I was an Equinox member in San Francisco for two years. After relocating to San Diego for work, I came in trying to switch here. The front-desk associate with black hair displayed no personality whatsoever: she was rude, standoffish, and delivered a deadpan stare devoid of emotion—an interaction that felt genuinely eerie. I never experienced that at my club in SF.

Honestly, I bet her co-workers probably know exactly who I’m talking about.

I seriously question what the hiring manager was thinking by placing her in a customer-facing role. I no longer live close enough to visit regularly (the only Equinox in San Diego is 35 minutes away). Just very weird! Will not be returning.

Instructors are exceptional: 5 stars!!! The facilities are on par with LOW cost clubs. Some equipment needs replacement: eg 50% of spin bikes routinely DO NOT work properly.

I do personal training with Madi D and ADORE her! She pushes and motivates me while keeping the workouts fun. If
you have an opportunity to train with Madi do not miss it!! The gym itself is clean, staff are friendly, and the coaches are constantly walking around, re-racking weights, and available if you have questions.

I came this morning to try the gym for the first time and was not allowed inside because there was no manager present. I even offered to pay for a one-day pass, but that was rejected as well. I’ve never had such a bad experience — usually when you visit a new gym, you are welcomed and encouraged to join, not turned away.

Had an exceptional experience in the spa with Amy! Multiple people complimented me on how my skin looked over the next few days, and her recommendation on follow-up care has had huge effect. Just an extraordinary upgrade for my skin and self care, thank you again :-)

I come to the gym all the time but last month was my first time at the spa. Amy was wonderful! She explained everything she was doing and made sure each step was right for my skin type. She was so kind, professional, and made me feel completely comfortable the whole time. My skin feels amazing—can’t wait to come back!

I’ve always wanted to try Equinox and was excited to visit while in town since there isn’t one where I live. I booked a tour online which I assumed (incorrectly) was a day pass. I got an email asking if I actually booked it, not warm, seemingly annoyed.

Confused, I called to ask about guest passes, both the tone of both the email and the phone interaction felt unwelcoming. I was told the only way to get in was to buy a spa service, and that “the cheapest one is $100,” said in a way that came off as presumptive and dismissive. I gave this feedback on the phone and was told the person I talked to was new and that’s why it happened. The email I received was from Melanie, I’m not sure who I spoke to on the phone. The woman was kind enough, the man was rude.

I completely understand the members-only policy and don’t mind the pricing. it was the delivery that turned me off. As someone who’s worked in luxury onboarding, I was surprised by how poorly the interaction was handled. I was about to book a service, but honestly, first impressions matter, and this one missed the mark.

I signed up with Melanie Sagan, "Senior Membership," and she is so cold and impersonable! I spent over 30-minutes with her during the initial tour and she seemed very unenthusiastic and indifferent. And since then, she doesn't even offer a nod of acknowledgment or a smile when she sees me in the gym. Front desk staff and trainers are very approachable. Melanie's unfriendliness is disappointing.

The gym is small and doesn't have a lot of equipment (just the basics) nor amenities, especially for the price. If there was another luxury gym nearby I'd probably leave.

The positives: it is very clean and well-maintained. There are coaches available to stretch you, which is great!

Equinox is a great gym with great staff. I always felt welcome and comfortable, which is especially important to me as a heavy guy. The facilities are clean, and I’ve never had to wait long for any equipment. The locker room is clean and well appointed. The classes are well instructed, welcoming, and beneficial. I highly encourage anyone thinking of joining a luxury gym to join Equinox.

There are two standouts for me personally:

I had the opportunity to train under Marissa Perry, and the experience was nothing short of phenomenal. From the in person coaching to the personally tailored training program, and the clear communication throughout the whole experience. Marissa is knowledgeable, personable accommodating, and motivating. Through her program, I built 10 lbs of lean body mass in just 6 weeks, gained flexibility, strength, and confidence in my ability.

I also had the privilege of receiving a longevity facial from Amy in the on site spa (no membership required to visit the spa (I think, don’t quote me)) and she was also very kind, welcoming, and knowledgeable. This was my first experience with any spa treatment, and she explained the process fully in a way that was easily understood by someone fully ignorant of all things skincare. The facial itself was calming and enlightening, and I feel grateful to have had the experience.

Please check out the gym, the personal training, and the spa, it is well worth your time.

I’ve been getting facials with Amy for the past couple of months, and she is absolutely incredible. She came highly recommended by multiple people, and now I see why—she’s completely transformed my very sun-damaged skin. Amy is not only extremely knowledgeable but also genuinely caring. I 10/10 recommend her to anyone looking for a facial that’s truly tailored to your skin’s needs.

Equinox is an incredible top of the line gym you will want to experience. All the staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. The gym is immaculately kept. Fresh towels all the time for the body and face in the gym area. The locker room is super nice. Great showers with essentials provided. Sick steam room. Super clean everywhere. Amazing equipment. Great machines. Great free weight section. Great squat bar section. Lots of cardio space and different equipment. And the classes included in the membership are sick and add a lot of value.

If you are into pilates or wanna give it a try Chelsea is amazing, fun, knowledgeable, super friendly, and peppy! And she'll push you!

And if you want an incredible massage I highly recommend Kate Fernandez!

She’s sooo good at giving massages. Gets out all the knots! Super sweet and easy to talk to, and makes me feel comfortable. I know the gym is expensive but its worth every penny if you can afford it :-)

I’ve been a member for over a year and it’s worth the hype and the price. Everyone is so nice and welcoming. I just tried the spa (yes there’s a spa) and Amy completely transformed my skin after one hydrafacial. She’s super knowledgeable and so kind. She helped me figure out what works for me and my skin type and what I should avoid. No complaints :)

Staff is very nice & helpful. Classy crowd; not many young college kids which is good. Crowd is mostly 30’s-50’s and focused at the gym, which I like. Equipment and locker rooms are clean. There is a steam room, but really wish there was a dry sauna too. I came from the Equinox Sports Club location in Irvine so I was spoiled because that location was absolutely huge and had everything you could possibly imagine, and that location is my comparison, but overall this location is good. Def best gym in North County San Diego. Management, if you see this, great job, and also please, please, I’m begging you —don’t get rid of the last Arc trainer cardio machine there is! I would be devastated lol

I just got a lash lift, tint, and brow lamination with Amy, and it was incredible. She’s gentle and thorough, and my lashes look incredible- there isn’t really a need for mascara, but now it feels like the mascara does more than it did before. My brows, which usually look like cousins, look closer to twins than they have (probably ever).

I have been utilizing the Spa at Equinox now for several months and the quality of service is exceptional! I see Kate Fernandez for massage therapy. She has helped me feel so much better and is always a joy to see. I highly recommend all of her services but, personally, really enjoy her trigger-point therapy and Swedish massage. I look forward to every visit with her!
I see Amy Adams for facials and waxing services. She is phenomenal. She has my skin glowing and if she sees a problem areas with my skin, she comes up with a solution to resolve it. She will make you feel comfortable and relaxed the whole time.
*note- the spa is open to the public and is not just for members!

I have been a member of many an Equinox, locations and gyms. This is by far the friendliest and most helpful gym. The trainers are professional, desk staff can capably medical freeze, restarting and billing. The actual gym is a giant floor with huge windows overlooking hills and greenery with natural sun. Locker rooms have been clean and ample. The steam rooms are decently hot. Towels aren’t a mess, the gym never seems too full however there are definitely rushes.
Lastly the machines and equipment are in perfect working order, and the side rooms are huge with beautiful views. I’m sure you will love this place, even as a visitor.

My skin has never looked this good. A plus is the spa is open to the public. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to Amy’s services.

The Pros; The staff and trainers are ex exceptional. The floor and locker rooms are clean and what you would expect for a gym like Equinox. My wife attends the classes and has great things to say about them and the instructors.

The Bad; Dues have increased 4 times since 2020 and there is 1 new machine to show for it. Recently an entire set of kettle bells was removed, leaving 1 set for the entire gym floor. Kiehl's was replaced. The floor was reorganized for a better flow which completely removed 1 of 2 open floor spaces leaving the far side of the gym overcrowded during peak hours. No recovery amenities (theragun, cold plunge, etc). Several gyms throughout San Diego at a much lower price point offer all of these. No kids club anymore.

I’ll start the review by saying that this is the top luxury gym in Carlsbad. The staff and clientele are all great people!

However, Equinox knows they are the only luxury gym in north county and management takes full advantage of having no competition in the area. In the last two years they have added only one new machine, removed the Kiehls and recently debuted a new set up which makes the gym feel even more crowded during peak hours.

Members consistently complete surveys saying the same reoccurring themes that go unanswered:
⁃ Remove the majority of the elliptical machines by the windows to create extra space for working out. Add more machines in this area, there are 5x the machines at the 24 hour fitness in Carlsbad.
⁃ Reopen the kids club! You have the space and we pay for this as part of our dues (which increase every year). At a bare minimum this should be open on the weekends. Even trainers state that the biggest set backs they have with getting their clients in more consistently for sessions is the fact most of them need to find child care to come work out. Reopen the kids club and it’s a win/win for members and staff.
⁃ Add more amenities. Other luxury gyms in San Diego like FIT have added multiple cold plunges at their facility, in addition to the steam and sauna. The spa here goes mostly unused and can be converted into a recovery type area.

Again the staff here are the best and it’s a great gym that I go to every day. The above are easy fixes which I hope will be seriously taken into consideration given the premium monthly rate the members pay.

Overall, Equinox La Costa is a solid gym experience, especially thanks to its exceptional staff and cleanliness. The employees are always friendly, attentive, and ready to help, which really elevates the environment. The gym itself is spotless, with equipment and facilities that are consistently well-maintained.

However, for the premium price, there are some areas where Equinox falls short. Given the high monthly fees, I was expecting a wider range of amenities. It feels like there’s a lack of variety and innovation in what’s offered compared to other high-end gyms. On top of that, it seems like member feedback isn’t taken as seriously as it should be. With little competition in Carlsbad, Equinox doesn’t seem to prioritize incorporating customer suggestions or addressing common concerns.

I think Equinox could greatly improve by listening to its members more actively and adding more amenities to justify the cost. It’s a great gym, but with a few changes, it could be even better.

More amenities and lifting machines would only cost peanuts to the owners, so it is extremely frustrating to have dues constantly go up and see nothing new in the gym.

Lastly, my wife would like the kids club to be reopened so she can come back. Thanks

Gym is very minimally equipped with basic equipment and weights. I caught COVID 2 in last month and a half spending time in Sauna. When I went to cancel my membership I was told to call back to talk to management then told that I would get a call back within 2 days. I never received a call back so I called back again and was told the same thing. I waited another two days and received no call and called back again and told them I wanted to speak to management and explained what happened, in the meantime my credit card was charged again for the next month. When I spoke to manager Liz she told me I could not cancel without providing You can provide any of the following
1. a utility bill with your name and new address on it (Within the last 30 days)
2. Bank Statement with your name and new address on it (Please black out any sensitive information)
3. Lease agreement, with your name and new address within the last 30 days.

The membership advisor who I signed up with told me that it would be no problem to cancel at any time based on my traveling for work often, I told him that I travel a lot and would be traveling to Europe for 4 months. I feel he was not honest with me and Liz was not very helpful with cancellation and refusing to refund for the next month charge even though I contacted Equinox initially before my card was charged for next month, I am out of San Diego and have to pay for August when I have no way to use the gym since I’m out of town, totally unacceptable. Not a way to take care of customers in my opinion.

I joined this gym about two months ago and I am so happy that I did as it has been a life-changing experience.

When I originally joined I was not sure if I wanted to do personal training, but after my consult with my trainer Will, I was SOLD! From the beginning of our conversations, Will took an extremely personalized approach to my training and really listened to what my fitness and nutrition goals were . During our personal training sessions, he would always ensure good form and safety. Will is a true professional which is huge, being a female client, comfortability and respect of boundaries are extremely important in this dynamic. During our training session there was always great communication about difficulty of workout sets and adjustments were made as needed. It doesn't get more personalized than that! I always left my workouts feeling AMAZING and STRONG. Will was extremely organized and always kept track of our sessions and weights. He always showed up on time for our sessions which shows great dependability and consistency.

I have attempted personal training in the past but this is the first time I truly felt like I was seeing results and progress in my training. I really enjoyed the recovery aspects involved before and after the session such as warming up and stretching. That is KEY to true muscle recovery and progress.

Personal training is an investment and can be expensive, but it was worth every penny I spent. If you are looking for an amazing personal trainer at Equinox, Will is your guy!

I’ve had an equinox membership previously at the West Hollywood location & after almost 2 years of not being a member I unfortunately now find myself at the La costa location…so far, I’ve been to one yoga class & it was jammed pack (not ideal) haven’t cared to try the other classes yet. There’s limited workout machines! Making the wait times long during peak hours & the machines they do have are all outdated! I’ve definitely been to way less expensive gyms with far superior equipment. 3 stair masters broken one day also all old and outdated. Sometimes it feels like I’m working out at a 24 hour fitness… when I signed up I used my friend as a referral & we both got the referral credit of $100 which the sales rep told me would be able to be applied to the snack bar, the shop or towards my monthly bill but when I told the guy at the front desk about it the first time he said he’d let “them” know and “they’d” get back to me (“they” never got back to me) I asked about it a whole month later and the lady tells me at the front desk that it must have been a miscommunication & that they don’t do use referral credits towards the snack bar or monthly bill 😑 k cool. Showers are clean, locker rooms are clean and walls are aesthetically pleasing.

Nice club with a very simple, open floor plan. If it’s not busy, there’s plenty of equipment. But if it’s peak time, it can be difficult to get the weights or the equipment you want. Aside from squat racks, dumbbells and bench presses, there’s only one of each machine.

The club and the locker room was spotless as you would expect. Kiel’s amenities. Nice clean-smelling steam room. Plenty of classes that looked popular and well attended.

Just another typical excellent (but a bit small) Equinox club. I’d rather have fewer choices and a beautiful club, than a massive gym that smells like ripe pits and has fungus growing in the locker room.

Speaking exclusively to the spa and the best facial experience I've had in San Diego, Amy Adams eclipses the best of the best around. She has a huge working knowledge of both modern tech and tools as well as old techniques like Gua Sha and lymphatic drainage, and implements both in her facials. I'd post a before and after, but I'm too embarassed by the before! She thoroughly explained every step and every treatment she was using, and the result was uncongested, glowy skin and got rid of all the puffiness around my eyes! And I had a nice set of cheekbones visible after she did some lymph drainage on my face! She is so lovely - can't recommend enough

My biggest regret of 2022 is joining this gym. I was injured by an instructor and have been in pain every day since. A restorative yoga instructor (of all things!) dug her hand into my foot while I was stretching...I've never had a yoga adjustment like this ever. I was diagnosed with a nerve injury along the same metatarsal I previously had surgery on. My foot has not bothered me in years and now I have foot pain (and knee pain due to my gait being off) every day and can no longer exercise/move like I used to.

To be physically injured all because I showed up to a restorative yoga class....such a freaking joke. Equinox should reduce the class offerings rather than have unqualified instructors like Jessie Wren allowed to teach. I had to pay for an x-ray & doctors appointment (plus there will be future follow-up expenses because it's been months and still not better). Let alone the cost on my health and well-being that Equinox claims to care about. I was allowed to cancel my membership and got a refund for that month, but that does not make up in the slightest to have my health and fitness compromised.

Very disappointed.. I left a pair of AirPods there when the gym was closing one night… confirmed they were in the exact spot I left them at 6:00am the next morning (less than 10 hours of turnaround time). They asked me where in the gym I had left them so I could prove they were mine, and they confirmed that is indeed where they were found. Because I work full time and can’t get to the gym when the GM, Greg, is there, I asked them to hold them for me until I could make it in. Once again, that was confirmed. Walk in Monday morning to hear he had given them away to someone else who had “claimed them,” even though they were already established as mine. When I explained the situation, he basically implied people check for AirPods all the time, and that they connected to their phone (they can connect to anyone’s phone??). So I had called multiple times over the course of a couple of days to just hold my AirPods until I could make it in, just for them to be given away. He was extremely rude and would not help rectify the situation.
Update: The owner who reached out to me with an email address has not responded to any email in over 2 weeks. The response is just for show.

I went to check out this gym for the first time last week. Work pays for my gym membership, so I figured why not get myself something nice. Given the price point, I expected really nice equipment and facility. I was very surprised to see all of the gym equipment seemed to be 15-20 years old, and the gym itself was much smaller than I expected. I would explain the equipment as truly "the basics" with no frills involved. Was not a good fit for someone like myself, who usually spends most of their time using the equipment and not attending classes. That aside, the bathrooms appeared nice, and I have heard the classes are good, although I did not attend a class. If you are a person who relies on classes, this may be a good fit. Overall, I would recommend the gym get new equipment, including some odds and ends that you don't always see. Then, maybe put some art like a mural on one of the walls to give it a bit of uplifting decor. For now, I will stick to the EOS by my house, I guess.

This is by far my favorite gym. The yoga is on point. The space is beautiful. The front desk staff is very friendly and the instructors are high level. I highly recommend Zach Fiocca’s Cycle Power class. You will get a power workout and have an equal amount of fun.

Not a fan of this gym. I joined and soon realized I was stuck going there because of a strict one year contract. It was money wasted because I hated the feel inside amd barely went. I prefer lifetime fitness in La Jolla. Much better equipment, staff & gym itself. I understand joining if it’s convenient but seriously driving to La Jolla for a much better quality gym and NO contract is 100% worth it.

Basically Poverty Equinox. I came here when travelling, have been to about a dozen Equinox locations across the US. This is probably the least well-equipped of any Equinox I've been to. It's not AWFUL, but god forbid if you pay anything close to real Equinox rates for what feels like a less-crowded Gold's Gym.

Love this place.
After doing CrossFit for 2 years I was ready for something new. Equinox has it all, rowers, bikes, treadmills, free weights, barbells, boxes, medicine balls, benches, machines, hot yoga, spin classes, personal training and the amenities are top level. Hot eucalyptus towels, super clean locker rooms, a steam room with a cold shower inside.

Crazy that’s it’s cheaper than my old CrossFit spot.

Awesome Equinox gym. All round friendly staff and members super low key. Facility well maintained and men’s changing room facilities super clean and orderly. Probably my fave all Equinox locations in So Cal.

One of the worst customer service experiences. I went there 3 times to check the gym out and join and there has been no one to help. Just over it won’t be back

Appears to be a very nice gym from the entrance however, because the manager refused to allow me to photograph the interior and wouldn't talk to me, I have no choice but to give a one-star review. The young man at the front desk was polite but the manager never came out from behind a wall that he was obviously right behind. I explained politely I was a Google reviewer and it was to their benefit. Instead of being welcomed I was asked to leave. I have to say I was shocked. I have been given tours of every resort in southern California including several 5 star resorts. Those resorts not only allowed pictures but encouraged me to take photos.. Terranea resort, La Costa resort & Spa, Aviara four seasons & the Grand Hotel which is the only five star resort in San Diego. But, evidently Equinox gym is just too exclusive..Ha! If you like a snooty and very expensive gym this is the place for you. equinox management take note.. you missed an opportunity for a great review!

Equinox La Costa is a really nice, high-end fitness facility. Like most gyms today it is filled with lots of completely unnecessary large footprint equipment that is underutilized by the vast majority of people, but which without people would think the gym was not as high as a caliber location. Of course, there are the standard free weights as well as the opportunity to engage in a variety of classes and other non-standard activities such as animal flow, kettlebell training, Etc

Beautiful gym, incredibly clean. The OCD athlete's dream. You could probably eat off the floors. Yoga is all beginner classes, leaves much to be desired. Won't replace your Core Power membership.

If you enjoy a gym where you can get a great workout and have the creature comforts of a spa, this is the gym for you. Clean, professional and most of all no waiting for the use of equipment. I was offered a free day to work out - Fantastic -
