This gym could be much better if they managed the personal trainers properly. The personal trainers often block walkways and occupy equipment for 20 minutes at a time, making it hard for regular members to complete their workouts on schedule. It feels like they prioritize personal training sessions over the rest of the gym members.

Love my gym; have been a member since the year they opened, however quality of customer service by front desk is inconsistent based on the constant rotation of new local students needing a part time job. Mean while rates continue to go up. Downgraded to 3 stars

We already know it’s overpriced. But I feel like it’s a luxury I’m willing to pay. As long as I can make it 3-4 times a week it’s worth it. I will say it’s a little on the hotter side inside the gym idk maybe it’s just me

The asian male who works at the front desk with braids and a beanie has to be the rudest/incompetent employee at a gym I've met. While initially friendly, when it came to cancelling my membership he sent me a link and said I had up to 3 days to fill it out. On the 3rd day I tried to fill out the link, but it was expired. I called the gym, and he picked up saying to come in to try to help. Once I got there, I asked to speak with billing but he insisted he could help. Instead of actually helping me, he suddenly decided to let me know that there is actually a 2 day processing period for a cancellation and thus my cancellation would not go through and I will remained bill for the full month. (over $250) Additionally, he made it seem like the entire incident was my fault and was condescending throughout the entire conversation, even scoffing at me when I asked how this is my fault. He brushed me off and refused to let me speak with anyone other than him. I had to reach out to the manger and seek help from a much more helpful and competent employee, David to get help. I recommend anyone who ends up wanting to go here to direct all sales for David, as he will actually look out for you and provide a pleasant experience.

Excellent gym, I have been going there for the past year and it’s the best investment I’ve done. The gym is always clean no matter how many people are there or what time of the day it is. It’s always smiling like fresh eucalyptus which is a plus. Classes are amazing and so are the equipment and the staff. Totally recommend.

This review is overdue! I’ve been a member at Equinox for several years and wasn’t interested in a trainer until someone told me about Ariel Hau. She’s awesome, very knowledgeable, patient, sweet and very professional who will always greet you with a gregarious smile. I was impressed by her in so many ways as a young trainer. I’ve had other trainers at other gyms who wouldn’t listen and who pushed me at times to cause an injury. Just because someone has been a trainer for many years doesn’t mean they’re a good fit for you. Once you’re injured, you can’t work out and then you’re starting all over again. I hate the feeling of being trained by someone who doesn’t listen. You know your body better than anyone else. One thing about Ariel, she listens to you and pushes you but not to cause an injury. She knows what you’re capable of doing because she gets to know her clients. I loved the way she pushed me but didn’t injure me. If you tell her you can’t do something she’ll find another way to get it done. Ariel truly cares about her clients!

I don’t usually write reviews, but my experience at Equinox was amazing, especially thanks to my personal trainer, Ariel. I trained with her for 3–4 months, and she made the entire process less intimidating and helped me build a routine I could actually stick to. She took the time to understand my goals and lifestyle and created a workout plan tailored specifically to me. She's super easy to work with, outgoing, and I looked forward to our sessions because it felt like I was working out with a friend, she's amazing!

She also shared great nutrition tips that supported my progress, she’d ask what I liked to eat and then suggest healthier alternatives and even restaurant options to try. On top of that, she encouraged me to explore other classes and connected me with another amazing trainer, John, for boxing—which I really appreciated. I ended up discovering a new activity I genuinely enjoy and probably wouldn’t have tried otherwise.

Starting my fitness journey felt intimidating, but Ariel made it easy and fun. I highly recommend training with her! And big thanks to David for recommending Ariel to me, it was a perfect match!

If you’re thinking about boxing, definitely take a class with Vanessa, she’s incredible. Or book a session with John at the San Ramon location; he’s amazing! They’re both super welcoming to beginners and will teach you at whatever level you’re at. They made boxing really enjoyable.

I’ve been training with Ariel Hau for over a year now, and she is truly incredible! Her energy is always positive, and she knows exactly how to motivate me to push past my limits in the best way possible.

Ariel has taught me so much—not just about effective workouts, but also about nutrition, mindset, and creating sustainable healthy habits. Each session feels purposeful and challenging, and I always leave feeling stronger and more confident!

If you’re looking for a personal trainer who is knowledgeable, supportive, and genuinely invested in your progress, I highly recommend working with Ariel!

The front staff are nice and welcoming (Thank you Jr!) and remember you by name if you’re a regular. There is plenty of parking. The members display proper gym etiquette. Weights add re-racked, properly wiped, and friendly when you accidentally start using their machine/weights without knowing. It’s not big, but it’s cozy and people don’t hog machines.

Between Berkeley RSF (SUPER packed), 24 hour, and other gyms…I find that Equinox is the most pleasant to work out in after a long day of work. I would be nice if they add a cold plunge and sauna like Lifetime, but it’s 5/5 as is!

I used to go to Equinox gyms in NYC before Covid, and this is my first time returning to an Equinox gym since 2022.

I'm disappointed with how things have changed. The front desk team barely acknowledges members when they enter, which feels impersonal compared to the premium service I expected. The weightlifting section is notably limited - having only 3 power racks creates consistent wait times that interrupt workouts. This facility would benefit from at least doubling that number.

While this location is probably still the best option available in the East Bay, the quality doesn't match Equinox's reputation. The lack of serious competition in the area seems to have allowed standards to slip considerably. This particular gym doesn't deliver the experience that justifies Equinox's premium pricing.

The women's showers were unclean with hair, rust and old towels that were borderline brown and smelly with a low cost laundry odor. Membership advisor could care less about issues and was tired of her texting and lack of accountability for her behavior during a visit. Pushy on a membership not even worth $100/month. Amenities are lacking in quality vs. Kiehl. Equinox has changed for the worst.

I've been going here for a couple of weeks, and the staff is rude, unfriendly and unaccommodating. The gym is completely fine but not worth your money. (Update- I have spent another year here and I would say it’s more like a B+, fewer shower drain issues at least and a hard working staff) I worked out with Equinox in Marina Del Rey for 2-3 years. I can afford the gym so I just won't mention that part since it almost feels like a bias to an honest review. If you can afford it, great, if not don't. Their cancelation bullshit during COVID notwithstanding.

Anyway, this version of Equinox to me is a B-. The reasons for that grade: 1) Mostly well kept machines, some need replacing (had to switch trend mills twice this week), 2) Showers always feel like they are backing up with water (clean the drains occasionally dudes?), 3) hours are weird, LA was always open an hour later on everyday, stay open later or are you just trying to save money?, 4) when I started they asked me if I wanted the 1-1 session. I returned that email saying sure and then...nothing. Actually they did send a very standard email suggesting a Pilates session. Okay. Honestly you might have sold me on sessions, but on second thought you seem like amateurs and I don't trust the experience of your trainers if they cannot find the time to learn to communicate like adults. - Overall, not terrible.

This gym isn’t the best gym I’ve ever been to. It’s not the worst either, good selection of machines and friendly/knowledgable personal training staff among the pros. Cons are the space seems to be at capacity a lot of the time, but that’s to be expected in the popular parts of the Bay Area. Biggest con
for me, is the opening hours, it’s open 5am-9pm. Should be until 11pm for the price, considering that it would also help with crowd flow. Sometimes you just want to go to the gym with fewer people there and not at 5am

I visted the Equinox Berkeley branch as my next job may take me to the Berkeley/Oakland area. I am a 2 year member of Equinox New York/Flatiron location.

Michaela generously gave me a pass to work out. Berkeley is an excellent club. It is new, clean, well equipped with basics, has plenty of stretching room, nice architecture, a food/drinks bar, water stations, cleaning wipes, and of course, cold eucalyptus towels awaiting your in several fridges around the club.

While it is clearly 5 stars, I would just suggest that the music was a little too loud in the weights area. Maybe 95% of people are listening to their own music in their headphones, so music from the club is not really required.

Otherwise, I highly recommend Equinox. It might look expensive on the face of it, but this is your health, and if you go to your club 3 or 4 days more per month because it's a pleasant experience, it's worth every penny of that investment.

As a middle-aged woman who values quality service and is willing to invest in it, my experience with Equinox Berkeley has been deeply disappointing from the start. I have serious concerns not only about the integrity of their services but also about their record-keeping practices, particularly regarding my address and personal information.

While they offer personal training as part of the initial membership package, it is only available on weekdays, which is not practical for working professionals like myself. I wasn't able to find a suitable time during the first quarter of my membership, which I initially accepted. However, I later received an email claiming I had a session with a coach I had never met. This raised red flags about the accuracy of their reporting to management and made me question their overall integrity.

In addition to these issues, I found it difficult to connect with any of the classes. Many of the instructors seemed either rude or lacked the competency to deliver what the classes promised. For example, a "barre" class barely involved any barre work, and the yoga classes seemed more like unconventional stretching sessions. The class schedule also seemed geared towards college students, which isn't ideal for someone in my demographic. It left me feeling that my membership wasn't worth the investment, especially as younger members likely benefit from group discounts.

What further enraged my dissatisfaction was the fact that after surpassing my one-year membership anniversary, I discovered that Equinox had never updated my mailing address despite my repeated use of the mobile app. I received no email notifications about this, which meant I was completely unaware of important membership-related communications. This failure to maintain accurate records and to notify me in a timely manner added to my frustrations and undermined my confidence in their ability to manage personal information.

I had a previous membership with Equinox in 2017, and I don’t recall any such issues. However, this time, the lack of attention to detail, combined with the cold and impersonal vibe of the facility, left me with serious buyer's remorse.

Ultimately, Equinox Berkeley does not seem to cater to middle-aged professionals, and after this experience, I had no choice but to cancel my membership.

Equinox and other gyms are going to have to deal with men using the women's locker room facilities. As a woman I do not feel comfortable with men with or without male private parts in the steam room, sauna, shower area, dressing area. This club is full of men dressed as women and that is their right. It is also my right as a woman NOT to share female designated spaces with them. Women in sports are speaking out and things are changing. Gyms at some point will have to deal with this issue.

Everyone, from the trainers to the staff, are warm, welcoming, and make the gym feel like community. It’s a space that feels safe to learn in, safe to train in, and safe to push yourself in. This past year, I was fortunate enough to train with Gal Paz and it’s truly been the biggest gift. Gal is incredibly knowledgable and highly capable, but his deep level of care and attentiveness make him stand out as a trainer. He’s kind, but will push you and motivate you in a ways that feel unique to you and your goals. Speaking of goals, Gal will not only help you achieve your goals, but work with you to find new ones that you never thought were a possibility. I left every session with him feeling stronger, excited to have learnt something new, and having had a great laugh. Gal helped me find a joy in training and being at the gym that I’ve never been able to find before because he embodies that joy and playfulness himself. Berkeley Equinox is lucky to have a trainer like Gal, and, if you’re thinking about personal training, choosing to work with Gal will be one of the best decision you make!

Kind of small, but when barely anyone is paying $300/month for a gym membership then it's justified.
They have double of almost all dumbbell weights and go down to 5lbs to 110+(?). I've only gone up to 65 but I know for sure there's an 80. All the weights are also there, organized, unlike the zoo at 24 hour fitness, where the workout is you hunting for the 25s.

There are not that very many machines. Sadly, this is reminiscent of a hotel gym, even at 2 stories tall. Most of the space is just taken up by cardio machines, while another chunk is just warmup space. There are two sections of benches though, each having roughly 5 benches with dumbbells ranging from 25-80 in one area and 5-100+ in another.

Other equipment: only 2 barbell benches, 1 incline, 3 squat racks, chest press machine, shoulder press machine, leg press machine, glue kickback machine, ab and adducter machines, bicep and tricep machines, fly machine, and 2 cable machines besides the usual pulldown cage.

Steam room is kind of cold. Could use a little temperature turn up. I've been in almost all the shower stalls and they have consistent water flow, but there are panes inbetween some showers. Honestly not a huge fan because I don't want to see someone else shower, even if through a frosted glass. Towels are a hit or miss, sometimes kind of rough, sometimes soft.

Decent amount of parking, though it is kind of tight so if you suck at parking then you may have some trouble.

I really enjoy being a member at Equinox. The thing that makes it a 5/5 experience is my personal trainer Sita who does an amazing job. She has helped to demystify the gym and make it a place where I feel confident.

The cardio machines are up to date and they have a good amount of strength training equipment. They also offer a huge variety of classes from yoga, to boxing, to cycling. Other great things include the towels, sauna, and friendly staff.

Edit: 27 February, the leg press has been broken for over a month. Why are we all paying $200+ a month for broken equipment?

You'll get a membership here because you're a young professional or student who doesn't want to go to the RSF. You'll notice in the first couple weeks that there's unidentified black gunk all over the barbells, half the treadmills are missing cupholders for some reason, and there's a small army of personal trainers who are constantly loudly talking to each other and taking up space.

You'll wonder why you still come here, and then you'll remember that it is unfortunately one of the better options in Berkeley for a gym. If you have been to clubs in NY, this Equinox location is kind of a joke. No amenities whatsoever, you're basically paying to listen to the crass jokes of personal trainers all day. I saw one of them try to fight some guy the other day, no joke.

This Review is for my Personal Training experience with Aristotle Daphnis. I have complete trust in Aristotle. His instincts and wealth of knowledge create a safe container for me to push beyond my fears and step outside my comfort zone. Matching my commitment, he has lead me to regain strength and mobility that I once thought was unattainable post-injury. With his help, the support from my doctors, PEMA therapy, and a healthy lifestyle; I’ve reached this next stage of recovery, free from mobility setbacks, and a renewed focus on my potential.

I usually bite the bullet and drive another 10-15 minutes to San Ramon for a better experience. Generally speaking, I wish they’d change their weekend hours - most of
The NorCal locations close at 6pm! Please consider closing at 7pm like the Palo Alto location. An hour would make a difference on the weekends.

Today I was at the gym to get membership and before I said that I would like to get membership, I asked to use the bathroom because I was about to pee in my clothes and the employee said to me “do you have membership?” and when I replied no, he did not authorize me to use the bathroom. I was well dressed and ready to train, I was sure I would do the membership, but I preferred not to talk because the employee was inhumane. I was so sad about the lack of humanity at the gym that I gave up on becoming a member. A gym without luxuries that knows how to treat anyone who comes there is better. Today I peed on my clothes and that was inhumane! Look for other gyms that know how to treat anyone who comes there with dignity, this place doesn't deserve you spending tons of money there.

I'm disappointed with this gym.

For the past 2 weeks I ask to speak to a manager regarding an issue that I have 2 months ago. I think the manager cannot be bothered since the front desk lady said he's busy right now, she will place a feedback tho?!... I emailed the manager of the physical therapy department, manager of equinox berkeley and assistant manager multiple times and to my surprise they didn't reply...
I was promised for a refund because they charged me 140 dollars for a PT session. It's been 2 months and I still haven't have an update.

I would have appreciated IF someone gives me a call or at least reply to my email.

Truly disappointing.. Customer service is a NO for me.

Update: After posting this review, someone got in touch with me the next day and apparently I was refunded a month ago 🙃 lol. Well, thank you! Communication could've been better to avoid this frustration.

Equinox is the worst company ever, do not go to this gym. I was in a car accident 2 months ago and cannot workout, due to physical injury. I sent them a copy of my physical therapy referral, doctors note and proof of the accident and lawyer info. They still refuse to cancel my membership because there isn’t “proof my injury is significant enough” unless I have a doctors note stating specifically I cannot go to equinox.

NEVER sign up for them. You’ll be stuck in your membership even if you’re in a car accident and in severe muscle pain constantly. I cannot even believe them, horrific customer service

I had a horrible experience at Equinox in Berkeley. I came to the facility on June 20th around 8pm. The front desk agent informed me that no one would be in to tour with me until tomorrow. He instructed me to come back to the facility tomorrow to tour. I followed his instructions and came back to the facility at noon today. The front desk agent asked me to take a seat, in order to get Alisa to tour with me. She came out of her office, and walked past me without even saying one word. She finally came back, and stated that she would give me a tour. The tour was extremely rushed. She did the most minimal work and any time that I asked a question, she seem annoyed.

Since I am a traveling nurse, I only needed a membership for one month. She stated that the cost would be $310.00. I told her since I was new to the area, that I wanted to take a second to look at some other gyms before making my selection.

I arrived back to Equinox to open an account about two hours later. I approached the front desk agent again, and asked to speak with Alisa. Before she could go find her, she came from around the corner, looked at me, and completely ignored me. I said hi to her, and she completely ignored me, and continued working on the electronic in front of her. The front desk agent noticed that she ignored me, and tried to get her attention and tell her that I was trying to get her attention. He stated, “she said she was looking for you”. She continued to look down at whatever she was doing, and said, “yeah, I have a tour” continuing to completely ignore my existence in front of her.  I asked the front agent if I could  speak with a manager. Alisa popped up from what she was doing, as if that was the only thing she heard, and took off smirking and said, I’ll go get her”. She came back to the front, didn’t look my way, and proceeded to help the people that had just walked in, ignoring me once again.

The treatment was very discriminatory and unfortunate. At a facility that would charge me $300+ for one month, it is a shame that they can not even have representative that uphold the five star quality that they broadcast. Then, Alisa quoted me $310.00, but the manager quoted me a completely higher price. It is really disappointing that Equinox would allow this type of discriminatory behavior.

i purchased a 12 week personal trainer pack with equinox, and i see my trainer Rachel 3 times a week. i LOVE her! she is amazing for anyone who wants to grow their glutes, get stronger overall, and usually struggles with form. my first couple of weeks I was wobbly and had no stamina, but she was so patient with me and gave me amazing pep talks that kept me going. her instructions on getting into perfect form are so easy to understand and remember, and you feel yourself targeting the exact muscles you should be, which has always been the hardest part for me. and you WILL isolate those glutes - i have yet to see a video/tiktok/article about the best glute workouts and see a workout rachel hasn’t incorporated into my routine. (we of course target all sorts of other muscles but we all know glutes is most important) my main goal in getting a personal trainer was to have someone to keep me accountable, show me how to stay in perfect form, push me to go further, and help quell my anxiety about going to the gym and Rachel did all that. cannot recommend this particular equinox enough, mainly because of Rachel!

I've had nothing but positive experiences at this well-appointed club. The staff, equipment, classes, facilities / amenities, and parking – everything is top-tier. The energy is good with diverse and down-to-earth people. I really appreciate that people here, including staff, are authentic and low-key. Shout out to my highly knowledgable, effective, and fun personal trainer Gal Paz. Grateful to this place and everyone that makes it somewhere I want to be 3-4 times per week.

The last time i was here, I had all my belongings stolen from a closed locker, pants + jacket + backpack + wallet. They did nothing about this.

I've paid the Initiation fee + 2 months in the past.

Today Alyssa would not allow me to pay for 1 month and demanded I pay a minimum of 2 months, in addition, and she would not allow me to speak to anyone higher up about this matter.

This location and Alyssa only care about their commission and have done nothing to care for their customers, regardless of how atrocious their past experience has been, even after spoon feeding them commission.

Group fitness classes are saving my life big time. I bow and give gratitude to all Instructors. Be prepared to work, expect to see transformational results, and if you’re like me who was raised and exposed to the YMCA ways of building and maintaining a safe and healthy community … it’s been that place for me. I love, appreciate, and worship my body for what it does for me thanks to these classes and the wonderful Instructors that lead them. I believe there is something for all walks of life here. I found my community here, my sanctuary, my safe place. I come on my worst days and leave ready to take on the world by the neck, untouchable with might. From Front Desk Attendants, to Advisors, to Maintenance and Cleaning Crew-Members, to Instructors, to Personal Training gurus. The Berkeley location stands out, with consistency. It deserves the praise and visibility because …. I can’t wait until it’s time to get ready and head over for a class. It’s what I look forward to, as hard as it is. It encourages faith, discipline, focus. The rest is what you make of it.

She is a true partner in helping me level-up my overall health bc of her remarkable focus, engagement and committment to my health and fitness goals. I see the results in more than my body ... she has encouraged a major shift in my mindset and approach to my daily life. I am stronger, moving with more confidence and ease in every way and more aligned with my goals than ever before. Tina is a gem of a human and a gifted trainer for anyone looking for real transformation in mind, body, and spirit! Bonus is she has awesome energy and is great fun to be around.

I want to preface with that there is nothing inherently wrong with this gym BUT- upon getting my membership, I was super excited to work out here. I wanted to pay top dollar because I had assumed it'd be more of an exclusive experience. If you have social anxiety...do not go here. The gym (no matter what time of day) is packed. Most popular machines will indeed be taken or will be crowded in particular spots. They have the entire place filled with trainers at all times. To me, it just never felt comfortable and I always felt out of place. Maybe it's an issue of taking too many memberships on or having upwards of 5-10 trainers there constantly but for me it was never worth it. I immediately regretted buying into the year plan. I ended up getting a second membership at Planet Fitness and say what you will but I love it there. There are times when the gym is empty- it's way more spacious and the hours are way better. To pay $210 just to have a gym close at 7:00pm every night is insanity....actually (they've changed their hours til 8 but that is still absolutely ridiculous). Also you get ONE single guest pass (yup that's it) at Equinox and I can bring as many guests as I like to PF on any given day. I did love their Pilates and Yoga classes so if you're into that, I'd say give it a try because the cost may be worth it if you go enough. Also I did have some one on ones with two trainers and they were absolutely lovely people and always incredibly friendly, but the gyms need to push you into buying training sessions is a bit much. This is just a matter of preference and besides the hours and gym traffic, if you're someone who is already seasoned and goes to the gym regularly, maybe it'd be worth it. But as someone who just goes to the gym simply to move my body and has no regimen...this is a terrible place to start so hopefully I'm just the dumb guinea pig to this experiment haha. I hope this helps anyone out that was curious.

I truly loved this gym for its great ambiance, state of the art equipment and amazing classes. For those of you questioning whether you should join or not, PLEASE DO!!! The facility is always clean, it smells nice, instructors are extremely professional and the front desk staff are truly amazing. I appreciate Sydney for her outstanding customer service, and I applaud her quick response to all member suggestions/concerns/inquiries. The front desk staff made sure to always foster an environment that was welcoming, safe, and comfortable. My absolute favorites were Kamya, Connie, Sierra and Emielyn, they are always ready to help you! If you are searching for a great coach who is approachable, professional, and knows what he is doing please book Coach Ian. Ian offers great insight that is science-based and that will help you reach your goals, he is also great with therapeutic approaches if you happen to have any physical limitations. The cleaning staff were also phenomenal human beings who possess a profound attention to detail and ensure the gym facility is always clean! My overall experience and impression is a 10/10. Even on its busiest days, Equinox Berkeley is never unbearably packed like other gym facilities. Sydney does an amazing job supervising and managing the gym as a whole, so if you want to join I suggest you reach out to her effective immediately! (:

Extremely clean, not overly crowded, and the equipment is in good condition. The classes are great, led by very effective and encouraging teachers. My favorite thing about this gym is that they have everything you need. In the locker rooms they have towels, tampons & pads, mouthwash, hair ties, nice shampoo/conditioner/body & face wash in the showers, vanities with lotions, hairspray, cotton swabs, deodorant, etc. Plus the lockers have built in combo locks. Just show up with your shoes and you'll be good to go. It's a luxury gym so it's more expensive than most, but to me it's worth it if I can afford it because I know I'll always be comfortable and more likely to want to go.

I’ve been a member at Equinox Berkeley since 2019 and always had a very positive experience there. I first came into Equinox and spoke with Brook, a membership advisor, about joining. Brook was extremely personable and was able to answer all my initial questions about joining. He made me feel super confident about the decision to join and continues to always make a point to say hi to me whenever I come in. Definitely speak with Brook about joining if you’re thinking about it! The gym itself is great and extremely clean, which has become increasingly important throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Workout rooms, locker rooms, and equipment are constantly wiped down by the cleaning staff (they’re really amazing!) making me feel safe while working out. The locker rooms are definitely as nice as everyone says — you may end up liking the showers there more than at your home hahaha. Equinox provides Kiehl’s products for members to use in the showers and afterwards (lotions and such). While the Equinox Berkeley location is on the smaller side, it has most of the equipment you would want. This location also has an Earth Bar in house for post workout protein smoothies that are delicious. While the amenities at Equinox Berkeley are fantastic, the best part of the gym is the staff! As I mentioned, Brook made me feel so welcome in the beginning and the majority of the Equinox’s team has continued to make me feel that way. I’d highly recommend training with Kristi (athletic conditioning in particular) and/or Omar (especially for boxing). I’ve had experience training with both trainers and they’re both really knowledgeable and fun to talk to! Before working with Kristi, I could barely figure out my way around a gym (exclusively used cardio machines, yikes) and i now feel confident making my own workouts using gym equipment. Boxing with Omar has been great — not only has he helped make me feel stronger, but I’ve also never had a session where I didn’t laugh hysterically (he makes working out so fun I swear). Overall, I’d highly recommend getting a membership at Equinox (I promise it’s worth the price!). But at the very least definitely check it out if you’re thinking about it :)

It's a very well maintained, spacious gym that has all the equipments and weights that you would need. They have really set the standard when it comes to maintenance. The team is working constantly across the whole facility, making sure every nook and corner is spanking clean and fresh. The membership team is very friendly. The gym gets busy only in the evenings, between 5 to 7. But not too busy that you will be waiting hours in line for machines or weights. Parking is available, but can involve a bit of a wait if turning up during peak hours. The group classes are good. I wish use of the pilates reformer was included in the membership. This particular branch does not have any sports courts or a swimming pool. The closest comparable alternate in terms of pricing is the BayClub. But they don't have a facility in this area.

I'm lifting heavier weights and more reps. I know I'm stronger, but I need to stretch more before and after.

Since I am at this location everyday, I've gotten to know many of the trainers. I noticed one In particular, Amanda Radich, working out. She's a beast! She was a collegiate soccer player and left the corporate life to become a fitness trainer. Amanda is very kind and is helpful answering questions I may have. In fact, all of the trainers here are supportive.

Amanda had casually given me suggestions for mobility, cardio, and nutrition from time to time. I decided to spend a 1/2 session with her to focus on mobility.

We spent more than 1/2 hour with stretching exercises. She also gave me advice on nutrition and cardio. I told her I was off to Las Vegas. Amanda gave me ideas on how to train while on travel.

After four days of eating everything and following her healthy tips while in Sin City, I was back in the gym and weighted myself first thing. I actually lost a pound!

We had a good laugh today about it. Who goes to Vegas and loses weight? If you are looking to aspire to be better, I heartily endorse Amanda. She's a Tier 3 level trainer (the tops) and will get you motivated to put the work in! I absolutely adore Amanda and the work ethic she brings everyday.

They charged the monthly fee on November without sending any email about reopening at middle of the quarantine. Although, I am not able to workout with a mask due to my medical condition and have an evidence of my illness, and it took me more than a month to get refund after calling them 20 times!! And this month, end of April the same thing happened! They charged again even though my account is frozen. They still don’t refund the transaction. I already called them 6 times, but I always hear the same excuses like they say that the account manager is not in the office, they will call me back, but they never come back to me and I have to call them again! There is no result.... They are not professional at all! + It is not ethical for them to withdraw money from my bank account without providing information even though I explained my medical condition 6 months ago!!

Gym was clean and well stocked, but spin class room doesn't have any ventilation or fans (that instructors use, at least) so people with health issues may have great risk taking classes. My biggest complaint, however, is that upon moving across the country, I called three times to cancel my membership. Each time an employee told me that they would put it in my file and that a manager would email me to cancel. Nothing ever happened. It's been about a month now and I'm at my wits end to avoid getting charged $170 a month when I don't live there anymore. I've heard at least 3 other members who quit had the same problem —they tried to quit and Equinox kept charging them month after month. This place definitely steals your money. Be very careful before signing a membership offer as it seems to be a lifetime commitment, with charges that increase yearly.

There are so many things wrong with this place it is impossible to justify the cost. The customer service is a joke people are so unhelpful it’s infuriating. When we signed up there no one mentioned it was a one year contract which of course was a problem since I had planned to move. Also all the credit they offered at sign up only came after I asked about it and emailed the manager. The place is clean but it is very small and gets crowded fast. The hours are awful and I wondered sometimes if they are there to serve me or if I was just paying them all that money for the privilege to be a part of their elite club. From every point of view this place was a bad experience aside from the cleanliness of the facilities.

Generally happy with the gym (equipment, classes, etc.) but surprised and disappointed that the showers and toilets in the women’s locker room are not cleaner. I think the gym could really benefit from additional locker room help to ensure the toilets are clean, stocked with toilet paper and the showers are cleaned of hair and other debris more regularly. I tend to come to the gym following the early morning rush (i.e., between 9 and noon) and have been frequently disappointed by the level of cleanliness in the women’s showers and toilets. Not the quality I expect from Equinox and its prices. I have hesitated to recommend the gym to others looking to join a gym due to these locker room cleanliness issues but think these issues could be easily addressed with additional employees in the locker room if the management is committed to providing the highest quality space to its members.

We showed up at this gym to get a guest pass to try it out and were told the only way we could try the gym is if we were to meet with someone and then come back a day later. When we got to the door there was a woman with black hair cleaning the door and I wasn’t sure if it was the enterance which I told her and she blatantly ignored what I was saying. Not only that but the entire staff was condescending and rude. At this point I’m not sure what’s worse, the people working there or their marketing. I’m sure this is a nice gym but it’s just another environment where I’d rather be at a gym that’s cheaper and filled with nice people instead of the type of environment that this gym had. Lastly, they said that the only way you can sign up is for a year contract so if you’re looking for a long term commitment with terrible customer service and an okay gym filled with meek looking lifters, go ahead.

I switched over from the Marina location to Berkeley almost a year ago and am so happy I did so. The facility and equipment are top notch but it's the staff that make it worth going to honestly. Coming from the stuffy marina gym to Berkeley was so refreshing to feel genuinely welcome. It's a place I actually want to spend time in rather than hurry and get out of. Gyms can be gross and germ infested (germaphobe here) but the cleaning staff really take care of everything so well! The locker room is always stocked and mopped and spotless. The kids room is great, it was my daughters favorite part of the day. But it's an additional fee which gets pricey if I were to bring her everyday.
Overall it is expensive compared to other gyms but the membership price is worth it to me considering how immaculately clean it's kept, how relaxed and open it is, and that they provide shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, tampons, pads, qtips, hairspray, deodorant, towels, chilled eucalyptus towels, facial moisturizer, hair ties and razors... 🙏🏽🙌🏽
