that happens often, and there is one employee and young lady with dark hair who simply can’t be bothered. She doesn’t make eye contact, acts like the customers are a bother and, simply put, is just rude. I’ve been a member at Touchstone for sometime have not experienced such unpleasant service at any of the other locations. I don’t write reviews often but I’m tired of the way I’m treated coming here — like I’m not welcome. It’s bizarre, and a bummer. I wish there was another Boulder gym closer that I could switch to. Movement SF is out the way l, but seriously considering being done with this place despite the solid routes

First time going to this place. Was amazed by how big the complex is. Tons of problems to solve. But the staff was not very friendly and helpful. I think this is more suitable for intermediate/advanced/regular climbers. Not beginner/new comer friendly.

Vast bouldering gym. Tons of problems. Unique walls. An actual slab area versus most other places that only have one or two slab climbs. If bouldering is your thing you should come here. I can only compare it to Boulder, CO gyms and this one is way bigger. The setting is good.

Great gym! But they conditioned me to do certain behaviors when the fear of energy or the flow entered into my mind and then tried to suggest I was getting bad karma for those behaviors. Before listening to their “yogis” and taking what they say to heart, understand that they really just went to a glorified cosmetology school to get where they are.

These people at Touchstone and the manipulation strategies they use are the exact reason we see homeless or mentally ill people exhibiting behaviors we would label crazy. It’s sickening. The disorder doesn’t cause the behaviors, social conditioning does and people at Touchstone Gym know this and use it as a tool for manipulation. Shame on them.

Sorry for puttin you guys on blast, but I have to deal with the after effects of this every day. Every single day. Unlike your usual clientele I can’t afford a 2 week retreat to recover from this. I’m still trying to deprogram my mind from the delusional world views introduced to me by one of your “Yogis” and I have a mood disorder. How is that fair? Shame on you all, you turned a happy and loving person into a paranoid and angry person. You did that Touchstone. Shame on you all.

You took away my peace, you can deal with my 1 star reviews, I can’t deal with your paranoid delusions that you spread through your “yoga community”

The best Touchstone gym in the Bay Area!
Women's locker room is large (personal lock not required, the have a keypad/code). Lots of showers, towels available, and the dry sauna is roomy and hot. Two different weight areas and a large space for yoga and stretching upstairs. Never feels too crowded, even in the busy evenings. Parking in the area isn't too bad depending on time of day, just expect to walk a few minutes with your bags after parking.

Really nice facility for bouldering -- huge space filled with commercial boulders, as well as Kilter board and spray walls which are certainly nice to have. Pretty good selection of training equipment (campus rungs, a few hangboards, adequate weights section for climbers, no pegboard).

However, it's a bit too pricey and crowded for me. Maybe I'm just a bit grouchy remembering the crowds and prices of Bay Area gyms 10 years ago, but it's hard for me to justify the cost, especially considering there's a number of things that I don't particularly want to subsidize through my membership (classes, yoga, events, coworking space) and the number of people I have to fight through to get to the things I do want to use.

one of the best gyms in the bay by far. all new holds, gym equipment, and sauna. plenty of space to study and stretch when you're not climbing. FANTASTIC service. employees are kind, helpful, and fun to talk to. can get busy weekday evenings but there's plenty of well-set routes to try including a comp wall.

I had a really great experience bouldering here as a novice. The routes helped me practice a lot of skills and techniques which are either new or unfamiliar to me. It’s climbing so obviously there’s going to be an emphasis on the vertical aspects of movement, but it’s nice to be challenged also horizontally in that setting. I feel like a lot of routes for beginners put too much emphasis on going up and down while a lot of the V0-V1 in this gym exposed you to different elements of bouldering.

★ 3

Pretty great setting, but a steep incline of difficulty from v6 to v7, really greasy holds, terrible brushes, and not the best ventilation.

I went in for a few hours and could not only flash v6 consistently, but also do them as 4x4s and couldn't get a single 7. I don't think anyone brushes the holds and there's a ton of traffic before they are reset so the holds are VERY greasy. Part of the reason no one brushes the holds is because they only have 2 brushes, both of which are just poles with brushes poorly taped to their ends.

The general facilities, weight area, hangboards, spray walls, bathrooms, and other aspects of the gym are actually quite nice, though!

Dogpatch Boulders is hands down one of the best climbing gyms in the Bay Area! The facility is massive, with walls for all levels—from beginner to advanced. The route setting is creative and challenging, keeping things fresh and exciting every time I visit.

The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to help with tips or advice. The community vibe here is amazing—welcoming and encouraging, no matter your skill level.

One of the highlights? They have a sauna in each of the locker rooms! It’s the perfect way to unwind after a tough session on the walls. Combine that with their clean and well-maintained gym, spacious training areas, and even a yoga studio, and this place really has it all. Highly recommend for climbers of all levels!

Dogpatch boulders is the premise spot for bouldering in SF. Mission cliffs, its' sister gym, has a tiny bouldering section. I usually go early in the morning and there are literally only like 10-20 people there. It's perfect. The difficulty is maybe a bit greater here than other places. I wish the "V" system was uniform across all gyms.

Big facility with lots of routes, but one of the dirtiest gyms I’ve ever seen. No one brushes holds and everything is sitting in a layer of chalk and rubber. I left with blackened hands. Comp wall was fun routes but the rest felt pretty samey. Quantity over quality routesetting where I didnt feel the need to go to the fourth or fifth overhang section. Cant emphasize the amount of chalk and rubber, I could scoop it with my hand off the holds.

Powerful Setting. I get shut down on some steep V5 and flash the slabby or strange V7. It's a nice gym and I've been on the scene for around 10 years. Lots of training equipment and new boulderers. I really enjoyed getting stronger on their dense spraywalls. One of the staff was acting creepy to my girlfriend and seemed like he was following her around which distracted her from focusing on the workout. I've removed a single star for this reason.

Had a lot of fun by myself. Not crowded on a Wednesday morning in December. So many walls/routes to choose from. Can use real chalk (unlike my local indoor climbing gym, which only allows liquid chalk). All areas (including bathrooms/locker rooms) are very clean. Temperature just right inside. The holds feel good (not greasy). The routes are fun to climb and figure out—the grades seem to scale for both technique and strength rather than just strength/height. Wish I had more time here. Looking forward squeezing in another session here the next time I’m in SF.

Update: Upon visiting again, the holds are not overly slick and overall the setting is exceptional. The gym can get busy, but is a great place to visit regardless

_______________________

As others have said, a huge number of problems, nice tall walls, and slab problems! But many of the climbs have holds so slick you cannot enjoy the climbs or trust the friction.

Coming from other touchstone gyms I had high hopes, but the visit left me disappointed. The gym has a lot of potential, but the slick holds ruined my experience. I'm very happy this is not my home gym.

The gym has a kilter board and spray walls, but no tension or moon board

This gym has so much potential but of the 20ish routes I tried, most of them had unsafe holds. Dealing with chalked up holds is one thing but these are completely worn down to the point where they are smooth and unpredictably slippery. The route setting was great and the problems would have been great to work on if the holds weren't so sketchy.

Huge variety of boulder problems in a fun environment. Other training areas for yoga, hanboarding, cardio, and freeweights. Like many climbing gyms their weight section is fairly limited, but has plenty of barbells/plates and dumbells for simple compounds. This gym is part of a network (touchstone) that lets you into other locations. For instance this one has no top roping or lead climbing, but that is the majority of the other SF location. Bathrooms have been clean, but i have not tried showering yet. There is a sauna

Dogpatch is my home gym, I visit three times a week (sometimes more) to climb and train. They have a large selection of bouldering, a kilter board, spray wall, campus board, weight training area, as well as additional areas upstairs for classes and training. The setting team is swift, I have yet to be able to catch up and often find myself putting those last few tries on my project after I'm already tired for the session, knowing it will be reset before I can come back for it. I am still fairly new in my climbing, averaging V3-5, but I would say the gym is slightly soft in comparison with other gyms (Pacific Pipe for example, or other gyms I've visited in the Midwest). Nonetheless, dogpatch enables me to train hard and work on a large variety of movements. The weight training area has a large weight rack, which serves as a pull-up station in addition to squat/bench/deadlifts/etc. There are specialized equipment such as the hang boards, weight belts for weighted pullups, and a wrist roller. Parking can be difficult, so give yourself a few extra minutes to find a spot, often behind the gym on 22nd or the street behind. As a female bodied person, I have always felt safe and welcomed at the gym, though sometimes the send bros don't realize they're hogging the wall and you'll have to interrupt them to put in your tries, happens anywhere. The locker room has showers and a sauna, great for after particularly hard sessions.
If you're on the fence, I'd recommend stopping by! Day passes are a bit expensive, $30 for a day, but at $95 for the monthly membership is much more affordable. There is also a small shop at the front which includes climbing guides, drinks, snacks, and a limited selection of climbing shoes. Hope to see you around dogpatch

Massive amount of problems, some really creative boulders, really tall walls! Could easily be 5 stars if the gym put more thought into maintenance: mats are torn and way overdue for replacement and many holds are so worn to the point that they're completely slick and basically unclimbable. Either the holds require more aggressive washing and regular brushing while they're on the wall (where are the brushes??) or they're simply ready to be retired.

I LOVE the community at Dogpatch Boulders.

However, I do feel like their lack of maintenance towards the mats is a serious safety hazard. Myself and friends have come really close to twisting our ankles and have tripped multiple times due to the ripped, and dilapidating mats. It really boggles my mind that a gym that is so successful has put off replacing mats over a year. The mats in the back corner are of serious concern as the holes are right under where you land when falling.
