I couldn’t ask for better service. Justin Escamilla and Alexa Laurie are very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. I felt very comfortable during my first workout with a trainer. Facilities are amazing: clean and comfortable. I definitely recommend this place to friends and family.

I've been a Gold's Gym/Eos member for over 40 years. The management is very attentive to their clients, and the facilities are well maintained. A nice touch is the welcome in greeting as you walk in the door, as well as being acknowledged as you leave. I also appreciate the staff's efforts on maintenance and maintaining the equipment.

I’m working in town for the week and stopped by EOS Goleta with my coworker and his wife since my membership allows a guest. When we arrived, the front desk told us they “no longer do guest passes.” The attendant even asked the manager if they could make an exception, and they said yes but only for 1 person then only to then tell us a 1-day guest pass for the other individual is FORTY dollars.
I literally had to ask, “$4 or $40?” And nope — she confirmed $40 with a straight face. A day pass costing more than a monthly premium membership… while the company advertises “$1 to join” promos everywhere. Even the attendant admitted how ridiculous their price was.
We reluctantly paid because we just wanted to get a workout in, but the moment I walked inside I realized this was the old Gold’s Gym — just rebranded as EOS, with all the same outdated, worn-down equipment. The place smelled like pee and BO, nothing felt clean, the dumbbells were mismatched and chipped, and the entire gym had a cramped, unfriendly vibe.
To top it off, there was ONE sanitizing wipe station, and of course, it was empty. The gym was overcrowded, dirty, and honestly worse than some budget hotel gyms I’ve seen.
This location is an embarrassment to the EOS brand. I will never be coming back, and if you value your time, money, or hygiene, you might want to avoid this place too.BTW the photos posted for this establishment are all false and look nothing like reality.
Thanks, EOS Goleta, for completely ruining what should have been a simple workout

Gina is an amazing fitness trainer.
Her classes are the best. When I leave her yoga I feel so rejuvenated. She really cares and gives the best instructions to prevent injury. It’s not only a great yoga for my body but my mind! It’s challenging and advanced for me but she always gives alternative positions. I try to make all her classes because my life is better after.

I signed up for golds gym and they illegally signed my wife up for a second membership. We were not notified they signed her up for her own membership agreement until I cancelled my membership and noticed we were still being charged. If you sign up with at the Goleta location, be careful to hide your family members names from them or you will all be paying separate $60 gym memberships. My wife never stepped foot in the gym and yet they somehow had her signature and everything?

Its not a one star gym, and I've been a member here for years but man what a drop in quality. Unreliable staff, sauna never working, bathroom stall broken for months, faucets for washing hands not working foe months, restrooms dirty/unkept, and most relevantly -equipment is always broken. And if you're here for the cardio, many of the machines stutter / jolt causing bad runs and potential injury. They used to be much better when they had a maintenance guy in the morning who was amazing and keeping everything together but they let him go instead of giving him a much deserved raise 😭
Not a lot of gym options in Goleta where i work and live, but honestly I've stopped recommending this gym to my friends :(
Edit: just to hammer home how often machines are broken here, smh not even the stalls are fixed

Please do not show online interest in this gym. They will not stop calling and harassing you to sign up. Even when you tell them to stop they continue. When you block their number they find ways to override that. I will never use this gym. Next step is legal counsel 😡

I love other Golds gym cooperations. This one the other hand is my second worst experience of any gym. Payed according to contractual agreement yet I’m getting calls being sent to “collections”. I had canceled and did everything according to the agreement. This gym violates consumer protection laws and unlike other golds gyms charge 40 for a day pass to coerce you into a membership. Good thing I never signed up with credit info. pay cash only and don’t sign with a credit card. On top of that there is subpar equipment. Scum gyms manipulate to have financial gain I recommend not taking any intimidation because you will win due to this locations malpractice.

Fine gym but listen... if you ever need to cancel expect a massive hassle. After calling multiple times the people at the front desk gave me a customer service line to call to help with cancellation. Turns out it was a prank phone number for geriatric medical device sweepstakes. Funny I have to admit but my god was this an annoying experience.

The gym is clean, well maintained, and seems to have all the equipment a person would need to stay fit.
However, one impolite trend I see rapidly increasing is this: young people get on a piece of equipment and PARK THERE for minutes on end to play with their iPhones. Then they do a few reps, taking a looong rest to recover, still sitting on the equipment to play many minutes more to with their phones. This behavior is epidemic now. I am not joking. For older patrons who just want access to the machines, this behavior is a nuisance. We come to work out and then get on with the things we have to do with our day.
Could you please post signs or something to ask members to get off the machines if they are not actually using them?
Yours,
elona masson

This location has a problem with staffing reliable workers. I like getting my workout done before work but it is frustrating when no one is there to open the gym. They tend to open around 5:30- 5:45 when opening time is 5 am. I hope you can address this issue.

I had a very disappointing experience with Gold’s Gym SoCal in Goleta, specifically with Hector Barrera, the Membership Sales Manager. My daughter and her friend joined the gym, but unfortunately, my daughter fell ill and was unable to use the membership even once. When I reached out to Hector to cancel, I was met with no flexibility or understanding.
Despite explaining the situation, he insisted on charging me for an additional month because I had supposedly missed the cancellation deadline by just one day. As a result, I was forced to pay for a total of three months for two unused memberships. I found this to be extremely unprofessional and a clear example of putting profit over customer service.
I would not recommend this gym due to their rigid, money-driven policies and lack of consideration for their members.

I have been a member of this gym since it was Spectrum (easily over 10 years). This gym has slowly and consistently gotten worse, and the following have been consistent problems:
1) Far to often it does not open in the morning on time
2) One of the elliptical machines has not worked in years.
3) The paper towel dispenser in the men's room almost never works
5) The wet wipes for cleaning machines after use are consistently empty or not functioning properly.
6) The members who want to just workout and go home are not prioritized while members who monopolize multiple pieces of equipment at once including space for their "mobile film studios" are.
7) The equipment (particularly the bench press area) is set up so close together as to make racking and accessing the weights impossible .
If you want to train and get results, this place is not for you. However if you want to take up space and say you "work out" while narcissisticly filming yourself, you have found your gym.
There are multiple gyms in the area very close by, I would recommend going to one of them.

BEWARE!!!!!! I was in the area and signed up for a one-month membership because that's as long as I was going to be in the Goleta area. I'm now on the phone with my bank because they charged me for a membership I did not agree to. I signed up for the one month membership and I told them that if I wanted another month I would come back physically and update my card. They said no problem. It was a month to month membership, no commitment. I now have a charge from gold membership that I did not approve and I did not even notice it was happening until I went to go check my bank account. Beware this company will take money from you without your consent. I agreed to the month-to-month membership and somehow I'm having money taken out of my bank account for a month I did not approve for.

Even though you are a Gold's Gym member with Platinum Access, which includes all Gold's Gym SoCal locations, including Goleta and Santa Barbara locations, you will encounter resistance when attempting to use your membership perks.
As a Platinum Access member, where your contract allows for unlimited guest privileges, misinformed staff will fail to adhere to your membership contract and will prevent your entry with a guest.
Note that their Goleta Location FAQ states:
What's the policy on guests or bringing a friend?
As long as guest passes are included in your membership or there's a special promotion, you can bring a guest.

I rarely take time to write reviews, but I wanted to take a moment to say how impressed I am with Johnny, the new facilities manager at the Goleta Golds Gym. He clearly cares about the facility, has a super-friendly, outgoing personality and goes out of his way to be helpful and answer member questions. However, I specifically want to address the cleaning staff and in particular Francisco for a compliment. This guy is the hardest working staff member there. His focus, hard work and attention to detail plus his tireless efforts to keep the gym spotless always impress me. He is always moving heavy equipment and weight racks to clean the baseboards. This place is by far the cleanest of all three Gold's Gyms in Santa Barbara. You could eat off the floor here! Bravo to the whole team at Goleta for making it a pleasure to work out here.

At least once a month, the opener doesn't show up. People only go to the gym at 5am if they have work they need to get to. It disrupts everyone's morning routine. It used to happen at least once a week, so at least it is getting better? No. It should never happen. It's ridiculous. This is never an issue at the State Street location (thanks to Bridget!). Management needs to figure this out.

Recieved a 7 day pass to try out the gym. However, my first day didnt go as planned. It took about 20-30 min to get checked in. Instead of me signing the waiver and trying it out, I was forced to sit down and talk about plans. They basically wanted my credit card info before I worked out. The salesperson was a little too much for me. With that and the gym being way overcrowded, I left. Did some math and found that for the price of a two year membership, I could buy myself a nice complete home gym for the garage. So I ordered one online. Very nice facility I must say. Knocked two stars for the overcrowding and the guy who just wanted to sell sell sell instead of let me workout.

Nice gym! The facility is newer and the equipment looks new. I liked that they have a room with kickboxing bags and they have a small outdoor turf area as well. Similar to the Golds in downtown SB however they keep it about 5 - 10 degrees too warm in the cardio area and there is minimal air circulation around the treadmills. If they could put up some fans that would greatly improve it. Otherwise though, it is a nice, clean facility!

Nice overall gym, but there are some very Kmart things here:
1.) Old men love to stand around naked forever and just walk around like that. So weird, no one wants to see that.
2.) Everyone can afford a gym membership, but not a lock for their locker? Why?
3.) Dudes walk around the locker room and even restrooms (barf) barefoot with their busted foot fungus feet just spreading disease around. So gross.
4.) There’s always this one janitor who is in the way at all times. Yo, clean the floors when the gym is not super busy, pal.

I love this gym. I've been going here with my mom for a few months and it's been great. The workers are all very nice and welcoming and helpful. It has everything I need and I always feel safe and comfortable there. The personal training is great and the classes like Body Pump and Body Combat provide a great workout. I've made a lot of friends with the workers and other people who go around the same time I do. The place is also very clean and tidy.

Review as of October 2021:
I've been a member here for 20+ years, excluding the time it was sold to Spectrum/Bay Club.
For gyms/fitness facilities in Santa Barbara, Goleta location is the best in my opinion, followed by Uptown. Good variety of equipment, in good repair. Dumbbells to 120 lbs.
The gym is generally clean and well maintained, and management has been receptive to feedback (complaints haha) and implemented changes.
As part of the 5:00 A.M. crew, there's always equipment available.
Positives: Towel service (free), Sauna (when it works which as of Fall 2021 is most of the time) good equipment. Music is better now, after a recent adjustment.
Negatives: This is on the members, but many people seem unable to re-rack their dumbbells in their correct spot.
Needs improvement: evening cleaning / vacuuming, would like to not see trash/lint on the floor when we come in first thing in the morning. Also early morning openers have been late several times (2x in this month) which is a pain for those of us on a tight morning schedule.
All in all, a great gym, friendly staff.

He has learned my habits and has had workout bands ready for me by the time I come in. Kevin is a stellar employee and always goes above and beyond for all of my concerns. Most people would be grumpy so early in the morning but not Kevin the front desk service rep. He is always so kind and I’ve never seen him not have a smile on his face. He always says good morning to everyone who comes in and makes it a point to remember peoples names without looking at the computer. The gym itself is great but Kevin makes it 5 stars hands down. Would give 6 stars if I could. Thank you golds for hiring such an awesome employee! Thank you Kevin for all the positive energy you bring to the mornings!

Terrible Service
I was very disappointed with the Customer Service at this gym. I arrived to the gym and had to wait several minutes as there was no representative at the front desk. Once I finally found a Representative (Kevin) that could "help" I unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience.
He was rude, and could not even say a simple Good Morning to greet customers. Kevin gave me a difficult time to use my 7 day pass and was not welcoming at all. Kevin stated that I had to meet with a representative in order to use my 7 day pass, BUT keep in mind a Membership representative was not even physically present at the gym, thus it was impossible to meet with a Gym membership representative. (Kevin did not inform me of this until I was ready to speak with a supervisor/ gym manager) I mentioned to Kevin that I had previously met with a membership Representative which is how I obtained the 7-day pass. Finally after insisting, Kevin said he would waive it for today and allow me to use the gym.
He then proceeded by telling me I had to wait 5 minuted so he could copy my license. Keep in mind the copy machine is directly behind him and the front desk is not busy. Making a copy realistically speaking does not take 5 minutes. Kevin's lethargic demeanor was beyond frustrating and not welcoming at all.

Gold’s is my favorite workout spot when on business trips to Goleta. Celeste (manager) and the staff are always very friendly and helpful. And I really appreciated the advice of Daniel Senn (one of their many credentialed trainers) related to some nagging shoulder soreness. Using his advised techniques, I experienced practically no pain in my next workout.
I wish they had more squat racks, but otherwise have had no problems with the equipment.

After shopping around Goleta & Santa Barbara; I found this place to be the cheapest for a temporary month membership. The place is very clean, spacious, and the staff are awesome.

I had a training session with Tabitha, she was very personal, stayed focused with my goals during the session. I would recommend her for anyone looking for some personal help with their workouts.
Also, I took a spinning class with Shem. It was my first class and I had chatted with him prior to the class to see how full it was, etc. He was so enthusiastic and nice, he always has that wonderful smile. What a great instructor!

Don't get bamboozled into paying for an extra 2 months when you want to cancel your membership. Their threat to send you to collections is only to intimidate you it has no merit. You are not obligated to continue paying once you cancel your month to month contract, that's absurd. You don't have to go in and sign anything and if they call you just hang up at some point they will find someone else to hate. Simply ask your bank or credit card company to block them from future charges so you don't have to update your card or bank account #. I disputed the last 6 months charges with American Express and was issued a full credit in a few weeks. Don't let them push you around it's just a gym. - club member since 2001
