LOVED IT HERE, I ultimately didn't sign up but out of all gyms I tried this one was amazing. The layout was abstract but actually such a vibe, the class schedule was huge, and I don't think I've ever taken a better shower in my life. For 300$ I think more amenities would justify the price but if you're taking enough classes it pays for itself.

Equinox has been there for me since day one and I truly love this place feels like a small community feels like family feels like everybody’s connected together with Fitness with lifestyle etc. but this morning I had a mild bad experience with a front desk guy name Cameron super arrogant cocky mispronouncing my name I had to repeat my name to him like 4-5 times telling me to slow down left me confused, That a place like Equinox wouldn’t have people low-key making fun of other’s peoples name please, Equinox corporate look into this person, gladly appreciate it

The gym itself is nice and this post is mostly about an instructor. The gym is a bit dated. I like the classes but sometimes you will come across instructors which make you rethink your membership. Ian Cahir will close the door if you are 1 minute late as he has a “5 min cutoff” which is not mentioned anywhere. The kicker is the entire room full of mats is more than half empty! Equinox needs to realize that everyone has busy lives and making it to the gym given everything is already hard. Instead of making it easy for members to workout and enjoy the classes instructors like Ian make it seem like you have missed an important deadline! Sorry but I don’t need stress from my gym.

Raymond at Equinox is truly exceptional. From the moment I started the membership process, he went above and beyond to make sure everything went smoothly. He didn’t just help me register—he supported me every step of the way, even after I became a member. No matter what day or time I reached out, Raymond responded promptly and respectfully.

His level of care and attention is what every customer service experience should be. If I had to name one reason why I’m committed to staying with Equinox, it’s Raymond. He’s a total star, and Equinox is lucky to have him!

I don’t believe your gym is worth even half of its price. You market yourselves as a premium gym, but your equipment is not premium and isn’t well-maintained. Your gym is not suitable for bodybuilders due to your ridiculous rules.

Love the staff, the top notch equipment, classes, and lockers. Unfortunately it’s almost always full. This means you’re often waiting for machines or for space to stretch. To be fair, that’s probably the case in most non- private gyms. Other than that I have had a great experience with the trainers, teachers, and staff and do recommend this location.

The gym is nice, but the upper-level management is dishonest and unprofessional. After cancelling my membership, Equinox continued to withdraw monthly dues from my bank account without my authorization. After alerting the upper-level management to the problem, I expected that they would immediately refund. Not only did they fail to reimburse the wrongfully withdrawn funds, but they continued to attempt to make withdrawals from my bank account. I have had to file a lawsuit because of this fiasco. Avoid the inconvenience and the hassle and go to another gym; I am sure you can find a better gym with a better corporate culture.

Only at santa monica location is there almost never any resistance bands EVER. Poor resistance band management. They couldn’t find a black band any where or blue band. Keep band behind the desk have people sigh their name. Most won’t take if it’s always available. After a lot of emotion, frustration & anger. They were able to locate a privately owned band from a trainer. Still I missed over half of my favorite class for the day… Dane’s dance on Sunday. I have zero issue getting bands at any other location. Why is Santa Monica location so different. This isn’t a one off day. This is every Sunday except the last 2-3 visits they had them available for a few weekends. So I came unprepared if they didn’t have band. & again of course none. Zero. The good news is at least Santa Monica staff stayed professional while I was literally having a melt down missing my class. So that’s good. Fix the band issue. Have people leave $5 deposit.

It’s not a bad gym, but it does get very crowded and hot upstairs where the cardio machines are, and walking up and down so many flights of stairs is not ideal. Culver City and Century City locations are much better in my opinion

The gym is dirty, crowded, and poorly run. It’s a good thing Amanda the general manager left because she has no competence to manage a gym. The sales advisor Lexi should not bring her cat into the office when members are present. The front desk workers have access to sensitive member information such as billing and ID records and have saved and shared this data. The only people actually doing any work are the maintenance crew. The maintenance crew is forced to re rack all the weights because the trainers refuse to. All of the qualified trainers have left due to the unprofessional environment. I can’t believe there’s only one smith machine

This gym is like my second home. Every person working there is amazing especially Lexi she’s very helpful and kind. Also thank you the best yoga instructor Dylan. I’m new to yoga and he made the experience amazing and encourages me to challenge myself daily. I would love if he could do more classes in Santa Monica every part of the class is unique and the vibe is always positive. He is and always is present. I enjoy yoga so much now, I was always hesitant to start but I love it enough to upgrade my membership to attend all his classes in a different location Equinox.

Despite all the negative reviews I really find this location not too shabby. The only downside is that it’s a bit small, thereby limited equipment, tighter showers, and only free 2h parking. I get treated better at LA fitness than that I did at this equinox. I brought a customer in as a guest and they wouldn’t let me use my guest pass. I'm a member of Equinox Encino and was in the Santa Monica area today. I used my guest pass and was excited to try out this gym.
This equinox is in a great location: free two hours parking, friendly staff, and a large patio. You can take your workout outside, and three rowing machines are on the same deck.
The patio is facing the ocean, and the view is nice.
However, there are some cons.
Too many floors and too many stairs.
The one thing that bothered me was the smell. It smells like sweat in here. Usually, high-end gyms and fitness centers circulate the air so it does not smell like sweat inside. Not in here.
The membership fee at this location is $220 a month (compared to $175 a month in Equinox Encino), so for that price, they need to find a solution for the smell.
In the Encino location, they do a better job circulating the air.

Overall this is a good gym, but you don't get the value for your money. Way too pricey! I'm sure that Santa Monica offers excellent gyms and fitness studios that give you a better deal for your $$$

I’ve experienced many different Equinox locations and the best part of this location is their PR Lab. So fun- actually got me into running - and Rene is the best!😊. The front desk staff is always friendly as is the staff in the shop . The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because the locker room is not well maintained. Often feels dirty - sometimes with showers that have clumps of hair on the walls and/or clogging the drain - or towels strewn about the floors/counters. Amenities are often empty or just missing. And water pressure in showers is horrible and water coming out of the sink faucets smells strange.

CAREFUL!!!! - lots of theft at this location, had my cell phone stolen this morning at 9:15am just as i turned my head to return some weights on the 3ed level. I reached out the management to review cameras, still waiting to hear back

It gets crowded during rush hour (from 4:30 to 7pm) during the weekdays as people tend to go to the gym immediately after work. The place is super clean and the maintenance crew works around the clock to keep it so. The yoga classes are very good and I would recommend it to anyone looking for expanded mobility and flexibility on top of muscle toning. The patrons leans towards a younger crowd if that is your thing.

Don’t get all the negative reviews, I have all access & I’ve used this gym mostly since moving from New York where my Home gym was Gramercy on 24th/Park, also small: I guess I’m used to small gyms. I like how you can get in & out fast, get a parking spot validate. Whole process for cardio plus weights is 60 minutes. I do think that obviously there are other equinox gyms with large steam rooms and less clustered, but they do a good job tending to the locker room per cleanliness. Not the place if you want a huge gym with a pool and that relax vibe but for me it’s on par with my old NYC gym where we get in & get out. No complaints. For LA the front desk staff seem pretty cool and helpful.

The worst Equinox I've ever visited. Impossible layout, overcrowded, antique equipment, and to top it off, cramped, dirty bathrooms. The place is a genuine rabbit warren. This is by far my least favorite Equinox location, it's kind of a dumpster fire of a gym. The equipment isn't very well maintained, the location of equipment, if you can find it makes no sense, and for some reason the front desk keeps acting like I'm trying to sneak in when I go the the Earthbar only to find it closed. There are a lot of good equinox locations in LA, this isn't one of them.

This is my home gym. This is as good as it gets for a public gym in Santa Monica. This EQ is on par with Westwood and Marina Del Rey. Much better than Sports Club IMO. It has everything I need weight-wise, cardio-wise, and there’s spaces outside to workout at too. I almost always hit the steam room after, and then the Kiel’s products in the shower are always welcome. They have towels, blow dryers, lotions, q-tips, etc. No complaints

Overpriced, charged me $400 for Pilates sessions I didn’t use or sign up for; their app is busted all the time; high turnover of staff; discrimination against gym members who are unvaccinated - you’re not allowed to workout now if you don’t prove your vaccination status to them and they don’t allow you to show proof of test as a substitute; already charge $110 a session for Pilates and have the audacity to increase price per session again on top of paying hundreds a month for gym access. Poor business practice all around. Not the luxury gym experience you’d expect for the price you pay.

Came to this gym on a free 2-day trial and was really impressed by the cleanliness and the condition of the equipment. Like, spotless. It was weird but in a good way. The staff was very friendly and they have trainers that just float around on the gym floors to answer questions about equipment/workouts, help with form, etc. Really helpful. Tons of spin, yoga, running and HIIT classes offered everyday if you’re into those.

My only complaint is that the weights and machines are split between two floors. That’d be really helpful if both areas had the same equipment. Instead I found myself repeatedly going up and down the stairs in search of the right equipment. Minor complaint that I’m sure I would work around once I was familiar enough with the layout.

Overall a nice gym with nice equipment and if you have the cash to spend.

I've been a member of Equinox for 2 years, but in the last year I was traveling so much and it made so hard for me to go to the gym. I tried canceling my membership multiple times, but every time I called they said I had to go in person to cancel. With 2 businesses and so much traveling; how am I supposed to do that?

In the second year, I made it to the gym about 4 times and before 9am when there is no one to help you with the cancelation.

I'm finally more relaxed and have a bit more time to take care of my personal things. I came to the gym where I started my membership and Chris, a representative who has no clue whatsoever about customer service and of course, was not able to help me. This is a waste of my time and money.

I joined the Equinox club on Santa Monica Blvd a few week ago and am absolutely blown away by this place! It’s an impeccably clean facility with top notch trainers and every piece of fitness equipment you can imagine. My personal favorite part is the wide variety of great group fitness options which make it a one stop shop for all things fitness: they offer everything from barre/yoga to spin/precision running and a huge variety of strength training as well as myofascial release techniques (think self massage) classes which are great for injury recovery and prevention. The group fitness instructors at equinox are clearly well trained and kept up to date with the latest and greatest fitness trends - rather than focusing on their own workouts during your class they walk around the room offering modifications, progressions and encouragement to ensure that members get the most out of OUR workouts.

I’m a lifelong workout enthusiast who loves all things fitness and have been to countless health clubs throughout the country - Equinox is truly in a league of its own 💪🏻🙌🏻

The gym is ass. The girl with red hair who works at the protein shop kept laughing every time I asked a question and I was given a disgusting look by her. The Mexican women who gave me a tour told me this gym is white power. What does that even mean, I'm white.

If money isn’t an issue & you are looking for some visual motivations around when you workout, this place is for you.

Had a horrifying experience. We visited the location on 201 Santa Monica Blvd to have a quick tour to see the amenities.
The guy at the reception was very hospitable. He introduced us to a staff member (her name was Vivian if we heard correctly). Instead of giving us a tour she started asking us plenty of personal questions like where we live, where we used to live, why we moved, where we work, do we live together or not and much more. We explicitly told that we are not confortable with such personal questions, but our voice was ignored.
Then she was kind of pushing us to sign us for membership without showing us the gym, we insisted to see it and she pushed us to leave our contact details - we also don't understand what's this for.

Finally instead of having a 10 min tour as we wanted, we spent more than half-hour answering very personal questions (for example I'd like to understand how the above mentioned questions are connected to gym membership) and only 5 mins observing the gym. And obviously we decided not to go for membership.

Time-wasting. Frustrating. Offensive.

Really nice gym in a good location. Split up a little in layout but they did the best they could with the space they had.

You can get validated parking. Great place to work out and it is nearby to so many places in Santa Monica.

This is my gym. I also go to other Equinox locations, depending on the day. High-end equipment, friendly staff, and a VIP feel. The teachers are fitness innovators. Worth the money.

Been an Equinox member for 10+ years and not quitting anytime soon. The SM location is as nice as the others with an ocean view exercise patio too. Probably why this is one of their most crowded locations. I'm a morning person so it's pretty manageable earlier than after work. All the instructors are awesome and will get you through the tough classes with a smile on your face.

I joined in November 2012 and I'm really happy with the gym. The towels, facilities... and all the stuff you read in other reviews.

I would have just a couple suggestions. As an avid cyclist I'd like to see more cycle classes on the schedule. My other wish is that the cycle instructors would lay out what the class will be like. Is it a climbing ride, sprints, race day, combination of all? And when are recoveries? For people training for something, this would help with regard to pacing. Not a big deal but would be nice to know the plan.

The staff is all nice and accommodating. Also I am very disappointed that there is no pool ;)

I used to visit the Equinox in WeHo & switched to the one in Santa Monica. Nice & day difference. The Santa Monica is still nice, but a bit disappointing & not as upscale as what I've seen in other locations.
