This review is just for the aescape massage. I was greeted at the host stand and taken up to the spa room after signing some waivers and filling my information at the front. The employee instructed me on which size suit to wear and how to use the machine. There’s also a poster detailing all the steps you should take before you get onto the machine.

The machine itself was enough pressure, which I was scared about because I like very deep firm massages. However, it doesn’t have fingers so it’s more for the big muscles. It only goes from the top of your back to the bottom of your calves right now. Well, that part was a good massage and you can regulate pressure and skip sections you didn’t like, but you are left, wishing that it could massage neck, top of the shoulders, head, and feet and hands. Maybe one day soon!

After the massage you throw your used suit into a trash bin and you’re all done. Everything is prepaid.

Also used the restroom which was large with showers and lockers.

If you’re planning to enjoy an aescape massage, don’t forget to bring your ID even though it’s not mentioned in the registration. Otherwise, the ever-vigilant Equinox “police” at the front door will heroically stop you from even stepping foot in the gym.

I came to this Equinox Beale Street location specifically to try Aescape’s robot massage, and it was great. I did the 60‑min full body and really liked the comfy compression gear and how simple the setup/instructions were. Being able to adjust pressure mid‑session and control the music was a big plus. The massage felt excellent, and I liked seeing which areas were coming next with the on‑screen visual of the robot’s movements. Pleasant experience in a convenient, nice location—would def do it again. Only minor nit: the lights stayed dim but on, I think next time I’ll bring an eye mask.

This has been the worst experience I’ve had at an Equinox gym. I’ve been a loyal Plano member for 2.5 years, and when I visited this location to see if I could use it if I moved here, the manager was extremely rude. Strangely, they allow brand-new people to try the gym for a day but refuse the same courtesy to an existing, paying Equinox member. It left me with the worst feeling ever and a very poor impression of this location

I’ve had 3 occurrences in the past 2 months that have led me to question the management of this facility:

1. From 1/2 through the next 2 weeks, the shop was closed. When I enquired with the front desk on the evening of 1/8 since my gift card was about to expire in 3 days, the employees behind the front desk said the shop would not be open for the rest of the week, but that it was common for them to allow members to use gift cards even if expired. I learned today from the manager that this was a false claim and that I could no longer use the $100, even though the shop was not open for weeks at the only location I’m a member of.

2. On the evening of 1/2, my AirPod case fell out of my bag in the locker room, but I didn’t realize my AirPods had fallen out of the case until after my workout. I enquired with the front desk if they found my airpods since I didn’t see them around my locker. I was told by the front desk to look harder in the locker room since nothing was reported in lost & found. I used the Find My app on my AirPods and found my AirPods ringing in the front desk, after trying to locate them throughout the locker room area. If not for the Find My app causing my AirPods to ring, they would’ve been lost inside the front desk?

3. I requested a membership freeze at the end of Nov since I would be traveling ~4 weeks. The front desk said it was possible for $50 and told me to confirm in the email to set it up. The email I received on 11/20 titled “Freeze Your Equinox Membership” said “Please note that your membership will remain active and regular billing will continue until you complete the update process and receive confirmation that your account is frozen. If you complete the update after the 22nd, you may have already been charged for the upcoming month. We will automatically grant you credit for that time when you return.” However, after I completed the process on the 20th, I received a follow-up email with a different message and billing: “Since you are within your initial period, you will be charged your normal dues while on freeze. Equinox will grant you credit for that time at the end of your obligation period.” Shouldn’t that have been communicated prior rather than after I clicked confirm on the freeze since I’m being charged an extra $200?

Edit: Adding a star since the manager did go back on her initial decision and let me use my gift card in the end.

As the Lifestyle Manager over at Spera, a luxury residential property in San Francisco, I’m always looking to bring in top-tier talent to elevate our resident experiences — and I was so happy (and honestly honored!) to get connected with Nina for our first-ever spin class!

From the moment she walked in, Nina brought nothing but pure fire — professional, prepared, and full of charisma. She curated a high-energy, beat-driven cycling session that completely transformed our fitness club. The vibes were immaculate, and the playlist? Chef’s kiss. Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Chappell Roan, basically my dream workout soundtrack and the residents were living for it.

Nina’s coaching style is everything you want in a great instructor: motivating, empowering, fun, and incredibly tuned in to the room. She got every single person hyped, moving, and confident, regardless of their fitness level. I even hopped on a bike myself and I’m so glad I did. She made it impossible not to join in.

If you're looking for a coach who brings results and soul — Nina is your girl!

This is a fantastic gym, super clean with plenty of equipment and super friendly staff. I just moved from Europe, was looking for a gym and got a bit worried with the ratings but I’m glad I got a membership there! Steam room is really nice and powerful with lots of steam. The showers are really clean. So far I’m really pleased with my experience!

Equinox is a mixed bag and I will write a more thorough review at some point, in the meantime I want to note how crappy it is that their glitchy app makes it impossible to opt out of having your data shared and sold (in addition to the moral issue here, CA residents are legally entitled to such opt-outs).

This is all the more egregious considering that front desk staff will continually harangue you to use their app to check in, despite the fact that there is no official requirement to do so. They use the excuse that "it might get too busy at peak hours" but Equinox certainly charges enough for memberships to be able to pay the required amount of staff to check people in the old fashioned way, something that even the cheapest gyms manage to do.

The showers take too long to warm up, and the provided soaps are subpar. Unlike other Equinox locations, this gym lacks key amenities such as a sauna or pool. Additionally, it’s closed on weekends, and the management makes canceling a membership incredibly difficult. The only highlights are the class instructors and the eucalyptus towels. Save your money and check out Bay Club, Barry’s, CorePower, or one of the many other gyms in San Francisco instead.

Wish they offered some kind of weekend hours for those of us who live in the neighborhood. That is why I am giving this location 3 stars. 4 stars if they offered weekend hours. No TVs for viewing in the cardio areas so you have to stare out at other people while they workout. Staff seems nice and gym is clean. It is a newer facility so time will tell if it stays that way. Overall it just feels like equinox is not what it used to be. It’s quite expensive to be a member but if you use the gym a lot I guess it is somewhat worth the money.

If there was an option to rate them negative 5 stars I would do it with a passion. They make it intentionally impossible for you to cancel your membership. I called this location almost 7 times in 2 weeks and every time they told me a manager would get back to me and they’d leave a note in their system. I never received a call back and had to keep calling until they finally put me in touch with someone. 3/7 people I spoke with actually followed through with leaving a note in the system.

The person they put me in touch with seemed more interested in avoiding a negative review than actually helping me figure out the problem. If you value great customer service DO NOT COME HERE. Also, the hours for this gym are terrible, they close at 9 pm every day (8 pm on Fridays) and they are closed on weekends. If I had a higher IQ I would’ve come to my senses and gone to Fitness SF or even just started doing jumping jacks in my apartment. Avoid this spot 👍🏼

Absolute worst experience with terrible customer service. They place fraudulent charges on your account and then try to make it as 'Equinox policy' to be able to do so. They don't deserve customer time or money, much better options available.

Transferred from Equinox San Mateo to Equinox Beale street but they won’t credit the cost different for the first month. Tried resolving this with management but their response was just, “It won’t be credited, I’m sorry”. I made sure to confirm with them before I transferred that I would get credited. Completely went back on their transfer policy promise and there is no attempt to fix it. Very disappointing.

Fairly small. Closes early on weekdays and closed all weekend. Does not allow you to visit other locations when closed on the weekend, like my old equinox in Boston did. Hard pass.

I must say, Equinox Beale Street is my favorite facility in San Francisco. I have been to two of them, and I wasn't that impressed - I felt like there wasn't enough room for me to really enjoy the experience.

However, at this facility, there was nothing but space and room for me to get my best workout on. You can tell that whoever designs this facility made sure to properly utilize the square footage to make sure that every piece of equipment ever needed is available to the clientele.

I also appreciate the locker room and the space that comes with it. Even though there were people in the same row with me, I did not feel like they were overlapping into my personal space; even if their lockers were right next to mine.

All of the equipment was either extremely up to date or extremely reliable. The hospitality seemed lukewarm to fair. However, there weren't too many employees there during the morning, so I wasn't expecting much.

I know that some people felt like this facility was slightly crowded, but I didn't feel like that at all. I think if you go in the morning, you can get your best workout before ultimately people start flooding in.

However, I believe that it is like that at every facility and every brand. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone using the Equinox brand.

The only thing I did not enjoy for my first day working out here was that there was no hot water. Unfortunately, I already had used my hygiene products before I stepped into the shower to find that out. Hopefully, that is fixed.

Outside of that, I enjoyed my overall experience, and I look forward to returning.

I debated joining Equinox for a few months and then decided to join Beale street and haven't regretted it. The facility is always so clean (the cleaning staff are kind and always around), the classes are great, a good variety of equipment is always available (eucalyptus steam room and towels are the cherry on top) and the staff are incredible. MJ at the front desk greets me by name and the manager Chris is always attentive and present. Great customer service. This place is worth the money!

General manager “Chris” walked up to me in the middle of an exercise, said they don’t allow video chat / remote instructors while using the equipment, because of “policy / insurance / liability” reasons, then tried to sell me their personal training services. This is very different to what the sales rep told me a day ago when they are trying to get me to buy the membership. So I simply walked out the door and told family and friends who are considering to join Equinox not to come here.
